i did see something on the t-mobile website saying the rate is 2.50 euros maximum for internet, im gonna see if i find a cheaper source as i'd end up paying 150 euros just for internet in the time im staying there, a bit expensive still..
are they the only place u know of?
nope i also believe whit ben you can have a contract for only a month or two its simonly but would help you as you already have a phone
you can always leave if you want
well saw you know 100% dutch so check out the site www.ben.nl
best regards

dunno if its possibl for foreign paspoorts s i know some providers makes a deal out of it
or the want a dutch bank account
Vodafone sells prepaid SIM-cards for about 5 or 7,50 euros, which comes with 10 euros credit. Unlimited internet access can also be bought for €9,50 per month with a "BloX" called "Zorgeloos Internet". You'll have to reactivate it after 30 days.
Without this BloX thingy, it's 75 cents per 15 minutes. So some quick math will show you it's way cheaper, especially if you use mobile internet alot. However, VoIP and SMSoIP are not allowed, as well as using your mobile to gain internet access on your PC.
To activate it, you'll have to send a text message to 4000 saying zorgeloos internet aan

I think even when asking something in english people there will help you.

MSN is allowed, I've got a Vodafone branded X1 and it had MSN pre-installed, so I guess that's allowed, huh?
Just noticed they also have an English summary on their site at
vodafone.nl/english/prepaid/blox
Apparently the data usage can't be more then 10 times the average from all users.
BEN is just awesome!
You can stop your contract whenever you want, and you can use it as long as you want.
And the service is just excellent. They're really awesome guys over there.

Warning for anyone taking out a Kaiser/Vario III on T-Mobile:
"The Vario III is a stylish and powerful pocket PC offering one of the best mobile internet experiences on the market - with 1.8MBps HSDPA, surfing and downloading is super fast."
This is a lie. T-Mobile have disabled the HSDPA on all new connections, unless you pay an extra £5/month for Web n Walk Plus. They are doing bait-and-switch.
They claimed to me I would not notice the difference because the data is compressed or some such lies. They said they cannot enable it, even though my existing line has it enabled. They claimed they would be removing it from existing customers on Web N Walk.
T-Mobile make NO MENTION on their site of the fact that if you want to make full use of your phone, you need to pay an extra £180 over the course of the contract for the cheapest contract, to get the feature of the phone that you have paid for.
They don't care. They don't inform people.
A complaint has been submitted to Trading Standards about their website's lies.
Well, you certainly got a point about T-mobile trying to shake as much money from you as possible, but they don't exacly lie about the capabilities of the phone.
I can empathize, but £5 per month is not that much for a higher level of service. I'd rather have such a tiering system where higher users pay a small amount more than to have ridiculously low fair use limits like O2 and Vodafone.
This way - pay less, get less. Pay more, get more.
Its clearer this way.
BTW, isnt it an extra £90 (£5x18)?

Agreed and althought it is £90 you are also likely to get money off the phone in the first place for being on a more expensive tariff.
Although it may not be technically a lie, this is just another typical example of misleading ads to attract gullible punters. Yes you would be naive to get into an expensive phone/contract combination before reading the small print. But I do sympathise; the statement makes it very easy to believe you get HSDPA out of the box, which you don't unless you have the right contract.

They do, because it's locked to T-Mobile, and on T-Mobile's advertised tariff, it is NOT capable of HSDPA.
So it is not actually capable of HSDPA.
And I agree that their tariffs are very reasonably priced. I just think they should be honest and up-front, and not promote several phones as having 'super-fast HSDPA internet', without explaining anywhere that the 'web n walk' they promote people to get doesn't let you do that, and not explaining anywhere that you won't get HSDPA without paying more money.

Nope, that's where you're wrong.
The issue is, there is no small print. I have no problems with an advert saying 'super-fast internet with HSDPA (*)' and then in tiny writing saying 'only on Web N Walk Max Plus tariff'.
Read all of T-Mobile's website, nowhere does it say that you have to get Web N Walk Plus to get HSDPA.
If you look at this, for instance:
http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/content/business/uk/business-1/flash/t-mobile-1plan-landing-calculator.swf
and select Data, it says 'All data bundles are HSDPA enabled'

Getting a bit into semantics here, but the phone is still "capable" of HSDAP (from the technical viewpoint - capable refers to a possibility) - all it needs is activation.

