[REQ] tacile feedback (vibrate on touch) - G1 Apps and Games

As a winmo convert, I seriiously miss snailslug's touch response which you could set to have very soft vibrations on touch a release. Perhaps such a mod could be made for android. There is already some tactile feedback in 2.0, however I want more, everywhere, anywhere!

bump bump bump

Have a look at Accessibility->Kickback in settings. I just tried it and seems to do what you're requesting.

nope, it actually vibrates when the screen updates, which is kind of annoying if you got the download notification showing up and you want your phone to be silent... maybe i'll write an application that does this some time, but i gotta get into the whole thing first :S

This would need to be written into the framework rather than an app. I miss that WinMo app too and it was written as a driver that's loaded by the OS. That's not really possible with Android (using a Linux kernel) therefore it needs to be written into the framework (which can only be done by Rom makers, etc).

download any rom with the spare parts app added , in there is an option called haptic feedback , .....that wut ur looking for

PointUI on the TyTN II

I just installed the latest build of PointUI (www.pointui.com) on my TyTN II, and really like the slick interface and touch capability. Anyone else running this app, and if so have you run into any issues? The fact that the software will remain a free product makes it worth the "testing".
Thanks.
James
Theres a couple of threads on this already. I have installed it but my TyTN II locks up every time within 2 minutes of starting, even after a soft-reset so have given up for now.
I may give it another go when they fix all the bugs listed on their forums and add more features to make it more usable and by then hopefully my lockup issues will be solved as well.
I did use it for some days but I hate that the 'close' button is not an actual close button at all. It just minimizes the app instead of closing it. So it is very memory consuming.
But I did like the interface and the way it worked. Just wait a little longer to have them some issues solved.
plexat they have just fixed the close program issue today with this update
http://www.pointui.com/files/tests/hardwarekeys2/home.zip
Copy the exe over the old one and you now have a close button instead of a minimize one!
It also fixes the issue with hardware buttons not working.
the background color is horrid and the icons are goofy. but the app itself is pretty slick and i like the update manager.
i haven't used it that much, but the only bug i've experienced is while swiping my finger from side to side to move the applet ribbon the touch cube activates. i didn't know it could activate with a side to side motion.
anyway, for a beta product this thing is incredible. it has huge potential. after revisions, i think this will be a must-have app.
just installed it on my phone and it works for about 2 mins before freezing, once already its reduced my screen to randon red and yellow dots, so thats getting uninstalled.
shame really as the 5 mins i did get to spend playing with it i was quite impressed
or i would if it had a proper uninstaller
very nice!
Just installed this in a WM6 emulator (having no real WM6 hardware at this time) and I must say it is superb! It feels like an iPhone (heresy to say something around here, I know). I almost have to say that it is better then TouchFLO (Yet another heresy to say something around here).

No problem. I dont really know how I found it I have a tendancy to go to forums and open all threads that interest me by holding ctrl down and clicking on them. Then I read through and close them as I go.
I just happened to come across the update in one of the threads I was reading! One of the developers had posted a link to the file in the middle of a thread.

The cube activating is due to your touchflo config file. All you need to do is edit the config file to exclude pointui and the cube will not activate while pointui is open.

PointUI - some notes
Great app, but the problem is it cannot start my 3G connection when e.g. updating weather, or using update manager.
DAMN!
When I start the connection manually from normal WM6 interface, it works then, but it's annoying...
Any help with this?
Thanks,

You know, the saddest part about it all is that even with our $700+ dollar devices (unless you're like me and sold your soul to AT&T... $150 Kaiser baby!) we're all dying for a UI like this. Tell you what, if it wasn't for you guys and the xda-developers community, there's no way in hell I would have gotten this phone. Dutty's ROMs are magical stuff, man. Tell you what, after a few more weeks/months of dev. and a full version with a less... erm... blue background, I'd pay $50 for this program if it allows me to get through my day without ever seeing any part of the traditional Windows Mobile UI. I'd pick it up for $100 if they included integrated task manager, file explorer, media player, web browser, and other essential software. Hell, I'd gladly go higher if they allowed me to never have to see any part of Windows Mobile GUI again. The Kaiser kills the iPhone in functionality (that's why we're all here, right?), but man pointUI is a step in the right direction towards closing the "sexiness" gap.
Okay, rant over.
I'm note sure I would pay $100 for the UI, but I do agree that this is exactly what Windows Mobile needs. Overall function is great and with just a few minor fixes/changes this would be the killer app for any WM device.

