Does anyone know if there is a leak of the new MotoBlur UI or rom? or if it's even possible to port to the G1? ... I know it was just annouced but there isn't a section for it and i wouldn't mind having some of the widgets and or features that have already been shown. Does anyone have any additional info on this besides what's already been released my motorola today?

Well... it was JUST announced, so... we will have to wait.

i figured it would work in either section but it is development based b/c it is a new UI that hasn't been seen ... I was more or less tryin to spark interest into this.
Just in case someone didn't know, here some info http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/10/live-from-motorolas-android-announcement-at-mobilize-09/
Looks awesome, but i think the device only has the qualcomm ~550MHz cpu..
Waiting for the Motorola Sholes with Snapdragon, whoooo
As long as it runs on the Qualcomm architecture that the Dream/Magic/Hero etc. run on, there's no reason why it could not be ported to the Dream. Once it comes out, that is.
this will probably take months before its leaked and weeks before its usable

Hero STILL doesn't have bluetooth, based on past results, it's very very hard to port this stuff over in a usable manner. The devs are the best, but if we still don't have Hero working, what are the odds of us getting this one anytime soon?

I'd say there's a high chance of getting a full working version of "MOTOBLUR" on the G1 before a working version of Sense UI.
Of course nobody can comment before the phone/rom is released but at first glance it doesn't look like the core of android has been edited much, if at all. It's simply the stock android home screen with 2 extra shortcuts at the bottom and some new widgets.
Even the calendar app has remained the same.

go to this page and click on the MotoBlur Demo link on the right hand side to get
a full demo of the UI.
I like the fact that your "inbox" contains messages/gmails/fbook messages all in one list.
And it has the same screen res and 528mhz processor as the g1 so it shouldn't be too much work to get it on there. This is way more exciting than hero, cuz the hero roms are so slow

agreed i love the universal inbox as well as the Happenings screen/widget. even if that was all we got, i would be happy lol
what people need to realize is that its not about what official rom we want.. its what from each rom we want.. cause with the way devs keep taking things from all the new roms and putting into current ones.. all we need is to take the best from each and make one bomb rom..lol

devs havent got bluetooth to work cuz the hero source code is closed source. if motorola keeps the source code for the blur UI open, then devs have
all around access to not only port the build but framework, bluetooth, led's,etc.
i hope we get a system dump soon this UI looks real good.. i dont like all the colors but im sure manups work'll take care of all that

cyan might be getting a system dump sometime very soon.
Don't play with my emotions jc....lol. I'm hoping we can get this ported because all I really want from Hero is the HTC Music (got it) and the integrated social apps. This would be gold and for cyan to work his magic...
so cool

For those who have upgraded to 2.2, how do you feel about it? Has the speed noticeably improved? More stability? More better?!
Just curious as to what those of us with non-N1 phones have to look forward to as this version gets released for other handsets.
I am also wondering if this: "Apps can now send information to the Google server and have it send the info to the phone, wake it up and even load up whatever info they want" means that there will FINALLY be some decent mail clients with PUSH. That's the one thing which keeps me thinking about my old BB is the instant e-mail...
Thanks!
Honestly, the new stuff that they added in make 2.2 a great step up... enabling JIT is HUGE and I dont think people realize how big this is...
The whole foundation and innards of the Android OS have been upgraded and become more efficient which is great for all phones but there is a ton of lacking to the nexus one rom itself which is why many people are going back to their custom 2.1 roms...
personally, something as simple as having black text overlay a white background in the messaging app is EXTREMELY annoying let alone showing the persons picture next to each message is an incredible waste of space... same gripes go for trackball colors, trackball wake, number overlay on the battery icon (right now im using the battery indicator app but its pretty janky if you ask me), launchers not working right, themes not working yet, native 360 home screen rotation (which they REALLY should have put in)... the list goes on really...
however, i am sticking it out on froyo to get a feel for the new radio, battery life changes (if any, mine seems to have tanked), use more flash, ect... i wanna get used to the new features because when CM6 drops its going to be peace and harmony again
on a side note, my Bloo 1.5 beta app wigs out on me ALOT more than it did in 2.1 which is annoying as well since i love the app!

