But you always have to pay to unlock a Treo?? I mean, it's made by HTC and has WM Pro...right? So why can't someone figure out how to unlock it like you can with the Wizard, 8525, etc??
????
Man, you need help!
Could you express yourself a little better?
How so? I think it's rather straight forward. I've yet to find a free unlock method for the Treo 750, whereas with other HTC phones (the MDA specifically) there is a free unlock method. Why is that?
Was that expressed better?
How about this..
Free unlocky Treo 750 no worky. Free unlocky other phone worky. Gabba gabba diff dorf.
Excellent

Excellent answer dma1965! lol
Perhaps someone with a reading comprehension higher than 5th grader can explain. Is it a lack of development interest, or something that's hardware/software related? Since there are companies that will charge to unlock the 750, it's evidently doable, so why has no one bothered to hack a free unlock. Or perhaps 750 users aren't as resourceful as Wizard/Hermes users?
I blame global warming. It seems to be the root of many other problems worldwide, so why not? Thoughts?
Once again, fantastic!

Hi Charles -
I'm assuming you mean SIM unlocking...It has to do with the smaller installed based of Treos compared to other HTC devices.
The primary contributors to homebrew unlockers and ROM cooking have devices other than the Treo, and it's rare for them to take the time to dev for devices they don't own.
That said, if there's a large enough group of folks who need a solution, developers with the know-how can be engaged, and many of them will throw some time at it. There's a good chance a modified bootloader for the 750 will be released soon (which will allow for cooked ROMs), however SIM unlocking isn't part of the endeavor.
Hope that answers your question. If not, post up in here. Generally it's a very friendly and generous forum.
PS. for reference, the number of folks here on xda-dev who can dig into ARM assembly deep enough to create a SIM unlocker can be counted on one hand, and they tend to own HTC devices. =)
Thank you!
I figured as much, but wanted to confirm that was the reason. I've had a 650 for 2 years now, so given my interaction with other users, I figured someone would have cooked something up by now. I thought the consumer base was big enough to merit it. Oh well.
Again, thanks for actually taking the time to reply instead of being a douchewank.
The AT&T Tilt did not recievve a ROM update today. This means no accelerated graphics for us and no WM 6.1. Thank you HTC and AT&T you have all been a big help.

Old news ! Not nice to start a " new " thread for something we had not expected anyway.
Yeah, I know its old news. But even so, a large amount of people do not know this, so its still worth posting.
Do you realize what board you're on? Don't generalize, you have been left behind, not me. I've been running WM6.1 on my Tilt since the winter when it first leaked and have been running the lasted build since Monday.

No, I have browsed through some threads and it seemed that a decent amount of people had not realized that only the HTC-Branded devices had recieved the update.
People who read stuff already knew for like a month that the update would probably be only for HTC branded devices, I guess you don't.
Anyways, it doesn't mean there won't be official updates for you, just that your company, whichever it is, will have to customize things first before releasing a rom, especially adding all their bloatware.
Oh, and about accelerated graphics, please, noone got them, it's not that you're a special target.
I know that there were some "fixes" but no drivers, and it has been said that ATT users will get it, just when they get ready to release it after adding all their crap.

I am here to help , what was the question ? I just heard a rant that the mods have said ( continually ) is not appropriate for these forums. If you read the official announcement from HTC when they announced the TYtN upgrade, they said that they had no plans to release an upgrade fer the Tilt in the near future. Why is this rant important to this forum?
What are you talking about denco? This is not even a rant, it is a statement. I did not mean for it to be a rant and I did not mean for people to mistake it as one. I merely meant to inform people that only the branded HTC devices got the update. It appeared as though alot of people had not realized this, or, at least enough for me to post. I can even show you some quotes if you need me too.
Denco, please look up the definition of 'rant'.
htc rom
Just talked to HTC. There is no 6.1 rom from them for the HTC phones (mine is the TYTN II) available anywhere on the globe.

I am not trying to entice the argument here, but i will add couple of things:
a) Most of the "regular" members here at xda already know that the tilt or any other branded version of the tytnII will not be getting the updates. (emphasis on regular).
b) none of the xda members really care about official updates as we have very gifted and talented chefs here that can port roms for us (and we are truly greatful for that) and seeing that the only diffrence between the TytnII and tilt is the front camera that shouldn't be a big deal.
c) drivers (which there aren't none) can also be ported. There are chefs already working on porting the diamond drivers over to tilt which runs vga.
Having said that i would like to thank you for the info ... but unfortunately its old news and no one likes repeatedly hearing old news.

