Hi ladies and gentlemen!
I have tried and tried and tried to flash mi tilt, and no luck. I've followed the intructions(let me guess well if you followed the instructions then you shouldn't be having a problem? save it.) It's not working! :[[[[[[[[ It keeps giving me the error 262 update error. I did what the solution said to do which was to soft reset and enter bootloader, and i did that but still no luck. I 'flashed' wm6.1 i think well installed it from htc's website and it worked and stuff, but i hate it! It is so laggy when i text and it keeps going into sleep mode after 10 seconds or the backlight goes dim after 10 seconds i've tried fixing it with what htc says to do but it still does it after 10 seconds. AND kaisertweak wont work it says the file is corrupt; i've tried re-installing it so many times i threw my phone!!!! ;[ It still works but it has a dent on the side. It doesn't bug me Anyway, someone has to have a solution for all this! PLEASE!!! AND THANK YOU in advance. I also followed the instructions on 'flashing for newbs' and still no luck. If you need info on my phone here it is: WM6.1, (when entering bootloader with the power+camera+SR) 3.56, THE PHONE IS UNLOCKED(as in i can use t-mobile, verizon, etc.), and that's all i can remember lol. Oh yeah one more thing, i can't seem to get rid of the 'bloatware' :'[ I've tried many so-called 'solutions. :'[ no luck. HELP!
This is the second " help me with my phone " thread you have started in the rom development section. You are not developing a rom or aiding a chef in developing a rom. So stop starting new threads here. Your last one was locked, and so will this one. This is not the I'm a noob , help me section. If you are having a problem post it in the flashing for noobs thread. There is no problem that you are having hat hasn't already been addressed in that thread.
Have you flashed hardspl yet ? Which one 3.34, 3.56. 3.29. 3.29 cmonex ? Have you tried flashing from an SD card ? 262 is a usb error. Have you tried reloading activsync ? Have you Disabled anti virus and firewalls. Saying I've tried everything tells people nothing.

You figured wrong, twice apparently, so Mr. Denco was showing you your failures in figuring. You got the "attitude" for posting in the wrong section TWICE.. When a mod closes or moves the thread, they explain why..

I used to upgrade roms all the time on my 8125 and never had a problem - until a couple of days ago. I tried installed the wm6 "most beautfiul" rom on my ppc and it bricked my phone. After many attempts I finally realized that I needed to install the official cingular 225 rom (available on the site) in order to get my phone to work. Since then I have tried downgrading to button and to wizard love with no success. My ultimate goal is to get to WM6. I have tried unlocking and have read all the threads and followed the directions but I cant switch roms. Can someone please help me with this. I am getting desperate.

Yep, I've replied to ecomajor's various posts in various threads and have basically given up. Very little info each time and having a problem that nobody else that has followed the steps has had.
Sorry ecomajor, don't know what else to tell you that hasn't already been said numerous times.
One Last Try -- Then, I Give UP!!
Read the following post on how to flash ANY Wizard (yes, that includes the 8125) --

Now, follow the directions in that post WORD FOR WORD and STEP BY STEP. The only reason it wouldn't work is that you're NOT READING and/or NOT FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS STEP BY STEP.
If you CAN'T read and follow directions, then don't be trying to flash different ROMs to your phone. If you're not willing to do what's necessary to help yourself, then noone else is willing to help you, either. . . especially when your problem has already been replied to with the same information over and over in 2 DIFFERENT THREADS now.
Let me detail you the exact steps I have taken. I have read through those posts, many times so I am certain I took those steps
1)device starts normally goto step 3.6 since unsure if unlocked.
2) read farias thread
3) download buttons rom
4)attempt to downgrade rom - failed
4a)tried 1.08 rom instead of button - failed
4b)tried wizard love- failed
5)download lokiwiz
6)followed all directions -failed - since was not able to downgrade rom.
Obviously these directions are not 100% foolproof - I know that the first time I tried installing WM6, I did not read through all the threads and after much effort I discovered that if I installed the official cingular 225 rom then I could get my ppc back working but since then I have had no luck getting flashing to work. Please tell me what I am doing wrong because noone has had my exact situation. there is no need to act all holier than thou and accuse me of not reading because since I screwed up the first time I have read through all these threads numerous times.
Ok, one more thing to try (shot in the dark, but I have no clue what is happening here)...
On your PC (its running XP, right???), do you have Firewall and/or Antivirus? If so, reboot your pc and don't start anything and then turn off your Antivirus and Firewall programs (I found a couple of threads where people were getting the error 260 when ZoneAlarm is active). Now try flashing the button rom. Don't try doing any other roms, don't try doing lokiwiz, just try to get the button rom on. If that works, then continue on with the steps here:

