whats up guys?
I seem to be having a problem updating my rom
I have tried numerous ROMs from the site, but for some reason it always gives me a error when I attempt to download it.
Has anyone heard of this problem or can hand me any advice?
Thanks A lot
-Chris
What's up 2 u.
Have you read the Wiki or any of the stickies? If not, before you go any further, and make a paperweight of you device, you may want to read a little. You can't just slap a new ROM on there. You first need to prepare the phone. Lucky for you your device failed instead of breaking. Seems the phone is smarter than the owner.
"...the phone is smarter than the owner"
there is no need to be condescending, a simple answer leading me to the right direction would have sufficed.
I would thank you for your help, but I cant thank a person with a attitude as demeaning as yours....now my advice to you would be to grow up.
ciao

i got the same replies for some of the "senior members" on here, it's normal.
You say, you get an error while "downloading?!". do you mean, downloading the roms from the mirrors or an error while flashing the rom. If it's during the update, what error exactly?
I flashed my phone the first time last tuesday (NoThrill Rom, Hardspl, new radio) with the help of the wiki. To save you the work searching the wiki pages
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=KaiserROM_FlashingFAQ
1.) How to backup your old Rom for warranty return http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1586817
or download the right rom here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_ROMs
2.)Read through the HardSPL threads (if you don't understand it, read several times) http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=SPL Questions? and choose the right HardSPL version http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396922
(Searching for JumpSPL?? it's in the attachment of this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354061 )
3.) Read through the rom flashing process http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=KaiserIntroductionToROM_Flashing
4.) choose a rom here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Kaiser_Cooked_ROMs or from the rom developement board in the forum and flash it
5.) Check if you need a new radio (read through the thread for your rom) if you experience any problems
This is how i've done it. Took me about 5 or 6 hours for everything. If you have any problems with the flashing, all problems are known and there are threads about it
Good Luck with your phone.
Hey, thanks a lot.
Its a communication error during the update.
You have been really helpful with those links, I appreciate the time you took to reply.
have a good day.

I have watch videos...read instruction etc, etc, all I could on ATT Tilt/Kaiser flashing...I still don't have a clue. Do I do some type of CID unlock 1st....then is there a Jump SPL and than a Hard SPL. Is any of them two done from the boot loader screen. I can fix most electronics but I don't understand.. no you-tube video...i saw it on flashing the kaiser....sound quality bad for the hard of hearing (me).

Download Jump SPL and Run it. Then the hard-spl. This will then allow you to flash the custom ROMs on your Kaiser.
Regards,
Carty..
I just went through this a few days ago trying to flash my first custom rom. I have to agree it is incredibly confusing and contradicting, which is why I'm taking the time to post this. Just read as much as you can about it and don't try to flash the rom until you understand. I am no expert on this by any means, but this is what i did on my tilt to flash HardSPL. I tried to make this as simple as possible just so you see the exact steps I went through, but i highly recommend reading the thread linked in the previous post by Carty above and the other link I'm posting at the very end.
1. download JumpSPL1.93-KAIS.exe from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=354061.
2. get the hardSPL version you need for your rom. I used v3.56 from the link Carty gave you in the post above, because the rom I am using was based on the official att 6.1 rom. You may need a different one for the rom you want to flash I don't know too much about this yet. Leave the folder where you unzipped the hardspl files open on your desktop so you wont have to look for it later.
3. connect your phone to the PC, and transfer JumpSPL1.93-KAIS.exe over to your phone with activesync. Remove your microsd card if you have one on your phone (very important).
4.run JumpSPL1.93-KAIS.exe on your phone, it should go to a bootloader mode with the tricolor screen and underneath it will say USB.
5.Unplug the phone from the PC, wait about 5-10 seconds and plug it back in. Activesync should NOT be able to recognize your phone. If it does, something went wrong so start over.
6. Finally you can run the KaiserCustomRUU.exe from the hardSPL folder on your pc desktop and follow the instructions. It will load the HardSPL on your phone.
7. if you want to make sure it loaded, shut down your device and when your are turning it on press both the power and camera button at the same time, it will go into bootloader mode and show you what SPL is on your device. mine says SPL-3.56.Hard after I loaded the hardspl. You are now ready to flash a new rom.
This wiki helped me the most:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser#ROMx20.Upgrading
Read as much of it as you can, especially the "SPL questions?" link, that was the most useful for me.
I hope this helps
All good advice! I just loaded the HardSPL on my phone for the first time and it worked perfectly.
Now all i need is a work connection that doesnt block my attempts to download ROM's!!!!!!

