Okay, I am very new to this rom and root and mod your phone thing and tried to do so the other night, What I actually wanted was youtube user EmoGamer's version of the Hero 2.0.1 on his G1, like really bad! Oh well, anyways after totally messing my phone up from not knowing what I was doing, I managed to install the factory state back to the phone. Android 1.0! Now to get my phone back to Donut 1.6, I need 1.5
So does anyone know where I can get 1.5? like the real cupcake update, not some bootleg or mod rom, I mean the actual Cupcake update?
Please and thanks everyone.
Bootleg rom?
Wow that makes no sense...
I recc you do some reading before jumpiing the gun, you dont want to have a paper weight for the new year...
Sometime in the next couple days you will be prompted to update your phone, this will take you to the most recent official update... just keep a wifi, or other date connection, going and it will download it on it's own.

Of 2.0?
I know 1.6 will get sent to him but he wants to have root i think.
I think he just wants to go back to stock and not mess around with it at the moment.
"Now to get my phone back to Donut 1.6, I need 1.5"
And I wish it was 2.0 and I had some insider track on it... I think we will see that officially by January 20th, don't ask why I say that date, just seems like a good one to pull out of the hat.
Thanks for the info man I really appreciate all of it.

Just got this OTA update today, was around 686Kb i think.
Anyone else got it, spotted any changes?
I had expected one recently after reading about the "one-click root" app and how a patch was already being worked on.
Do we think it was just that?
The "More Info" of the update mentioned something about including a number of small changes, dependant on location, but nothing about security patches.
It's very cold here in the "I Haven't Rooted" section.
I only did it 2 days ago - its not toooo late to join the dark side, perhaps this is a 1 click fix and the final update promised
Yea most people here have root. U should root. Its the only way ur g1 can reach its full potential. Srry for the spelling lol
Other than being able to make the notification bar black instead of white (which I really would like), there really isn't much I'd bother rooting for at this point in time... I don't have time to search through hundreds of ROMs to find one on which everything works perfectly for me, and I kinda like getting my OTA updates.
When the G1 is officially cast aside from updates and things, I'll definitely do it, but (and I know it's crazy talk to say this around here) for now I'm not really that bothered!
Unless anyone wants to convince me otherwise?
well think about it this way. all those times where you say "damn i wish tmobile would update this already" or "why didnt this come with the phone??" or "hurry up damn phone!"
...
if you root, theres a 99% chance you'll never say any of that again
least in my experience. i just rooted yesterday, and i love it!
i would like to know exactly whats fixed in this as the uk seem to get security updates 1st, possibly because we didnt have to wait aslong for cupcake.
And on the rooting point, go for cm4.0.1 recovery 1.4 there you go, they are the ones right for you
How to Root a CRC37 phone

Relax, the G1 is very difficult to brick.
Read this thread and don't do anything stupid like flashing SPL before radio...
So when 2.1 gets here other then giving all the people who have been crying for the past 4 months a reason to stop. What will happen?
1)Will I have to reinstall all the apps I have now? (I think the answer is yes but dont like the sounds of that )
2)Will it be hard for all the ROMs out there now to be updated?
3)Guessing question one is a yes, Would it be a good idea to clean out your SD card? (A lot of programs make folders on there and sometimes they never go away)
4)Will everyone start crying about how they now want Android 2.5 on the Hero?
Yes
No
Yes
Yes
use a program to back your apps up, like titanium backup or astro. That way when the update does come, you'll have the unpaid apps backed up (the paid ones are backed up to your google account)
1. Start fresh.
2. No, look at what all the devs have done without an official build.
3. Backup your pictures, videos and other important stuff then refer to 1.
4. I know theres people already asking for 3.0...
i just hope we will be able to root again right away?