Yeah well, that it can do that is widely known, I don't think anybody need T-Mobile to tell them this. It's the fact that you have to bend over backwards to find out how that hurts.
On the first day of upgrading to my Vario 3 I rang T-mobile and asked for HSDPA to be enabled.
This was done with them only asking one question "are you going to connect your phone to your laptop?" naturally I said "no" and she enabled it...no fuss...no muss...
I have heard of the problems some people have had but as previously stated no where does it require you to upgrade to web and walk plus.
Might be too early to know, but does that mean, that if the HSDPA is not enabled, then it wont display an H symbol? only G and 3G?
I tried to go to some sites that check broadband speed, but the java wouldnt load up.. anybody know of a site that works on PIE?

If its not enabled it will only display the "3G" icon if you are connected online, once its enabled and online it will change to "H".
Thanks for the post jameson_uk.
I started a new contractlast week with T-mobile, buying off the webpage flext 35 with walk n talk (£7.50) and my H seems to come up, occasionaly it goes to 3g.
I havent enabled anything yet? wonder if there was a threshold value they put it on? or if they havent disabled the webpage hi speed enabling yet.
wow in Europe they charge you to use HSDPA? Here in the states is use it if its available. Sprint (CDMA) has vision that works on 1xRtt at $15 and power vision EVDO also starting at $15. When RevA device is available, it will also be $15. AT&T has Media Max $20 for dumbphones, SmartMax $30 for smartphones and PDA personal max $40 fo PDA phones. It doesnt matter if you have 2G or 3G device or if its UMTS or HSDPA device. The cost is the same. Just the account has to provision it. Infact, my account is only provisioned for UMTS but my data connects to HSDPA. while tethering, google maps downloads new maps peak at 1.8mbps.

Ok im almost ready to sue AT&T for how long this is taking. I have spent 5 hr on the phone trying to get my data plan back...
Here is what happened. my 8125 with a 2 year old cingular unlimuted data plan (40$) included tethering and there access to isp.cingular. well my phone died so i went out and got a tilt. i bring it home and i look online and find that the (trying my best not to sware) horable sales men switched my plan to a 10$ more expensive one with out asking me. So then i have to spend time getting my plan back. so they revert it to a 40$ plan but i cant connect to the isp.cingular. i call back, go to there head it person and he says you can get it back. you need to spend 60$ on a plan that supports this. (im thinking you people messed this up, un mess it up) so i kall more times and i get nowhere. all them dont understand me and think im having a problem with wap.cingular even tho i say wap works. i mean i have been using the isp all through out the time i had my 8125 and loved it. now i get a diled isp.cingular. unable to connect.
so what do you think i should do. i have spent too much time on this but i want my old plan back. does anyone have any ideas or advice. (and yes i have gone to the manager wice... they were less helpfull then the others)

When you got your tilt, did you sign up for a new contract? If not then you should still have your old plan. They are grandfathered in. They CANNOT take it away unless YOU switch your plan. Just be aware that you cannot access 3G with the SIM card from your 8125, you will need a 3G SIM for that.
well i think i did sign up for the 2 year aggrement... but i did get a new sim card. but can they really change your plan with out telling you and make it 10$ more expensive?
Are you sure about that statement? There are no contracts for data plans like there are for voice plans to my knowledge anymore except for a few specialized data plans (most of those like some international data plans are 1yr commitments). Thats why you can add and cancel your data plan at any time without having to pay an Early Termination Fee.
I've gone thru some of my contracts for the past few years and I don't see anything stating any data plans have a commitment form either party. Only Voice.
well i mean i got the two year contract to keep the price of the phone low. (the 100$ off with 2 year contract) so yes it is for voice but the guy changed my data plan for some reason
Yeah this happened to me as well. When I got my tilt they chopped my old plan to hell and back and to get it working right I ended up having to pay more money than on my old plan. Sucked and for some reason it's a hit or miss whether or not I get pictures messages now.
Ok, well i guess i will try my best to have them give me the 60$ plan for 40$... just have to make them feel horable for it
they do it cuz they make commision off u
its in the contract u signed. they lie, cheat.
thats how corporate is though.
just ask them to switch you to a media net unlimited plan $15
tell them u have a regular phone not pda, and ask for the $15 media net unlimited

What about the fact that they are now monitoring the IMEI of the phone you are using and if it is in their database (AT&T Branded) then they'll know he should at least have the $30 plan. (Which is still a lot better than $50)
Anybody know what happens if AT&T figures out you are on the wrong plan? Do they switch you to the $30 plan or try to charge you outrageous fees?
I don't want to tether, and I'm offended that I should have to pay 2x for the same service just because I bought the wrong phone! Maybe somebody will come up with a way to repair our IMEI soon.

