Hi all,
I have a problem with my G1 phone, I cannot synchronize with Google account. I always receive a message like that: "Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly", my ROM is CM 4.2.5 but I don't think that this ROM error.
At first, when I bought my phone is still OK, then I installed My Backup Pro, it backup and erased my contacts, then I cannot sync to my account, event I used ROM Hero, it still got that errors.
I wonder It maybe conflicted with My Backup Pro, I uninstalled it but nothing changed.
Or my contacts are so much, it's approximately 700 contacts.
Can anyone solve this problems? Thanks in advance.

he already said he is using Cyan 4.2.5......
How long have you been having this problem? Can you get a logcat just as you attempt to sync?
A wipe may fix this, but if you don't want to, just give us a logcat so we can help you out

I had this problem about 3 months ago? A wipe cannot fix this. I've used many ROMs event Hero, when I sync it took a long time, about 15 minutes, I tried it both mobile network and WIFI. When I checked my google account. So I have to use My Backup Pro, It wastes time to Backup and Restore.
No one has the same problem???
I would try clearing data from all google apps (menu->settings->applications->manage applications), also anything that may be remotely related to contacts (such as .... contacts.apk lol) That should fix it. Try toggling all the check boxes in "data sync" submenu.
Good luck.

Hi all..
I've tried searching for answers to my question for ages and its a no-go so i'm posting it here.
So here's my problem. My contacts are synced on google (not phone or sim) and their names are not the same as in facebook. When I sign in to facebook, as usual we're given 3 choices:
- Sync All
- Sync with existing contacts
- Remove facebook data
If i choose the 2nd (sync with existing contacts), only a few gets synced as not all of my contact's names are the same on my phone and on facebook. So i choose Sync All, and then manually join the contacts.
I'm on Darky's 10.2, and on TiBu what system app should I backup the data so the contacts i joined manually are retained when I flash a new rom with a full wipe? If i just flash a new rom everything disappears even after i've signed in to google and synced all my contacts. All their pictures are gone.
BTW I dont use the samsung's built in SNS account and have even deleted them off my phone.
Should I backup the contacts application? I've been trying many things and all dont seem to work. I just dont know which system app data to backup.. Its a pain to rejoin each and every contact after every reflash (which I do a lot)
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Titanium backup. It might be the greatest app for android. I have backed up with titanium then a full reset and full wipe flash then restore with titanium and it is as if nothing even happened. I have ran in to the issue with using a different Rom then the backup and restoring the system data can screw things up. So I just go into titanium and choose only my contacts, wifi and Bluetooth parings.

You've quoted a over year hold post, chances are that you won't be getting a answer from him eh.
Restoring a system app is ALWAYS a bad idea, so don't go for that option. I never looked for a option myself but there should be a way to manually backup your current contacts (with pictures and everything) to google.
I have this problem on ICS...it's not rom related...cause i had it on Blue Lightning 1.1.0 and also on SLim ICS 3.1...the problem is that after some time (also after reboot) my contacts in people apps dissapear...it shows no contact...but when i open phone app contacts are dispayed there...i thought taht problem was because i had inverted contacts app...but now i have normal and again :/
Can anyone help me with this problem?
Have you cleared data from people app and contacts and everything contact related? Also download TB and do it from there. I had problems with my keyboard and somehow deleting from manage apps didn't work but deleting from TB solved it. Somehow its more through.
Have you factory reset from recovery and wiped cache, dalvik, system, etc..
Then flashed a rom fresh?
Of course i've done full wipe...and i tried clearing data of contacts but i don't try it through TB...i'll try and it now thanks but it was on two roms...my friend also have this problem now... :/ we don't know why...
after 2 reboots same again...no contact in people app...but through phone they are there... :/
I am in serious trouble w/ contact app too.
I am in ICS 4.0.4 Custom Rom(s). My Sync is always OFF..
Inverted or normal one make my contact members repeat to many times even 10 x the same member..
I am Cleaning data and reimporting them from Card but it has been doing the same behavior.
Upon a suggestion, I installed GoContacts EX and used its "merge" option but I observed this app erases fully the contact members itself. This apps also needs reimporting continuously.
I am sick and tired of this trouble..
Someone says SWYPE causes this problem, but I selected AndroidKeybord, still the same problem..
ANY SOLUTION ??