if you're rooted, and running custom ROM's now, then don't bother un-rooting to get the update. Just wait, a day max, and there'll be a few custom 2.1 ROM's based off the official update.
It's not worth the risk of losing your ability to root to get the update
Id say hours before a dev makes an official custom ROM.
If it took less than 24 hours to get the Eris 2.1 crammed on the Hero I would imagine it would probably be no more than 1/2 an hour before you see an optimized rooted build up here. And with the fact that Sprint will probably roll out 2.1 in small bursts, there's a good chance most rooted users will be able to get it here before they could get it from Sprint anyways.
Thanks guys! As much as I hate starting all over i know it would be the best thing to do.
Hi, i am new here and to the Hero, i got it yesterday and out of stupidity upgraded to the official 2.1 version from sprint, and only after that realized the wonders of rooting lol, so is there a way to put 1.5 back on?
thanks

make sure to ask for one w/ 1.5 on it.. and let me know if that works for you, via pm, because I might want to get another.
I had to get a replacement phone from Sprint after I had installed the Stock 2.1, and it fried the radio. It came with 1.5, without me asking anything about it. Don't worry; they aren't installing 2.1 on the phones before they are shipping them out.
Hi there!
I finally got my N1 today. Imediately set up the SDK and started "working"...
One of the first things i tried today was installing the froyo update. Didn't get it to work.
The problem seems to be that my N1's build version is EPF30, which seem to be a "special" build for the german/european N1s.
Does anybody know when the Froyo will be available as an OTA update? I tried a manual checkin and update check so far ...
I know there IS a workaround which includes rooting and flashing an older stock rom, but I dont want to root it right now.
Thanks so far...
DerSeppel
Yeah, because searching for an answer in one of the million existing Froyo threads would have been hard.
There is no answer. It will be out when it's ready.
It will be out on 14 June to steal Apple's thunder.
In fact, I did search the forums before posting.
What I didnt quite understand was, IS Froyo already being rolled out or not?
It's apparently going through "final testing" so probably end of this week or next week.
It's being RC tested internally, not being pushed out to consumers yet.
Sounds good ... are there any experiences with the rollout duration?
How long might one have to wait to be scheduled for the OTA in the worst case?
I want to start using the C2DM service which requires 2.2 at least.
moved to q&a
i have a very strong feeling that it just might be released on the same day as the new iPhone.
google may just try and steal some of apple's thunder on that day.
No point in even attempting a release same day as the iPhone release. The news will just get buried.
Hi guys Im new to this thread and I've been reading the whole treads for like 3 days and for some reason im getting confused about the pros and cons so I just want to ask if my understanding about the froyo leak flash with odin3 is correct. If there is something else that i forgot to mention that is really important please remind me before i flash my new captivate
PRos:
1. flash 10.1 on browser
2. JIt compliler
3. no need to root the phone
4. can save apps on sd card
5. GPs more accurate
6. can still be root
Cons:
1. unlocked code from 2.1 eclair to use other sim will not work anymore
2. IMEI number will change and impossible to retrived unless you send them back to samsung?
3. no more android keyboard
4. void the warranty?
5. updating through OTA will not work anymore after reverting from froyo 2.2 leak to the stock 2.1 eclair by using odin3
6. after flashing couple of times from reverting to eclair to froyo will ban you from andriod market and the phone will state that there is no sim even if there is one inserted
7. lag issues
This is my first time to have an android phone so im totally noob and no idea yet and a little scared of making mistake. Also if i root my phone will i be able to unroot it again in case i want to return back the phone to at&t? Thank you in advance
Are your pros supposed to be compared to 2.1?
"no need to root"? There was not a need a root 2.1 either - or the same reasons existed, so i don't follow this.
The way i see it, 2.2 gives you access to 2.2 only apps in the store. Not much else. It is 2.2, yes, but there is not a lot more functionality. I do want it, but I can wait for official build.
BTW, there are built in tether apps - no longer in 2.1 JH7. That could be a pro.
Cons:
How about bugs and work arounds. It is stable, but Google groups and Exchange groups don't work. Samsung email client is broken when replying, etc. There is a pretty good list.
I will wait for the next build from Samsung, but that is me.
If your a "basic" user such I am (no exchange support needed) and just do the basic tweet/fb/browse for porn (erm?)/ play music/txt etc... I think you would be fine.
But.. if your not comfortable flashing ROM's and realize that your going to be voiding your warranty as soon as you do. Then don't do it and wait for OTA.
And I can't imagine that the OTA would be any better or feature rich then Cognition's 2.2.X beta.
Btw.... you listed
"3. no more android keyboard"
DG added it into the latest build.
CON: ATT address book doesnt work.
PRO: better battery life.
Pro: Cognition any version
Con: You won't get anything done because you're playing with your phone too much!

