Would it be possible to fool SEUS into thinking that an X1 is actually an X2 with old software, therefore installing the latest X2 ROM onto our device? I ask because with my old SE phone, I changed some sort of file, and it fooled SEUS into thinking it was a different phone, thereby installing a different phone's ROM onto my phone.
If we don't know how to do this, then a good starting point could be to figure out how SEUS determines if an X1 or an X2 is plugged in, maybe the device name...
No, if you managed to install the X2 ROM on your X1 that would efectively stop your X1 from working.
would you care to explain? (besides the camera, video out, accelerometer, and some minor keyboard diffs)
The X2 is manufactured by a different OEM (Mobinova) than the X1 (HTC) so there is no way to guarantee the lower level architecture is the same. Stuff like, touch screen controller, sensors, etc. could possibly be made by other companies vs. the components on the X1 heck, HTC even put the LCD into the X1 in upside down. Furthermore, the flashing method may differ. This is all speculation, the only way to be sure is to try. But I would estimate you would brick your device.
It's the same reason people had to crack a new Hard-spl for the X2, the two have different architecture. And that's just for the ROM.
the LCD is upside down? what does that mean?

If you try Android on your Xperia you will know what he is talking about. It is turned 180 degrees with some software modifications, so it seems to show right.
Cheers!

I just got my Diamond back from repairs and wanted to compare experiences:
1)
I first bought a Diamond two months ago. It came with 1.37 ROM series on it, the screen wasn't too yellowish, but touch function wasn't responsive and the GPS was a MESS!
(of course, I tried many ROMs official and unofficial, almost every Radio ROM and various Hard-SPL. None of that fixed the problems.)
I could cope with with the other flaws, but I just couldn't bear my GPS wasn't getting a fix, no matter how much sattelits were in view...
It worked at first, but soon started to display '66666' instead of the location and finally, it would never display any location again.
I tried every tips and tricks and softs, it helped giving me more and more satellits in view and apparently active, but at the end my crappy GPS could never turn the datas received into a proper location...
2)
I sent my device back to warranty (after flashing back to official ROM and SPL) and had to wait for about a month.
(the technician at first tought I was just a noob unable to set his phone properly, but after two days of attempts, he had to admit that there was something wrong with my phone and sent it to the the headquarter for replacement of motherboard and so on.
3)
The new phone I got came directly with 1.93 ROM and a little bit more yellowish screen, though, there is no spot or stain on it. So the coulour doesnt bother me.
But from the beginning I noticed the new phone was much more responsive even at the slightest touch.
From the first try, the GPS got a fix in about 1 mn time, with only 3-4 satelits in view.
I installed Hard-SPL and the latest Australian Official ROM, and though the screen seems now a little less responsive than before, the GPS is still working, fine.
I'm a VERY happy user of Diamond now, but I'm still wondering one thing:
it looks like once the warranty technicians understood that I was very demanding about quality and complete functions, they took time but gave me a phone totally different in terms of behaviour and quality of the components sensitivity of screen, GPS etc.
Is there some bad production series that they never tells publicly about, and much more better series that they give you as a replacement once they understand you will bother them until the end of time if you are not satsified?
Plz tell your experience about having received two new diamonds with totally different behaviour and quality of the components.
I guess you are totally right!!!
My first device was pealing paint in the aluminium frame on the second day, work very good by the way.
Now i´m on the second device and i my hardware keys, especially the call button is sometimes irresponsive and i have to push it several times to enter the dial.
Tried cooked rooms as well, and the call button issue still remains, so i´m a little unhappy with my diamond experience.
I've noticed that whenever i turn on my display after having left the diamond unused for sometime the lcd doesn't switch on smoothly, what i mean is that it first displays a grey pattern(only for a ms or so) and then the desktop( lcd off>>grey flash>>desktop). Usually the transition from off to desktop is quite smooth, but in my case its not!
Is this a s/w issue or h/w ?
I've never experienced that particular problem myself, but sounds like H/W problem to me...
just been through a couple of other threads related to the grey screen of death...i've had it once...it happened while i ended a call, had to soft reset to resolve it.
take a look at the grey screen of death i'm talking about
Pretty scary indeed!
It might not be a coincidence that you experienced both: grey transition when switching on the screen and once, the grey screen of death after a call...
Two different effects of the same defective part in your H/W?
a solution!, almost
untill now i've had auto brightness control switched off and the brightness was set to minimum to save battery life, but now i just tried switching on auto adjust backlight and the problem seems to have vanished.....coming out of standby is smooth as ever!
although i've to say that i don't quite understand the logic behind it.
*EDIT*
it doesn't help for long

