Hi,
I am going away for a few weeks on my holidays and this year have decided to Splash out on a good Camera, I have bought a 4Gb + Wireless SD card and want to use my Shift as a Uploading station but the Damn Mobile Side is sucking all the juice out of it when it is not being used. Is there any way of disabling the Windows mobile side so that when I turn the shift off it is actually OFF? I mean completely kill the mobile side so it is not eating the battery all the time :/

I also would like to know that too. Looking for a 2nd hand shift x9500 and i oly need it as a mini pc for mobile repair station for SPI and pc bios flashing... Don't need the damn thing as a mobile (specially because is useless as a phone, with a caveman wm OS) I have Droid 2 Global....
Or anyone know how to put android on it as snapview OS like htc HD2

Well as far as I know Putting android on the WM side is not possible due to size restrictions of the piss poor design But surely there must be something to kill the WM side of the device using some sort of flash? I love my shift but for a mobile device the WM is dragging it down I already have 3 more batteries but They still wont do

I'm in the same situation here...it is almost considered useless because it dies in about an hour per battery. Although Windows 7 runs perfectly, the WM side IS DRAGGING it down! I still have the Stock Italian Rom and have not liberated it yet due to a lack of resources...I cannot find ANY files out there at this point. Hell, it took me several hours of searching just to find the drivers for the Shift. What are you running on the WM side?
Until you find a way, it's simple to minimize the power draw from the WM side.
First thing to do is disable the cellular radio. The other thing that most people overlook or just don't know about is that if you hold the power button for about 10 seconds it will completely shut down the device.
Other than that, just accept that battery life sucks on this thing regardless.
What about killing or damaging the bootloader for WinMob and restoring it later on after your return? Or erasing the whole WinMob rom? I don't know how to do that, but just an idea.

I just accepted the fact that the battery life just sucks and your recommendation is exactly what I was looking for...I can now leave it sitting off the charger without worrying about picking up a dead device. Thanks!
How the hell can I switch the wm side to English or do I have to figure out how to liberate/flash a new rom? Otherwise, I'm surprised this thing can even run PGA Tour 2008, office 2010, gta3, etc....I think it's pretty fast for an 800mhz processor. (except web browsing and video...it shows it's age there)
I got a few pdf detailing the device inside circuit boards it looks the wm board actually is a separate removable board from the main board and it getting the power from the mainboard only problem i find with that idea, is that board housing the audio jack and the Realtek HDA audio chip. once i got my hand on my shift try find a way.

HTC Shift Unlocking WM
I have a problem with unlocking the WM side, looking for someone with a similar problem.
I installed W7-works perfectly.
Then I installed the WM-SHIFTpack.Liberate OK again.
followed - ShiftHardSPLFinal!.
and that was the problem - WM again locked and did not already install SHIFTpack.Liberate
anyone knows the solution?: Zmatený:

Hey,
I got some problems(aside from those). i just bought the dopod housing for my cingular 8125 because my old housing was cracked in alot of places. did the whole swap no issues and afterwards i cant seem to get a radio signal. now for anyone who hasn't looked yet there is a strip that is located under the antenna cover that connects to the antenna pins and that (as far as i can see) is touching fine. during the swap i did not touch the antenna itself.
now before anyone thinks it i'll go ahead and let you know i did go through the frustrating process of movign everything back to where it was but nothing changed. i also (on my other pc) am trying to reload the radio rom i was using before to see if that will change anything. so i guess for right now i'm kinda looking for anyone who has faced the same scenario and how they solved it, just incase his doesn't work.
oooooookkkkk.... a bit scared.
my phone just cut off and now wont cut back on.i reloaded the radio rom and it didn't fix anything. then all of a sudden while i was resyncing the damned thing just cut off... WTF!?!

battery was charged to "full"?
yeah...
it was. the dmned thing has been F___ing wit me since yesterday.i even used my wife's MDA battery to test it and nothing. for the life of me i can't figure it out i tested the board to see if it shorted somewhere and it was good. i don't understand how it just messed up because i changed the housing?!? so what i might do is take it to the cingular store and have them use the more advanced tests and check it on the energy output to see what happened but if that don't work i might just upgrade my wife's contract(something i've been avoiding) and get the 8525(a hermes, i know) and start over.
but if worst comes to worst i have a question...which is better overall in size, function, and ease of modification? is it the hermes, the titan or the wizard?
in response to your pm...
take the device apart again, clean all the boards and the cables ends[use alcohol only in the cables ends, use a make-up brush to clean the boards cranys etc]...put it back together again very carefully....also do not overtigh the screws or undertigh...good luck....
as for your question above the best device to customize now is the hermes....but i would wait for the hermes II