I cannot agree more than what you say. HTC is a superb tool designed by engineers with some "help" from designer people. I love it, but my god the interface is sometimes not sexy at all (just compare the icons of pointui as an exemple
Iphone is a superb tool made by designers. I love it from a purely design point of view, but it lacks a lot of things engineers love (openness, 3G+, GPS, etc.)
Now the TYTNII plus a pointUI type interface would be the top must. The very few minutes I spent with pointUI, I loved it. I will keep it as soon as it really work and have more customization.
Now, I am sticked to HTC, because it is quite easier to adapt a new interface to an existing device, than the contrary
Thx

I had the same.. fairly easy to fix:
get yourself a registry editor (PHM for example)
navigate to: \HKCU\software\microsoft\today\keys\112
change: Default string to 'phone' (from Home)
change: Open string to '\windows\cprog.exe'
then i'd do a soft reset.
should work..

New Pointui Home 1.02b released with native support for smartphones

Can somebody test it on s730? Share your exprerience! Seems to me that it could bring more free RAM, more battery life, speedy reaction
Many new features, f.e.:
* smartphones support
* new black skin
* battery saving
* bluetooth switching on/off during call (also battery saving)
* speed increasing
http://pointui.com
Works well..sometimes a little bit slowly.
I'd locked my S730 by this tool.
Can anyone tell me how to unlock this?
New Features:
Lock screen can now be used on smartphones - you press up then down on dpad.
Yea, I have been using this SW for some hours and i love it!
Has some minor bugs. I cannot keylock the unit as ususal.
Then the home program shuts down. So I have to use the keylock that is built inn to this SW..
But now that I am used to this, it is actually better that the standard.
It also bugs up some times when using Comm Manager, I have not yet figured out when exactly this problem accures,
but Home then sometimes shuts down, and I have to restart the program..
But other than that its perfect. Fast, smooth fading menues, and looks great!

Thanks for your opinion, this SW little bit change the behavior of the HW, but according the programmer´s goal. The previous member contribution is typical, people does not like to read the manuals, sometimes problem is not problem it is a purpose how to use the HW effectively and users are lazy to read the changelogs .

I know what you mean
A little "Tip" if anyone wants to try this program on the S730.
I had to change the HTC Home settings "Time Out" to Never. Or else the it would go back to the original HTC Home after
10 minutes. (Depending on the settings)
Looks nice but too limited for my liking just yet.
Like, I want to be able to see the time AND appointments on the home screen, without having to scroll.
It should have more user-definable input, without having to get out a registry editor. It also needs some work to make it suitable for smartphones, like being able to add stuff to the icon bar on the home screen. Also, the application bar only shows icons in the Start Menu/Programs folder by default. I couldn't see any options to change it, or even a button to move back up the directory tree to where my icons actually are.
A working uninstall procedure would be good too!!
I agree with the mad ferret.
the customization is missing. for example where is the option to create a "favorite apps list"?
i really like its fast responsiveness!!! i wish windows mobile could develop something like that as native windows mobile software. so smooth and with such neat design. why cant they? are they ****ing retarded? instead we get slow menues and ugly lists like on phones of 1998. cant windows work with people wh o can create such amazing software and integrate it natively? cant they develop something like this themselfes? WTF
anyway, pointui is a very amazing piece of software. however, whenever i press "running programs" it freezes.... the update function doesnt work.
i prefer smarttoolkit!!
http://smarttoolkit.softonic.de/windowsmobile
Everything that's supposed to work with PointUI, works for me on my HTC S710/Vox. I do hope for more features and I am sure the developers are hard at work, but what it is now - it can only get better since it's amazing. I hope for it to run at system level, apart from that it's superb so far!
I've been using it for about a week now. I love the clean look, but I'm having one major issue. My number keys and my green key do nothing so I can't call any number that is not in my contacts without going back to the WM Home screen.
Anyone else have this problem? Or better yet, know how I can fix it?
But, yeah other than that I really like pointui. Hopefully the next release comes soon.