This is what I was worrying about...
Your method sounded like a work around to avoid the display failure. But as a matter of fact, there must be a reason for the display to fail. (bad screen, power supply or something...)
By the way, I'm more and more convinced about my assumption that there are bad production series and better ones:
Today I had my device connected to my PC through USB for a couple of hours. In the meantime, I was downloading and deleting messages, watching google video on opera, after that I used wifi etc.
In this situation, my first Diamond would have got hot like hell and my hand could barely stand the pain...
Since many people were complaining about over-heat problems, I thought that was a common problem with Diamond.
But the new one did not get that hot. Just a little over-warmed, but definitely not too hot. From that phenomenon, I can see what I felt about a better touch-flow behaviour, a better GPS and so on is a part of a whole:
I was first sold a ****ty phone, and now I finally got a proper Diamond!
People with bad series, you don't have to cope with all those troubles, ask for a replacement phone!
my diamond gets heated up quite a bit at times....but i dont fully uderstand what exactly is the cause.....i've had experiences with the diamond getting pretty hot while using wifi & or gps and on another occasion i was watching a DVDRIP via wifi(@ full power) using core player and also with gps cycle running in the backgroud, still the diamond stayed well within reasonable limits.
i think it has to be a software problem, possibly the radio s/w
would you mind sharing the radio version of your diamond?
As written in my signature, I'm using the 1.00.25 which is included in all latest official ROMs.
By the way, I hope you did not cast a spell on me! (just kidding)
Today I experienced my first grey screen!!!
My Diamond was connected to the PC through USB cable, downloading e-mails, and I got a phone call. When I hung the phone, It suddainly happened, for the first time in my Diamond user carreer!
Just for one second, looking like an old black and white TV screen trying to tune on channels.
Hope that was the first and last time. In ordinary calls, (without being synchronized to the PC at the same time, it never happened so far...
sorry to hear that my friend

I'd the same experience except for the fact that my diamond wasn't connected to a PC.
I hard reseted my diamond yesterday, but the grey splash while i turn on the display from standby(post 3) still exists ( ......i don't suppose its a software problem anymore.

Why not trying to send it back to the seller and get a new one?
This problem is easy to demonstrate to the technicians, and I don't think they will be cheeky enough to say that's a normal phenomenon!

not that easy.....the thing is that if we turn on & off the lcd without a gap of atleast 4-5 min(dono exactly) i dont see that grey splash
i think im going to wait another 3-4 months before i approach for warranty.
I had that "gray splash" problem with my Kaiser and Diamond.
Hard reset also didn't work like above. For both devices the fix was simply flashing to a different (cooked) ROM.
As mentioned in another thread, the grey screen problem was fixed (as least for me when I flashed to dutty's rom)

You can stay there and wait for 5 more minutes in the shop while they are attending other customers, just to proove your point.
If they are honest, they will not deny the fact!

There might be some tweaks in the cooked ROMs that avoid the problem, or it might be due to some bad flashing or defective hardware.
If not, how do you explain that I've never experienced this with my previous HTC phones (wizard, Trinity...) nor I experienced it with my Diamonds (the first one and the new one) with stock or cooked ROMs.
except for that very special time, when I received a call while downloading messages through Active Sync.
Well, i have just unbricked the phone, everything perfect but the rotation sensor, the magnetic field and acceleration sensors work, and the rotation sensors whenever i start something to use them, are centered, after moving a little it gets to like 40degrees to be the center, and stuck there in one side. I tried wipe, many roms, all spl all radio all recovery, same thing, even stock, don't know how to fix it, i even tried to leave it for some hours without battery, does someone have a solution we can work out?

When you say that you "unbricked" your phone... exactly what do you mean?
How was it bricked?
As far as I know to unbrick your device means you have to take it completely apart and replace the board. If you did that then you probably messed something up somewhere.
Hi!
I don't know if this helps, but there's the possibility to recalibrate the AK8976 sensor using a diagnostic goldcard.
Please search the forum for dreadiag.nbh.
AFAIK there's still a working link to download the file somewhere.
EDIT: Get it here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=512233
You may then use PSAS to create a goldcard (standard micro SD with special signature) for your device.
Put the file dreadiag.nbh at the root of your card and there you go.
If everthing is right in place you should get a diagnostic menu with an entry to re-calibrate sensor.
Maybe this works out for you...

