Decimal replaced with "y" character - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I have searched google and here but no joy. For some weird reason my decimals have been replaced with a "y" character. Anyone knows how I can fix this before (rather has anyone ever seen this before) I have to hard reset or send phone back for a replacement. Not sure if this existed before I started loading my favorite programs or not. It basically causes problems in programs where the decimal is interactively input such as in an expense program and it reflects the "y" when showing file sizes such as 48y25 MB.
AT&T HTC Tilt 2 Winmo 6.5 Pro
Thank you very much.

If you have a Tilt 2, you need to move to the Rhodium forum.

Sorry, thanks I will move to the Rhodium forum.

in case you haven't gotten a response in the rhodium forums, it seems your phone's regional settings are out of whack...go to Start->Settings->System->Regional Settings and check up on what your "Decimal symbol" is set to under the number tab.
to clarify further, it does NOT sound like an issue with your hardware or your keyboard because at the end of the day, your windows mobile OS thinks that "." is "y" and displays that symbol, even in data/information you have not entered, such as your example of showing file sizes like "48y25 MB".

Dadgummit!
Thanks very much ASCIIker. That was all it was. And I had already started removing some programs thinking that one of them was the culprit and in preparation to return the phone to AT&T. You saved me a lot of grief. I owe you a drink or dinner if you are ever in the neighborhood.
Thanks to ASCIIker this problem is resolved.

Annoying SMS Problem!

I had this problem on my 8525 after flashing one of many ROM's and now have it on my Tilt with stock ROM. When sending a new sms or replying to one, the screen defaults below the address part onto the bottom of the text portion of the screen. I know this is a reg hack that is needed, but for the life of me I can not find it in a search. This was a common problem on the 8525's after a certain ROM upgrade if anyone remembers.
you mean where it cuts off the person's info you are replying to?
Yeah its annoying!
Doesn't cut it out, but when you open the window to reply, it defaults to only showing the text area, and uses the bottom part of the screen as the point that it sets to show. Thus, the top part of the text reply window is off the screen.
And yes, it is very annoying. I gotta find the reg hack to fix this!
As I recall it happens when the reg is set to use the right and left nav buttons to page down when using IE, it causes the sms to open at the bottom of the screen and you have to scroll back.
This question was asked by another Kaiser user.....guess you guys have all been busy flashing ROMs
The answer IS a reg hack, and here's a link to the reply I posted - the OP hasn't responded to say whether the problem is now cured, but if it's the same issue I experienced on my Hermes, the above answer will work.
Post back....I'd like to know if it works (I'll be getting my Kaiser next month, so this will be something to add to the "Tips and Tricks" document I'm compiling from everyone else's posts )
Cheers,
Mark.
My reg value is already set to 1 in this file. So, only option, set to 0 and lets see what happens!
Was just skimming through some threads and stumbled upon this. That problem was driving me crazy but i hadn't gotten to the point of searching for a solution yet.
This worked for me on my Hermes.
Thanks ^_^

Are you referring to the hack listed in the response above? Because on the Tytn II this value is already set as stated in that thread.
No this is not the same issue the Hermes had when you set the D pad to scroll in IE that issue was the "text curser" would be all the way at the bottom of a screen no matter what cutting off half of emails and what ever else text was sent to you. there is nothing to fix this issue as of now. BUT when I compose a new SMS it ALWAYS starts at the address line not sure why your don't

Cant paste telephone numbers on dialpad or dial from within e-mail calendar??

Anyone been able to work a fix for this? WM 6 would underline numbers in received e-mail, calendar etc etc one could dial the numbers directly from within the mail?
The paste function has also been removed from the dialpad
ROM 1.37.421.3
This thread has an interesting solution.

Surur
this is bugging me bigtime!
im going try change the phone skin to the old wm6 version with advanced config, seeing as the function was there before on older phones then it should work here too.
can someone provide a solution??
The same problem for me.
I realized that when you have the status opened (it opens while you are talking) in the menu you have the paste option... but it is useless.
I also want to paste some numbers in the phone to call them... it is very annoying not to have this option (sometimes I need to copy also some numbers from internet pages... but now it is impossible!!!).
Can someone help?!?
Thnx.
Urosh
Hi Surur,
Good one thx for the link, i think this was a serious oversight from MS, this is the one reason i would chuck the phone.
So far i have enjoyed the phone, i think it works well, but as i said its virtually useless if you cant paste numbers on the dialpad.
This limitation is really annoying me now; and still, a month down the line it's the only unforgivable problem I have with this otherwise fantastic little phone.
I was hoping it was a simple oversight, and would have been fixed by now. Has any of the later ROMs addressed the issue? If not, has anyone came up with a solution, or at least a realistic work around that doesn't involve pen and paper?
for over 3 years i am using a dialer "contact breeze".
the dialer himself is also of value but i am reinstalling it each time only for this tweak. long press anywhere in a meeting or task and it will offer any of the telephone numbers in it. no need of any other spaces, tlf:, etc. just type the number and it will be offered for dialing after a long press. the prog cost a few $. it worth it!
Thanks, sounds like a usable work around, I'll check it out.
Still hoping for a real solution though... Anyone?