Push email is up to the email provider. If MS or Yahoo wanted to they would have done an email app with push already.
JCopernicus, when I had a Palm Pre, any POP mail account I set up on that thing got "pushed" instantly, just like a Blackberry. Only it was actually faster than a Blackberrry - all emails showed up in about 1 second after being sent!
I don't know if it was technically "push" or what, but instant e-mail without polling a server is what I am talking about.
That was build into the Pre's WebOS...(there was no need to add clients or such.) With the Pre: Just use the mail app, input your email and password, and it's all set up. Worked very well. I am hoping for this on Android ASAP!
thanks.
JHaste, I know there is the new JIT in there - but does it actually FEEL much faster in normal use ;-)

That's because palm worked with all those email providers to include push on palm devices.
I had no "provider", I have my own web site and POP off of that (server run by Bluehost), and it was instant email...
Do you mean they worked with every web site server company to implement push (there are thousands)? And Blackberry works with all of these companies individually too? (Anyway, if little ond Palm can do it, then Google should be able to figure it out ;-))
What ever they are doing I hope Google does the same. Getting email only every 15 or 30 minutes is a P.I.T.A., and the polling servers kills the battery on Android devices. Try setting it to every 5 minutes and your phone will not last half a day in my experience. Especially if you have several email accounts set up.
the browser is much much faster compared to before. i spend a lot of time browsing on my phone and every single site renders about twice as fast compared to before. other than the browser though, i have not used a single intensive application :/
For me froyo is fast in every way. I have problems with some 3rd party apps that need to be updated for froyo, but besides that, everything is great. I already updated 3 apps and waiting the update for 2 more. In the coming weeks we will see the apps being updated and the market access to paid apps will be there.
Can't imagine there will be consensus on Froyo, until sometime after it is officially released to the general population by Google. Sometime after OTA updates are widely occurring, when the broader community will have access to a genuinely official FROYO intended for and pushed to them by Google.
To expect consensus when we do not even know if it is THE official release to market, is jumping the gun. Judging by all the comments and issues around this forum....I am dearly hoping what the early adopters have, is NOT the official release.
In the mean time you will get plenty of Froyo Opinions, but little consensus I'd reckon.
I think once Cyanyogenmod comes out, we will have the best of both worlds, and my gripes will be eased.

hate to burst your bubble of hope but this is the release that we were waiting for... it has the framework for flash to run, JIT is enabled, ect, ect... and it obviously has all of the drivers meant for the N1 since our phones are running it fine...
I dont know why everyone was expecting a 1.6 to 2.0 leap... this is an incremental leap just like 2.0 to 2.1, it has some nice new features and cleaned up a few things but it is not ground breaking... like i said before it really just made the whole android os more efficient and snappier with JIT enabled and yes I can tell a difference on just about any app
this has everything google said it was going to have... not its up to our lovely devs to make it shine! and there might be other little goodies that the devs can now do that they couldnt on 2.1...
after all the hype surrounding this new release, it's not all that great. Don't get me wrong, I like some of the added features but there are people talking about how much faster it is ... thinking those people were coming from a junked up flash anyways. Anytime you wipe and reinstall everything always seems a little nicer.
Overall, I think it's nice but definitely not worth all the hype. Still on the fence about doing cyan or another rom ... they seem to have their share of issues as well and at present I am just fine with a rooted stock ROM. Shame no one has taken the time to come up with MetaMorphs for the stock ROMs.

With Adobe Flash installed browsing the web isn't fun anymore. It's painfully slow..also when using some multitouch gestures. In daily use (calendar, mail, todo's and web) I seriously can't tell which one is faster....2.2 or the latest CM. For me Froyo is a bit of a disappointment. After setting it up with all the programs I use on a daily basis there is very little difference (looks and speed) with prior versions. Adobe Flash was the first program I installed after flashing Froyo..and it was the first program I uninstalled after 15 minutes of use. Finally, I almost can't imagine this is a final release...too many little bugs.