I think sucka refers to the post from our fellow ezterry:

This had been the first attempt to unbrick Dream from bad SPL flashing.
Regards,

So its been about a year and half since I received this phone for my birthday, and from this moment on, I am 90% sure that these companies design these phones to fall apart after a while so you buy a new one.
Please to not be intimidated by the length of the problems, I really doent want to waste a $600 nice phone. Please help.....
List of problems:
So on one random day, while I was using my phone with EnergyROM sense 6.1 (Not even 6.5 (Windows 6.5.5)) the phone stopped rotating when I flipped the keyboard, as in the screen will not rotate when I try to use the keyboard. The touch screen also becomes uncalibrated, and even when I recalibrate it, it still acts very funky (have to click lower than button or higher, depending on its mood). I did absolutely nothing different with my phone that day, but I did not call my phone dead right away, so I decided to update the ROM with the latest sense 6.5 ROM to see if the OS is corrupt or over-cached. This did not fix the problem.
Also, another very weird thing is the phone's screen will illuminate (I guess backlight), but no picture will show when turned on after sleep mode, and I have to click the top button again to sleep and awake it to get a picture. When flipped, the screen doesn't even fully illuminate, and literally dies down to a black screen (half of the pixels are bright, and then it just fails).
Any help would be very appreciated. What I am thinking of is wiping the phone 100%, and not even leaving a rom on it. I heard there is a command that deletes the junk off your phone from a previous ROM to your updated ROM is clutter free. Any other suggestions?
Edit: I hard reset my phone, and nothing is fixed; I still cannot flip screen into landscape mode.
The "command" you are talking about is called "task 29", look for it in the ROM section.
It sounds like hardware problems, i've had mine for about 1 year and a half as well and no problems besides a couple of scratches.
The flex cable connecting LCD and board might be out of order.... I had the same issue.

Yeah I heard about that problem. I will first task 29 it, but are there any guides to take apart and fix the flex cable, or even just unplugging it and plugging it back in?
Also, what did you do with your broken phone? Did you buy a new one or get it fixed?
Thanks for the feed back both of you.
my X1 also aged same as yours and it still runs flawlessly now. so it might depends on how you used and keep it
as for the "wiping off the phone" its called task 29, and is encouraged to do before you flash a new ROM, have you did it before flashing energyROM?

