Android running on TP2 ?? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile ROM Development

Could this be possible?

Of course it's possible: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=521657
If you're asking if those pictures are of Android running on the TP2, I'm going to say "No". At least until there's a picture of the WHOLE device

I believe those are photos of android 0.8 running on a Blackstone/HD. It is a RREALLY old version of android.

New Sense UI on HTC hero?

anyone seen this yet?
i have and it looks tasty
if u havent check it out here
http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/24/htc-hero-details-begin-leaking-from-htcs-own-website/
any thoughts on this being ported to a winmo HD?
because it looks so much nicer than touch flo?
post your thoughts people.
My thought is that it will not be ported. It's running on android, and uses android interfaces to communicate with the device.
We could only dream that at some point our blackstones will be able to run android.. These new android phones are starting to make me regret ever getting the HD

According to the HTC press release, HTC Sense will appear on ALL future HTC phones. This should mean that we will see it on Windows Mobile phones soon. Maybe then we will see it ported to the Blackstone.
regret getting a blackstone! take a look at what u just said and re think it! lol
Yeah, I'm a sinner, sorry
bad bad bad abats!
/enjoys blackstone again
Microsoft is so slow on moving with things
Android really looks like taking off. the only thing that prevented me from going android is that it seemed very bandwidth heavy. now seeing hero and android apps ahhh.. what are they doing at microsoft!! come on guys make it easy for me to develop apps!!! get your marketplace going !! come one balmer get onto a stage and do a crazy and get us excited about windows mobile again. wm6.5 is such a cop out.
but why do all android phones have a huge chin! thats another thing letting them down in my opinion, that and that so far they are only on t mobile and voda in the uk......No thanks!

yepp....windows mobile is dying slowly That why my Blackstone is my last WiMo device...iPhone and Android have a bright future...WiMo doesn't.
after more looking this new UI is so nice, widgets and everything, better contacts management and stuff. i want i want i want! please be on a winmo device so it can be ported
android porting to HD is being worked on.. lets keep our fingers crossed
HTC SENSE, looks interesting Let's wait for new cooked rom
lol, maybe chefs here can cook up something =)
Now THAT'S some serious ui!!
Can't wait till some xda-blackstone-chef gets his hands on this one...
it is coming to Windows Mobile accoring to this...http://wmpoweruser.com/?p=5239
crosses fingers for an HD port!
I have to say that this HTC Sense UI looks great and seems to be very user friendly. I believe that sooner or later we will have "Sense" on ours Blackstones Patience...
the htc hero version can't be portet...even if android is running on the blackstone....there's a resolution problem...cause specs are as follows:
Inside you'll find Qualcomm's MSM7200A proc running Android at 528MHz, 512MB/288MB ROM/RAM, 3.2-inch TFT-LCD with 320 x 480 pixel rez, 900/2100MHz HSPA and Quad-band GSM, trackball, GPS, 802.11b/g WiFi, 3.5mm audio jack, G-sensor, compass, and 5 megapixel auto-focus cam with microSD expansion. It's all there baby.
But this ui will be available for windows mobile too...so I guess we will get a working version by the end of this years (at latest!!!).
HTC First Look Video of whats to come.....
Full promotional video from HTC can be downloaded HERE
VERY Impressive!!!!!
Expected UK Release Date 3rd July
I think this will be my next "adventure" - the main constraint for me will be Blackberry support though.....
.
Looks like Point UI.
But it is smoothhhhhhhhh! Please port ass soon ass possible!!
the new ui is based on manila, the only difference is layout.
you have to think, the original android UI is used on all previous android devices.
this is the first UI built by HTC for the android OS.
so can be easily built for WM by HTC.
so glad i spotted this and posted it before everyone else did lol

dont quite understand.

I am a semi noob at this. I have been following and flashing since the g1 came out, but there are a few things I never quite understood.
First. When going from 1.5 to 1.6 or to 2.0 what is it that I'm updating exactually? Is it just another rom or is ther more to it?
Second, what makes roms "slow"? I know most of the hardware is the same from one phone to another, or at least in terms of speed. But even the fastist hero rom is still slugish compaired to roms like xRom. So far the new 1.6 rom is the fastist my phone has been since root.
I'm not trying to discredit the devs, cuz I love what they are doing for android. I just want to be able to better understand the why,. Thank you
Please no flaming, simple answers (cuz its made for a diffrent phone), and last please break it down barney style.