I can only think of two more things...
1. If both of you have it, it must be an app or something both of you are doing..
2. Another stupid thing that is probably tried... Go to the people app press menu, and look at contact to display..

I doubt swype is the problem i have used it before and nothing like this has happened. If it could be the problem you will probably have to disable the app from manage apps or un-install it for it to solve the problem
Where are all of you getting your contacts from, have you not stored it on google and then synced them. Or are they multiple sources?
Look at the pictures bellow...you can see that in people app there are no contacts but in phone app they are there! i tried to display all contacts and so on but no luck...
1. What happens when you click on "set up my profile"
2. Also when you go to "contacts to display" does the account you want show up?
3. Where are your contacts stored?? Google? Email? Sim card? sd card? Where?
4. When you try import it appears and then disappears later on....correct?
5. Have you tried wiping from Titanium backup?
Please answer all Q's
1. i can create my profile with my name i think...or what it is
2. yes they are both my gmail accounts
3. now on sd card...i tried it also with gmail and my friend who has this issue from sim...same problem
4. when i import them they are shown, but after some time they are not there, also after reboot they just dissapear
5. yes i tried it...didn't help
Full wipe again, fix permissions from recovery after setting up accounts manually (your not using back ups are you? If you are don't). Do this before setting up apps (let google download it automatically and finish, along with your contacts)
Upon reboot if the contacts aren't there again, delete one account and set-up again immediately. Let all contacts download turn off sync, go to recovery fix permissions, delete cache, and dalvik, reboot. Hopefully they should be there
If not then i think im out of ideas... Unless you want to see what happens when you go back to stock.... Its worth a try if its that annoying (I don't use the people app, only the phone app )
Very Good luck to you!!
My only Choice
As the most of ICS 4.0.4 custom Roms are connecting itself Wi-fi or Data and consequently as soon as connected it is syncing w/ google contacts even if it is set as 'sync off'.
Finally I could not find any other way but I rearranged my Google/ Gmail Contacts as the way I want in my phone thru the laptop.
It syncs but no more repetitions and erase.
Hello,
When I first turn on my phone, I added my Microsoft account. Then it downloaded the contacts, calendar events and emails.
Later on I updated a contact and realized that it didn't sync to my phone. I tried doing it manually (keeping my finger on the account and taping Syncronize) but that didn't do it.
So I thought maybe something was wrong so I reset the phone to factory settings, add my Microsoft account and... ONLY 3 CONTACTS copied over. I wipe the phone a second time and I get the same result. Third try, all my contacts are back but still not syncing.
Then I see that the only checkbox available for syncing on my default account is email. So it doesn't seem to sync contacts and calendar (which is weird). So, to test it, I modify an even on my phone and wait. It was never copied over to outlook.com.
Why? Why can't I syng all three easily like it does on my Windows 8 computer?
Did this happen to any one else? What can I do about it?
Thanks
Haven't seen that happening before. Normalyl I would say that a hard reset should fix that problem but given that you already tried that it seems like a rather severe problem. Perhaps there is something wrong with your Outlook.com-Account. You might want to contact their support team?
What phone are you using?

I didn't think of that! I keep trying to debug the phone but yes it could be on the outlook.com side. I'll check that out. Thanks.
I did a test yesterday. I added a new even in my calendar and it did sync. But I modified a contact and that did not sync. Very strange...

Thank you so much for that tip! I got support from them and there was indeed a problem with my account itself which they fixed and now it works fine! :good:
Since day one I am not able to open my Friends-list in Facebook on my HTC One phone. When clicking on Friends I will get this message: Cannot retrieve friends list. Please try again later. [1/An unknown error occurred]
When checking Settings/Accounts & Sync in Android I will find an red refresh symbol of Facebook and this message: Sync is currently experiencing problems. It will be back shortly.
I did completely remove Facebook, People and Contacts on my tablet, phone and PC. But after re-installing everything, the problem remains.
I am not able to see my friends list and can not tag friends in a post. Also my contacts pictures in Android are not synced with the Facebook profile pictures.
What can I do to solve this annoying problem?

