GPS Waiting for signal... stuck forever.. whats wrong? - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I installed iGO8 and now all my GPS, Garmin, Google maps dont work..
It just gets stuck at waiting for GPS signal...
What's wrong? It was a clear blue sky out door when I checked this too..

Mmm sounds familiar. I upgraded my X1 firmware to the stock R3A rom (last weekend) and had this trouble with iGO8.3 (or TechrificWay which is the local Australian version) after re-installing all my apps. Had the same problems with Google Maps. Thought the GPS was crook. I was just about to do a hard reset and re-install but decided to try my old Copilot Live 7 software and everything worked fine. So un-installed iGO8.3 and re-installed and everything worked fine. If I think about it I might have un-installed iGO8 before I installed CPL7, not sure. Anyway everything has worked fine since.
Perhaps worth a try?

Same problem here on my fuze.
I had to wait many mins nearly 30mins to get the signal and if lil miss, again 30mins.
I'm using garmin and not sure about others. I tried many radio versions but still same.
BTW; sorry for posting in wrong device section but I found a nice thread here which could help.
Best Regards

I actually have 2 GPS on my sd card atm, could this be the problem?

I don't think so, unless both aren't running in background.
Checkout in FdcSoft Taskmgr if there are.....
Best Regards

Im gonna try uninstall everything, delete darmin off of sd card, and renstall igo. will post back

ok, so i uninstalled everything and was only left with google maps. no igo or garmin. so i tried too use google maps with gps, and even google maps coudnt even work. it said it cant find the gps receiver.. how can i turn it back on? could it be my reg setting, i make gprs disconnect after 2 mins?

Ive tried using manual com using baud rate 4800 and all kinds of combinations.
It would say "intializing GPS..." then it would come up with no GPS receiver found.. whats wrong??

I had a problem a few weeks ago when I couldn't get GPS to work (in Google Maps and CoPilot Live 8).
It turns out that my QuickGPS data has expired (somehow it got set to manual download). Updating the data and setting QuickGPS to update automatically made everything work normally.
In Advanced Config Tool, there is an option to turn on aGPS. I have mine set to "ON" even though I don't know if this has any effect on the X1.

Yep, Ive already turned on everything A-GPS, GPRS all settings on, tried google maps, everything again.. Nothing seems to work and it keeps coming up with No GPS receiver found although I checked if my GPS builtin is actually defective by running GPSGate2 and testing my builtin GPS. GPS said it reads ok.. so what is the problem.. its really annoying.. it ruined my anniversary 6month with my gf

^^^ You still didn't mention running QuickGPS...?

Yeah, done that too. Countless times...

GPS Not functioning

I screwed my Kaiser gps by trying to use map4pda which automatically changed the port in settings for gps. What can I do? Gps not working anymore, even after putting back the old settings and doing softresets, even took out the battery for a while
Not a single program can find my inbuilt gps now
I do not want to do a hard reset,I have tooo many progs and no backup
Please help
I am afraid to use any other gps program(even after a hard reset) because this could ruin my gps settings
I read somewhere that gps applet is misconfigured(from factory)..and even a slight modification to it,could lead to my gps not functioning till a hard-reset.
Also it's not normal that a program can modify the gps'settings by itself
I have bad news for you, but at least it confirms that Map4PDA is a bad program. I used to love the program. It worked awesome on my 8525. You can have it use MSN, Yahoo or Google Maps.
I installed it on my Tilt and at first I didn't realize that it was the culprit. Then I hard reset and installed only that program and a few others to test GPS. Once I ran Map4PDA, GPS no workie. Hard reset again.
I have not run it since my last hard reset and my GPS still works perfect....and I have used many, many different GPS programs.
So with all that said, I'm afraid a hard reset is your only option. I am not the only one that got bit by this. I posted in another thread here and a few others had the same results as me.

