App To Monitor Data Usage Of Individual Apps? - G1 Apps and Games

Hi all,
I know 3G Watchdog and NetCounter both do a great job of monitoring data usage, but is there an app that is able to report specifically which app has been using how much data?
I'm asking because my data usage went up by 30MB last night while I was asleep, and I've no idea what caused it. Logcat isn't too helpful either .
Thank you.

i wish such an app can be developed.

I've been searching for similar apps as well (light weight)
Found another option...
https://market.android.com/details?id=net.ir.apptrafficfree
Seems to use built in data monitored by the os, for ver 2.2 onwards only though.

I beg to differ. Whilst it's feature rich and a very intuitive application which does an extremely good job at monitoring your GPRS/3G usage, it's a CPU/battery sucking WHORE and slows down your device, especially when streaming data.
I've had to (regrettably) uninstall it, as I just can't justify running an app that, when doing nothing, CONSTANTLY uses 1-2% of the CPU, and just turning on the tray icon increased that constant cpu usage to 3-4%. It NEVER drops down even when your data connection is completely idle. And if you're running it when watching any kind of streaming media, well, just forget about it. I've tried several versions and they all do the same things. I hope one day they can fix that... If you do a bit of searching you will also find many other people experiencing the same problem. With the limited battery life of the diamond, you will be shaving HOURS off your mean time b/w charges.
It's a real shame. And unfortunately I don't have any other alternative apps - I'm still looking for one myself.
So which versions of the Touch Diamond had SPB GPRS Monitor free on the CD? Mine did and mine's the UK edition.

Data usage apps

For people that like to keep track of data usage, which one do ya'll use?
I use to use one for XP when I first started tething. I found NetTraffic and it seemed buggy and then I found NetCounter which seemed to not keeping track of my usage correctly.
Now NetTraffic has another app out due to complications in Market... whatever, but I wanna know what other people use or if they dont care.
NetCounter is good but the UI is a bit corky. Roiding is good, but the on/off popup seems genuinely random, and the UI is confused.
Leaning towards NetCounter. Still have run a test to compare the usage to my actual billed usage though...
i would like someone to release an app that does what SPB wireless manager does for WM. It tells you how much data you have used and also tells you how much data each app used so you can see which are the data hogs etc....

[Q] My Data Manager vs DroidStats

Cheers,
Im using these 2 apps to monitor my Data usage since im on a 1000MB data
limit. My Data Manager is nice and gives me also my wifi Data Activity and also
breaks down the usage to which apps uses the bandwidth. Droidstat on the other
hand not only monitors my Data Usage but also my Free Calls and Texts, which I
find important as well since im on a 500minutes/500texts plan.
My question tho is that how come these 2 apps gives me different figures for my
data usage? I mean for My Data Manager it says that I have already consumed
542MB with 11days left, while DroidStats says 745MB Data Remaining with 11days
remaining on Billing Month any idea as to which one is more accurate? or maybe im
missing something? I didnt notice this during my first billing period, as of the moment
im erring on the side of caution and just assuming that My Data Manager is the
correct one as I dont want to go overboard my limits.
Thanks.
I have never used those 2 apps.. but just a suggestion, use 3G Watchdog (Pro if u want to buy) best app.. 100% accurate 3G+Wi-Fi usage and very cool design

How you use ur data connectivity?

How you guys usually spend a day out of home with ur phone? Do you keep your data connectivity on to fast access foursquare or instagram or facebook, or u just turn it on/off when you need it/don't need it?
Can i have some opinions/commentaries?
Thanks!
Off when wifi available, on otherwise.
Turning on/off constantly usually results in faster battery drain than keeping it on. This because switching on consumes a lot of battery, while it is on it only consumes battery when data is transfered.

Yeap, but keeping it always on will cause my data plan to end I only got 150mb/month... That damn "OS Services" or whatever uses internet..
I use JuiceDefender ultimate, so it's all automatic.

Root and install droidwall, got my daily leaked consumption down to 1mb from 5-10 mb that all those data hogging apps would use. Some apps just have no businesses connecting to the internet, droidwall lets you take care of them.

The problem is that Droidwall doesnt finds the "OS Services" thing that is wasting the data I emailed to My Data Manager devs to check what is OS Services but still no reply :X
Not sure about this, but OS services seems to include many google services (drm media, download manager and linux kernel)
Blocking linux kernel doesn't give any errors, but drm manager and downloads manager if blocked don't allow to download stuff from the web...

Note 9 on Android 9 connecting to mobile data ene whne they are switched off

Hello everybody,
I am using Note 9 for few months (was forced to upgrade from Note 4 what suddenly died ) and I have noticed very irritating thing.
My phone is connecting on mobile data even they are turned off 2 - 3 times per month.
First few months I thought that I somehow turned them on, but my phone is always fingerprint locked so that is not possible. Last time it happened when I was walking in the forest and once while I was sleeping in the bus... So it really is NOT some kind of accidental user mistake.
Problem is that I dont need mobile data all the time so I have them switched off almost always and use them only when required for email and etc just few times. I have offline GPS navigation and everything I need for work always works offline. Data plan was never economical for me.
Anybody noticed this?
I am trying to diagnose this issue and turn that off because I am paying on connection basis.
It is really irritating that phone is doing something on its own and doesnt care what user set up... I really think that user app cannot enable mobile data on its own, so I suspect OS itself...
This suggestion isn't exactly what you're looking for, but, one I find helps somewhat.
Go to SETTINGS > APPS & on each app, go to MOBILE DATA & turn off background data.
Not only does it curb unwanted data usage, but, may also offer a marginal improvement in battery life.
As for the issue you're experiencing, I haven't had that issue.
The only thing that I can imagine is possibly you have an app that has the ability/permission to turn on data, even if you have data turned off in the phones settings.
I've never heard of it being triggered by external means either, definitely an unusual issue.

Thank you for inspiration . This may be good starting point.
I have checked mobile data usage statistics. Sad that you can see only one month statistics and not like last week or last 24 hours. This week I had 2 unwanted connections again (today again happened during trip when phone wasnt even in my hands).
In last month there are few apps that are system installed, I have disabled mobile data on background on each of them:
- Samsung Experience Service
- Samsung Push Service
- Media
I will see if it will make any changes and report here in another days.
I will check maybe on stackexchange if its even possible for user application to enable mobile data withouth users approval. Is far as I know, even system administrator apps like Cerbersu cant do that...

Please keep us posted on your progress.
I'm not rooted, so, any system apps that I know that I won't use, I disable them, either via ADB commands, or, using the app Package Disabler Pro.
If you are rooted, I strongly recommend using SD Maid Pro. It's good not only for disabling apps, but, you can stop individual processes from starting up on boot on a per-app basis. (Among other several uses).
If you're interested & need links to either/all, let me know......

I wonder if data is turned on either by samsung to maybe location service or remote lock service?
Im not sure but does Note 9 has "aGPS"? Doesn't it connect to cell towers for faster position lock?
Do you have any anti theft software installed what pinging server once a while?

I have installed Cerberus as anti theft service. I doubt thats culprit of this because I had it installed previously on Note 2 and Note 4 fo about 6 years in total and never had this issue before. Maybe this is something different in new app version, but I am very suspicious about Samsung preinstalled stuff.
AGPS is of course present, like on any phone since around 2012. But you really dont need internet connection for using that. It should use coordinates from BTS mobile stations and those data should be obtained without internet. As far as I know...
Now its 2 days without data enabled issue. Few more days and we will know if disabling background data for those 3 services helped.