good point..forgot that...
i doubt it cause...
i used a wrist static dispencer, trust i know better than to go without one....the user name actually discribes me
Wat R Tha Odds...
alright folks here's the skinny. my 8125 fried, aparently somehow i had enough static to discharge and kill my IC ( yes you guys were right and i thank you for it) and now i guess one option available to me is to get the board replaced (firstly aquiring some static resistant gloves ) does anyone have an idea on where to go for a new board or a good condition used one and roughly the dent to pocket it would be?
ok, couple of things...
Been doing some HW and have a question... just to make sure is the cingular 8525 hermes or titan, or is it that the hermes IS in fact the titan? if someone could answer that in definate it would greately be appreciated. And secondly seeing i decided to get the 8525 not being able to find a motherboard i am selling my 8125. please see the post "BUY/SELL a broken Wizard! Protect our dying breed" for details.
A hermes is a Tytn and a Titan is a different HTC phone. A little confusing, but they are spelled differently.
alright....class summary
so the Cingular 8525 is a hermes, which is a tytn(am i good so far?) which is totally different from the TITAN. SO i need to start reading and studying the tytn and not the titan. Gotcha....i think?
Lol yep, I think. I have a kaiser that should be on it's way to me any day now and it's a Tytn II, but not a Titan II or even a hermes II.
Hi Guys,
Like a lot of people here, I am torn between the SE Experia X1 & the HTC Touch Pro.
My question is: Has anyone had any experience with running TomTom 7 Navigator on the Experia X1 at the full 800 x 480 resolution?
Does it work at that resolution? If not, what "downsized" resolution will it work at?
I know the HTC Touch Pro works very well with TomTom 7 at 640 x 480 resolution.
The answer to these questions will go a long way in helping me to make the "right" choice.
Thank you in advance,
Regards,
David
I have used X1 together with the VGA-version of TomTom 7, and it works flawlessly. No "bars" at the top or bottom, it's stretched out all over the WVGA-screen, so you won't have any problems there.
Good, now it only has to be released.

Thank you nelshh. When you say stretched, am I correct in interpreting that you are saying that the 640 high image was "stretched" to 800 high. So the text would be stretched as well?
The fact that it works is the most important point. I suppose the timing will be the issue. As others on this forum have said the Touch Pro is out now (just) and the Experia X1 is still to be released.
My old PDA's screen & internal (non replaceable) battery is on their last legs. It may last until end of September, or a little longer. It now spends more time on the charger than in my hand.
Regards,
David
Hi David! No the text isn't stretched, it's just that the software seems to adapt to the WVGA-screen so it looks just like it was made for WVGA.
I think we'll see the X1 out in like 6 weeks or so, not to hard a wait, ey?
nelshh, how well does your GPS take to find a Sat? It seems to take quite a while for me. If I compare it to the iPhone, it's slower.
And have you used Tom Tom application in the car? While am at it, did you receive any docs with your phone? I'm looking to find a way to hard-reset it.
It does take a while for the GPS to get a lock. Hopefully something that will be fixed in future ROM updates.
No docs with it, so I don't know of any way to reset it
Possible answer to the "hard" reset question.

Hi Guys,
A possible suggestion on the hard reset question. These phones are powered by the battery. If you remove the battery, are you not doing the same as a "hard" reset?
On the matter of the GPS lock time, could that have something to do with the fact that the Experia has an all metal case, whereas most other phones with a built in GPS have at least a plastic back. Just a thought.
Again, thanks for all your valued comments.
Best wishes,
David

No, that's not possible. This is ages ago when the removal of the battery (and the security battery) did a hard reset (like it was on my Cassiopeia E-125).
Actually all current Windows Mobile devices have a flash memory which does not need a permanent power supply in order not too lose data, installations, settings and so on. This was different in the past, when Windows Mobile devices only had a RAM for storage which needed permanent power supply.
So a hard reset basically is a functionality which erases the flash memory and initializes it again with the operating system stored in the ROM, but this has to be supported by the device.
Got TomTom 7 on my X1 aswell, working perfectly fine! takes a lil longer to get connection with the gps than with my tytn II, but its worth it. WVGA + TomTom = winning combo!
Taking the battery wont work unfortunatly. I've tried it many times. The search for a hard-reset continues.
Just as a fyi for everyone, I tried Spb Mobile Shell and it works flawlessly!
There are two ways to hard reset the X1.
First way - Start>Settings>System>Clear Storage then enter the number 1234 and press Yes.
Second way - Take the battery case off. Now push and hold the power button then insert the stylus pen into the tiny hole which is situated around the bottom right of the back of the device 5 seconds.
It is advisable to back up your data before performing a hard reset.
FYI - a soft reset can be performed by ONLY inserting the stylus pen into the tiny hole for 5 seconds.