One time when i was in the At&t store talking to a rep making adjustments to my plan, he noticed the HIGH data usage and saw that i had a medianet plan and not pda connect on my 8525 (this was about 6 months ago).
He tried to force me to switch to the $49.99 pda connect plan but i just persisted that i bought the 8525 from them with that plan so he let it slide (although it was an imate jasjam and not att's branded 8525 )
BUT he warned me that if i get "Caught", and he said i will, they will charge me per KB which will have the bill break through the roof! But i know if this happens i can just go to the store with my bill and add the pda plan and have them cancel the charges. (i've done this before when i went over my minutes, messages, and kb when i was on a 5mb plan, not unlimitted)
I haven't been caught yet and last week i switched to the unlimited pda data plan for $30 so i'm playing it safe now (but still tethering )
ALso i can not connect to isp.cingular, i thought that was the point of the pda plan. Do i have to call and ask them to allow me to access isp.cingular?
From my experience, wap.cingular is faster than isp.cingular.
I have the $45/mo PDA Unlimited Plan (includes 500 any-type messages), and I tether using wap.cingular. I get 50-100kb/sec download speeds on my laptop when tethered.

Typically if you read the two year agreements or rebate agreements they will say that it's only valid with a specific data and voice plan of at least $X value. That's not uncommon.
As for getting back a grandfathered plan. I know at Sprint, depending on how old the plan was, once it was deprovisioned the system just was no longer capable of reprovisioning it. No matter how much you wanted it to.
My guess is though that you did in fact agree to have your plan changed. They just didn't make it any more clear than they legally have to.

My mistake... I am on the $39.99 PDA Unlimited plan. I was on a strange combination of Data and Messaging plans until I went into an AT&T store to buy a pair bluetooth headphones, and the rep looked at my account and pointed out that I could save money by combining my 2 options into this 1 plan.

That is a cute trick, but you are not the first to think of it. AT&T can tell that your are on the tilt. The browser requests contain information about what OS you are using. You probably are not using ridiculous amounts of data, so they have no reason to look. If they ever do look tho, they will see you are on WM, and they will switch you to the correct plan without warning.
I work for AT&T Tech Support. For the sake of keeping my job i'll call my self BoB.
Anyway you can still tether with wap.cingular as mentioned before. The only way we'd catch you is if you were downloading torrent or excessive amounts of data. We recently changed our data features which I think is retarded.
One thing they don't tell you is that the new Tethering plans which cost money out the ass have a 5GB soft limit.
What this means is that after 5GB of data you have used, AT&T will monitor any usage past the 5gb. The reason for this is so that they could price their data plans accordingly, hopefully for the better but in this world probably will be for the worse.
If you are casually browsing just use internet sharing in your phone to tether. Go to File Explorer-Windows-Scroll down about halfway to Internet Sharing then hit connect.
YOu could also go to wmwifirouter.com and download the app straight from the phone, it turns your phone into a router and you can just tether like that. I think it's ridiculous to charge so much for data. Sprint (even though I would never switch) Has their unlimited everything for 99 dollars, data, gps, voice, tv, etc. That just goes to show you how much unlimited data is actually worth.
Get a 19.99 Medianet Unlimited Plan, 19.99 Unl Messaging and you are set
Just get a RaZR and switch your sim card out, place a couple of test calls, and boom call in to have it changed or go online to make the change. After you have both features on put SIM back into TILT and you're done. I feel so bad when I tell a customer that in order to tether they need a 60 dollar feature. I'd feel insulted if that were me.
Thanks everyone for this help... after reading i guess my new question is what is so different between isp and wap... i thought it was like wap goes through a proxy and is not "THE internet" where as isp is "THE internet". is that right? also i would run a speed test too but well i cant.
Is there any way to get rid of it ?
I am not using any data connections, only WiFi sometimes. I installed NoData and disabled all data connections, then applied some registry fixes posted here to disable 3G, but I am still getting this icons, so suppose it is on .. ?
Please advise me how to disable it completely.
Thanks.
The phone will always notify you of what network you are able to connect to, regardless if you're using data transfer or not. All that's telling you is what zone you're in, try accessing a web page and if it doesn't allow it you're all set. No worries.
P.S., is data really that expensive there? It seems I hear a lot of people in Europe using apps like NoData whereas here I can get unlimited data for $30/month and it's a non-issue.

As far as I know internet is much cheaper here than in US, people use NoData because they do not have good roaming data plans and go abroad quite often. I can understand why you do not understand that, you probably don't use roaming that much as even if you drive to the west for 2 days it will still be US (or sea bed).
So, back to topic, any idea how to disable it (I am a great fan of minimalist design) ?