SMS Notification periodic

Hello,
Before my Diamond I had a Motorola v3 Razr. The Razr did give a sms notification every minute or so. When I received a sms, it gives notifications until i read the SMS. The Diamond only flashes the led light. Is it possible to let the Diamond vibrate every 3 minutes or so when there is an unread SMS?
Thnx in advance
Anybody an idear?
settings/personal/sound and notifications/sound (events and notifications on)
settings/personal/sound and notifications/notifications (go look for mms/sms, check "play sound", check "display message on screen", check "vibrate" or choose any combination).
now say thank you and go ...RTFM! (Read The F... Manual) before you post.
i also recommend a search on the forum. don't be lazy...

A bit rude and not even an answer for his question......
He is looking for REPEATED notifications......something SPBPhoneSuite can do for example. There may be other programs out there for the same purpose, don´t know of any freeware, though....

1. sorry you think so. don't get it ...what's rude? my 2 last recommendations?
2. the notification stays on the screen until you dismiss it, so why repeat? as a matter of fact i am not so sure it is not repeating...
i do know for sure that reminders do repeat so i can guess that all notifications are repeating.
i think he is looking for repeated sound notifications.
I'm very sorry when i offended some of you with my question, but the last post sums it all up. I'm looking for a repeating sound/vibration notification. I will try SPBPhoneSuite, but i'm not font on installing an whole " heavy" program for such small things. So when there is an alternative...please let me know
http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=368137Kukuriku - arrogance and rudeness are sometimes difficult to distinguish, but both are bad.
I did a freeware solution - DmsisAlert
Hi, i did a simple application that works on Windows Mobile 5 or superior (.Net CF 3.5 is a requirement).
To download go to DmsisAlert page and click on DmsisAlert link, unzip, tranfer the .cab file and install. If you like (or not), i will appreciate some feedback (you can do that on download page).
With Diamond is a good idea not to use the minimize functionality because after that there is no way to get interface back (allthough it still running on the background). I will work on a solution for that (i'm busy enjoying my new phone ).
hope that can help, helps me a lot

Ok it works just fine! Very nice program! But if i can say 3 things about it:
- The minimize function still doesn't work to well
- You cannot delete the program via the "delete programs" way
- I really like the phone to not only notify me via sound, but also via vibration? Is this possible?
thnx!

before anything thanks for trying my work... about your comments:
"- The minimize function still doesn't work to well" : You're correct, but in others devices without TouchFlo3D the minimize works a lot better. With TouchFlo3D this feature practically doen'st work (i believe that's the same for other applications that have a minimize function that puts an Icon in the Today Screen).
"- You cannot delete the program via the "delete programs" way": A fix for that will be available very soon
"- I really like the phone to not only notify me via sound, but also via vibration? Is this possible?": It's possible but i dont like the result of doing this with the easiest way, so this feature will be available not so soon (but i will adivise here when so).
I will make some changes and post here a new version with some improvements.
Thanks again for trying.

Hi Rik_X, after a lot of work (i posted the issue in different forums, but got no answer) trying finding a correct solution to uninstall and i ended downloading SkTools (i downloaded from here http://www.clickapps.com/download.htm?pvid=1324) and use a feature called Installed Programs and then Dmsis Alert was listed and i was able to uninstall it!! After that i install the version attached here and then the Dmsis Alert will appear again in the Windows Mobile Remove Program list. Sorry about the troubles that error could cause you.
Anyway i'm posting the last version the doesn't have this uninstall issue. I'm also working on the vibrate feature (still looking a direct interop way to do that).

