Was reading reddit and people said that HTC turned their back on the dev community. I remember something about htc not releasing codes for unlocking the bootloader or something like that. So is that locked down philosophy gone with the HTC one or will the phone be extremely hard to develop for?

Considering HTC have released a developers edition of the HTC One ... what do you think?
The phone still ships locked down. The developers edition of the device is useless to all of us on Sprint in the US as well.
The bootloader is already unlockable so I doubt there'll be a problem in terms of development.

I don't thinks so. This statment even more gives power to our voices. Look at Google and see a lot of big tech forums like "androidpolice" refer to.
Well they had better, i dont want to be moving to samsung, HOWEVER, push comes to shove and no root for my currently s-on incredible s? it will be done :/
I think it is time to let companies know the power of the pro-user. I am constantly recommending people against buying an HTC. They trust me for all their review. On every forum, we must absolutely not recommend anyone an HTC. All of it can be done without lying.
Example:
n00b question: "hey, should I buy the HTC sensation?"
Reply: "No. The bootloader is locked. You'll only be able to run what HTC wants you to run. You either buy a Samsung, or simply get an iPhone."
Yes, the opinion is slightly biased, and hides some information (like the user might never need root). However, as someone who has the privilege of recommending devices to others - How much I disclose, and how neutral I should be, is not covered by the any covenant. So.. screw you HTC. Everyday, I'll try and persuade, at least, one person to not buy an HTC - till you unlock!

Actually, it'll just be undoing the worst thing they've done in a long time.
I wrote a two page letter to HTC today one part with personal data and why the S-ON device is not good for me and the other part from the example letter that is posted to the first post blog.
I send it via e-mail directly to some addresses and also via the HTC support..
and here's the reply..
Thank you for contacting us,
We cannot comment on whether or not HTC has blocked any customer from rooting or hacking their phone. Rooting the phone may open the phone up to virus attacks and other unsecure activities, as well as introduce unintended functionality, and as such is very difficult for us to support.
You are a valued HTC customer, thank you so much for your feedback, we will be communicating them to the department in charge, please note that we are glad to offer assistance whenever needed, if you have any further inquiries kindly don't hesitate to contact us.

How typical..
It goes without saying that there are benefits to making it difficult to root your phone. A prime example is that once you root your phone. All of your account passwords are unencrypted.
That said, perhaps if the phones were easier to root people would put resources into making sure they're re-encrypted with a good ROM.
But ultimately every user deserves freedom of choice and if rooting my phone is the best/simplest/easiest way for me to uninstall bloatware/configure it as per I need it, then its clearly the best option. Freedom is the key here. Every single user should have a choice.
Hi; Vivid fans
I am looking at buying a new phone i am currently using my Samsung Infuse.
I have have been reading your forum for a couple of days no and i have a couple of questions. I am leaning towards the Vivid
Now that the phone can be unlocked can the Raider Roms be used on the AT&T phones?
Do you think now that the phone can be unlocked will there be more Devs,Roms and just over all action in the Forum?
I like my Infuse but I have all ways been a fan of HTC and would like to come back over.
Thank You,

Hi, shogunmark
Thank you for reply and asking about future activate wasn't really a literal question i just thought I would ask the members who have been for awhile if there has been an increase. and thank you again

Unlock just happened, so its hard to tell. But before unlock there were a few devs saying they would make ROMs once it got unlocked.

I for one have been waiting for this to happen. I knew it was a matter of time, but the real issue was with how long. I can finally retire my N1 and may just run over to the AT&T store to pick one up tonight.
There was alot of angst going on here on these forums over the lack of a proper root, but now with hboot now being open it's become a viable platform again.
Once I have one in hand, may end up posting my N1 up for sale on the forums to keep the old but still free Android flagship flying.
You should also take into consideration that this is a Sense-based phone so you're bound to have many potential devs looking for a new platform to bring their roms from other devices to the first ATT LTE HTC phone. I mean Desire HD has a ton of devs that could really take off with the Holiday/Raider/Vivid.

I think and also hope you are right.
It would be good to see more join in on this forum.
Hello, I was deciding between the sensation 4g and the samsung galaxy s2 and stumbled upon this phone, and find it super intriguing and I'm now leaning more towards this phone the Vivid. but was just wondering why the lack of development. is it because it's new and devs haven't had time, or hardware limitations or some other factors. would like to pick up this phone, but would love to see more choices in terms of roms.
thanks. was just curious.
It's because some people in this forum no nothing of respect or gratitude.
Locked Bootloader for many months. Only method is via HTC dev site.
No S-OFF options as of yet
As of recently the few Devs that we have had, have been disrespected and chased off. This is something we are obviously trying to change
Drew
This phone is a very capable phone, no real hardware limitations. The stock rom leave a lot to be desired and IMO really holds the phone back. As for the lack of development, we only had a handful of devs, and most of them have left due to hurt feelings. I wont go into the details, just skim through some of the closed threads in the general and dev sections. If you get a vivid and want to flash a custom rom, our devs are still out there, you just have to look outside of xda.

it's kind of like the amaze then right? where it doesn't have any s-off option. i guess the locked bootloader held it back a bit.
anyway, thanks guys for the explanation. yeah i found pirateghost's site and downloaded his rom.
and yeah, read some of the posts regarding devs leaving. hopefully those devs come back and also some more come onboard.
They are not coming back. Wild Child runs his own site and PirateGhost moved on to another website. That way they can control the kind of people that can post.

I'm quite interested in buying this phone since its the one of the "new" phones that appeal to me most. However, I am a little concerned about the locked bootloader. Coming from a HTC Desire I'm very spoiled with different roms and the way they extend the life of a device beyond the manufacturers updates.
I've been reading in these forums but got no real clue whether or not the community is near breaching it or not. And what is LG's stand? I don't really understand why they would release the device with a locked bootloader.
they have no intentions of doing so
but feel free to write an angry email to them if you're willing to contribute

Hello there, I have the LG Optimus 4X P880.
I too feel very sad that there is no support for custom roms yet, due to the locked bootloader.
However, In my personal opinion, this phone has a very good price to performance ratio.
There has been some effort in trying to unlock the bootloader by trying to mod the kernel, to unlock the bootloader. (Somewhat like that)
If you like a Cheap Quad Core phone with a extra power saving core, go for it. But the custom roms aren't coming any time soon I think.
Besides trying to unlock the bootloader, some people have been trying their best to convince LG to unlock the bootloader through a petition that you can find throughout this forum. Many of them will link to LG's facebook page where P880 users are spamming the wall with unlocking requests.
If you have any questions regarding P880 Modding, send me a PM.
Idk about everyone else but this made me kind of excited lol

This may only be for the HTC One Dev edition, which is what the question was about, but since the dev edition is just an unlocked HTC One, it seems likely the plan will be the same for all One devices in the U.S.

^This. I will not be buying HTC or CDMA phones again. At least with GSM, you can use international updates.
Forget it im going back to my damn G1
Jason Mackenzie is answering A LOT of questions on twitter today... Allegedly he wants 4.3 on the dev edition by the end of September if not earlier.
Guys, there are already like 20 threads on the update. Is a new one for each comment, story, or reference to it really necessary?
