I downloaded a .m4v file (for the iPhone) from the NPR app and the video will not play.
I read a post that said to just change the file extention from .m4v, so I did that... I still can't seem to get any of the video players to play the file.
Anyone downloaded a .m4v from NPR's app and got it to play?

What is everyone using to play the video recordings they've made with their phones on their Windows machines?
The format is .mp4 and doesn't play nice on my box...
TW,
Everyone is using Google... seach for mp4 player and you'll find the answer.
However, I use VLC, which opens everything except for doors.
It seems odd that a phone that runs MS software can't play it's own recordings...?
Google, what's that?
I have the opposite problem. I can't replay video on my phone, but it plays fine on the PC.
To play stuff you need codecs. VLC doesn't need codecs. Just google codecs for your PC. I have K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (I think that's what it's called). I use WMP to play everything. It works better than VLC now. And as for the poster above, same thing except you need codecs for your phone. I suggest you download TCPMP. What file type are you trying to run?

so the phone that takes video in mp4 can't play it without another program?
cause I'm having the same problem.
I take video with my camera, can I watch the video on my phone after that?
nope. (I'll search the forums but it's just strange since WM6 was fine; I could take video and play it on my phone fine, I think, I can't remember anymore)
I find that if I rename them with a .3gp extension they play fine in quicktime and in WMP (after setting the association or using "open with"). The same files with the original .MP4 extension choke in both (different issues, but neither play them correctly).

they are already named .3gp, which may be the problem since my phone doesn't play .3gp files.
I can't change the extension to mp4 either.
not only that but i can't play them on my computer; this is crazy since my computer can play anything.
I just convert mine: http://media-convert.com/convert/index.php
works well and it's pretty quick. I usually move the video to my PC first but I bet I could upload it using Skyfire.

So I used handbrake to convert a video to an m4vfile will this work I dropped on my sd and go to play I just dont see it I can here it. What is the the procedure to view a movie on the n1?
drop it in a folder, then you can go to the gallary and find that folder and watch it.
The better way though is to download Video Player from the market. All it is an app which searches your sd card for video files and then lists the file names.

im not sure, but i think google can help you out with that
I know mp4s work and .h264 is the codec you really should be using
m4v with x264 or MPEG-4 ASP (with DX50 Fourcc, not XVID) works perfectly.
I need your help with this app, well mostly the content. So now google play offers movie purchaces but in order to play them back you need to install Google's Play Movie & TV app, basically a video player. The app works well and all but i am wondering if there is a way to play the content on the tabs stock video player. I want to take advantage of the 5.1 sound. Once you purchace the movie you are able to download it but i can not seem to find it anywhere on tab and it is not on the download folder. I used root explorer but no where to be found. I also tried launching the stock video player but it only sees the sample video that came with the tab. Looking forward to your suggestions.
Hi,
I might be wrong but doesnt that just steam the video when it tells you it is being downloaded, this could be the only way you would watch it but not find it after that in the file system.
Have you checked the players file system?
Not to promote piracy but would it not be easier to download it over torrent and watch it with your original player...

I have looked for the players file system but i can't find it either.
Tried to use torrents but they are a bit annoying to use so i would just rather pay for the movie, i dont mind really.

I've transferred some of my own movies and tv shows that are in .mp4 format on the KFHD. They don't play correctly as they keep jumping from scene to scene and everything is pixelated.
Am I using the right format? I converted my .avi to .mp4 and they aren't working =[

It shoud be Divix codec format for example. Try to use MX Video player, its free on market. It opens almost all formats that i tryed.
mx works great with software decoder, i was able to play a 1.4gb 720p mkv earlier with no issues
Although its still nightly builds only, VLC will play pretty much anything that its desktop counterpart does which means it supports many formats. You can give it a try, get the latest apk from here:
http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/android-v7-neon/
Thanks a lot Spunker, VLC is the only player that has worked with least amount of issues for me
VLC is listed as "incompatible" for a KFHD at the Playstore. Anyone got an alternate source?
Sent from my KFTT using XDA Premium HD app
Nevermind, got it at the listed url.

Renaming files just to get them to play is generally a bad idea... Your MKV probably just happened to be MPEG-4 internally and not enough extra stuff/tracks that it worked, but it's not a good practice - eventually you'll run into an MKV that isn't MPEG-4 internally and the decoder will choke. If you don't remember that you renamed the file, you might think the file is completely broken too.
IIRC Avia shows the filename, as long as it's not horribly long.