All of this begs the question Have you had an official upgrade to TomTom 7 from TomTom or is this a copy from some other platform ?
I have been asking them for ages when it will be available and there is no answer.
tomtom7 is only available from some carries bundled with TouchDiamond
hum strange. I'm using Tom tom 7 on my x1 too and i had four satelites right after i had left my house. Seems very fast for me anyway.

The second way stopped working me recently... Dunno, if they changed that in the newer ROMs... But otherwise, you can hard reset the same way you would on most HTC devices... Hold the two soft key buttons at the same time while pressing the reset hole in the back (yeah, I know... they think we're all contortionists or something). Then you'll get the restore message.
BTW, TomTom7 works great on it. There seem to be options on it that I didn't see when I ran it on my Tilt (Kaiser)..

Slightly off topic, but since that TouchDiamond version has been out for quite some time and also lots of people seem to be using hacked together versions of tomtom 7 anyway, does anyone know why tomtom don't just officially release it?
Copilot live 7 works at full res WVGA on the Toshiba G900 so should be fine I'm hoping on the X1.

About hard reset.
1. turn off the phone
2. Hold both right and left buttons (the ones right under the screen, dont know the name)
3. press power button, while still holding the others

Hi I also have TT7 working on the X1.
Could you please expand on the above statement, what other options do you mean?
TT7 works great for me, fixed is slightly longer than normal but I find it better indoors, poorer areas etc.
I dont have the phone here (its the gf's) but when i had the battery cover off it looked like there were 2 identical ports next to each other. one is labeled GPS on the back cover but the other doesnt open to the back cover. whats that one for? is that for an external wifi antenna? that'd be tits!
also, does anyone know if the current 3D driver plays nicely with the 6.1 update from AT&T? i dont see THAT rom mentioned on the class action website.
now some other questions...
any time frame for a 2D driver?
how long till theres a nice linux distro that'll run on it (i know the cpu is relatively weak compared to even lowend desktop and mobile cpu's that linux currently runs on)
and finally...how drop tolerant is it? my gf has butter-fingers sometimes and doesnt keep it in a case (imma kill her for that one). i'd like if it survived till she got tired of it or till its outdated enough that she moves on...because then i get to play with it ALL i want. i'd LOVE a nice portable internet device with gps capability for free, but will it ever be bootable without a sim card or a calling plan? i hope that oneday it will be!

thanks for the fast reply and your drop sounds like it was pretty harsh. by zeus himself im going to get her a case. she works in cars all day and leaves it in her pocket or out on the workbench, the camera glass is already all scratched to hell from her pocket. i swear she makes problems for me to fix them...
speaking of, when i updated it to wm 6.1 i had made a backup using sprite, then i restored the backup after the wm6.1 update. well i did a dum dum and restored EVERYTHING the backup saved! so this caused all kinds of errors and problems and she was very pissed and instead of letting me fix it...she drove 30 minutes in the rain to the att store with me being pulled behind her by my ear (almost literally). some chubby guy played with the phone for about 45 minutes and then said 'i've never seen this before, its totally broke. the wm6.1 update you installed wasnt compatible' i told him it was the official one from the att website to which he said 'yea well its not for THIS device, you'll need to send it in for warranty'...yea OK. so NOW my gf is STEAMED! we go to get some chinese takeout. while waiting the 15 minutes i do a hard reset and only restore the contacts list. i hand her the phone and say 'the warranty dept is done with your phone ma'am'
she likes 6.1 much better and with some tweaks from kaiser tweak it runs pretty quick! the only thing that still pains me is the page tearing due to lack of 2d driver
So its been about a year and half since I received this phone for my birthday, and from this moment on, I am 90% sure that these companies design these phones to fall apart after a while so you buy a new one.
Please to not be intimidated by the length of the problems, I really doent want to waste a $600 nice phone. Please help.....
List of problems:
So on one random day, while I was using my phone with EnergyROM sense 6.1 (Not even 6.5 (Windows 6.5.5)) the phone stopped rotating when I flipped the keyboard, as in the screen will not rotate when I try to use the keyboard. The touch screen also becomes uncalibrated, and even when I recalibrate it, it still acts very funky (have to click lower than button or higher, depending on its mood). I did absolutely nothing different with my phone that day, but I did not call my phone dead right away, so I decided to update the ROM with the latest sense 6.5 ROM to see if the OS is corrupt or over-cached. This did not fix the problem.
Also, another very weird thing is the phone's screen will illuminate (I guess backlight), but no picture will show when turned on after sleep mode, and I have to click the top button again to sleep and awake it to get a picture. When flipped, the screen doesn't even fully illuminate, and literally dies down to a black screen (half of the pixels are bright, and then it just fails).
Any help would be very appreciated. What I am thinking of is wiping the phone 100%, and not even leaving a rom on it. I heard there is a command that deletes the junk off your phone from a previous ROM to your updated ROM is clutter free. Any other suggestions?
Edit: I hard reset my phone, and nothing is fixed; I still cannot flip screen into landscape mode.
The "command" you are talking about is called "task 29", look for it in the ROM section.
It sounds like hardware problems, i've had mine for about 1 year and a half as well and no problems besides a couple of scratches.

