Same routine, different outcome... hum...? - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

when i got my diamond, it was running a bit on the sluggish side since someone else had their stuff installed and regardless of how i uninstall the apps, it still had residual footprint.
So i did a clear storage figure that will get me going on a fresh rom and it did. had a few issues with gps and gps only until recently i tried to flash other roms and radios, certain apps started to act up like spb mobile shell 3.5; change sound profile did nothing, it was getting stuck on one.
No biggie, let me do a complete hard reset via vol down and center maneuver. OK, all cleared and removed "program file" folder in internal storage and any other junk in there... i proceeded to add back all the apps and now i find the gps to be working better and it's a lot faster; just wish i can uninstall TF3D, it's taking up space i would like to have. the status bar also now has the bluetooth icon up there whenever bt is on; it wasn't like that before.
??????
Not sure what's going on here but if i hard reset again.... what will be the outcome? anyone else notice each hard reset, things get a little different? or am i just smoking too much crack (again.. lol)?

Is there any way to backup the WM5 version?

I know that the current versions of Sprite doesn't work, and they're working on a WM5 version, but is there anything at all that can create a backup of a working unit as of now?
Now that WM2005 uses persistent storage we don't need to back it up do we?
Won't the apps and contacts/calendar remain even if the devices loses power or is hard reset?
Yes, you're right about that. I tested that yesterday, and the unit doesn't loose anything. But I like to experiment with different types of software, and then sometimes a mere uninstallation isn't enough. Like NiceStart, that made the unit wake up again and refuse to be suspended when it was uninstalled, so I had to re-install it.
Which leads to my way of doing things: Making full backups (on Windows computers I use PQ Drive Image the same way I use Sprite on PPCs) before any significant change, so I can always get back to the smoothly running system I had. I wouldn't like to have to set up the whole thing from ground up again because of some misbehaving third party software not to mention an ill-adviced registry hack.

Did it keep yuor contacts & calendar aswell after the hard reset? Or did you have to resync to transfer them back?
Thanks
I didn't do a hard reset, I just removed the battery and left it out for 20 minutes. Nothing was lost at all. In fact it had turned on the WLAN while it was gone. Wish it could do that when I suspend the damn thing! Also, it first said that there was no Radio ROM, but a simple soft reset fixed that.

Tons of problems with Tilt after installing new CAB

I know this is my first post here but I've done my best to search the forums and I haven't found anything that looks like it helps me.
I just got my AT&T Tilt yesterday. It came unlocked (I'm using it with T-Mobile) and has an HTC ROM installed as well as various other apps (Ms. Pacman, TomTom 6, SuperDoku, etc.). I had some issues with it locking up yesterday (similar to what I'm experiencing now but to a much, much lesser degree) when I was playing around with it but those issues somehow corrected themselves.
This morning I installed the Tilt keyboard fix that TaurusBullba posted on here back in June to fix some mapping issues. Since I installed and soft reseted, everything has been going kinda haywire. The Wi-Fi turned itself off and I can't turn it back on. When I slide out the keyboard the orientation stays in portrait mode. When I try to shut down the phone using the power button it hangs forever. Now, actually, half the time I press the power button nothing happens at all.
I've tried uninstalling the CAB but that didn't fix anything at all. I'm afraid to try a hard reset because, from my understanding, I'm going to lose everything that came pre-installed on my phone for me. I should probably also add that last night I installed the Google Maps CAB with no problems whatsoever. Is there some simple solution I'm overlooking? Thanks much!
I would advise that if you have tried soft resets to try and resolve the issues and it hasn't worked, then perhaps a hard reset?
It sounds as if the software you have installed as either caused the problems or exacberated them (ie made them worse).
With hard reset it wipes everything back to when you got it. If you are able I would suggest that you plug it into the computer and make sure ActiveSync backups up your contents. You may also want to use this get all the files on the main memory either to the storage card or to you're PC.
As this is yo're first post I don't know how au fait you are with the above that I have mentioned
The preloaded apps will be reloaded again. You won't have an empty ROM if you do a hard reset. It will be as if you just flashed the ROM again.
Thanks for the replies guys. I went ahead and did a hard reset and it looks like the only thing I lost (or at least the only thing I miss) was TomTom. I've already reinstalled that using a link I found on here, and everything seems to be good to go.
I still have no idea what might have caused the problems though, so I'm afraid that they might come back or I might repeat some dumb mistake I made. I guess I'll just have to live with that for now.
clear storage / hard resets no big deal, just expect to do it every other week while you're finding all the cabs that work (or dont work) for you..
I generally clear storaged every week when i first got my tilt until I found all the app's I liked that didn't have side effects

Eternal Pie Wheel....