Your a little off on this. I did not whipe when I flashed 2.2. I used motoco rom and there is a significant speed increase. Not just opening apps, but boot up time as well. I am missing a few fetures from CM6.0.7-T2 but I am happy to wait for them. While I wait for trackball wake and Notification, Ill entertain my time with some hulu lol.
Flash does slow down browsing, but it's better to have the option than...nothing, so for now, I set it as "On Demand" and it's more that I can ask for.
Nobody is mentioning:
- Active/Sync support with, finally exchange push without compromises, PIN/Remote wipe, GAL, Calendar.. no need for third party mail apps
- Office 2007 files now open with quickoffice
- Bluetooth Dial from headset
When the subtle MODS (full screen browser, music widget/controls, trackball..) make it into CMXX it will be great, but for now, I will stick with 2.2

My mistake, I just looked around some more. Palm os uses imap idle to push email. If your server supports it it works good.
On the android side you can use K-9 mail for the same function. Default email client doesn't (other than gmail).
Froyo is fine for me in the state it is. I still think it's just a pre-release just like a teaser or something. Either way we all know that once the source code it released and the devs get cracking on some roms then this will be forgotten.
Everyone has an opinion and it seems nobody will ever be happy with anything that is put out for our device. Honestly I dont think alot of us were supposed to have froyo yet, but paul and cy hooked us up and there is still complaints. Then when everyone officially gets froyo there will be complaints about that etc.
I'm not trying to turn this into an arguement or anything but I say the consensus should be Froyo is a nice little upgrade from 2.1. Heck i sold my x10 for the nexus one and they're still trying to root 1.6 on their devices. Other devices are still waiting for an upgrade to 2.1 and we got 2.2 even before the all so called powerful EVO? damn i'm more than happy about that!
People get exited and inquisitive when they see my Nexus One, and those that know about android go bananas when they see 2.2 on it! I love it ...ok bye now have a nice day lol

one thing I'm def looking forward to is the alleged UI refresh...bring it on.
i was just curious if the hero was getting the 2.2 update? doesnt look like much of a difference but im still curious
It is highly unlikely that we will see an official release of 2.2, but the devs here on this forum will try to work on it. darchstar has already stated that when the 2.2 source is released and implemented into Cyanogen mod, he will port it over.
While it might seem that different, there are a lot of major changes, especially in speeed. The Market has an autoupdate feature in 2.2, Apps2SD is built in (but, I assume, it's not based on our same Apps2SD. Just the same function), and JIT is fully functioning and working as it should. The Nexus One running 2.2 runs almost 8 times faster than it does with 2.1, or so I've been told.
lol, let the 2.2 threads begin....
We barely got 2.1.
Im sure after the devs get froyo working, sprint will steal it, mod it slightly, leak it back out to the devs for them to tweak, and us to test, then sprint will release it officially about 6 months later, blaming htc for the hold up and it will still have tons of problems. Then the devs will figure out how to root it and sprint/htc will put out a update almost the next day to patch the root exploit.
Anyone else have a idea?

(Hello Chris, Thank you for taking the time to contact HTC America Technical Support about your device. Before releasing a ROM update we have to be sure that the software is going to work properly on your hardware and on your carrier’s network. This testing does take some time but will result in an update that is optimized to work on your device and on your carrier’s network. While we want to release software as soon as we can we will only do so once the software has passed our quality standards. At this time we do not have any information about an update for your device. When the update is released it will be announced on HTC.com.)

Had a question for those who used to own Palm pres and rooted them.
As of now how would you compare the Palm Pre (rooted of course) to that of a rooted Hero (say mine, AOSP 2.3.3)
Does the palm offer anything better than the hero does. Just wondering because a guy on C-list is selling his palm for cheap and was wondering if it would be worth the time to maybe switch up phones.
If i'm in the wrong thread sorry, if this offends people because its not directly a Android HeroC question, sorry again. Just wanted to ask
i have no first hand knowledge..but better? perhaps the cpu and the ability to use a touchstone..and a slide out portrait keyboard, which i do know a lot of people that liked that design.
what's not better? probably development for webOS as compared to Android...i'd imagine you can still find more WinMo 6.5 apps than you can webOS, as I never see anyone with Pres or Pixis. Everyone owns Android phones and iphones.
just my $.02
The palm is way smoother and faster, once you overclock it. I'm running screenstate 500/800 and its great. Battery life is pretty good too. Beyond that, I prefer android. There are way more and better apps. Also, tethering on the pre is harder to achieve and is a much slower connection, fwiw. Could be because I haven't figured out how to update radio/profile/prl on the pre.

