HELP! My htc dream won't stop restarting itself! - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Rogers HTC Dream. I've had it for months now. I recently upgraded it to the newest version (1.86).
I was just fiddling with a new app I downloaded - "shake alarm" (where you need to shake it to stop the alarm) from the market. to test it, I set an alarm within a minute. after I closed the phone, I put it on idle. then it started to restart itself and it won't stop!
I've taken the battery out many times to stop it but it still won't load properly!
can someone please help me?

Well, I think the only thing you may be able to do is to do a wipe. Turn on your phone by holding home and power. Release when the recovery screen comes up. Open the keyboard, press Alt + W
When that is done, you can press Home and Back to restart. This resets everything back to factory, you'll have to set everything back up. I think that your downloads will be saved the first time you load up Market, but they'll be gone after that, so try to install them all at one time (that's if they are saved).

hm, I tried but it won't let me past the HTC loading screen.

Urgent!
My HTC dream has the same problem, its keeps on restarting and doesn't let me get to the recovery screen. Can't downgrade using fast boot as well, as it from Singtel. It used to happen before but used to get ok once i'll take out the battery and boot it again but now it just keeps on restarting. Anybody with a solution?

Or can anybody tell me why its happening?

G1 big problems

Hay i have a rooted G1 with Jf - can't rember what version.
I've been having lots of problems with force closing of various programs but otherwise everything was going fine.
After a few force closes today i decided to restart my phone, turned it off and then back on and stuck it in my pocket.
When i went to check my texts 5 minuets later i took it out and it was just stilling on the 'Android' splash screen - it was moving then freezing for a few seconds then moving (i don't know if that's normal but it wouldnt surprise me).
I took the battery out and restated again and exactly the same thing - it would not boot.
I did a quick search on the problem and remembered how to boot in camera+red mode - which the phone did fine. I then read that pushing green+menu+red would fix it.
I did this and the phone booted, but it lost all my home screen icons and was laid out like when the phone was bought. i then cheked an app or two and they are all still there and seem to have retained their data.
However other strange things are happening - the home button dosnt work, nether does the green, when i hold the red button i only get the 'power off' option not 'power off, silent and airplane' as i used to.
They are the problems i have found so far but there may be more. Basically i want to know what pushing green, menu, red actually does and i want to know what the hell is going on - im totally lost.
Please help
P.S. i did a test on the consol and it seems i still have root assess - just encase that relative
Go to recovery, wipe and reflash. It will solve all your issues.
I can't actually remember how to do that - can you explain more or link me?
and will it have any effect on my apps or settings?

You're going to need to go into recovery; press the home screen button, then the red (energize, end call, whatever) button. Hold both down until you get into recovery, which will be the text menu with all the selections available in green. Then scroll down to "wipe data/ factory reset" and do that- this simply wipes the phones internal memory. Then load the rom you are using, which I assume is already on the root of your sd card. If not, connect the phone, mount the card, and put the rom there before you get started with the above steps- chris

Weird G1 Problem

Hi All
I have been trying to root my G1. I downgraded it to RC29.
Then, it started behaving very weird.
When I boot up, I cant do anything from the home screen. Even if I try to open the app drawer, it immediately closes it. I cant open the dialer. I cant even go to another home screen. It immediately comes to the default one. I cant even power it off. I can only pull the battery off. But in that case, when I try starting it again, it goes into the screen with triangle and exclamatory mark. When this happens, there is nothing much I can do. So, I just leave it for a long time like a day. Then, if I try starting it, it boots, but again same problem as before.
I tried reflashing the ROM many times, but no use. After the reflashing, it has same problem again.
Try flashing a different rom. Sounds like you have a very unstable rom.
I have used the one cyanogen suggests in his instructions. It is the DREAMIMG.nbh and downloaded from android-dls.com
I have downloaded it couple of times and reflashed. So, its not that the file got corrupted during download.
Do you have suggestions about any other ROM?
Now, I think it is not a problem with the ROM
It is as if the Home button is stuck. That is why, it always comes back to home screen, and boots up into recovery since home+power is recovery mode.
Once in a while it randomly goes into the recent apps window confirming that it is a home button issue.
Any work around?

[Q] Captivate stuck on error msg at start and is not being recognized by computer

So I just bought an almost brand new Captivate from a friend 2 days ago. I managed to upgrade it to Froyo via Kies, root it, and unlock it. Then I realized 2 problems:
1. Home button was acting like a second Back button
2. When Auto Rotation is on, except Home every other screen is on lanscape view no matter how I hold the phone. When it's off, everything's vertical.
I searched for solutions the web and came across some post (I read so many posts that I can't even find it now) with "JP3.rooted.insecure.clockworkmod" that was supposed to fix the problems. The zip file contains 5 files:
512.pit
I9000XXJP3-CSC
I9000XXJP3-MODEM
I9000XXJP3-PDA.rooted.insecure.clockworkmod
odin3.v1.0
I used odin3 v1.3 since I had previously downloaded. I was stupid enough to hit start with only I9000XXJP3-PDA.rooted.insecure.clockworkmod selected for PDA and left everything else out. After everything was finished and the phone tried to boot up, it asked me for options of LauncherPro(I installed before) or regular home so I selected LauncherPro and Do Not Show Me Again. Then it gave me the error messege:
Sorry!
The application LauncherPro (process android.process.acore) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again..
If I click Force Close or ignore it, it'll go away for a few seconds, vibrate, pause, vibrate 3 times and th same thing again. Every now and then home wallpaper will show with the the buttons showing at the very button like normal, but I couldn't click on any of them and soon it would go into the same loop again.
Although I can get it to download mode at boot, the computer is not detecting the phone at all (it did with no problem before). I'm pretty new to all this and just starting to learn about everything. I've been sitting here for hours for this problem and I don't know what to do. Anyone has any idea? Thanks a lot.
Update: I've fixed it. Thanks.