I have upgraded my Tytn II with the WM6.1 rom from the HTC site.
Since then I've noticed a couple of hours after a soft reset the pie wheel indicating busy pops up every 5-10 sec. As far as I can tell there is nothing I have installed that should require it to be thinking.
The phone then behaves very sluggishly till I soft reset again.
I thought it was maybe activesync.
I downloaded "MemMaid" so I could see what might be going on and terminate activesync.
Still no joy.
Anyone else able to suggest anything for me to try?
Is your phone a tilt?
Do you have Spb Pocket Plus Installed?
Just wondering if you have Spb pocket plus installed? If so, the problem may very well be just that – Spb Pocket Plus. Change your settings. I think you navigate there by going to Start - Settings - System - Spb Pocket Plus. Under that, you will find the relevant setting(s) to change. Once there, disable the "Refresh icons in today plug-in-when storage card is inserted", under the advanced options. I think this may be causing your headaches. – SOFT RESET AFTER MAKING CHANGES and hopefully, the hourglass will be gone. I used this program once a few months back and the same thing happened to me. My fix was uninstalling the app, but that may not be an option for you.

P.S. Report back here and let me know if this works or not.
P.S.S. Also, try uninstalling those programs you mentioned before you had the issue, ONE BY ONE, followed by soft resets after each one and see if any of those may be the culprit.

help plz my tilt is eating memory

Last night I got a popup saying that my storage memory was low. it was at .05mb. I thought this was a bit low, but I went and deleted some stuff and got it up to 5.5mb. I then actually watched the memory count down to .01. I dont know if this is a virus or what. I tried to use sprite but it didnt work, also there is an icon was added to my HTC launch page, looks like a piece of paper witha windows symbol.
i have HTC Home, touch cube, kaiser tweak, voice command, garmin xt, just the basics. Please help
try clearing the browser's cache. the same thing happened on my old ppc even though I know I didn't have much installed, but clearing the cache fixed it.
I dont think it was the cache that was the problem but i could be wrong, i kept deleting stuff and nothingi did worked. Also when i hooked it up to sync it just kept cycling through the sync.
Needless to say i just did the hard/doft reset back the the beginining. Now I have to decide whether or not to reinstall all the programs or flash the rom
Are you using a cooked or stock ROM? A lot of cooked ROMs will contain fixed-size page pools, and while they are great for performance, they tend to have memory leaks.
i am using a the stock rom
None of the programs you listed are known for causing memory leaks, so I would reload all of them as usual, and see if the problem returns.
It may have just been some registry corruption causing it.
Well Windows is know to cause Memory issues.
Best thing I can recommend is a Hard Reset and Restore all your programs.

I see you're using Garmin XT, now i don't use that program, but does it download maps? I know that most mapping programs can chew through memory like you wouldn't believe. I use all the other programs and have never run out of memory before...of course truth be told, i've never left a rom on for very long either...

Diamond Reset Itself, Locked Main Memory, Much More!

Hi, I've been trying to track some answers down all day about this, and I have no idea what's going on.
Last night, my phone was being a little slow, so I held the power button down and rebooted it. When it turned back on, it asked me to calibrate the screen and asked me if I wanted a password, and when I was finished, my SPB Mobile Shell didn't launch, and I noticed that I had no contacts, texts, or e-mails anymore.
However, it keeps on telling me that my storage memory is critically low. My theory is that my data is all there, I just can't access it for some weird reason. I ca actually use my old ringtones, so it wasn't a complete hard reset.
At first, I tried to hard reset the phone, but I don't have the "clear storage" application at all, so that's out. My next step was to try and see if I could somehow et someone at the phone store to flash it, but they just told me I had to buy out my contract because they are dicks. Big ones.
So I went home and tried to flash my ROM back to stock, so that at least I could erase the storage memory and restore some semblance of functionality, but I can't even do that. When I try to use Sync, the phone won't work, and on my Windows 7 machine, I can see that I have used 100% of the storage memory, and the drive is completely locked. I can't remove files from the computer, nor on the phone itself.
I tried to flash the thing, but even when I put it into the bootloader mode, the Flashing stops at 0% and nothing ever happens.
The phone is a CDMA Diamond 500, with MTS as the carrier. I just want to have access to that drive, is there any possible way to do this? Any info would be greatly, greatly appreciated.
Thank you to anyone who helps me out!
Just a quick note:
I found another person exhibiting this exact problem, but his problem was solved by hard resetting the phone. I can't hard reset my phone through ordinary means as described above, but is there any other way, like from the bootloader or by using hardware buttons? If I could hard reset, I think I could fix this whole mess.
Never mind, I managed to get it done.
Nothing to see here, folks.
I would use "Microsoft My phone" to back up my contacts and photos docs etc on your device drive. I'm not sure that a hard reset would even effect your "internal storage" so it's worth a shot.. You can find a .cab in the marketplace for the program. I know whenever I flash my phone it doesn't effect my Internal storage.
Sorry... to hard reset from bootloader hold down the volume down button and the center Touch wheel button and power button when you turn it on.
