Bad news for Spotify addicts - Hero, G2 Touch Themes and Apps

Hi
I have been playing with the various Eclair ROMs from the Hero development forum and figured out that Spotify does not work on Android 2.0.
I wrote to premium support and asked if and when we could get a 2.0 compliant version of Spotify. The answer was:
Hi Rolf,
Thanks for the mail. We currently only work on 1.5 platform but we are looking in to getting more versions of Android, but it's difficult to guess a timeframe. We will post on the blog for news like this so please keep an eye!

This makes me very sad. I will then have to choose between Eclair and Spotify.
Please, please, please folks. If you use spotify mobile, send the same request to [email protected]. If they realize a lot of people wants Spotify in Eclair, maybe they prioritize getting it working.

X-2-TOUCH
"This is basically a revisited TouchX 10.1 rom updated, a keeper for any TouchX 10.1 lovers. (Looks, Speeeeeeeeeed and stability )"
For me is the best because is the fastest ROM ever, have a lock, the visual is so much great, everything works fine , responsive, with no bugs and very fast but you have only to revert the X2 dial to X1 dial because the X2 dial is incompatible with manilla, there's a cab for this.
yabiostarr - You obviously are a noobie and failed to read the forum rules. Let me help you out with a direct link to it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?f=471
Here's a couple excerpts taken from the forum rules to help you understand why several senior members like myself become irritated when you post a thread that has been similarly posted several times before, and yet again...you reword and post a new thread basically asking the same exact thing!
1. Search before posting
Use one of our search functions before posting, whether you have a question or something new to share, it's very likely someone already asked that question or shared that news.
DO check whether your question has been asked before!
There are some questions that have been asked before several times.
Use the “Search” function on the brown menu bar on the top of the page. There you have the options the have Google search inside XDA-developers site or to use the built-in forum search.
If your search has no/unsatisfying results, try with different keywords.
If your question has been asked, read the thread or use the “Search” function to search through that specific thread.
If you don’t find the answer, try posting in that thread as chances are bigger someone can help you.
Alternatively you can start using the XDA-Developers FireFox & IE Search Bar Plug In.

Stop flooding, no offense, but if you had read correctly threads in this forum (wildfire android development) you would have see that anyway :
- HTC will release 2.2 roms for their wildfire smartphone
- Virgin Media annonced their release for this month / might be the first to release 2.2 for wildfire
- we'll get CyanogenMod 6.0 anyway, they need to work on it or get their hands on a wildfire 2.2 roms. just a matter of time.
plus, Virgin Media is only a telecom provider, they won't port themselves anything; they'll just wait to get the HTC 2.2 official (WWE / unbranded) rom and mod it to include their settings.
Please, check your sources before posting 2 lines concerning a mail you sent in a hurry and its answer, especially when its such a bad news / against every infos we have already.
If you want to see how things evolve, wait and see, read what's said in important threads and wait again.
There's no point in asking for links or infos / posting "up" / etc... as nothing concerning froyo has been released, any "non-productive" posts won't help relevant infos to be SEEN. who would read 57 pages on the WildPuzzle thread when most of the post are redondant and concerns problem users made themselves not taking time to read and flash correctly...
Sorry if I'm preaching on you, thats a "Developpement" forum, every new events brings a constant flood of impatient people. We need clarity
Ps: I'll finish this post by a simple hug, we cool right ?
im quoting from the email the twitter team of virgin media sent me: "There is an impending update for the Desire which is due to be released shortly. In regards to the Wildfire there is nothing we can say this stage or whether there is going to be an updated available."
and, no worries im not offended at all.
and FYI, i have read nearly all posts in all threads and ive been doing so for about a month now.

