I know this has been talked about on the cyan thread, but there has not been any resolution, and things get buried there very quickly.
Since the latest cyan builds (post google C&D), my gmail will never sync on a regular basis.
I have tried all the suggestions:
logging out of google via google apps
wiping
uncheck "keep home in memory" (spare parts)
sometimes it will work fine for days or even a week... other times the above "workarounds" will only last an hour.
last night, i relogged into my google account... today the entire day went w/o the email syncing.
is there anything I can do about this?? I know im not the only one with the problem, but i can't find any solid solution.
Disk space low?
Sometimes when internal disk space is low(apps installed onto the phone instead of an sd card) Google sync stops working.
Sorry if that isn't the problem/solution for ya.
im using the stock apps2sd built into the ROM.
while Local was not installed on earlier builds, I did have it on 4.5 +
I uninstalled this and now things to be syncing correctly. again, I had this issue for a while w/o Local installed...so I don't think this is the cause.
but for now, its working.
anyone else?
take that back... its back to not syncing right away...
I wiped and reinstalled from scratch. HTC recovery then Cyanogen's latest. No luck on the synching.
I installed WG versions of Cyanogen's rom and the sync works with it. Which leads me to believe something in our devices combined with CyanogenMod is somehow interferring with sync. What apps do you have?

I've been flashing my Tilt wit several custom roms lately. A couple days ago I found an option to "terminate data connection" when the device went to sleep. I can no longer find that option! I thought it would be under comm manager, phone settings but nothing. This really kills my battery when I can't be checkin if I'm connected every half hour
Also, around the same time of not being able to find that option, After flashing the latest builds it seems I can't sync with Yahoo mail. So I install Seven, that successfully syncs, then I try to uninstall Seven (I don't find it necessary) but I doubt it's fully erased. Anyway, my phone can then sync everytime afterward. Can someone explain to me why this is? And is there a way to skip installing Seven completely?
Diggin the loads of help around here...
I'm updating this thread because I have even more problems.
I was able to grab a different Micro SDHC card this morning and I re-flashed the SuperD 1.11 ROM on the phone. It went fine and I tested the browser first thing. It hung for about 30 seconds, then loaded my home page. I thought I'd solved the problem finally, but I'm back to a non-functioning browser. The browser app opens, the progress bar starts, and then nothing. Web pages simply won't load. I have data up and down with the apps, text messaging works, phone calls work fine, just a dead browser.
One more new problem, maybe related. When I reboot, the widgets on my home screen sometimes fail to load. It's intermittent, not on every boot. I get the "Problem loading widget" error in each one's place. I can drag them to the trash and re-add them and they work fine.
I re-added all my apps directly from the market this time, re-downloading and reinstalling them on the clean install with the new SD card. I did a Nandroid backup after first running each app once to make sure everything was working. When the browser failed again, I did a Nandroid restore from recovery. It took about 20 minutes (don't think that's normal) and then when I rebooted I still have the browser failure. If I've uploaded correctly there's a pic of a very slow restore in progress.
At this point, I have to consider giving up. I would really like to have this phone working well again, and maybe donate it to someone locally. I have ordered another phone (HTC Desire) since it was about time for an upgrade, but I really want to solve this and fix the problem Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Below is my original post, with what I had tried so far.
Thanks - Tom
---------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm having major problems with the stock browser the last couple of days. I can't get any web pages to load.
I have data up and down no problem, over 2G, 3G and WiFi. My APN settings are correct, I've checked them repeatedly. Market, widgets, apps all connect great. In the search widget I even get the search suggestions as I type.
I had been using the stable Cyanogen builds for months now, with little trouble. This is a new problem for me.
I've cleared the browser cookies, cache, etc from within the browser settings. I also cleared the data from Settings/Applications/Manage Applications/Browser.
I'm experiencing this problem on more than one ROM. I tried the Cyanogen 5.0.7 test3 and gave up trying to make it work. (browser + USB mounting wouldn't work for me with Cyanogen) I am now on my second install of SuperD 1.11, same problem with the browser. I even went all the way back and re-rooted and re-flashed everything from the DREAIMG.nbh through to the Haykuro SPL, Radios, Amon-RA recovery v1.6.2 and SuperD again. I did that twice the last two days.
I've wiped the SD card and re-partitioned it correctly repeatedly while troubleshooting each ROM install. I'm using GParted w/Ubuntu 9.10 if that's important.
I've tried leaving the apps on the phone's memory, and with appstoSD, same thing.
I've tried both recommended radios (2_22_19_26I & 2_22_23_02), each radio tried on each ROM.
Tried fix_permissions from both terminal emulator and recovery console, I get "Permission denied" on each line, looping endlessly with the same error when it gets to com.google.android.server.checkin, and I cancel out of it.
Honestly, I'm a bit of a noob and I can't believe I haven't bricked this thing yet. There is a ton of good info on the wikis and many how-tos I have read and searched. At this point I am out of ideas and don't have a clue what to do next. I may be missing something basic here, but I can't find it. I have great backups of everything and so I don't mind all the flashing and reinstalling. I just want to have a functioning browser. Any suggestions?
tl;dr Ahhhhhhhhh! Browser no good?! Why?
On the bright side, I'm learning so much now with all this troubleshooting...
I installed Opera and Dolphin browser just to see what would happen. Dolphin failed exactly the same way, but Opera is working fine. I'll make it the default browser and just go from there. Too bad about the stock browser, huh?
Anyone.....Bueller......Bueller?