Thanks for helping xineis!
I tried those steps but that didn't help either.
I removed and/or cleared:
PC>Facebook>Account Settings>Apps>every single app
Phone>Accounts & Sync>Facebook
Phone>Accounts & Sync>Google
Phone>Apps>All>Contacts Storage
Phone>Apps>All>Facebook (also uninstalled updates)
Phone>Apps>All>Facebook for HTC Sense
Phone>Apps>All>Google Contacts Sync
Phone>Apps>All>HTC Sync
Phone>Apps>All>People
I also removed all contacts from Google contacts on my PC.
After these steps I open Facebook, and after filling in my credentials I choose Sync all. After a few minutes, when I check the Phone>Accounts & Sync>Facebook option I will find an exclamation mark right next to the refresh symbol within Facebook Contacts.
I tried all kinds of configuration but never have been able to solve this issue. Facebook will simply not sync the contacts.
More suggestions please!
Just tried a full wipe but that also does not change anything. Than I tried another Facebook account and that worked just fine. But when I tried mine, same problem remains. Must be an error on Facebook server.
How can I contact Facebook directly? The help function sucks and it seems they just ignore my messages

You even tried the "change password" step?
humm, I don't have the One (yet), but as any Android device it probably has that reset button (is that the "factory reset"?). I know it's a little harsh but it could (maybe) solve your problem...
Have you tried alternative facebook apps like Fast for Facebook and Haxsync? See if they have are having sync issues as well. Also, is your phone 'authorised' by Facebook? Long shot but worth trying

Ok I had the same problem for ages and one day realised that not all syncs were on - under phone settings yes but apps have individual settings that cannot be overridden by your phone... I'm sure you wouldve tried something so simple but just in case - go into your Facebook app on your phone, under the menu tab select 'app settings' and at the very very bottom of the list there is an option for how to sync contacts i.e. none, all or existing only ...
This is probably something that you've already tried but hey, I was silly enough to not realise!!
I'm sorry if this was not much help, aside from blissful simplicity I am unable to assist.
very useful info
Thanks so much for the useful info ^^^....had this same problem and thought it was the recent kitkat 4.4.2 update. Thanks...am sorted
As you see in the title, I have 2 problems. I am using Redmi K20 Pro 8/128Gb variant with CN Rom. I have tried unlocking the bootloader but 800h have to pass ?. Here are the problems:
1. Google contacts won't sync. No matter what I tried I cannot get them to start syncing. I have installed Contacts Sync Adapter 8.1 and 9.0, gave them all permissions, also installed Google Contacts app gave it also all permissions, and I was not able to get my contacts. In the settings, under Google Sync, contacts are not shown, just people details. If anyone had this issue, can help me resolve it, I will appreciate.
2. Google photos won't backup. I am getting same message since I have bought the phone: Getting ready to backup, and the number of photos is rising as I take photos. The app also has all permissions, the WiFi is good, the folders that I want to backup are selected, Google account has 14gb free but I am using unlimited photo storage. Tried reinstalling, clearing cache and/or data of the app, nothing starts the backup. Please guys, help ?.
Thanks in advance

No Idea about google photos sync but for contacts, make sure you have installed https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-contacts-sync/
give it all permissions, set it to autostart and disable battery saver. Then reboot the phone and you should see it able to sync in google.

You would have to wait sadly
I did face the same issue (Mi 9T) with Google Photos not syncing while connected to WiFi and I solved it in a silly way (I hate MIUI). I just enabled "cellular data back up" in Google Photos settings.
MIUI has removed the option to set WiFi saved networks as metered/unmetered, so the phone will treat WiFi-Hotspot and LTE modems as data not as WiFi.