Well you hit the nail on the head talking about the UI being made for a different device. Sense UI is not designed for the dream, therefore you are running a "ported" version of the UI. This will of course make things slower than if it was running on the intended device.
As far as hardware goes, the hardware is extremely different in many phones that are out. That will cause the phone to operate differently and reaction times will be based on the RAM and available internal memory, as well as the processor (the same way it would be in a computer).
As far as the different versions of android. It's just like going from windows xp to vista to windows 7, or from Mac OSX to snow leaopard. It's the same principal. The OS has received updates to make it more functional.
Hope this has helped.

Numbers 1.5 to 1.6 to 2.0 refers to the version of android. its similar to xp vs. vista vs. win7
Latest is 2.0 but its not fully ported for dream due to missing drivers.
theres no single factor that makes it slow. the hardware that hero roms run on have 96mb more ram than what the g1 has (its a different phone)
edit: rp beat me to it lol

Contemplating switch to Android

I've recently purchased an HTC Vogue (Bell) and wasn't recommended to stray to Android ROMs as this is really my first time around, however, I was really impressed by the themes and how clean the interface looked.
I am currently on WM 6.1 and contemplating updating to 6.5+ or to Android. Some problems about 6.1 that I really didn't like were: the SMALL keyboard, bland looking threaded txt msgs, inability to play youtube (among other video/audio files) out the box.
I'd love to give Android a go, but wouldn't know where to start (must have apps/games, familiarity with OS, etc).
Any suggestions and help would be awesome.
Thanks!

Go with an SD card build mate, you can test android out while leaving windows mobile untouched!, plenty of FAQ's and stuff on this forum to sort you out
Just install Android on Nand. It takes 10 minutes to flash back to winmo if you don't like it.

Run haret off the SD card first, all it takes to go back to winmo is a simple reboot

Who recommended you not "stray" to android roms? They must be crazy..... Honestly, from your dislikes of winmo, you will LOVE android, trust me. It has gotten to the point where it seems almost native to the device. I would look up tatnai's FAQ and try the sdcard/haret method just to get a good feel so you're not committed to a full flash. But I guarantee you'll be wanting to go to a full flash within no time.
See this thread for instructions, etc.: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=628353
If you just want to try Android out, run it off of your SD card. Once you're ready to permanently move to Android, then you can install it to NAND. Keep in mind it's a bit laggier off of the SD card and the battery performance is worse.
Does Android support Divx, Xvid, quicktime, AVIs, and various other types of video/audio?
Well, it can play youtube videos. Divx and avi (not too sure about).
Personally, this is why i switched to android:
Apps! Apps! Apps!
Widgets and icons
Fast and fluid interface
Its modern and up to date
Vogue Community seems to be shifting android (personal gut feeling)
Not having to worry about customizing my phone as much as i did with windows mobile.
Subtle android features that windows mobile on vogue doesnt have (i.e. animation when you open and close apps, slide down notification curton, web based apps )
Android is Perfect for My everyday use
What i miss from Windows Mobile:
My Garmin GPS
Taking Higher resolution/ better quality pictures.
I may be missing things... someone who is android biased help me out!
One more reason to love android "Sense UI"

gps works great on android, it actually gets a better fix on android then on winmo
I recently switched to Android on my vogue and love it! Sd card install just to make sure you like it, then nand.
i have been experimenting with droid since i got my Vogue a year ago with haret. the beauty of droid is its smooth and clean, and its not M$. there are pros and cons to both... first ill suggest get off 6.1- there is no hope for that build. there are plenty of builds either here or on ppcgeeks.com you can pick and choose what you want to or not to have. now you can also flash android NAND here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=636024
i prefer android hero builds as i feel they are just 'cooler' but i ran into an issue with the last build i used and have been experimenting with some of the other builds out there. currently using MYN's warm donut located
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=619980
there are some pretty cool themes there as well.
from the skeptics and paranoid perspective, i read and read for months until i flashed my first rom. dont do anything til you are ready. there are plenty of smart folks here to help you.
read read read, subscribe, and ask questions when you need to.
also remember, the search tab is your friend, i can almost guarantee, if you have a problem (android or otherwise) someone has morethan likely had it. there are a couple where there are new threads needed.
i cant express enough, there are alot of good folks here to help if you need it. they made a believer out of me!!
do your research, and move at your own comfort level.
best of luck
YEahh.. i'm in the same boat as you.. like i love android, and all my friends have it on there droid eris.. but i'm affraid to flash, and not be able to go back (if needed). Like can i go back? and is everything working on 1.6 android build?? (like texts, calls, and camera?) i'm reading, but some of this stuff is just SO confusing..

