Since sometime last night when I hooked up my X1 (currently running Valkyrie 5.4 Firestorm) to the charger for the night it seems to have screwed up the assignments for some HW buttons: The power key suddenly behaves as a sort of lock for the other HW keys, but it won't switch the display off anymore. It has also been switching on and off at apparently random times before that, and all day yesterday whenever I used the power key to switch it to sleep, the display went blank, then came up again, went blank again. Sometimes twice.
My install routine: Installed ROM, Hard-Reset, restored PIM backup, installed Manila SMS fix and SetVolume (which doesn't seem to quite work), installed Mobipocket Reader, hTorch and Navigon. That's all the custom software I've installed so far.
Someone help me please? My x1 won't even automatically go to sleep right now.

This just started happening:
I restart my tilt. I push the power button and the display brightness gets brighter but the device does not turn off. I push it again, the device turns off but then I can't get it to turn back on without soft resetting! What the crap??!!
Any clue what is going on?
Thanks!
Alan
I am just a n00b, but it sounds like your power button got mapped to your brightness control somehow, and when the screen goes black, the device is not off, just brightness set to 0. When you soft reset, the unit just sets back to default. I am not proficient in mapping the buttons, but a quick search on the forum should help. I know that there are a lot of threads having to do with mapping keys.
Hi
I experience the same problem and strange enough after I downloaded a patch released by HTC for potential issue with blue tooth and the phone.
A soft reset does not solve the problem, instead a Sync with the PC (even not a full one) cure it for a period of 2-3 days.
I have the impression that it is more complicated than just a registry issue. For instance I can not run the TOM TOM any more.
The HTC support only suggested a hard reset that I did but for complicated reasons I was forced to restore a back up I had.
So I am still affected by this problem.
I did a hard reset and used spb backup to restore everything to the day prior. The last thing I remember installing was s2u2 0.99c which seems that it would mess with how the device responds to the power button. I'm going to post over there and see if there is a chance it was the culprit.

You have to disable directdraw in s2u2.

It was and is disabled at least according to s2u2 settings. I did notice that for me in 0.99c DPAD was enabled but did not work.
Hi all,
a few days ago i saw a strange behaviour of my X1
If i push the on/off button the X1 starts the phone app and sometimes even the caroussel function of MS3.
I didn't install new apps or change reg keys.
The system was running almost perfect in the last months
After a hardreset yesterday i reconfigured my X1 and it seemed well for the moment. I turned the device on and off several times and it showed normal behaviour.
A few hours later (X1 was not in use) i pushed the on/off button and the problem was back again...
IMO the X1 acts like someone pushes the left silver button and sometimes the green tel button.
Has anyone an explanation for this?
Ideas for solving?
Thanks
Horst
one program I use on the X1 is called AE button Plus
it can remap all the hardware buttons on my X1, maybe you can try them and see if you can set the ON/OFF button from there, overriding your default action for a temp fix
Same problem here, after my xperia fall deep into the water!
I fixed this using s2u2
Thank you guys for the answers.
What i'm looking for is a reg key that changed or sth like that.
Unfortunately my knowledge about the registry isn't very good.
Perhaps one of the WM pros reads this and can give me an idea where to look...
Thanks
Horst
I'm using jjblaster's 28014 ROM. I have the setting to NOT lock the keys when the device is off. Whenever S2P is running and the screen goes blank, the keys don't wake the device back up as they do when S2P is not running. The only way for me to get it to wake back up is to slide it out, then back in.
Do I have something strange in my settings for S2P or something? Has anyone else experienced this? Is there an easy fix (registry, a setting somewhere, etc.)?
Bump. Anyone have any ideas? I'm also running S2U2 if that makes a difference. It doesn't have the problem while not running S2P though.
I was running that ROM for a little while on my Tilt with no issues like you're describing, have you Reflashed and reproduced the issue?
Just to make sure, you're trying to wake it up with the power button correct?
I have flashed a few times and it's a problem every time with various ROMs.
It seems to be a problem with S2U2. I don't lock the keys when the phone is asleep (using Settings/Personal/Keylock). Normally, S2U2 just wakes the phone up when I hit any of the hardware keys... just not when running S2P.
I can still wake the phone up with the Power key but my power button is messed up so it's hard to do it that way.
I have a problem with my Topaz and have a suspicion it is a HW problem.
Several weeks ago I watched Futurama on my Topaz using TCPMP player (as many times before) and suddenly the volume adjustment screen appeared and the volume decreased to zero (but the corresponding button was not pressed). Since then this problem appeared every time I tried to watch a movie. Sometimes it helped to stop the movie and to switch off the display but sometimes I had to put off the battery.
I tried the HW reset but the problem appeared immediately after the reboot (when I imported my PIM data and the system was sorting the SMS messages).
Originally I thought the problem is connected with the high processor load but then I tried several tests and figured out that the problem is probably purely random and appeared here and there when the display is switched on (when I use Nitrogen player and let the display on, the problem appears, when I use the button on the screen to switch it off, it does not appear). Recently I tried to let my mobile with the display on (and no program running) and after approx. 30 min the problem appeared again.
What do you think? I have a suspicion it is a HW problem (a problem with the button sensor) and I will have to reclaim.
Did you do a hard reset by holding both volume keys and soft resetting with the stylus?

Yes, I did do a hard reset several times and the problem occured again and again. Yesterday evening I loaded the newest ROM and now I am testing it. Video is playing now and I am impatiently and nervously waiting...
I did some preliminary testing today and the system seems to be much more stable than with the previous version of ROM, which is highly surprising as I was totally convinced it was a hardware problem. However, it was a little bit colder today in comparison with the previous days and the overheating of the device (and the button sensor) is still in suspicion. I will continue in testing the stability of the system tomorrow.
And there it is again.. :-(
Although the frequency of the occurence is not so high. But still it is pretty annoying, the next week I will send the phone for the warranty service.
I think the problem is somehow connected with the overheating of the device, because I guess it should be no problem for the device to play a movie for one hour or two, even in 30°C heat.
Problem solved - the warranty service sent me a message that they found the same problem during the test and they changed the motherboard. I hope my device will be OK now.
Hi, the 4 buttons - Call, End call, Start, and OK - have stopped working on my win mo device (kaiser aka tytn2, wm6.1). Keyboard backlight doesn't turn on when I press them. All other keys (including IE, messaging, both soft keys, and all the other keys on the device) are working though, and backlight is turning on with them. Maybe it's related to the fact that a few days ago after disconnecting this device from charging over usb it almost stopped responding so I had to reboot it (device was probably low on memory too just before reboting because of many programs running). Some time after rebooting I noticed exactly these 4 keys not working. Powering it off and on doesn't solve it, I have tried it several times. Trying to assign another action to OK or Start button didn't help too. Looks to me like soft problem still..
How can I find the cause of the problem and fix it thru some setts, user config, user cfg files, registry, etc?
Please help!
Edit: Also, is there a way I could test if Call, End call, Start or OK button is working at the lowest software levels that are possible (like in bootloader screen, etc.)?
OK