Word Completion editor for WM6

Hi, This hasn't been asked in a while at least as far as I could find so I wondered if anything further has happened that I haven't heard about in the realm of Word Completion dictionary editor for WM6? If you have looked you know there are 2 popular ones but neither works for WM6.
The reason I have a need for this is everytime I try out a new program it kind of "scrambles" my word suggestion list and adds a bunch of nonsense words strung together. The only thing I can do at this point is to clear all saved words. I am running other programs and KT but this has happened from day one with this device. (att tilt/8925)
Any ideas? Thanks.

Different sort of keyboard issue...

Hey guys. I just recently updated my Tilt to Dutty's latest wm 6.1 WWE (4/28/08) & radio 65.14.06. The problem I'm having isn't the standard tilt keyboard fix or a cleartype issue (I've seen someone post this type of question before only to have the Cleartype solve it). My problem is when i type in a document or even a sms (anything that involves the keyboard) it seems like my thumbs are moving faster than what I'm trying to type. Its rather frustrating. Here's an example since I'm typing this on my Tilt anyways:
Red foxes jumpedt he river bed only to finda wolf hiding int he bushes. He atet hem oneb y one.
Besides my lame story skills, you can see what my problem is. The really weird part is that when i do force myself to type slowly, the text will even "AutoCorrect" itself (i.e. Ate them = atet hem) to look misspelled/fractured. Also, my backspace button likes to choose not to work, turning itself into Delete when it wants to (but no other buttons are affected). Any ideas or cabs I haven't come across yet?
Also, the auto correct hardly works as it is. It won't provide apostrophes where needed.
Thanks for everything guys!
I'm not trying to yell at you, I just have a Reputation to uphold regarding this.
DISABLE XT9!!
So Search for that CAB in the File Repositories and it will fix your issue.

Doesn't work. No, really, I had this issue before it was installed and still have it now.
Option 1:go to setting---input---Word Completion---Clear stored entries. This will delete all the incorrect words which have been remembered by the phone. After that, try to type slowly.
Option 2: Disable the Auto Correct function
See if that helps.
Which version of HardSPL do you have installed?
Try installing one of the latest ones or see in the ROM thread which one the chef recommends.

How to disable capital letters after punctuation mark in SMS/E-mails?

Hi all,
I don't like the feature that a word at the beginning of a sentence will be capitalized automatically when writing an E-Mail or text message. Does anybody know how to switch that off? I know that there are some related settings in the input section, but these settings have no effect on my upper case problem.
I guess (hope) there is some registry setting. Does anybody know a solution?
Cheers,
foo
P.S.: The reason why I hate this feature is that it works wrong for me. When I write an E-mail I start like:
Hello blabla,
how are you today? ...
actually the "h" will be capitalized automatically which is wrong.
haven't found one yet (although haven't looked hard). If you undo straight after the capitalization the word returns to normal (although undo is pretty hard without a Ctrl key on the hardware keyboard).

The setting is in the soft keyboard options. Tap the little arrow next to your keyboard icon and see the options tab at the bottom.
Uncheck the box "Capitalize first letter of sentence"
This may not work on some extra keyboards/sips you install and may need immediate soft reset to make changes.

This setting is already unchecked but has no effect.
Did any of you guys ever manage to fix the Capitalisation issue?
I've just bought an HTC Touch Pro 2 and am having the same issue.
Checking or unchecking the box, warm reset, cold reset, nothing makes a difference.
I'm someone who IS very much bothered buy auto-capitalisation, and so would appreciate any help anyone can offer.
Cheers.
Yup, have the same problem since I got this phone last year! I searched back and forth, up and down and NOBODY knew a solution so far. And I guess, not so many are bothered by this crap either...!
Some say its windows fault... BUT even in word (windows) we can DISABLE this crap... and why is it there to UNcheck if it does not work??? So this is definately a fault... from SE or MS, I don't care... just fix it...make it work as it is suppose to (unchecking means DISABLED!!!!)!!!!!!!!!!
If you find a solution, please share here. But frankly, I don't think there is a registry solution for this. So until SE or MS are really acknowledging this and fix it, there won't be a 'real unchecking' of this crapppppp!
Unbelievable, eh?
Reading other forums on the same topic I see that people all miss the point. Some people love auto capitalisation, which is fine and fair and good for them, while others - like us - hate it. It should up to the USER to decide whether or not they want it, not the manufacturer, and not other forum users either!
I too am at a total loss to find any solution. let's keep this thread alive, and anyone who finds anything at all that might help please do post.
Thanks.
i don't have any resolution to offer. sorry.
but i am another confused end user, highly bothered by this automatic capitalization setting. i share the ineffectual setting problem.
however i do have some good news. i'm running the newest NFSFAN ROM 6.5, and the setting actually does take effect in the ROMs custom text message input field. in all other text input fields, it doesn't.
if anyone can help us, it has to be NFSFAN, NFSFAN ROM's developer.