I very nearly downloaded this one by mistake. I registered with htc but my phone S/N is not a real HTC device and was still logged in, but I managed to (mistakenly) download the file from that link without much issue.
That help?
That's still only 6.0..

I don't know who you spoke with but they were wrong; I just ran the HTC RUU (Rom Upgrade Utility) from the HTC e-club web site and the splash screen clearly states Windows Mobile 6.1. I have an HTC TYTN II and it works great.

LOL, nice call on NASIOC...as well as EvoM
The thing that puzzles me about this is the way the AT&T Tilt gets singled out as if it's special - in reality it's just one dozens of rebranded Kaisers around the globe, none of which have had an official update. I have a "Vodafone V1615", am I whining about where to download a Vodafone update for my Vodafone V1615? No, of course not, with the help of this forum it's been running the original HTC rom since October, and upgraded to the HTC 6.1 update a couple of days ago (before it was released by HTC in fact). So what's the problem?
The irony is the AT&T Tilt is (I believe) the only variant to have it's own section of the HTC website, and to actually have already had a rom upgrade back in February, albeit 6.0 only. Where are all the complaints about that from owners of the V1615, or the T-Mobile Vario 3, or the Orange Tytn II, or O2 XDA Stellar, or the "3" Tytn II, etc etc..?
Ho,
I am reading and getting more intrigued re flashing my TyTnII with a suitable ROM, after my holidy in July of couse as I really need it for that.
But can someone explain how a cooked ROM is able to out perform a stock one?
I dont get it? Take GPS for example. I read that it is the radio driver tha deals with this?
So how come a huge organisation like HTC puts a radio on the device and then someone off their own back is able to do something with the driver to make it more effiecient?
Or am I totally discombobulated and talking gaa gaa?

Well for one the software on Cooked ROMs is different. All the "Bloatware" is removed and some useful applications are cooked in.
As for radios there are many variaties (some ported from other devices) that perform better on different networks and different locations.
The radios arn't made by chefs, there just taken from different ROM's. I.e. some from the newest ATT Tilt, some from the Vodafone 6.1 ROM etc. etc.

HTC is a company with primary objective: making money
if you were HTC's owner, and assuming you want more and more money, would you release a product that is so perfect that nobody will never consider buying your next updated newer products? on the other hand, to attract customers to your current product you need to have amazing specifications listed in your marketing brochures (i.e. hardware features) which unfortunately can ONLY work with better "ingridients" of ROM (did somebody mention cooked ROMs ?)
ps: btw how old are you?

Further to this, HTC "forgot" the drivers for the hardware graphics acceleration for the MSM chipset. There not all that good.
Dave (BTW if you want my age you'll have to find it )
couple things you can do. You can flash a radio and you can flash a cooked rom. Different radios can give you different reception, and even faster GPS lock. You will have to experiment on which one works best, as long as the radio is compatible with the rom. A cooked rom has a lot of programs stripped out from OEM which makes the rom a lot faster than the OEM.
Excellent chaps, I am more inclined to have a go!
Mmm how old am I?
Well let's see beleive it or not I am a programmer for a large organisation but know jack about all this stuff in the same way I know jack about web creation or networks. But I do know about programming database applications and in my time have written a few nice graphics programs.
Now here's the thing....can you guess my age?
Have worked here for 25 years and worked my way up the ranks, been married for 22 years and have a 21 year old son.......
BTW why do you want to know how old I am?

How do cooked roms differ?
Well, to be honest, it's more about "usability / feel / look " than any other thing.
Original/Official roms are generally having an appalling feel and look. For example, take my network provider (Orange in UK). I had read a lot about TyTN_II (aka Tilt/Kaiser...etc.) before getting my own from Orange. The moment I unpacked the device and turned it on , I was completely disappointed. Orange engineers spend a lot of time "customizing" (i.e. ruining) the feel and look of the device so that it looks more Orange-ish.
Their fossil tech people bag their regular salary every month and are light years behind the current time. They have no desire/motivation to be innovative (that's why they do not realse a software update even every two years).
I received my SPVM3100 (aka TyTN) from Orange almost 3 years ago. Two and a half years later, when I received TyTN_II , I was shocked to see that they had loaded exactly the same bloatware and disgusting theme they had used on older HTC devices years ago.
xda rom developers are up-to-date; they are brilliant individuals who develop software out of their personal passion and love of technology. They know what is exactly going on in PDA community at this very moment. They listen to users' experiences in real life every day and they strive to make things look better, more practical and faster.
With an original/official rom you're stuck with what the HTC (or Orange, AT&T, Vodafone ...) developers put in your device ages ago. With cooked roms (depending on your actual use of the device) you have a variety of options to choose from.
And most important of all, you'll join the forum, get addicted to it, learn loads of new tweaks and work-arounds, and will see surprising new customized software almost every week.
Believe me, stay tuned in here and soon you'll notice that not only you're holding a completely different device in your hand, but also YOU will be a completely new user of the device ; a user more in command of the HTC you're carrying around
Welcome