Unfortunately this is the Kaiser forum and you will get even less help here.
Post your questions in the Diamond forum and people will help, when and if they are able. And in the meantime, read and search and try to figure it out for yourself, All the steps and instructions are there.
Sometimes people, unfortunately, mistake this site for the HTC free support line, with 12 techs waiting at their PC's to help. Then they get irritated that no one answers their requests for help on a timely basis . If people won't or can't answer your questions then you need to figure it out on your own.
The bottom line is, if you don't know what you are doing, then you shouldn't be messing around with your phone. Sorry

And what I said was that this was the Kaiser forums and not the Diamond forums. Putting Kaiser Spl's on a Diamond will brick your phone faster than throwing it into a bucket of water. So I gave him a link to the Diamond forum and Diamond Security/CID/Sim unlocker.
How is your question related to the Kaiser forums ?
Will it work on my TP/Excalibur? No as phones have different hardware to which is why h-spl's are device specific.
The best way to help yourself and not get a brick "expensive paperweight" is to head to device subforum and do some reading, as last thing you want is to be creating a thread named "Help"

Since I cannot find anything helpful in Diamond forum, I dig around in other forums to try to rescue my phone and make it usable.
Which is a recipe for diasaster...seriously, if you are gonna do something as stupid as to try to make something SPECIFICALLY for another device work on yours, then you do not deserve to own a Diamond.
Hi everyone,
Since yesterday, i learned how to flash spl, and download roms and run them through RUU. I was unsucessful at first because of my firewall being on, and was able to flash roms without a problem after turning it off.
I wake u this morning, and tried flashing a new rom and I end up getting error [204] again. I checked everything from firewall, antivirus to even moving the .nbh folder to system 32, and still no luck. I wanted to reflash the phone back to the original TMOBILE rom, but it wont flash. HELP!
Iv been on since 11am this morning trying to research what im doing wrong, and rereading the "flashing roms for noobs" thread over and over.
Please, any help would be greatly appreciate and I will send money through paypal if you can help, this is driving me nuts!

Make sure that you don't have any special characters in your folder that's containing the customRUU file (?, %, $...).
Also, run the CustomRUU as an Administrator.
And then, if those don't work, IM me: AIM (ace10134) or Live Messenger ([email protected])

Ah, I thought I'd reply quick enough for it to go in the future, lol. But I'm still waiting to hear from this guy, I'm eager to hear if anything worked.
Sometimes something similar happened to me when battery way lower then 50%.
If this is not the case, try this -
rename the *.nbh file from the rom to RHODIMG.nbh.
Copy this file to your storage card, to the root.
turn off your phone.
press VOlume down (do not release it) and start the phone
FOllow onscreen instructions and flash the rom.
I guess it worke the guy does'nt even have the time to say thanks!! LOL.

hi everyone, ill start by saying sorry if this is in the wrong place, but anyway, i am currently using itje touch it rom and i love it, but i saw his touch it leo rom and i like that one better.
My question is if i put on the leo rom do i have to hard spl the phone again?
thanks in advance for the help, and keep up the good work.
p.s sorry for my noobish-ness lol i oinly got my x1 yesterday.
NO, you only have to install hard-spl once.
wow that was sooo quick lol, thanks very much, i thought so i just wanted to make sure, as i read on a different site(cant remember) that you did, but on xda the threads say you dont lol.
again thanks you.
Haha, no it's fine to do it once. The hard-spl will stay on your phone after each flash. spl and rom have nothing to do with each other. So only once!
another question
i have another question. it says in every thread that hard reset after installation.
if i use the PC method (with rom update utility that is) would i need to hard reset as well? also what is the purpose of hard resetting? does it improve the performance ?
I recommend everybody to do one or two hardresets after flashing the rom.
hardreset basically resets your device and starts flashing the rom out of the memory.

hardresets normally removed left-over files from the previosu ROM's after flashing. This should, in theory, provide you with a clean ROM to start with.
I want to say thanks first for the help so far.
So I finally managed to hardspl but that was it unfortunatly.
Your dummies guide is quite good, but for someone not technical at all and normally not into handy programming etc???
HSPL3 is OK I have it.
As of HSPL4 I am stuck: I ran the the blackstone rapper with the nbh file, also ok
I do the hard reset and than I still have my old SFR etc on the phone (I have also the problem with the colours, but that is the least problem at the time)
I than tried to flash an other rom (Miri) and there I get error 240 (file open)
So I thought I do the hardreset again (bootloader showed than my old version, do not ask me why) I did everything again and I am stuck again.
After two days it starts being quite frustrating I must admit but i stay full of hope for your help
Thanks again

As I told you yesterday, please post your questions in the correct place. You have obviously read the Dummies Guide, so please post your question in that thread and do not start your third new thread. This thread will be closed as soon as the moderators find it.
If you have the colour problem your hspl was obviously not successful, are you sure that you did not try uspl, which may explain why your old spl is back?. In bootloader mode what spl is showing? It needs to show 1.56.Olinex (see picture)
ERROR [240] : FILE OPEN
When this error message appears, check whether the downloaded .nbh image is placed in the same directory as the RUUWrapper. If, for some unknown reason, you find that the ROM image is not located in the RUU folder, you have to download the RUU and retry again. Check that the contents of the folder is a CustomRUU.exe file and an .nbh file.

If you post in the right place I'll try my best to talk you through the process, it's really not that difficult.
Please post your query within Dummies guide thread and myself or someone else will answer your query.
Please try and abide by forum rules in future. No need for new thread. This has now been your 3rd unnecessary thread. Consider this your first and last warning. Failure to comply with forum rules will result in a temporary ban!!