P.S., is data really that expensive there? It seems I hear a lot of people in Europe using apps like NoData whereas here I can get unlimited data for $30/month and it's a non-issue.

Not expensive at all, 9,95 euro a month for unlimmited in the netherlands, hsdpa connection.

Yeah, a bit cheaper than here. That's like $15 USD I think.
And whoever else talked about roaming, good point. I've once in my life been out of my plan's local range, that was when I went to PR... Too poor for a trip to Europe (maybe in a few years).

If you snees hard you are already outside the Netherlands and then we pay like 15 euro for 1 mb datatraffic.
Some people who are on vacation get bills from 1000 / 2000 euro. That is why we are a bit carefull.
1 europe is still not 1 europe
Well, the lucky thing for me, when I plan on going to Europe it'll be for quite a trip, so I'll just get a local pay-as-you-go SIM to throw in my phone and not worry about international roaming. Prices aren't great on any prepaid, but a lot better than using AT&T across the world.
Thank you Hertc
Please advise what model Diamond you are using....in bootloader screen [3 color stripes] [reset and hold volume down] is your diamond Diam100 or Diam130 or...
Please advise also under settings/system/device information what you have...Rom version etc.
Again many thanks

OMG, I'm glad that I'm relocating to Amsterdam in 1 month then
Here in Spain the cheapest is 15€ for 200Mb/month at 3G speed and when you reach that you're capped to 128kbps. Amazing, isn't it?
I have an orange uk Dolphin 35 contract that I took out and got the original HTC Touch (2G)
I have now got a diamond that obvioulsly is 3G capable but Orange refuse to update my SIM card.
Has anybody else experienced something similar and did you get it fixed
You're not the only person I've heard say this. I remember reading a very similar thread on here a while ago. Good luck hope you manage to get it sorted.
What about instead of asking for a new Sim, you call tech support and make out you are unable to make a video call to a friend/family.
As you would require 3G to make video calls, they may suggest they update your sim.

Tried something similar - they just said you have a 2G contract so you can't!!!
did you really think the rom update would also update your SIM?????
i guess you didnt upgrade to the diamond through orange then... bought the diamond sim free?? would it not have been cheaper to u/g?
I don't think i mentioned upgradeing the rom - and no i don't think that a ROM upgrade would change my SIM.
no a ROM upgrade would not be cheaper - it cost me £40! And I cannot u/g until July.
So thank you for you helpful post!!!!
guess you have had it till july then.
if you took out a 2g contract thats what you get.
why should they upgrade you to 3g.that would cost them more.
It won't cost Orange anything to upgrade his SIM - data is data. They are just being awkward. I had the very same thing with O2 a couple of years ago so I called them and told them my sim was no longer working and they sent me a new one provisioned correctly for 3g. I'd be very surprised that if Orange sent you a new card that it wasn't provisioned for 3G.
orange are really awkward like that. just tell em your phone wont start, keeps asking you for a sim card even though there is already one in the phone. Blag it.
they did the same thing to me when i got a SE k608i years ago too.
of course it would cost more.
if hes got 3g he will download more.
Hi I work for orange and im afraid if you have a 2g phone registered to your account then orange will only supply you with a 2g sim card it doesn’t matter if you have purchased a 3g phone.
well said
people always seem to want something for nothing.

Ok!
I dont think I want anything for nothing! I have been with Orange for about 8 years! and always paid them quite a lot for the pleasure.
Orange Dolphin 35 is the same contract whether you have a 2G or 3G phone. No difference - same price. just because I didnt upgrade with them they won't do it and the only reason I didn't upgrade with them is because I committed to a 2 year contract and it is too early (how loyal am I - well not anymore!)
orange dont do them!!!
well in that case how come i have unlimited data contract with orange?
thought everyone with diamond had one.
guess its just tuff **** then lol.
just to make you even more sick i get 600 minutes, unlimited text,
unlimited data.got the phone free and got a sony psp free.
all for £35 a month.
sometimes you have just got to love orange.