Thank you for the info..
Are you sure this is the only gps program that messes up the gps?
Did you test Igo,GpsTuner,GpsGate,Pathaway professional,GeoScout??
But Gloposis,BeeLine gps??
Any other incompatibilities?
Thx
I haven't tested all of those. Here's what I have on my phone right now:
FFF (finger friendly friends)
Google Maps
Live Search
GPS test
GPS Utilities
GPS viewer
GPSinfo
Navigator II
TomTom 6
TrackMe
Virtual Earth
VisualGPSce
I think the other ones will be safe. Map4PDA is the only one I've heard of that kills the Kaiser GPS.
A hard reset is your only option and shouldnt be a nightmare.
Work out what apps you want, check you have the cabs etc, sync your device with your pc and away you go.
I keep all my favourite apps cabs on my storage card so that I could hard reset even if away from my laptop (but I do have an exchange server so setting up sync remotely is also easy).
Reinstalling 60 applications IS very time-consuming,let alone the time to configure them and the OS just the way I like them.
But giving that I do not have any other chance,I'll do it
My only concern is that I'll install other application which will kill again my gps and I have to take all from the beggining. I come from an Eten X500 and this was never happened to me.There , NO application could change some system settings..

I too noticed that using different GPS software tends to screw up something on my Tilt. I've used Google Maps and MS Live Search and these tend to screw things up to the point that the GPS is useless. I also have Copilot Live 7 installed and this program has the ability to reset the GPS on my device.
For those not familiar with Copilot, when you go to the Settings panel in Copilot and choose Reset GPS, it asks you to enter a city within 100 miles of your current location in order to reset your GPS properly. If someone could develop an app to replicate this... This would be a great standalone app for all Tilt & variant owners.
But if the gps is already dead, how will Copilot know which city is in 100 miles radius ??it cannot tell the current location, beacuse it cannot get a fix from sattelites...so one cannot do a reset to the gps..
what about a backup? make a backup before you install an app that you don't know if it works or not, install/run app, if all is good, no worries. if all is bad, restore from backup.
the Tilt ROM comes with sprite backup and htc backup is flating around this forum...

Not sure how this works, but I've been able to get my GPS working again every time with this feature.
If entering a location with Copilot fixes your GPS, then it wasnt broken to begin with. Just because Google Maps cant get a fix, doesnt mean that your GPS isnt working (all it means is that you need to download the new google maps which is a lot better).
One needs to think about such problems logically. When you open a GPS enabled APP and try to get a fix, does the orange GPS light flash on the device. If it does, then your gps is working with your device. If it then fails to get a fix it is because it cannot see the satellites. Make sure you are giving it a clean line of sight to the sky (ideally to the south if you live in UK).
If the orange light doesn't come on then your com port settings are wrong and its hard reset time.
Oh and if your GPS is working but seems to take a long time to get a fix, then use QUICKGPS to give it a prod.
In the external GPS settings programs tab set to 4800, in the hardware tab gps hardware port select none, baud rate should be at 4800. In te access tab tick manage gps automatically.
Load the TomTom app that comes with the Kaiser or download it from here. go to config on the gps settings within TomTom and it will right itself
Make a backup of the registry and put is back in this situations, easy and fast when you try different programs.
Btw Igo works fine also Nusa maps (Indonesia), Map King pro and Papa Go..

That's not true in every circumstance. Like the OP, I installed Map4PDA. When you run the program, it searches for the GPS (you can't specify what COM port to use manually) and in my case, hangs on COM3 for whatever reason. I let it sit for over an hour and ended up doing a soft reset because the program was unresponsive.
After that, my GPS would not work in ANY program that it worked in previously. I checked and double-checked my settings to no avail. I posted here and on MoDaCo and got some good advice but in the end, only a hard reset fixed it. Yes, the GPS light would blink but my Tilt would run very, very slowly and would never get a fix. That QuickGPS program would error out every time I ran it. I don't know what Map4PDA did, but it hosed my GPS and it looks like the OP got bit too.
Since my last hard reset, I have installed tons of GPS enabled programs and they all work just fine. I also have never run QuickGPS and I can get a fix within 10 seconds in any program.
I know it's not logical, but that is what worked for me.
EDIT: I don't advocate the spreading of paid for s/w, but I would be curious to see if your CoPilot program would successfully reset the OP's GPS.
If a gps program asks for manual configuration of hardware gps port and the baudrate, what should I input? Like Igo for ex....or GpsTuner...