Middle august they posted this :
http://twitter.com/virginmedia/statuses/21400176328
without any other twitt about it, I take this link as reference. They might delay the wildfire's release, which would make sense as no one else announced official 2.2 roms (vodafone/xxx/htc...) soon.
There's also this post from MartinEve, you had read yourself :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8074616&postcount=28
Thats why 2 lines resuming the opposite with even less "official" source is disturbing
ps: I'm not saying you don't read anything, it's a small amalgam, I'm responding to you BUT saying things that applies for all
im just sayin what they told me. believe it or dont.
besides its not anything less official than what they posted in august.
and yes i read that and thats what made me ask them via twitter myself, in the hope of getting and eta or anythin like that.

So if the thread is done, where will people be posting issues, asking questions, and getting community support/advice?

I am sure he will start a new thread, when Cognition 3.0 is released.

dg is no longer supporting cognition 2.3b* but when 3.0 comes out he will open a new thread for that version. as far as asking about 2.3b* stuff, i dont think there is anywhere for new problems to be posted, just hope that it can be found in the original thread which is found here

Well, if there are questions / problems with 2.3b8....they need to be posted in a thread in General. If the ROM is no longer supported (thread closed) then it means just that. DesignGears is no longer supporting it.
Sorry,
-h8
Damn I knew he was droppin support, I just didnt think it was gonna be locked in the cell of roms that once were.
well it had to happen sometime I just feel like I have a discontinued phone now. I want to flash something else but all the other roms seem to have issues from the posts i have been reading, Cog is bullet proof I never had any issues really.
anyway did anyone ever figure out how to get boot sounds back on Cog 238 I searched and searched, nothing but dead ends.
Maybe just me, but I think dg got tired of answering "When's the next version of Cog going to be released?"
We just gotta hold tight until 3.0 is ready to roll!
I imagine any question you would have is probably already answered in the thread If you just search the thread. No need to make new posts on the same thing.
Version 3 is more than likely going to be based on the rogers froyo. it will be the first 2.2 captivate build. It should be pretty interesting to see. Would be awesome to get steam recovery on our too.

Don't take this the wrong way, but creating a website for the Thunderbolt right now is like showing up late to a party with a 12 pack of Bud Light. Everyone will be happy you came, but you didn't bring anything that wasn't already there. Now, if you show up with a bottle of Single Barrel Jack Daniel's, you will be the shiznit at the party. So, if you can, please try to bring something different to your website. With that said, I'll be sure to keep checking on your site, it's always nice to have more people at the party.

To be honest, I love this idea. It's kind of hard to find updated roms and mods for any phone, not to mention the Thunderbolt. BeardedMan... Why is making a website like this, which will (hopefully) be a good hub for Thunderbolt mods and roms, getting "late to the party?" Is there another website out there like this, besides the android forms or Rom Manager? If there is, I'd like to know.
frankzua77, I would like to say thank you. If this website becomes what I think it will, it will make modding the Thunderbolt so much easier. If you need any help, just let me know.
I think the problem beardedman is referencing is the fact that there are a lot of android websites/forums already (even thunderbolt specific) and that there are a lot of much newer phones getting the attention. I have yet to not find anything I'm looking for without a 10 second search on Google. And the Thunderbolt is real close to being yesterday's superphone, if it's not already.
Plus, the problem with any of these sites is someone has to maintain it...which means sifting through posts, updating daily, etc. Unless it's a wiki that anyone can update, it's the same reason that the stickies all get outdated. Heck, it's the same reason I've started threads on many forums for many topics trying to compile information and eventually given up.
Now that I've rained on the parade and come off as a prick, I do applaud the effort...even if it doesn't stay updated or become the hub you imagine, at least you have an idea and a passion and are trying to do something about it. Don't lose that. And who knows...maybe it's just what the community needs

I have a "Thunderbolt" folder in my Bookmarks (just like I used to with my Incredible) that I have the five links in. I can open all the links and catch up with all the newest Thunderbolt news, for the most part. And the Thunderbolt is old news actually, just being honest.
TUDrewser understood what I meant, I wasn't being rude. ThunderNet, trying checking the above sites, I bet you'll find answers to whatever questions you have.