What contract/bundle do you have (cost?)
Orange were offering unlimited data a couple of months ago on new contracts - I have unlimited data on my Dolphin 35, but they stopped it soon after.
If you're close to the end of your contract then just speak to retentions.

updated previous answer.
thought about it after lol.
Orange where offering the unlimited data on most talk plans in july. i must say they call it unlimited but it is subject to a 3gb limit a month.
I just got in with Orange's free unlimited download offer, as long as you had 18 month contract for £35 or more per month. I got Racoon 35. It is ridiculous and incredibly shortsighted of Orange to offer better terms to new customers than existing ones - reminds me of the Nationwide ads running at the moment on UK TV.
How long does your existing contract have left to run? Orange, like all of the other mobile providers in the UK, have a special team to encourage you to stay with them. That team are able to offer much better deals than any one else in the organisation in order to keep you.
I would phone Orange and then hit the Option for "thinking of leaving us", and speak to that team. Tell them you are so annoyed by this policy that the moment you can you are going to leave them. Sound like you really mean it but do not be rude or lose your temper - after all you want them on your side!
Remember that if you do leave in the UK you can ALWAYS move your existing phone number (I have moved mine 3 times now) to a new provider and you will get some very good SIM only deals from them all
Hello
I have been using the 9.99 web2go data plan part of tmobile for about 3 months now and this morning it just stopped working. I wanted to see if it happened to anyone else, and what setting is everyone else using?
i tried:
internet2.voicestream.com
wap.voicestream.com
both didnt work and i tried to use a proxy with the wap.voicestream and didnt work as well
any help would be great!
I'm also using the mobile internet from T-mobile and don't have any isseu's with it.
what you could try is the connection setup maybe it will help. it is located in start>settings>connections
They also nailed me today. THey are forcing everyone without T-mo phones to the 24.99/mo plan. Jerks.

whats ur configurations, that you are using??? because i believe i tried everything that i know of and its not working for me...
Mine internet was setup automaticly witch connection setup
the settings of t-mobile internet looks as followd
General tab:
T-Mobile internet
Moden tab:
T-Mobile internet
Acces point name: Internet
The user name and password is empty
Proxy settings tab:
there is no proxy
could i aske you where you live. maybe its a local problem.
but if i'm must be honest the mobile internet of vodafone is much much better than the on of t-mobile. i used them both and the vodafones was much faster. but thats my experiance. now i'm using the 15 euro internt plan from t-mobile it is a little bit faster thatn the 10 euro.
Here in US, we need to put a Access Point name, but they want everyone to use the 29.99 plan, but there was a loop whole where you can use another plan but still get unlimited internet, but it seems that isnt happening anymore for some people ; (

Not at all. That used to be the case, but then there was a legitimate $9.99 internet/messages plan. It was just a $9.99 plan for a half-ass edge connection, which I was okay with. But they are trying to force us up to $24.99, STILL for a half-ass edge connection (because X1a can't connect to USA T-mobile 3G). I say we boycott.
my 4? dollar whatever it is plan still works haha. I've had this thing for like 6 years? 7? and mine still works fine.
Yes, my 9.99 tmobile data plan stopped working too just last night, called tmobile and they are positive that it's due to the upgrade of their pricing, 9.99 plan no longer work, at least for smartphones, to browse the whole web. they are pushing a 24.99 or even 34.99 plan. We say we boycott too!
that soo stupid... i havent called yet, but ill call later today and see what they say
T mo told me since i had a phone not from their network i would have to get the 24.99 data plan and the old one wouldnt work anymore. then seemed as if they were relectant to remove the 9.99 data plan. Whats the deal with that? i didnt change the rules you did!
I am in the same boat. Called and they say I have to pay $24.99. This sucks and I just joined tmobile.
I went online and canceled my 9.99 plan, and now I'm thinking of switching to AT&T 39.99 /mo + pay per MB ($2 per MB) internet. Then I would only use the internet if I absolutely need to. Unfortunately it's only 450 minutes/mo (but with rollover). Anyway, there's no way I'm going to spend $75 / mo for EDGE on T-mo. Ludicrous.
I hope others also ditch T-mo; this was a really underhanded thing they did, especially since we never got any kind of warning.
i may do the same thing, i havent had time to call them and complain about this
Good news, mine started working again today, this morning

i pay 15 dollars for my unlimited data with att ... im so loving this 3g.
I agree, same here, but did you check with tmobile again to confirm that they didn't automatically move us to the 24.99 price? That's the case I'm worried most. But I highly doubt it is so.
I am using T-Mobil's 9.99 TWeb plan and everything works great except for MMS i can receive picture messages but i can't send them. its very weird i didn't have that problem on my Htc Tilt. so i don't know if its a window mobile issue. it seems since i have been using flashed roms with 6.5 i have been having problems. i am going to flash back to original ROM and see what happens. if anyone is having the same issue please let me know, i really don't want to go back to Original rom!!