COM4, 4800 baud
this com 4 is a program port,it's not the harware gps (native) port..
can we find out which port number is the default(hardware)?
But thnks anyway for the answers
COM4 is what works. Yes, technically, it's a soft port, but it has worked with every GPS enabled program I've tried (except for Map4PDA but that is another story).
The neato thing about that is that it allows more than one program to access the GPS at the same time. If you go directly to the hardware, you lose that functionality.

I use GpsGate anyway,so using multiple gps programs at once isn't a problem for me,BUT because I cannot use hardware port, we are stucked with 4800 baudrate, which is a limitation only with soft multiplexer(built in the OS)

Having Problems with GPS and AT&T Tilt

I purchased a tilt about 2 weeks ago and have been using the gps fine with navadi htc gps tool, ms live search, and google maps. In fact im on a trip in san diego today and i was using the gps earlier today with google maps. I was lost for a while and i couldnt get the gps to work google maps wouldnt lock onto a sattelite, next i went into the windows settings and it wouldnt save anything under the hardware tab. After searching the net and not getting anywhere i decided to run clear storage to reset the tilt. I reset it and now google maps says it cant find a gps device at all. So i installed and ran the htc gps tool. When the device is set to communicate on com 4 htc gps tool says open com port failed. When i change the windows options and htc tool options to communicate on com 3, htc gps tool gives me no errors but also doesnt report any data being recieved. Im really hoping the gps isnt broke i didnt do anything to the phone physically to damage the gps but i have been running the phone at 57600 baud instead of 4800. If anyone has any experince with this gps unit or has had this problem i would appreciate any help. Also if its agreed this is just a phone problem is there usually a warantee or should i use the at and t insurance i bought whats the best rout here im not sure if i saved the phones recipt.
learn to use the enter button on your keyboard...and try turning agps off
i just checked agps it is off
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\SUPL AGPS]
EnableAGPS=0
is there anything else i could try. Like i said i did clear the storage so everything should be back to default settings.

Instead of just saying "problem solved", how about letting the rest of us know what happened....sorry rant over
acually im not quite sure what i did. I just set everything back to defualt in the gps settings com 4 at 4800 baud and the gps tool was able to communicate with the gps again.
Im just not quite sure what i did, i mean orginally it wasnt working with the default settings .
Also ive been having a real hard time getting gps locks lately i find myself having to use gps tool to constantly clear the gps memory, then i have to reopen it and preform a hot start. I never had to do tat befhore this problem. I have regular quick gps updates too. When i open gps tool it just tells me mode 2 fix not available. This happens after using google maps 2 or 3 times.

Have you been playing with the "External GPS" application? That's known to cause serious problems with the GPS, even requiring a hard reset (although I saw work being done to restore some registry settings to default to avoid needing the hard reset)
I dont think so im not even sure what the external gps application is. I use a tilt so i dont have all the cool htc stuff ive downloaded and installed google maps, ms live search, quickgps, and the navadi htc gps tool. I did a hard reset and am still having trouble locking the gps in with out using gps and clearing the gps.
Strange part is i was on a trip and google maps was working fine all day and for weeks before the trip. All the sudden it just stoped getting a lock. Didnt drop the phone change any software settings or anything.
you most likely didnt have to do a hard reset...to get a good gps lock you need to download satelite information through QuickGps every 6 days but i do it everytime i use my gps through live search to get a god satelite fix everytime. and with the externa gps settings i set it to any port usually com 0 and never mess with the software tab , only hardware...the baud rates too you dont need to mess with that, just choose a com, quickgps download and soft reset u should always get a fix...if thir are still problems search for gps tweaks