Users can submit a MOD, Downlad mods or whatever right from the web.
Still a WIP, but just needs attention.
Not knocking this idea at all, but should really consider opening it up to a wiki format and not center only on the thunderbolt.
!
I really appreciate everyone that makes their point, I am currently working on the page. One of my goals is to have videos that can show you a ROM even before you consider downloading it. I know we are focusing on the tbolt, who knows maybe later on this expands to having other phones and stuff...

[Q] Are there any mods/hacks/anything yet? Also a few other questions.

I have quite a few questions. First, I know the device has been successfully rooted, but I'm not entirely sure what the means for us users. Have any impressive mods or hacks been released for the ChomeCast yet? Also, is it possible to stream from PC to my ChomeCast? And lastly, how does this affect battery life when streaming from an Android device?
You can stream Netflix, YouTube and chrome tabs to your device from your pc.
From an Android phone you can stream YouTube, Netflix and Hulu atm
It doesn't affect battery life at all, other than using the app since the chromecast is not actually receiving any data from the phone but from a server (Netflix, YouTube, Hulu) . Your phone only sends a link to the chromecast.

Have you looked at any reviews? Done any reading/research? Those are very basic questions, that could easily be found with minimal effort. This helps keep the forum from getting cluttered and the same questions from being asked again and again. The member here are less likely to help if you not putting much effort into finding answers. Just some friendly advice.
I will provide some assistance.
1. If you have a Chromecast with the original Firmware, not likely unless you got one of the early devices and it hasn't updated the firmware, then Yes it can be rooted. Device with newer firmware out of luck, at least for now.
There not much you can really do, even if you had a rooted Chromecast at this point.
2. You can cast YouTube and Netflix form the Chrome browser on your computer. You can also cast a tab form the Chrome browser and any content it may be running. There is also an experimental feature found in the Chrome Browser that will allow you to cast you desktop.
You can also drag and drop compatible media (Music, video) into an empty Chrome browser tab and have it cast to you TV.
3. I doesn't affect battery life on you android device. Your Android device just tells the Chromecast fetch the media from Netflix, YouTube or Hulu Plus and play it on you TV. After the media starts playing you could turn off you device and the Chromecast would continue to play the media.

After having read many reviews and articles on the internet about the capabilities, features and benefits of owning/purchasing a chromecast, I came to the realization that it offered very few, if any, of those things after the "update". Still, I had the same question as the OP and hoped that XDA might further my education on the matter. I assumed based on the date of their post, that the OP was as up to date as I was. So, I eagerly clicked on the thread hoping to find a friendly conversation about any possible progress, hacks, developer apps or current work arounds, but instead was met by what seems to have become the standard retort for anyone that has a simple question on xda. The only question you left out was, "did you even try searching?"
Honestly, I am not trying to be ugly or smart, but it seems like xda is an appropriate place to ask questions when someone has one. While I know that it seems like many are lazy and don't bother searching, reading or educating themselves before starting a thread and wasting precious forum space, sometimes it would be great to find real answers and and friendly responses without assuming the OPs back story. There, I got that off my chest and provided nothing useful to the conversation myself and suppose I am prepared for the backlash, but I'd rather continue my search for answers to my original question. Is there anyone out there making the Chromecast dongle worth buying and in return, accepting donation money from me for their work? OK. Off my soapbox, no offense and sorry for wasting thread space that is better left to developers than greedy users like me.

The very first post in this section is a sticky which contains a section labeled, "Apps, Mods, Fixes, Rooting, Tutorials". It has links to a bunch pertinent threads. There is a reason it's a sticky. XDA would become useless if there where multiple post a day asking about the same subject.
I was being friendly. I informed him that he could easily find the answers he is looking for with a little effort and doing so would keep the forum clean and people would be more helpful. It was obvious they where new (only three post) and I tried to offer some friendly advice that will help them in the long run. I even tweaked my wording as to not be too harsh. then I went the extra mile and answered his questions.
Right on. Any word on the SDK being freed up yet?