Not in English and formatted like that it's not
I'm one of the ones that doesn't mind it. 99% of the time it's right for me. I always E-mail and SMS with full words no shortcuts and it saves me an extra tap when starting a new sentence, whether the new sentence follows a full stop on the same line of comes after a full stop and then I move to a new line.
It definitely wont turn off on mine either though.

It's not an English lesson, but it's right more times than it is wrong. (When typing correctly).
Got it!
Well right or wrong... I found the solution.
There are two files located in the windows directory, that are responsible for auto-capitalization:compose_sms.htm (used when composing text/sms)
compose_note.htm (used when composing email)As the extension already indicates, these files are really html files.
You have to edit these files and remove every occurrence of the word "autocap" within. I used total commander for the job (it comes with an integrated notepad).
After I saved the files I had no more auto-capitalization. (It's not even necessary to do a reset)
P.S.: You should do a backup of the two files before editing them, just in case you mess something up.
Good job!
Pity the tick just doesn't work properly.
It's not because of the comma that you get the capital letter. It's because of the line break.
By the way.
Hello xxxxxx,
I was wondering what...
Is correct as far as I am aware. Every letter I get from anywhere has a capital letter in the first paragraph.

Yes, that's right, but there are other situations like using abbreviations (followed by a punctuation mark) in sentences where autocap fails.

The orthography varies of course in different languages. In German language it is a rule to start the first sentence lower case after a salutation followed by a comma. If I used an exclamation point, which is also valid after the salutation, I have to start the next sentence upper case.
In other words:
Hallo Herr Bla,
danke für Ihre Bla Bla...
is correct in German language but might be wrong in English language.
Thanks... YOU are THE MAN !!!

This is brilliant work! Thanks a lot and it WORKS! Just changed it and now this stupid auto cap is gone!!! Since this is a Read Only File, it should stay like that too!
Actually I don't know any language where one writes a Capital letter (except in english the 'I')! So this is just crap and an oversight from MS that this cannot be changed even though its UNchecked in settings!
This autocap was also capitalizing when just pressing the ENTER key and a new line was started, no matter if there was a Period or a Comma!!!!!
Thanks again from all of us who suffered from this...until now!
First up, as the guy who started this thread 100 years ago, my apologies for not being a part of it lately. I've been away.
Secondly, a thousand thanks to Foo for the HTML solution, which I'll try immediately.
Does this solution also stop auto full-stop (auto period in the US!) as well? No one in the thread has yet mentioned the REALLY infuriating feature: type two spaces and you automatically get a full stop and then auto captialisation as well. At least you do on my TP2!
There's certainly no harm in a healthy discussion about what is or is not correct punctuation (although this isn't really the right forum for that), but the truth is we're all free to spell and punctuate however we want, and it's not the place of any software or hardware designer to tell us how we should do that. If I choose to spell the word "Individual" with three Zs, a silent Q and a fullstop in the midle, that's my choice and the software should allow me to do so!
An hour later, and an update on my progress with Foo's HTLM fix:
The fix has eliminated Autocapitalisation after voluntary fullstops, for which a HUGE THAK YOU
However, it hasn't cured the "double-space = auto fullstop and auto capitalisation" issue. Does anyone have ideas on removing that one?
Cheers.
compse_*.htm in ROM and immutable?
I've just upgraded to an official WM6.5 release on my Touch Diamond 2, and have encountered the same annoying problem with first letter capitalization staying on despite the user visible configuration setting.
I've found the \Windows directory compose_*.htm files, with the 'autocap' flags in them .. but on my device these compose_*.htm files appear to be in ROM and immutable. I can't change their permissions to make them non-hidden and/or non-readonly, and I can't delete, edit or overwrite them.
Any ideas, or am I "Stuck" Capitalizing The First Letter Wherever Microsoft Though It Was A Good Idea? Heh.
Thanks!

This doesn't work for me. There is no data in these files that says "autocap", it's just a general template for SMS and Email messages.