I have not heard of this problem before. I will do some checking on it but sounds like he is a noob that is looking into anything that can possibly go wrong. Also sounds like whoever originally posted that problem most likely had no idea what they were doing and flashed 2.2 wrong even though I do not know how that is possible. I have flashed back and forth since SRE and have done so for each Cog build to keep current. Phone works amazingly, GPS is flawless and is the fastest phone I have ever owned. Go Cognition!!

DON'T DO IT!!!! wait for the Official release, this is a leaked..aka stolen version of froyo, you will void your warrenty. If you still want to do it after what i said keep in mind that when the Official release of froyo comes out and ATT wants to do an over the air (OTA) update, the ATT server will not recognize your phones firmware any more so you won't be able to get the update of the leagle version of froyo. This leaked...or stolen version is full of glitches don't download it.
ok seriously, its not going to void your warranty if u revert back to stock using the easy 1 click restore by odin...ive sent mine back once i was running cognition 2.2 and they had no problem exchanging it. the leaked version is NOT NOT NOT NOT full of glitches, it works perfectly and i have yet to find a problem with it! so dont talk here unless u knwo what u are talking about buddy

Number 1 im not your buddy sir...number two it is glitch ridden and thats been posted all over the internet. As well as an att bulletin that was release...maybe you need to do a little more studying "buster". Check out the ATT bulletin and it will advise as well as other xda-developers not to install as this is not the final version but it is a stolen version and as with all stolen merchandise there are issues once recieved by the poor sucker who bought it. Once you down load this froyo stolen version 80% of the android market will not recognize your phone so apps that you had previously won't be available anymore. And yes as quoted by ATT this will void your warranty so download at your own risk "Pal"

I've been using 2.2 since like a couple days it was released. * touchwood* so far all I noticed is that my battery performance is better. I don't even know what "glitches" u r talking about.
Before u say some software is glitchy, please be specific atleast for a few of them. And an FYI, not having android keyboard is not a glitch.
EDIT:
I got my first Captivate right on the 2nd day of its release. I exchanged it for another in 2 weeks due to battery issues. I rooted, n then flashed back to stock and returned. No question of warranty loss if you know how to revert back to stock.

ahaha wow this is seriously entertaining! Hopefully you continue as i needed a good laugh today.
I have been on the froyo LEAK since the day after it popped up and it has been much more stable than any version of eclair EVER was. This is the whole point of xda....you can go hang out with all the newbs at androidforums or something and preach about how dangerous it is and stick with eclair.
you have no clue if it is stolen. How do you know samsung didn't release this on purpose to get feedback?? I would never listen to a word ATT says they are a joke. Its people like you that need to just keep their mouth shut you obviously have yet to flash so how can you preach about how it is 'full of glitches' haha.
oh and its really hard to odin back to stock to get the official update.
I did not know that 80% of the market is not supposed to recognize my phone any more. Somebody should let the market know. Maybe now that I know 89% of the market is not supposed to work it will now quit working. Oh no! as I am typing this 93% of the market just disappeared from my cappy!

It's a leaked rom, which means that someone decided to release this...why are so many people interested in having their phones flashed back to eclair if this leaked rom is so much better? I don't understand...If I own a ford and decide to buy a toyota and it's a much better car...why would i go back to a ford? That's moving backwards right?

id definatly buy a ford over a toyota right now. toyota is overrated and ford is moving up. really drive one before you speak.
ok froyo has market issues right now do to presumably the android id. it has many new gui features and is much faster and in my experiance better battery life. so if you cant deal with the market errors wait for an official release. that is why many are going back. that and some of us are addicted to flashing our phones every 48 hours.