Thanks for the response. Reason i'm asking is i'd just like a change of phone for now and i'd rather not do a true upgrade, but instead maybe move to a phone that was what i was trying to decide on when i first got my upgrade last year.

Be careful though, activating an "old" phone is considered an "upgrade" to Sprint, so they will charge you the new $10 premium data charge that comes with activating a smartphone.

don't that just suck! did it to me when switching to a used hero from a hero!
man i wish we wouldve got that webos port to work awhile back until sandix or whatever that douchebags name was ruined it for everybody, that wouldve have been the coolest thing ever.
The Hero is a great phone ONCE it is rooted. If you don't have the Hero rooted it's basically a pile of crap. I'd pick the Hero(rooted) over a palm pre(rooted) any day.
And with AOSP developing an incredible rom for the Hero, it's a nobrainer.
Nice input guys
Yeah for clarification I do have a rooted hero (aosp 2.3.3) its just i'd like something thats more integrated. I liked, when looking at the pre before, how it integrated all my contacts honestly a lot better. I like having my google account synced to everything, but I've had times where switching roms and stuff i lose important contacts and it sucks.
Just trying to find a different scenery i guess since sprints pretty much put hero's in the dump.
Also as a little note i hate how we're so limited with our phones. Can't play really any games, barely any ROMs that I'd like to try but cant because of our hardware, etc...
Anyways i'm rambling... Take it easy guys

You're not going to get this answer from many people, but the best, most stable firmware in terms of integration is the stock, up-to-date firmware (all OTA updates installed). There were issues when the Hero first received 2.1, but that was almost a year ago. They have released several OTA updates since then, and as far as I know they ironed out any major outstanding issues.
Sure, it's not the latest and greatest, but it's stable. And HTC Sense does have good integration features. I switch back to it from time to time, and the only thing that really disappoints me about it is not being able to download the latest versions of every app due to API differences. But all intended features work as designed, including making phone calls. And there are Sense features that still haven't made their way into other ROM images or apps.
Any new ROMS in the works besides what we have on here on the Dev Forum? Ive tried them all i like them all just asking if we have more coming?

Matt,
Are you ok? Is this the real MattCrystal? I was expecting something a little different from you considering how big of a no-no it is to ask about ETA's. I guess it's not an ETA question though, just a "is anyone going to get off of their lazy butts and create something new for free because I'm bored with all of the choices we do have". You must be taking an anger management class. Let me guess, you were finally able to flash WildHeroc.
I'm really amazed at what we do have considering this is a legacy device and most of the people creating these roms don't even have their heroes activated, they do it out of their love for the hero, technology, and the challenge. We are limited due to our arm6 processor and our low memory. But we have everything but MIUI.
Im very excited and pleased that we have any ROMS for our Hero i was just wondering if anything else is cooking. Im sure there is trust me

Yup its still me and your thoughts were correct. I didn't jump at him because its not eta related. I completely could've though since its a step sister to eta comments but I haven't seen his name here before and noobs need a little break.... No WildHeroc is still a no go. The new boot.img flash created wont even install. I have some ideas though but not enough time to type it all out, or have time to try. Kids just started school and busy work life. Plus I don't want noobs to try what I do out of curiosity and mess up their hero. I'm too experienced with mine. Trust me when I move to the 3d forums the good ole times will be back again. Nothing will be like this forum though.
Some of these ROMS are probably only good for wifi google voice voip. Thats all i can do since im in a rural area and have no service but all of Wild Hero updated roms have worked for me no problem. Except the 2.2 su binary update all the time.

But the way you said it "made it seem all these roms are good for"..... see what I mean? Dastin ported the excellent iHero from tazz and its fantastic. Him and jaybob are true heros here keeping up the development. Huge breakthrough was fine tuning the .35 kernel. Been waiting months for an update to it since s0bes departure.
I know. These roms are grt i even got close to flashing a Droid rom that hasnt even been done yet and it starting to upload but it aborted half way in between. I dont think you can really brick these phones that easy. But i am careful i just like to try different things, I appreciate what every dev is doing for us. Im just looking for something different. Plus im new at flashing since June this yr. But its like clockwork now its easy
Easy to brick too man. Especially if your this flash hungry. Just be careful