You might even try booting your computer into safemode and try flashing that way (I doubt activesync would be there, so put the phone in bootloader mode, and if you see USB above the left softkey then you should be able to flash it this way from safemode. Never tried it, but it pretty much eliminates anything that may be on your PC thats causing problems).
If none of that works, then get back to an official stock rom again and report back here with exactly what you did, what you saw, and all. Don't worry about the post being long, because to me, too much info is better than just short posts that don't tell us anything. Also, only update this thread. Forget all the other threads you have stuff going on about this problem.
Final question, I asked this before (and I don't remember if you answered or not)... Have you tried to flash your device from another PC?
And I've attached the ROM Update Utility Readme.doc that describes the error messages and how to fix them.
The weird thing is I never get code 260 with the cingular rom update just with the other roms. I will have to try the disabling all firewalls, antivirus etc at home bc at work there is all sorts of stuff i dont want to mess with. Problem if I do it in safemode is then the activesync driver wont be loaded and it will give me an error for that.

I've never tried it in safemode so I don't know if that will work or not, it was just an idea as we are grasping at straws here. But if you boot to safemode, and with the phone at the bootloader screen (hold down the camera button while you turn it on to get to the "rainbow" bootloader screen), if it shows USB above the left softkey then the computer and phone are communicating and Activesync does not matter. BTW:You can try the safemode way there at work as you will have no network connectivity in safemode so you don't have to worry about violating security policies.
You still have not answered my one question directly... Have you tried flashing the button rom to your phone on multiple computers? Or have you always done it from the same PC? And are the PC(s) that you are using running Windows XP?
What DOC chip does your device have? G3 or G4?
If you have a G4 then i guess you ruined your bootloader since G4 devices don't have and don't accept 1.xx IPL versions!!
I have tried button from multiple pcs. This time it gets up to 98% on button and then dies and it gives error 302 - update error for the button. This is a problem that I was having before.
Did you read the document I posted?? If you're getting Update Error 302, you're not going to be able to recover with anything other than the stock Cingular ROM.
Chances are that you did indeed ruin the bootloader when you tried using the ShellTool to flash a G3 phone. And I doubt seriously that you'll be able to do a warranty exchange if you can run the stock ROM successfully, so I'm afraid you're stuck now with the stock-shipped ROM.
So you are saying there is no way to fix the bootloader (like flashing it or soething) I was figuring I had screwed something up. I actually had read the document before but thanks for your help. Why is it that you can fix many other issues with the 8125 but not the bootloader?
I'm not saying it CAN'T be done. What I AM saying is that in the year I've been registered and active here, I've not seen any posts/threads about recovering from a bad bootloader. But that doesn't mean that there ISN'T a way to do it.
You might want to do a search of the Wizard section for bootloader error or recovering bootloader to see what might come up.

I am new to completely flashing a custom ROM. I've been trying to flash a new ROM on my tilt, with the latest AT&T updates(ROM 1.62.502.0 Radio 1.27.14.09). Each time I try to flash a custom ROM I get Error 262 Update Error. The progress bar never gets past 0%. I've tried multiple PCs and tried reinstalling ActiveSync. Am I missing something, or do I have to do something first before being able to flash the new ROM?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

i suggest u read all the wiki's and stickies regarding flashing a custom rom before taking any action...u obviously havent read it or havent got a good understanding of it which is why ur getting this error...and btw..i also suggest u search for solutions rather than just posting a thread like this which can be answered through a brief search of the forums.

I have searched the forums over the past week or so. The solutions suggested such as soft reset, hard reset, reinstall activesync, switch USB ports, etc have not done anything. I also came across this thread:

which would suggest that I there is an incompatibility. I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of which radio version etc I would need to update to in order to update to a WM 6.1 ROM.
edit:yes I have run CID unlock.

AT&T 1.62.502.0 w/ 1.27.14.09 radio should flash fine on any Tilt even without CID unlock, since it's signed by AT&T. While I'm glad to hear your phone is CID unlocked, it's still strongly suggested that you flash HardSPL & Security Unlock your device.
Regarding your current issue, have you:
* Tried another computer to flash from?
* Entered tri-color bootloader mode on your phone prior to flashing? You can find out how to on the wiki.