No, but I just did now, but it seems to be a hardware problem because nothing seems to be working properly still. This is some serious BS because I am very over protected with this phone, just to prevent stuff like this to happen. I have never dropped it ONCE, and it seemed to just wear out by itself. The lenses covering the camera is cracked also, and the screen is all screwed up, and I didnt do absolutely nothing abusive to it, I am 110% sure of this.
Any suggestions on how to fix hardware/ ribbon connected to the screen problem?
Order a new cable and replace it.
If you search on Youtube for the video on how to disassemble x1 there is a complete guide that shows you. Its pretty easy and all you need to do is, take the flex cable out and carefully plug it back in. Then carefully put your X1 back together and hopefully you issue will be fixed. If it still persist, then try and get the flex cable changed.
I've been searching for internet for weeks and i still coudn't find the solution for this thing ..... my screen scrambles and jumbles everytime i connect to the internet using 3g....3dge.. etc but not wifi
here is my phone's background:
when i purchased it it has no problems at all...
after 1 and half years due to daily use keypad gets hard to press and the screen has a lot of scratches casing too..
so i decided to change the case of the xperia an the tft resistive touchscreen and clean the whole thing..
after putting it all back together it runs fine... checking the landscape camera wifi etc..
i decided to change rom because i think i could make it so new that even the os is changed...
i follow the basic process and it work fine..
after a week i notice that when i connect to the internet 3g... it jumbles the pixels of the screen in the upper part of the x1 even on landscape mode.. it is still there....
i searched the internet and i found old questions never been answered;;
http://www.xperiax1.net/x1-problems-issues/1735-youtube-videos-scrambled.html
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=735531
somehow related to connecting 3gs..
i never change to 6.1 because of it's lack of features..
ive change 6.5 roms but the problem is still there....
here is a sample picture:
http://www.glowfoto.com/static_image/27-005937L/9102/jpg/11/2010/img6/glowfoto
can somebody... please.... im begging you.... explain these problem with me and how can i solve it....???? PLEASE..... I APPRECIATE YOUR REPLY OR RESPONSE PLEASE!!!! thank you and God Bless!!!
PLEASE THANK YOU.... I REALLY LOVE MY OLD PHONE... I DON'T WANT TO BUY ONE...
dude, seriously. no one answered? it's very common tiling issues. yours just happend due the notification icons animation. most probable cause is vga driver. search for alternative driver.
No idea dude. But you may try to reflash your X1 to other ROM. I had been facing almost similar connection problem, but mine, the WiFi is undetectable. So I try to reflash my ROM with other ROM. Fortunately, it's working back.
this might be some app problem rather than rom/driver issue although some rom/driver handle it better. i just experience the exact issue after installing weather4me app. disabling refresh(update weather) during startup solved mine. maybe there's background app/process that doing something similiar causing it.
I see 3 possible reasons for this behavior:
- the displaydriver of the 6.5-rom is not really compatible to the hardware.
To check this you can flash the original rom and test if everything works.
- the radio interferes the communication between display and board.
This can happen when the device is not reassembled as original
(broken/removed shielding, dust/dirt in connectors while reconnecting,...).
To check this you have to reassemble the phone again.
- damaged hardware thru electrostatic discharge when touching the electronics.
Unfortunately this can not be checked or repaired. You can only guess if this is a possible reason by answering this questions to you:
- did you wear part-synthetic clothes while working on the electronics ?
(this forces electrostatic charge)
- did you discharge "yourself" every some minutes by touching a grounded point ?
- did you lay the electronics on a plastic ground ?
Hi,
I am going away for a few weeks on my holidays and this year have decided to Splash out on a good Camera, I have bought a 4Gb + Wireless SD card and want to use my Shift as a Uploading station but the Damn Mobile Side is sucking all the juice out of it when it is not being used. Is there any way of disabling the Windows mobile side so that when I turn the shift off it is actually OFF? I mean completely kill the mobile side so it is not eating the battery all the time :/

I also would like to know that too. Looking for a 2nd hand shift x9500 and i oly need it as a mini pc for mobile repair station for SPI and pc bios flashing... Don't need the damn thing as a mobile (specially because is useless as a phone, with a caveman wm OS) I have Droid 2 Global....
Or anyone know how to put android on it as snapview OS like htc HD2

Well as far as I know Putting android on the WM side is not possible due to size restrictions of the piss poor design But surely there must be something to kill the WM side of the device using some sort of flash? I love my shift but for a mobile device the WM is dragging it down I already have 3 more batteries but They still wont do

I'm in the same situation here...it is almost considered useless because it dies in about an hour per battery. Although Windows 7 runs perfectly, the WM side IS DRAGGING it down! I still have the Stock Italian Rom and have not liberated it yet due to a lack of resources...I cannot find ANY files out there at this point. Hell, it took me several hours of searching just to find the drivers for the Shift. What are you running on the WM side?
Until you find a way, it's simple to minimize the power draw from the WM side.
First thing to do is disable the cellular radio. The other thing that most people overlook or just don't know about is that if you hold the power button for about 10 seconds it will completely shut down the device.
Other than that, just accept that battery life sucks on this thing regardless.
What about killing or damaging the bootloader for WinMob and restoring it later on after your return? Or erasing the whole WinMob rom? I don't know how to do that, but just an idea.

I just accepted the fact that the battery life just sucks and your recommendation is exactly what I was looking for...I can now leave it sitting off the charger without worrying about picking up a dead device. Thanks!
How the hell can I switch the wm side to English or do I have to figure out how to liberate/flash a new rom? Otherwise, I'm surprised this thing can even run PGA Tour 2008, office 2010, gta3, etc....I think it's pretty fast for an 800mhz processor. (except web browsing and video...it shows it's age there)
I got a few pdf detailing the device inside circuit boards it looks the wm board actually is a separate removable board from the main board and it getting the power from the mainboard only problem i find with that idea, is that board housing the audio jack and the Realtek HDA audio chip. once i got my hand on my shift try find a way.