Does anyone know how this affects battery life? I would imagine that running the vibration motor every time you touch the screen would tend to decrease the battery life a good amount

spb keyboard has an option to make it vibrate when you press the keys. Plus, its ALOT more accurate than the default keyboard. You also have the option of the vibration occurring before the key press or after
Try it out!

Nice App!
Using it on my Touch HD and it works wel.
Is there any way (or are there any plans) to invoke vibration on only selected applications (eg. phone dialer) or only when the on-screen keyboard is being used? I know there is a similar application that vibrates exclusively w/ the phone dialer.

@chefs: reward offer for "task-snoozing"

Dear Chefs,
thank you for all great work you have done so far!
I use the Energy ROM for about two months and I'm stunned about all the great features he provide.
However, there is one thing I can't stand: The lack of appointment- and task snoozing other then 5 minutes. This makes the remind function almost useless.
My German t-mobile branded TP2 (called: MDA Vario V) came with the option to snooze appointments and tasks by a selectable time. So I could choose remind me in one or half Hour for example or one day and many other options, rather than dismiss it over and over again every 5 minutes. This is really bugging me.
I found a fix from crackwhore but it seems to be not compatible with the current windows mobile 6.5 ROMs.
Because it is so important to me and, as I noticed, to many, many others I want to post a reward and invite everybody who want this feature to join me by posting how much you are willing to donate to the person who find a solution and share it with the community
A proper solution would be a fix that works for the latest generation of WM6.5 ROMs and it would be great to have it already cooked into the popular ROMs, including Energy ROM.
So if somebody finds a solution, everybody who joined me is asked to donate the promised amount to the person who provided the solution.
I start off with a offer of 10$
Feel free to join me and make suggestion.
And please be true to your word: Don't offer something you are not willing to donate.
Current Offers (25.10.2009 01:25 UTC):
10 US-$
and
0 €
Why dont you ditch MS with another commercial application in the market? Couldn't you able to find one? I dont remember it but there was a program like this. Google it I suggest.
You can set the "reminder" time as any minutes/hours/days when you add an appointment. Am I missing something here?
NVM, I solved it! I was able to replace the new Notification.dll that handles the notification bubbles with an old, stock one. See the next post for the solution I made!
Question
Did your stock German ROM have the notification manager, where you'd click the taskbar, and it brings up that full screen? And also, did it have the skinned notifications, like the EnergyROM does? Please just describe exactly how the stock ROM handled the notifications, describe it visually.
Information
I researched this for 5 hours, and I was trying to do this: I wanted to make the Notification Panel remain (Full screen when you click on Taskbar), BUT, I wanted to use the standard Windows Mobile notification popups, because those allow you to snooze better. Well, that's not possible, from what I could tell. It's either all or nothing, you can't mix Microsoft's and HTC's notification system.
Solution
So, you have to disable the entire thing, which means you won't have the finger friendly notification system when tapping on the top taskbar. You can find the registry to disable Notification Manager here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4125405&postcount=3
Advanced Notifications Power Snooze Appointments!
I solved it!! It's CABbed up, and available on my website, Wingster.
Get your solution here: http://thewingster.com/advancednotifications.aspx
And if you want to donate, then follow the link on the bottom of my Wingster website, or use this link: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=5401195
Maybe I should have waited longer, for the bounty to increase! Nah, I did this mostly for myself, but it did end up taking 5 hours! I hate registries!
How I Created It
I found the old NotificationLayout.dll, and used that one for handling the notification bubbles! This brings back the old WinMo notification style popups, but it also keeps the finger friendly notification panel! Win-win!
Imagine how fast the world is, I wish you could solve my break off with GF such a fast.
Have Fun, Cheers
Sunny
the solution that brings the old popups up, has been around since my touch x 6.0 and that is since december last year...
well well well......
Awesome. I had used the crackwhore one and it worked but this is better

Advanced Notifications Power Snooze Appointments!
I solved it!! It's CABbed up, and available on my website, Wingster.