My error 262 fixed
I don't know if this is the best place to put this, but I didn't want to open a new thread.
I too had been getting repeated error 262. And I spent a couple of hours searching for answers, and while there have been many questions raised on this subject, there have been few clear solutions (and certainly none that worked for me).
I have the HTC branded Kaiser installing from Vista. (By the way I am new to this, but as I had such a hard time working this out, I thought I should at least post what worked for me.) I unlocked the CID with pof's Hard-spl v1 tool. Then (as I want to stay with Mobile 6.1) I upgraded the hard spl to v3.28 by JockyW. I then downloaded a number of Roms I wanted to try. That is where the trouble started.
Each ROM I tried would get past the tri-color screen with no problem. Then it would hang at the 0% until finally showing the error 262. A soft reset would reload my previous rom unchanged. I tried many things: removing all USB's, firewall, virus protection, hard reset, reboot windows, every suggestion I could find (and understand).
While the hard spl I had should have worked, I thought I should try version 3.29. When trying to upgrade to that I had a similar problem with error 260 this time. Looking over spl update instructions I realized I had forgotten to uncheck "disable usb connections" in "Activesync" at the proper stage. Once that was unchecked, the new spl loaded. After that I was able to load the cooked roms with no problem.
It appears there was something wrong with the HardSPL v3.28 I was using or in how I installed it. The tricolor screen was showing 3.28. In any case, after I reinstalled a new hard spl (this time 3.29), I had no more error 262.
A bit long-winded, but hopefully this might help someone else.

Now i just want to know how to Apply it to the phone.
What do i need to change in the phone before installing the ROM?
Is it even possible to change ROM in a prototype?
I also have problems updating my ROM (when i tried it before)...RUU gives me error code 262.

You need to check in the bootloader(tri-colored screen) what your spl is... In order to flash a custom rom it will need to say this SPL-0.72.01OliNex....if it does not say this then you need to hardspl the phone...if you follow the instructions it is easy. Once this is done then you will need this....copy the ROM you have downloaded into the CustomRUU folder and execute the file. If this does not work....you will need to format your memory card(Fat32) and follow these instructions, plus there is a video tutorial regarding all the procedures you need....the instructions are as basic as one can get.

You mean that no person with a general knowledge about flashing rom = busting warranty shouldnt be allowed using a phone?
How do you know anything about what i do with the phone, with what apps im using, and what im using it for?

There's a list of error messages here somewhere. Maybe you can find it here. I think the answer is here. It sais just try again after turning off and turning it back on again
btw, being rude to other users isn't going to help you get your questions answered any faster. Updating roms isn't that hard anymore, but you need to be carefull and know what you're doing. If you don't understand how flashing works and what you need to do for that, you can read the stickies in this rom section. I think it's explained very clearly and step by step lots of times.
edit: looking at all your posts, it seems you've asked the same about three times, and most things kan be found easily by google or the xda forum search. Maybe try a bit harder before asking here?
if you don't like criticism, just ignore my post; everybody has to learn to work with windows mobile, but the only way is to try a lot yourself, search, try some more, search again, then ask and try some of the answers given. Don't get agitated when not everyone is giving you the right answer in clear steps, most of the users are trying to explain as good as they can with the information provided.
the guides are pretty thorough...
if you read them its clear enough...
(assuming you want to use non official Sony roms - you need to flash your hardspl so you wont get errors... (think this is where you're stuck)...
download a hardspl and flash it via activesync)
Then
copy the rom into your sd card root directoy...
rename it to kovsimg.nbh
hit the reboot switch while holding down power and the down vol button to start the update process
this is the easiest way...
but as above, if you want shortcuts for everything and dont read the instuctions clear you MAY END UP BRICKING YOUR PHONE...

I'ts a difference in writing a post with no meaning and a post like you just did.
Example: You start a new thread, no matter what it's about. There are two guys responding.
One guy is giving you this as a answer: Lol, thats kinda noobish that you dont know how to use your phone.
The second guy answers just like you did, you gave me information and links on where and what to search for. But still points out that theres many "obvious" stuff that im asking for.
Big difference.
Back to topic. I've already figured out how to do all, i have all the files that i need.
The problem is that when i try and update the SPL to 1.00.X1 instead of thje other 1.02.Olinex (or what its called) I always get a connetion error 262.
Ive read the links that you gave me before, and it says that you need to either softreset, change usb port or reboot your computer. Guys in another thread gives the same instructions.
Still no success.
So since i've done my searching, done the exact procedure that you should do. And it's still not working. Is that still something just "obvious" to ask for?
And i apologize if i hasn't been clear enough in this thread that the phone im using is a proto. And i still haven't been confirmed by some other proto user that this method is acctually working.
I'm thankfull for all the (helpfull) responses i get. And im trying them all.
If something else comes up i will post it in this thread. No matter if its obvious or not.

