Hi,
I'am French and new in your community, I have a Tattoo since 2 months
I would like try to build custom rom but i have several questions
When you build/test your rom, you always test directly on your device ?
Is it possible to use the Android SDK emulator to test our own Rom ?
There is a site or others that explain the Android boot process ? or this boot process is exactly the same as in a classic linux ?
Thx.
Android is based on Java, which runs in a Dalvik VM on top of a Linux base. Linux is actually the internals, the hardware detection, etc.
When you boot up the Tattoo, it loads the linux kernel holding all the things required to boot Android. It then looks for the system partition, and then starts the VM to load Android's java apps.
Hey all, i don't use windows, only have a virtual machine (which doesn't seem to work well with adb).
Does no-one use linux to flash here? I'm looking for a linux only tutorial?
Cheers,
D
I've got root trough VM with one-click method. I was using VMWare Player in Ubuntu 9.10.
adb is working fine on my gentoo machine, it is even better than on the offtopic I got root and everything using linux. And you don't need different tutorials - everything is almost the same.
here ya go! hehe i hope this will help u! if u need any help just pm me, i use ubuntu everyday and for everything!

Hello,
I couldn't post in the development section so i had to use this section. I'm having some problems with ther Linux app (Ubuntu Installer precisely). I downloaded the free version and installed the small ubuntu image. It worked more or less, but the terminal (the GUI one) didn't worked at all (it opens but I can't type on it). So, i removed the ubuntu filed, installed the paid version and downloaded the ubuntu 10.10 full version. Now ubuntu don't even boot and i keep getting this error: data.imagup .com/10/1150222241.png
Can anyone please help me make it run ? I'm on a rooted stock LC1 rom.
Hey,
This is in the wrong section I think it belongs in q and a.
But to respond to your problem, many users have not experienced and so cannot help you with.
Also, you may want to just reformat the hard drive with a different verison of linux.
Thanks

I have tried noobs installer but there is no ubuntu option. Anyone know of another way to do this?
try berryboot. its like noobs but you can add your own OS for bultibooting.
you can't boot osmc with berryboot. but yes you can make your own noobs with install files. read this post: https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=91&t=111431 here you can find out how to make noobs to boot with system that you want to install. here are ubuntu files also: http://forum.xda-developers.com/raspberry-pi/development/ubuntumate-port-noobs-t3267928
Hi,
I would like to know if someone can explain how to build a rom for MI5 on MAC, if it's not possible, i have a windows VPS, thanks.
You can use VirtualBox(VB) to install Ubuntu. VirtualBox is a VM software and what it does is to emulate a computer inside your computer. This allows you to run your MacOS while having VB on to run Ubuntu. From there on, you can use the guide given in Cyanogen mod wiki to build the ROM for Mi 5!