Problems with Diamond's GPS

Hi guys..
i think i need some help here.. iv had quite a few HTC phones ever since they came out soo know my way around the software somewhat good
but, my new Diamond is the first iv had with buildin GPS .. but it seems like there is a problem with mine.. even thou in tomtom7 it can see the sat's and gives a "connection/detection bar" on the sat overlook page in tomtom they stay grey (not rly connected) (connected sats are blue)
and when im outside it connects now and then but disconnects from the sats more or less same sec :S and after 1-3min it get a connection again and gets cut off again as before, and so on...
iv tryed once - where it seemed to get an connection it could hold. and there it worked great even indoor.. but after shutting tomtom down and letting it rest for a bit i was back to the old problem... which is kinda fustrating..
any bright ideas?
i tryed making a vitual port with GPSGate but thats the same..
cant seem to find anywhere in the settings of WM where i can do anything about the GPS..
PFW//
did you try hardreset ?
if not
backup your files and hardreset!
It seems that this issue comes from the A-GPS setting in Diamond Tweak.
Did you install this software?
Otherwise, try to use QuickGPS and download latest info.
On mine, this resolved the issue.
Nevermind, browser crash and beaten by Phoenix with the answer
well havent tryed hardreset yet - keeping that as last way out.. would suck having to reinstall everything..
as far as i know i havent installed diamond tweak, and iv run quickgps 500 times to try and resolve it.. only thing i can think of it might have been if that i ran quick gps just when i got the handset, but dident notice my date and time was set incorrect.. not sure if that could have done anything.. but thats my best guess..
Right... dont ask why.. but just for the fun of it, even tho iv done it 500 times before i just tryed running quickgps (again again) ... and bob's-ur-uncle it works..
freaky.. wierd handset.. not like its not getting enough attention lol
anyways.. thx for the help !
i blame the fact that its a Microsoft based thing lol..
cheers guys
i have the same problem, i run tt7, gps connection show 4/5 satellites log in, but the tt7 remain grey. This situation is for 3/4 minutes and only after this time the tt7 goes on and color.
Which is the problem?

yea its wierd.. but dont quite know what it was that made mine work again.. i had my wifi turned on and ran the QuickGPS and kept the wifi going while starting and running tt7, and i stept outside, and it got connected like 3 sec after i wentoutside and held the connection which is great
but cant figgur out why it worked this time.. iv updated QuickGPS loads of times to see it that would help.. only thing i (think) i did different that time was the wifi was still on..
tho i have to add, unless your house is made of cardboard its not that great inside.. soo give it a try outside to give it the best chance of finding a connection =)
PS: Still works today.. takes 2 sec to get a connection under open sky
Possible solution
Had the same problem. Just disable A-gps (with Advanced Config from Schap) and everything works fine. It seems that A-gps is not (correctly) supported by all providers.
Good luck.

I just installed the Advanced Config tool and looked through the settings, and somehow my A-GPS has been disabled, and I tryed turning it on, and quite right - i was back to having problems with the gps..
Disabled it again, and the GPS now works perfectly
Soo i am 99,9% certain that this is whats making problems with our GPS (thx Atsee)
Thanks, this tip just saved my day.
cheers
//Jocke
i do a soft reset and now seems to be ok.
thanks.
..but now i have a second problem: i mark POI for show it on map, but they don't appear on map when tt7 is running. How i can see those on map?