i thought everything was pretty confusing at first too. its actually all pretty simple. everything works on 1.6 except camcorder/mms(sending works on verizon and receiving works on sprint)/wifi. i was scared to death when i flashed android to my phone but its as easy as 123. just try android from your sdcard first and if you like it(which you will) then you can do some research on how to flash it.
Can I use a 4GB card to try Android from SD on a Bell Vogue (XV6900?) or do I require a 2GB micro sd card?
Also, if I decide to actually flash the phone, do I need to unlock it first, then install Android to NAND?
I have been doing so much reading, I am getting confused...easy to confuse an old guy!

you can install android with any sd card, but you can only flash a rom from sd card with a 2gb size and lower.
if you do just a haret run then you don't need to unlock, however when you install to NAND you do have to unlock it inorder to flash a rom
Made the jump from SD to NAND today and have to say its running faster and better than ever. Its worth the jump.

[Q] Dual boot?

I was wondering if dual booting would be possible on our phone? I've seen that the HD2 got winmo + android boot... But having some kind of Stable partition and a second "dev" one would be quite amazing...
Thanks!
I asked the same question, and my post was moved to Q and A. Most responses were that WinMo is not worthy of the hardware. WP7 didn't attract quite the same disdain.
I would really love to run WP7 on the captivate, and I think eventually someone will make it happen. I think WinMo would run amazingly smooth, but I doubt we'll ever find out.
The HD2 won't quite run android ROMs, you have to boot into WinMo, then restart in Android, but it is really easy to swap what "ROM" you are using. If the HD2 was capable of AT&T 3G, I would have one by now.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Yes please to WP7 on Captivate. If nothing else i want to be able to run it for a few days to see how I like that new software. And check out the Xbox Live integration
yes, i only have one phone but would like to learn to do some basic development and it would be nice to have a stable rom to switch back to on the fly. i've had problems using nandroid and titanium backup. if anyone knows of a way to change to or add a secondary boot loader so multiple os's can be launched that would be awesome.
minmo might be a bit impractical but multiple android installations would be cool sweet.
Ok.. well get a checklist started on what you would need:
A custom bootloader that would work with the Captivate.. And I'm sure people would want the choice to pick the OS upon bootup instead of having to go into the recovery screen and booting up from there.
It would also have to be compatible with working Android and Win7
Someone would then have to find the source code to Win7 - or at least the SDK for it and develop in whatever language its written in.
Then someone would have to code the drivers for the Captivate and Win7 mobile.
Pretty much.. it wouldn't be any type of "take n' bake" task and would be quite the project involving a ton of work.
I'm sure someone out there in the world will come up with it.. I mean someone took the time to port Android to the iPhone - so it "could" happen.. but most likely won't due to the huge amount of work it will take.

At least there's a Samsung Omnia 7. It has a 4" SAMOLED like ours. I hope it has more in common with us as well so it would make the process easier.

if winmo gets ported great, if not oh well, if you read the op it was not to get winmo but just used the hd2 as an example of dual boot on a phone. a boot loader is a starting point so can the topic go in that direction? i just dont want naysayers to get confused and tell us every reason we wont get or dont want winmo.
You cannot just take the source code for WP7. It is not open source. You can port android to things, but not the other way around.

As Dani897 said, the thread is not about porting WP7 to our phone, but just having dual boot to be able to have (lets say) one stable rom and one dev rom on the same phone...
seriously want this to happen figure it out

which Android version????

Ok folks,
As I still use my Kaiser as my daily work phone I have decided to flash Android on to it instead of messy around on it as a haret/sd installation(been awhile since I did though)... Didn't really want to flash it but as wm6.5 and alot of apps are nolonger being updated or don't work I have little choice any longer.... So my question is this...Which Android version ported to Kaiser has all hardware working and is stable to use? which one has ext2 working(sd partition) and even app2sd in other words which one is as near as damn it like having a true android phone???
regards
lohtse
come on folks.... offer a little advise!!!!
why not just get an android device? even if you buy an used one on craigslist i bet you'll be alot happier then this
Yep already have android phone(look at sig) but work phone is a kaiser and is perfectly servicable.Even have 5 batteries for when am away etc... just getting tired of apps failing on wm6.5 and as only reason not flashed android was there was no memory map mapping app but now there is... just need a rom that has all hardwear working..and would be happy...
I haven't had this phone in so long. I'm surprised android is portable to it
