Is it possible to have an app to turn your phone in to a wifi web cam?
This would be the ultimate spy tool for babysitters, cheating spouses... you name it.
I would think it would need to be plugged in or it would drain the battery fast.
This is not for viewing existing web cams, there are already apps out there that do that.
I want an app to turn your phone in to a web cam.

Symbian has it.
N97 is looking better and better.
qik is now on the market.

I've been using it for a few minutes now, it works very well over wifi. Slow over 3g and edge. =]
Kind of a waste of a $400 phone to use as a stupid camera.... why not just pick up a cheap camera?

Question: This works on the G1/Dream?
If so: What did you select/how did you download it?
Because, I didn't see HTC Dream/G1/Android, etc... in their list under HTC.
Any help?

Why doesn't Google implement video chat into Gtalk or Google voice? I think that would be the next logical step in the evolution of those two apps what do you guys here think?
Skpe is good but I don't use it and I would rather use a app that I already use on my desktop that I am familiar with that I can use on my mobile device.
(Nexus One) plus it would give me a choice.
I know that the Nexus One does not have a front facing camera, but a native video chat app for the android os would be best. plus it simple to make a mirror for the camera so that it can be use for video chat.
What makes you think they're not working on it for Android already?
http://www.google.com/chat/video
I know that they have the plug in for the desktop which i use, i do hope that it will be implemented ,maybe the next update (gingerbread).
Won't do us much good without a front facing camera. Maybe once the hardware becomes more common they will add it.
I remember when video phones were all the rage many years back. The plans were ridiculous, the quality was piss poor, and no one used it. Now that mobile networks are getting faster it might start to make sense finally.
well once a long time ago i had a iphone (god forgive for i have sin) and some guy had written a video chat program for it which never was release but i copy the mirror setup to use the camera on the iphone which did not have a front facing camera. so nexus one could use it .
You don't have to have a front facing camera for video chat.
Imagine you're talking to someone and see something cool. "Hey, check this out" / turn on video chat for a few seconds and point at whatever / turn video chat off.
As video chat becomes more and more popular, I bet that's what it'll be used for rather than looking at someone's face for 30 minutes.

I certainly hope they do but I don't think they're in much of a hurry because alternative services like Fring and Skype already have it covered.
However [and this may be a little off the rails] I hope that MMS is high on their Google Voice priority list because people send me pictures and not only can I not see them, it doesn't even tell me that I got it. Very annoying.
Whats the point to use video chat to show someone something, just record a video and mms it. I don't think video chat will catch on anyways, its been tried before with landlines. People just don't like to be seen when talking on the phone. They wouldn't mind seeing you but they don't want to be seen. Plus I see schools getting pissy about new types of "sexting."

for one its real time ,i won't have to open another app to send a mms, i can just point and show and im done.
I guess it's a question of time that Google will bless us with a full blown video app (mobile or not). The recent acquisition of Gips gives us a hint.
As voice and video is however only marginally close to Google's mission (and possibly, core competence) of making the world's information universally accessible, they are dragging their feet. And, they make internet-enabling all sorts of devices a priority.
But I can't wait for an integration of Google voice with gizmo5, which would make the talk/chat client more Skype-like.

Doesn't that only activate if she opens the Maps app?
Video chat should be made standard into android and smartphones in general. Its of great use for people that communicate thru sign language. I know it would help friends of mine and their families.

Hi,
i played this weekend with a couple android devices and i liked the contact app on the samsung galaxy tab. is it possilbe to get it on the desire, or is it special made from/for samsung?
cant find it in the market...
What's so special about it?I've never seen it

i think it's the same as in the SGS...the contact application is very nice..it allows you to swipe right or left in order to make a call or send a sms.. i think if there is a way to import this in to DHD it would be very nice
and i also like the style and layout, but will probably look very tiny on the small display of the dhd.
but i like it. better than the htc one....
Its basically like the iPad's contact app, in landscape mode it shows the contact list down the left side and when a contact is selected it fills the right hand side of the screen with the contacts details. Is that what your after?
yep,
i also like contapps, like the portrait view with the name under it, but unforunately it sorts the contacts only by first name and i would like to have it with last name...
Im not a massive fan of contapps, however i can see the appeal. i would definatly like the Tab's contact app though, and i think with the DHD's 4.3 inch screen, it would work pretty well.
right now contapps is buggy, but i like the idea, the design is a diffrent story, but maybe they enable themes...i like the facebook integration in cotapps more than with the standard dhd people app and facebook for thc sense, because, this f**** always messes up my contact pictures...
i just would like to have the "updates" from facebook not the pictures and anything...
but i think the conact app from the galaxy tab is only for samsung...its not a open app for everybody....
Off, u can always override pic of contacts in edit mode, htc sense.
-- sent from htc z using xda app
yes i can overide it until the next sync, than i have all this nice facebook pictures back from facebook for htc sense or twitter for htc sense...*bullsh..*
i am looking for a goot contacts app who still does integrate stuff like facebook and twitter but let me choose what to do. like in contapps, i can choose which picture gets overwritten by the facebook one...twitter is not yet integrated, but i like the foursquare integration too...
i even looked at sony eriscson xperia 10 today, the integration of the networks look better there, but i could test if it does the same overwritting like htc facebook.
Had a unpacked (preproduction) Galaxy Tab rom laying around from my Galaxy S days (Way.. back) Here's the contact app from it, I assume it doesn't run on the DHD, but who knows, maybe someone can make it work
I don't know how to get it running on the DHD. If you have questions, please contact the Samsung or HTC Helpdesk