GPS not working :/

I tried to use my GPS with three apps: Google Maps, TomTom, and LiveSearch.
The GPS would not work with any of them, the problem is that my phone is not finding any satelites. I have tried this in numerous places in the city, and nothing.
On TomTom, I have it configured to the built in GPS, but I read someplace to also try to set it to COM:4 and 4800, but that didnt help either.
Can anyone help me?
edit: Oh and all 3 programs are installed on my phone, not the memory card. I dont know if that makes a difference but just sayin'.

no i waited a good 5-10 minutes
ok I am running GPSTest but i do not know much about what it is showing.
i am seeing 2-3 green bars, sometimes yellow, and on the bottom there are a bunch of numbers.
the bars are green so im guessing this is a positive thing.
it is still not working with google maps or tomtom, with google maps i waited so long that it showed me an error message saying google maps cant detect my gps, so it cant be that i havent waited long enough.
in GPSTest settings, it says my GPS is on Com:6 and 9600 baud, so in tomtom and google maps i plugged that into the GPS settings values, but still nothing
Try setting it to COM4, and see if that helps.

did u even read my post? i said i did
Hi there.. I read this post and might have an answer... after I did a rom update (to an official rom too non the less) my TomTom software no longer would EVER find a satilite signal.. was depressing.. no matter how long I waited.. I did COm 4.. every bad rate from 2400 to 57600.. nothing worked... Then I decided to try that GPS toggle program (I attached it) and it worked great.. just do a soft reset after installed... Let me knwo if this works for you... It is basically a swtich in your today screen that "turns on" the gps chip.. even will show you how many satilites you are locked onto.. Once it turns "green" after you turn it on, start TomTom set in Com , 4800 and it will work like a champ I hope...

hey its difficult to say whats the problem really. howmuchever i have read about GPS problems (while going thru it myself) i have realized the following
1. its an issue with win 6.1
2. its a radio issue
3. you need to trial and error and check which radio version with which combination of ROM works best.
i am currently using PDAViet with the latest Radio version 1.70.19.09
finally, as a junior member, id like to request some of the senior members if they could come together and setup a thread which addresses the best combinations of ROM and radio versions most suitable for GPS applications.
that would help beginners a lot, as i myself have gone through a lot of searching for the proper combination
p.s. - even with what i have, it takes about 3-5 minutes before i get a lock, as against when i was on winmobile 6, i got a lock under 1 minute flat!!
Just wondering why dont you use Garmin, it is wonderful in my Tytn2 now, when I am in my car, it takes about 10s to get full GPS signal ...

My GPS can NEVER pick up any signal whatsoever.. details inside..

It used to work fine, until I installed a cracked version of iGO8. (But I'm not sure if this is why GPS doesnt work anymore).
Heres the details:
I Use Com4 4800
Quick GPS downloaded to latest each time
Tested in clear sky days (No clouds at all)
Used google maps, garmin XT (seeking GPS satellites (0)
HSDPA, 3G constantly 3-5 bars
Each time, they would try to track down a satellite, but never works. Not even 1. However, Built in gpS does work as gogle maps can track me down still. So its got to do with my GPS communicating with the Sattelites..something went wrong here (My assumption)
Tried for 5 minutes, 30 minutes, nothing.
So, I rang Xperia centre, andthey said its issues with my network connecting to GPS.
Whats this mean? Will uprading my radio to latest make my GPS work again? or WORSE??
Upgrading radio could help. Maybe the thing you installed edited the radio somehow?
if you BOUGHT it you would have customer support.
The problem with cracked software is its not very trustworthy. Plus your phone might not be supported by the original software. do you have the option to uninstall the cracked igo software? Do you get a lock when you use google maps? if you do then its just igo, if not its probrobly stuffing up your radio. If you cant uninstall it or you can and theres no improvement then its either try another radio or hard reset.
Maybe you should BUY your software next time and not have this problem.
tomtom works great, Ndrive works good too.
Try this...
try to delete the file of the quick gps software. I had a similar problem and I fixed with that.
you can find this file in "windows" and "temp" folders. the file is called "xtra.bin" in both folders. delete the files and try again.
in my case my xperia didn't find satellites and got frezze after a few minutes. after delete the files my xperia works fine again.