Yeah I heard about that problem. I will first task 29 it, but are there any guides to take apart and fix the flex cable, or even just unplugging it and plugging it back in?
Also, what did you do with your broken phone? Did you buy a new one or get it fixed?
Thanks for the feed back both of you.
my X1 also aged same as yours and it still runs flawlessly now. so it might depends on how you used and keep it
as for the "wiping off the phone" its called task 29, and is encouraged to do before you flash a new ROM, have you did it before flashing energyROM?

No, but I just did now, but it seems to be a hardware problem because nothing seems to be working properly still. This is some serious BS because I am very over protected with this phone, just to prevent stuff like this to happen. I have never dropped it ONCE, and it seemed to just wear out by itself. The lenses covering the camera is cracked also, and the screen is all screwed up, and I didnt do absolutely nothing abusive to it, I am 110% sure of this.
Any suggestions on how to fix hardware/ ribbon connected to the screen problem?
Order a new cable and replace it.
If you search on Youtube for the video on how to disassemble x1 there is a complete guide that shows you. Its pretty easy and all you need to do is, take the flex cable out and carefully plug it back in. Then carefully put your X1 back together and hopefully you issue will be fixed. If it still persist, then try and get the flex cable changed.
Hi all,
recently one of my Kaisers died, still got one left though. It made me wonder:
- Is your device still alive?
- Who is using it as their daily device?
Use the poll and post your story :victory:
(And tell us what rom you are running)
My SIM slot doesn't work. I actually, don't have any working device working right now... I was using Android but it just got too much corruption and I was too lazy to do the partitions again, so I just installed some WinMo ROM.
Yep mines still going strong... Love it.... is my Work phone... Have 4 spare batteries so when away for long periods it is a god send... Not the fastest phone around but damn reliable!!!! Tried Android on it but never managed to get a decent FULL hardware working version on it... so went back to just winmo...
even have a spare waiting in the wings when current one died. LOL
battery replacement needed
Amazingly, even though my touchscreen died, the rest of the phone is working. I am using keyboard-kung-fu to navigate.
My battery is about to die/explode, it has expanded so much that the rear cover literally can not be closed properly.
I ordered a replacement from a local shop, and when it arrived, it was DOA because the stock was TOO OLD!! CRAZY!
I currently use my phone as a 3G modem (connected to my LAN router via USB)
Does anyone have any suggestions on home-making a replacement battery?
I have tried:
1) wiring up the + and - lines from a 3.7v LiIon notebook cell (device won't power on, but the green LED flashes if i hold down the power button). (Size does not matter - the phone sits on a windowsill)
2) wiring up a battery from an HTC Touch HD (only 3 connectors, not 4) -- same situation as #1
3) bought a replacement battery - new old stock from HTC - and it was DOA
4) bought a replacement battery - from some other manufacturer but I don't remember the name -- same deal, DOA
Is there any way to wire up any other battery? Size doesn't matter-- anything with compatible wiring will be OK with me.
Any suggestions?
of course!
it was last time i looked about 2 months ago
now ive seen this thread i will have to check again once i get home.
it was dropped several times. had the case replaced twice - the whole phone casing i mean.
first time was just because it looked a bit tatty
second time was after i dropped it while reading the gps on my mountain bike (yeah i know, not the cleverest thing ive ever done), i was crashed on the deck and could see my bike sliding one way and the phone another on its front side must have been one of the very few times that i was on my bike without the aluminium case and safety line
it would still look like new if my wife hadnt dropped it on the pavement, only minor scratches that time...
i still remember when i used to show it to people and they were impressed with the bright touch screen,
then i would slide the case open using the mario sound and the keyboard would light up and they were really amazed
happy days eh?
I use mine like an iPod now (kinda). I go to youtube and do web browsing
I use mine almost daily, on my second network on which i have an unlimited data plan. I flashed it with scoot's cyanogenmood 7*, in order to keep it working better than with winmo .
Kaiser
I still use it weekly. Winmo 6.5. I still like the simple ability to click on a phone number in an email and go straight to the dialler without copy and paste.

Android does that.
I pulled mine out of its box in the basement after it had sat there since Aug. 16, 2010 (based upon the last text message date), and not only did it accept a charge, but it booted right up. It's sitting on my desk right now while I cycle the battery a couple of times before deciding exactly what to do with it.
Windows Mobile Rocks!!!!
I still use mine everyday for calling texting and browsing it's not superfast but it is still better than any of them fisher-price apples.