[Q] [HELP] Something is SERIOUSLY wrong with my Moto G(boot loop)

So. My Moto G is completely un modded, not rooted, and is exactly stock how I bought it and haven't changed any of the software. My Moto G has been getting slower in the past couple of months with everything going slower than usual. I bought my phone in February 2014.
Yesterday while I was at school, in my pocket I had my phone. I felt random vibrations in timed cycles. So I pulled out my phone and had a lol at it randomly rebooted but came back to the home screen. As I started to use it just to send a couple of messages it rebooted again but this time after the reboot animations they just went on and on, what I've found out to be called a boot loop.
So I went home did some research and figured I would have to factory reset. I couldn't get into the phone therefore I had to do it externally. I got the the menu thing ( I think it's called fast boot menu ) and I wanted to select newer bootup or power up just to see if that would possibly stop the boot loop. I selected it and got into my phone, into setting and factory erased my phone.
Well I factory erased my phone and re installed the apps I on,y essentially use or NEED such a social media, within this time there was no unusual activity. Shortly after my phone randomly rebooted ( after downloading the apps ) and turned off, and then went in to the former boot loop! I was furious!
Well here I am, left it overnight for charge and it's been looping for 10 hours. I tried going back into the fast boot menu, the first time I got into it this morning I selected recovery in hope to reset it, however the screen said no command with the android and the exclamation point. The second time I got into the menu I tried 'Factory' and it just rebooted and back into the cycle.
At one point I did get into my phone however shortly after that guess what happened, it turned off and rebooted. And back into the vicious cycle.
I am led to believe it's the power button that's causing the problem ( correct me if I am wrong ) as when I did manage to get I to the phone I did try pressing the power button to investigate this and on some occasions in did lock the phone but in several others it displayed the power off popup and then turned off shortly after indicating that I was holding the button down which I definitely wasn't doing.
So where would I go from this? Do I call Motorola, try flashing a stock ROM ( it's completely stock ATM , I don't know how to do this so if I have to do this can you please explain briefly ) or try going back into the fast boot and go into recovery and try and get rid of no command ( if I can, and how ? ).
Please any help would be very appreciated!
Thanks in advance.
PS you don't think it's the back cover that's doing it because it took that off last night '

Since your phone is completely stock, don't start tempering with it now. Just return the phone. But you have to act quick, warranty is about to expire.

Hi, I had a look online and came across a forum post saying it was a jammed or sticky power button and the poster stated to hit the power button side of the phone on a desk a couple times and it will go back to normal. I'm glad to say it did work after I hit it a couple times, as fast as ever now due to the reset!
I was wondering if I call Motorola would they give me a free new moto g out of it, as I see it as an opportunity to do so, or will they just prompt me to send it so they can repair it under warranty? Is it worth calling ?

Nasty weird Loop

Hello forum,
I try not to post on forum for help unless I run out of options. I used to encounter loops before and managed to fix them but this one is really weird. So a bit of background : I was running stock ROM + TWRP recovery and everything seemed normal till one day when I encountered my first loop after opening up newly installed app ( although I don't think it relevant to this case ). But anyway, when I opened it, phone restarted itself immediately and kept doing it (didn't get pass the logo) for around 5 minutes when finally booted into the OS. After that everything seemed fine for...about a month when the same loops started to happen more and more often. They usually happen when phone has it screen turned off and I press power button to wake it up, it then gives me 3 seconds as If I would hold the power button and volume down button prompting me that it's about to restart itself. So I thought, that there has to be some junk apps that are fighting with each other causing these loops and I went for the recovery. But (stupid me) instead of wiping only the apps I got rid of the whole ROM with recovery ( ). So this time I flashed a custom ROM (ViperOne+9.0.0-fix) using ADB (adb push etc etc) and TWRP thinking that maybe the previous ROM was the issue. (I forgot to mention that even when there was no OS on the phone it was still looping.) After a while when the loops stopped, I got into the recovery and flashed ViperOne with no problems at all. Phone booted itself into the OS, everything seemed normal to the point where I left it for couple of minutes, pressed power button and it went into to eternal loop where it only stopped when the battery was drained. It was literally loopin the whole night (couldn't sleep). Now when I connect it to charge it doesn't go into charging but goes straight into the loop. I can get as far as the bootloader and selecting to go to recovery and after I press power button to select it, it goes into the loop. NOW..this might sound like there is a hardware issue (the power button) but I highly doubt it. Ill appreciate any kind of solutions. :silly: Thanks in advance.