I bought my TyTnII for £434 unlocked.
It has an Ornage sim card plus all the stuff I have loaed myself:
SBP Pocket Plus, Weather, Time etc and loads of German learning programs, speech and the like.
When I first came to this site I was put off as I did not fully grasp what it was all about, but that's me all over....should read the manual first
I really like the idea of flashing and getting rid of the bloatware as you call it and see how my device works afterwards.
But as I paid £434 for it if I brick it my wife will use said brick to remove my ability to father any heirs!!!!!
Yoinks!

Well, if you do have an issue, "Brick", there are a few people around that can revive you. If ever in need search around, there's a guy that has revived a plethora of dead kaisers, but I can't remember his name at the moment.
Anyway, as this really is not development related, I'm gonna move it to the general section.
Welcome to XDA.

First I'd like to mention that I am grateful for all the developers on XDA working on these phones. I'm no programmer but I know plenty who are in all fields so I can appreciate what you are all doing.
I just wanted to create this thread to see how close we are to getting our hands on the HardSPL for Rhodium and any updates on development.
I've had my Touch Pro 2 for about a week and half now and already bored with it. The phone itself is great, but Windows Mobile 6.1 seriously sucks.
I really want to start using Windows Mobile 6.5, which brings me to why I created this post.
If anyone can shed some light on this I'd appreciate it.

Olipro and cmonex are still searching for mobile devices with hynix memory to test some stuff.
In short, don't expect anything soon and have patience
what
how do we know if it has that memory so others can help look.
just asked permission to Olipro if it was ok if I wrote a tutorial regarding this...
Uhm...I'll open a new thread with step-by-step instructions on how to help them out
Hope it will help them. Gimme about an hour to write a detailed tutorial.
*EDIT* Tutorial is up: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4035499#post4035499
hmm this thread will be good for the usual "hardspl waititing posts".. when release comes, we (olinex) will just create the real hspl thread, so mods will not have to clean up for release (like for topaz they had to).
as to why this flash type checking is so important: on topaz the hynix ones really just got lucky by not getting their mfg partition corrupt. (no one got it corrupt but as i said that was luck) i want to avoid any such problems on rhodium.

Does this mean there is a feasible solution for Samsung based units ?
I am surprised that it makes a difference based on the fact HTC wont have made a separate spl for hynix based units. and rom upgrades will contain the same info...
can hard spl for samsungs be realeased with a link to the tutorial on how to ensure you have samsung?
darides tutorial suggests most people seem to have samsung anyway.
infact has ther been a hynix unit seen in the wild?

Perhaps Olinex can make a version for samsung that checks on the sspl that the memory is samsung or not. to avoid bricks or other problems.
I have not seen or know anyone with hynix memory on their tp2 after checking about 5 different units from my friends and family they are all samsung. My vodafone one is samsung too.
it's great news for me
is it a problem if everybody have the samsung chipset ?

Hi Guys,
I can't put into words how much I respect and revere the information posted on your web-site and I apologise for asking the million dollar question. But I need to know.
Can we please have an ETA / timeline for the release of the HardSPL for our HTC Rhodium.
I hate my Vodafone UK branded HTC Touch Pro 2. It is red and so am I with anger. Joking aside I love HTC standard ROM's. The last one I put on my HTC Touch Pro was amazing.
Please, keep up the work....

I can totally understand people begging for this. I nervously waiting for it to, but not to install custom ROMs. I'm waiting for it to get blackberry connect running. To achieve that I need to manipulate the device ID in the ROM itself, to fool RIM, let them think it's running on a proper device. But to flash this manipulated ROM I need HSPL (or does someone know a way to manipulate the device ID (HTC-Rhodium) in another way?).
However, asking and begging does not help or make stuff easier or getting it done faster. We all need to be brave and patient and wait a bit and let olipro and cmonex get this stuff done.

Sorry to go a bit OT here but I am interested in your info about Blackberry Connect. I have just come to the TP2 from a Storm and one thing that is lagging behind with the TP2 IMO is the push email, would the 'updated' ROM you are proposing allow me to use the pushmail service from BB ?

Considering HTC have released a developers edition of the HTC One ... what do you think?
The phone still ships locked down. The developers edition of the device is useless to all of us on Sprint in the US as well.
The bootloader is already unlockable so I doubt there'll be a problem in terms of development.