I'm also having problems with the stock browser on Cyanogen 5.0.7 based roms (tried test 1/2 and Superbad1.2.1). Browsing works sometimes on 3G but almost never on wifi. Other programs and widgets can connect just fine on both 3G and wifi. So I went back to a nandroid backup of Vegas Legend and 3G and wifi browsing works just fine. So I thought what about other Eclair roms and flashed Kings Eclair 1.9. Here it also works as it suppose to.So now I'll try test 4 or a rom based of it, wish me luck! I'll let you know if I manage to get it to work...
Good luck Enberg,
My problem spans multiple re-formats of the card and different ROMs. Cyanogen's 5.0.7 and SuperD 1.11 both. The problem can't be with their ROMs, since they are working for others. There is something wrong with this phone, or I am doing something wrong, I don't know. I fail to understand how a problem like this could persist between installs, re-rooting, changing SD cards, etc. I'm totally baffled. Everything but the browser works. The Opera Mini browser is my only option for browsing, and I just figured that out yesterday while troubleshooting.
I try the browser on 3G, WiFi, even tried a neighbor's open WiFi to see if my router was somehow the root of the problem. No luck.
My new HTC Desire is shipping today so I will just let this go and trash the G1 in a few days. It's too bad because I really like it still and ran different ROMs/themes, etc with no issues like this. Time to move on.
Solved it! After numerous reboots and reflashing I remebered that old Hero ports usually required that you on first boot skipped all accounts setup etc and once you got to the start screen immediately start market. Then setup a google account and accept EULA for market. If this was not done market would not function. So by old habit this is what I always do after flashing something new. Since my last post Ive tried at least many different rooms (eclair without sense like CM5, ZXK Eclair and Superbad...) this way with the same result, none working stock browser (also Dolphin and Skyfire none working) on wifi but market, email, Opera etc working. On 3G everything works including stock browser.
This time I wiped everything (as usual) and flashed SuperBadCM5 V1.2.4, skipped accounts setup at first boot and once I got to the start screen I started Wifi and then started the browser and it worked! Then I started market, setup google account and accepted EULA. Then I tested turning off wifi and starting it again and browser still works!
Dont know if this procedure was what fixed it or if I was just lucky. Anyhow, I'm going to leave my phone as it is now for a while not trying to push my luck! Hope this helps.
Ok, I've mentioned this in the main damage thread, but it moves along too fast and gets lost among the shuffle and I don't want to clutter it anymore.
I, and I've noticed at least two other people, have not been able to send out emails since trying the OC kernel on dc 2.08.
The OC never worked well on my hero to begin with (guess I'm one of the people unlucky enough to have a processor that works just where it needs to and no more), so the first thing I did was a nandroid back to plain 2.08. But I still had the no email problem.
I've since then tried flashing a boot image provided by another user with no luck (but doing that does break wifi), flashing 2.08 over itself, upgrading to what turned out to be the broken 2.09, then downgrading back to 2.08, then reflashing over itself again, and earlier nandroids.
All that has still left me unable to send out emails. Or any data through email, such as when I delete an email on my phone hours later it will still show up when I log into gmail on my computer.
I've been on the phone with sprint and their advanced techs. Their guess is that somehow my email clients started using a blocked port to try and send out email info. The only way they know of to fix is to erase the account and start a new one. with gmail the only way to do that is to hard reset. So I made a nandroid, did a factory wipe, and tried that. When trying to create a new account I get the message that the mobile network is not available and to try using wifi instead. (This leads me to believe that the blocked port theory is probably correct)
So... how do I get my email accounts using a different not blocked port?
MOD EDIT - Moved to Q&A as not development related
Clearing data and cache in gmail and gmail storage under manage applications seems to have cleared this up. At the least, temporarily.
I used AutoNooter 3.0 on my gf's NookColor, and everything went great, but I set up all the logins under my accounts since she was gone. When she got back, I deregistered my account so I could set up her account. I accidentally left the SD card in, so I'm not sure if that's where my troubles came from. Now, youtube won't open, Gmail won't refresh, and the market is not downloading apps.
It looks like I could use ADB to get these fixed, but I can't for the life of me get ADB working even after following the exact steps. I've tried reflashing, but it's still remembering the wifi password and behaving the same way.
Do I have to do that 8 times reboot step, or is there something else I can do since it seems rooted to me except for the google apps?
Got it running. For anyone having this same issue in the future, here's what I did:
Erased and Deregistered
Reburned the .img onto the SD card
Reflashed
It was actually pretty simple. Now I just need to get to 10 posts so I can post in the development thread in the future.
I have Samsung Captivate with stock firmware, not rooted. I did upgrade when I noticed newer version of android was available, since then phone has been acting up. Battary consumption has gone up, I used to charge every other day, now I am forced to charge it every day.
Major problem I am noticing is active synch is broken. I had established connection with my work account long time before upgrade and it was working great. After upgrade, I can no longer connect to my work server. Tried deleting the account and adding it back again. IMAP works - and I can get emails, but it does not put the entries in calendar which active synch used to do.
One of the applications that I used to use frequently was TV.com which seems to be broken after the upgrade. Application does come up and allows me to select the show, but after that it just crashes. Again, it used to work perfectly and I have watched numerous shows on the phone.
Any help with these issues is greatly appreciated.

if you want to go back to froyo then download any Odin one click package for froyo and flash it in download mode through your computer
and if you want to remain in gb then flash any cm from with cwm recovery
A factory reset will almost certainly solve your battery issue, with the downside being that you will lose everything you have on your phone when you do it. This seems to be a common issue after the upgrade.
As far as active sync is concerned, I have this issue as well when both the 3g and wifi icons are showing. If both are there, it won't connect. If one or the other is there, it works fine. As far as I can tell, apps turn 3g on for location purposes, but it doesn't get turned back off properly. Foursquare was by far the biggest offender for me (so much so that I uninstalled it) but Facebook also does it to a much lesser extent. I don't know if this relates to your problem or not, but may be worth checking out.