Hi team,
Nice app you have there. I like the way you advertise it on your website.
"Dude, I’m so
bored with my mobile
contacts…"
"Try contapps,
it’s free!"
Lol... keep up the great work.
EDIT: in dutch your app and company name sounds a bit funny. In dutch "kont" means "ass" .The pronunciation of "cont" is the same as "kont" in dutch, so in Dutch it sounds like ass apps
I suggest a fusion with a company named "kick" for the dutch app market

You're right. I was a bit to quick. Probably because I assumed beforehand that it cannot be installed.
anyone tried to push it via adb? might try it when i get home
any1 had any luck?
Just trying contapps, very nice i have a few suggestions which i think would work nicely
Using contapps too, but I don't like that I cant sort the contacts by last name and it shows me a lot of the items twice, like home and work address, birthday and so on, I think it's because, I have all my contacts in phone and synced with google too. also would like to link the contacts with other social sites and an overview of it in the info section

New realtime web tracking system, runs on any phone 2.1+
You can send links to people you want to share your position with. Has configurable "update" times and shows last update/update interval/battery status on the web tracking page (useful for example when you are outside, roaming wilderness for many hours and need to save those last 10% of battery by turn long update interval - people watching you do not freak out, why didn't you move for a long time).
Current status: works, I am optimizing the GPS usage for battery savings.

It does, over Wifi.
I am the author of this app and have one question - did you ever clicked on ads in this app? I am just trying to make a kind of "Survey" between users to know, which way to go. I have the paid version, but it doesn't sell well, so I made the Ad-supported version, listed in Google Play for free, but not many people click the ads.
What do you think? Do you think, that having the app free, supported with ads is viable option for me?
Does this application allows recording and upload tracks?
I`m looking for app like old GPSed for iOS and Blackberry.

For the most part if I use and like an app, I will get the paid version. Outside of that, I don't see the ads, and I would not click on them if I did.

It is strange. They have stopped showing for some reason, I have experienced it on my devices several times. I'll look into that
hmmm. great app, starting to download now. thanks
Not sure about this time tracking application. We had been using Replicon's time tracking product suite which is an easy to use cloud based solution. It has a simple to use calendar view interface, great features for usability and unparalleled back up support too. NO issues till date, had been quite efficient and productive tool.

nice application, ang i want to tray this. thanks
Nice app... but
I just downloaded your free version to see how it worked before purchasing and have a question.
In your description it says you can send links by email but there is no option through the phone app to send links at all. The only place I seen that offers any type of links to send is on the website. I think this option should be offered through the phone app.
Is this something you plan on adding?

Just google it and you'll find the answer
It seems Microsoft has told Whatsapp to disable the app from running all the time. The app uses too much energy which drains all the battery. So Whatsapp announced they will make a new version of the app available within 3 weeks. The bad thing though, there's a big chance whatsapp won't give real time push notification's after this update but will be refreshed on time bases. Which could mean you'll get messages 5 minutes late or anything like that. I'm not sure how the iOS version of whatsapp works? Does that one run all the time ass well, for push notifications I mean?
Let's just hope Real Time Push Notification's won't go away, because it would be a terrible cost. I'm glad Whatsapp improved speed on WP7 though. Whatsapp on my Lumia 920 works incredibly fast compared with the old version of whatsapp on 7.5. And this means it will go faster when the update is available.

just got answer from WhatsApp Support saying that it does not work well in WP8 and they do not know if and when it would return to the market. it seems this app is doomed for now. will have to find alternate app or move to IOS or Android
Hey Guys I've got this as an answer when I tried to ask them what was going on:
Hi,
Thanks for your message. Sorry, WhatsApp is not fully supported on Windows Phone 8 and we cannot comment on future timelines.
If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us. We would be happy to help!
I'm not quite familiar with the exact figure's of how much use is made of whatsapp amongst the competition (Android and IOS) But I think you could reason not having a decent operating Whatsapp would damage WP's position on the market seriously. Whatsapp is immensely popular in the region I live in. So why would Microsoft try to limit or block such a program?
Anyhow I got my Android 4.1 update on my htc one X on December 5th, which is a holiday over here in the Netherlands would be a good thing to have Whatsapp on WP8 before Christmas Eve. My Htc X8 is currently not more than just a palmtop which I can use as a phone...
Cheers Buck