Looks like there's a connection error when your phone reboots to go into tri-color boot menu.
Google for USB Mass storage device, download the driver and install it and then try again.
Of course you have to find the right driver for your OS.

haha, damn, thats obvious, that i didnt think of that before. hehe, thank you!
Btw, if the phone gets into the tricolor menu, and the progressbar shows up (but still stuck at 0%) can it still be because the driver?

if its stuck at 0% it means you're not flashing a compatible rom...
obviously you havent flashed the spl...
flash a OFFICIAL sony rom first... if you still have issues at least you know its either the 'prototype' hardware
or your PC...
which i'd suggest try flashing from another PC...

Oh, im sorry if i didnt expressed myself good enough.
When im using X1_HardSPL i get the 284 update error.
When in using the custom RUU i get the 262 error.
So i guess the X1_HardSPL application is to change SPL?
If i cant seem to change SPL i wont be able to change rom either. Correct?
Since i have the SPL that was shipped with the phone, can i still upgrade from R1A to R3A without changing SPL?
Have you disabled any of your firewall and anti virus programs when you try using the software?
I previously always had to disable my zonealarm firewall before I could uset he spl software....

yes if you have the stock SPL you can upgrade from R1a to R3a with the standard SE update utility.
which can be downloaded at the SE site under support.

Try flashing the official Sony Ericsson ROMs first. No need to Hard-spl for those.
I cant install R3A :S
It says "No image found" bootloader.
And the card is FAT32, and the file is named Kovsimg.nbh
And yes, its placed in the root of the Card.

And if you try to flash via ActiveSync with CustomRUU? That worked most of the times with my X1. Oh wait, that got you the error 262.
In one of your other threads someone says (or you quoted) that one of the advantages of a proto was that there's no security check, which means it might not even be necessary to use HardSPL first.
I've had error 262 a few times; just try to flash again, maybe from another computer if that's possible. You can also try to flash another rom first.
Which roms have you tried flashing? Have you tried with a freshly formatted sd-card smaller than 2 gb (although I think that won't have any effect); you can also try renaming kovsimg.nbh with all small letters, all capitals or the way you just spelled it. It might be important.
offtopic: I get your point on the reactions you get when opening new threads. Everything is simple when you now where to look or if you've done it before, but it can be very hard to find the answer when there's so much info to choose from.
That said: a topic title of something like "having trouble flashig a custom rom to prototype" sounds a bit more serious then "need massive help" with a lot of exclamation marks. That might set people off on the wrong foot.

I've tried some roms that i download from here and i had a lot of problem with all of them.
problem in graphics problem with the phone the get stuck a lot even the phone doesnt work.....
WIFI and BL working but phone is not.
Anyone know how can i put this operation system without probs?

Installing new ROMS, make sure you hard reset right after the phone reboots from a fresh ROM Load. People have noted here that problems almost always surface without the Hard Reset on a fresh ROM.

i know this might sound like a stupid question but i am confused...
i tried flashing hardSPL but it wouldn't.
So it just keeps at 0% for more then half an hour. then i just disconnected it.
I have the RHOD300 version and used the GSM version.
What do i do wrong?
i do not need to SIM-unlock before right?
and the CID-unlock is the same as the hardSPL i thought? so why can't i flash?

Correct, you don't need to SIM-unlock first. Check the troubleshooting section near the start of the sticky HardSPL thread, there are lots of suggestions of things to try there.

firstly thanks for yozr fast response.
i read the troubleshooting section and everything but i could not find a solution to my problem
i am able to connect the phone and put it in bootloader and then flash it.
everything works as it did on my kaiser when i used to flash it...
so i get the grey screen with the progress bar on top but there is no progress! ive been waiting for half an hour but still no progress.
so i dont know how to go on now...cuz i need hardSPL for flashing all other roms
could someone help me here?
and is there a way to flash it via sd card?

You can't flash HardSPL via your SD card, no, sorry. You really need to post up on this in the HardSPL thread though, rather than having a separate thread here.