Curious before I use this, how is it different than crackwhore's fix?

FYI, crackwhore's is a better solution it doesn't eliminate the repeat function so what happens you get the alarm one time which was just as big a concern that I've had with some of the ROMs.

shiat..might I add, you can uninstall the cab but the dll has been overwritten so some how I gotta find the original and use crackwhore's or hard reset plus crackwhores.

Lol dam. Wasted that effort for nothin? lol. Well we can add mine to the collection of CABs that do the exact same thing as the other
Hi,
sorry for the delay, but university was keeping me extremely busy this week.
However I'm glad you found a solution. It's so unimaginably convenient to be able to snooze the alarm!
However would it be possible to add some options? There is still room on the display for one option isn't it?
Very handy would be having options like four and twelve hours (half day).
I would rather surrender 10 minutes while already having 5 and 15 minutes.
(or maybe better: surrender 15 minutes while keeping 10)
However the current stage of development is already great and of cause I will stand my word of donating 10 bucks.
I invite everybody who like this fix to also support him since he was fair enough of not "waiting" for the bounty to increase first and he's doing a great job with his website anyway.
Best Regards, Time
PS: You are talking about other - already existing - solutions? I only found crackwhores fix and didn't get it to work. Well now I have a great one-click-solution I won't surrender ... would be just interesting to know.
PPS:
Question
Did your stock German ROM have the notification manager, where you'd click the taskbar, and it brings up that full screen? And also, did it have the skinned notifications, like the EnergyROM does? Please just describe exactly how the stock ROM handled the notifications, describe it visually.

By next week I will flash my ROM anyway so I could flash the stock ROM in between and check if that helps. Interested?

Yea, flash the stock German ROM, and see how that operates. It'd be very interesting if they kept the advanced snooze options while keeping the slick notification style too.
I think that editing the DLL's is impossible though, but I guess it'd be worth a try. My initial goal was to keep the skinned notifications but add the snoozing. That'd be the optimal goal, and I will try to see if that can be done!

Yourestarted your phone after installing it, right? Maybe his ROM has some different notification system...I could try to look into it if you can confirm it still didn't take effect after a restart.

Yes I restarted the phone after installation but it didnt work
I would reeeeeally Appreciate it if you could look into it
You dont even need to make a .cab file, just give me some guidance on how to replace the .dll you mentioned in your post that worked

Well.....
First, download This File, unzip it, and place the DLL in the \Windows directory of your phone.
Now, here's where it may be different, apparently. Using a registry editor (like PHM Registry), try to find the string that is called CustomUIDLL and contains NotificationLayout.dll.
That string key should be located under HKLM/System/Shell/Notification/OEM, however since the CAB didn't work, Valkyrie must have changed the location of the registry key. See if you can find it. Once you do, change the string value to: "NotificationLayoutOld.dll"
Hopefully that'll get it working!

OK.
Under HKLM/System/Shell/Notification/OEM i have one folder named "reminder" and 3 other items named "default", " customUIDLL", and "userdefaultUI"
if i click on customUIDLL the string already reads "NotificationLayoutOld.dll" ( iguess from when I applied the .cab file) so there is nothing to change!
Also here is a screenshot of the contents in the HKLM/System/Shell/Notification/OEM/reminder folder that I mentioned above
should i be editing the autodismissextendedduration file?
BTW I forgot to mention that when i install the cab file instead of "snooze' at the bottom bar I get the "menu' on the right and also another symbol on the left (like a phone with an 'x' next to it" but if i click on any of them the notification goes away and does not come back
So in essence the .cab works (because it points it to something else) but the location it point to, doesnt contain the necessary file to show up when you click on the the "menu' icon or the other icon that comes up SORRY I DIDNT MENTION THAT EARLIER BUT I WASNT AWARE OF IT TILL NOW.....
