I have a problem with my Topaz and have a suspicion it is a HW problem.
Several weeks ago I watched Futurama on my Topaz using TCPMP player (as many times before) and suddenly the volume adjustment screen appeared and the volume decreased to zero (but the corresponding button was not pressed). Since then this problem appeared every time I tried to watch a movie. Sometimes it helped to stop the movie and to switch off the display but sometimes I had to put off the battery.
I tried the HW reset but the problem appeared immediately after the reboot (when I imported my PIM data and the system was sorting the SMS messages).
Originally I thought the problem is connected with the high processor load but then I tried several tests and figured out that the problem is probably purely random and appeared here and there when the display is switched on (when I use Nitrogen player and let the display on, the problem appears, when I use the button on the screen to switch it off, it does not appear). Recently I tried to let my mobile with the display on (and no program running) and after approx. 30 min the problem appeared again.
What do you think? I have a suspicion it is a HW problem (a problem with the button sensor) and I will have to reclaim.
Did you do a hard reset by holding both volume keys and soft resetting with the stylus?

Yes, I did do a hard reset several times and the problem occured again and again. Yesterday evening I loaded the newest ROM and now I am testing it. Video is playing now and I am impatiently and nervously waiting...
I did some preliminary testing today and the system seems to be much more stable than with the previous version of ROM, which is highly surprising as I was totally convinced it was a hardware problem. However, it was a little bit colder today in comparison with the previous days and the overheating of the device (and the button sensor) is still in suspicion. I will continue in testing the stability of the system tomorrow.
And there it is again.. :-(
Although the frequency of the occurence is not so high. But still it is pretty annoying, the next week I will send the phone for the warranty service.
I think the problem is somehow connected with the overheating of the device, because I guess it should be no problem for the device to play a movie for one hour or two, even in 30°C heat.
Problem solved - the warranty service sent me a message that they found the same problem during the test and they changed the motherboard. I hope my device will be OK now.

Hi all,
My BA has suddenly developed a very strange problem. It suddenly, for no apparent reason start beeping with the volume indicator on full (as if someone is pushing the volume slider up). This turns off only when I push the volume slider down. But now, the volume up slider has stopped working (down is fine), as has the power off switch. BUT, the power switch still works ok for switching on, and for toggleing backlight...it only doesn't switch off. Most irritating is the "Slider up" beeping it seems to do at random, and doesn't stop until it has been fiddled with. Any ideas?
BTW, I have a T-mobile BA upgraded to WM6 a year ago with no problems.
Thanks!!
First which rom do you use, does your device makes this with other roms, did you tried hard reset?
If this is not software issue(the upper suggestions did not helped), then you must clean the contacts of the volume slide button it may be stuck in up position. If this does not solve your issue clean all buttons contacts, and if this does not solve this issue then maybe there is something wrong with your motherboard
Thanks for that Xplode.
Before I got a chance to look at your more involved options, my battery began to die, so I plugged in the unit to the power. And now the beeping problem seems to have gone. The problem with the volume up slider and power off buttons remains, but they are manageable - the beeping was driving me nuts! My suspicion is the non-official 3200 mAh battery I am using...the phone has never been quite right since I installed it. Let that be a warning to us all......
Hi,
I have a really strange problem with my kaiser.
First I discovered that my keyboard (beside arrow keys) and front pannel keys doesn't work. Although keys lights up when sliding, but going dead after 2-3 seconds. Only keys that work are directional, power and photo button. I performed a soft reset but that didn't helped. And now each time device is turning on again the voice recording is starting... :/
I've tried hard reset but that didn't worked either...
I didn't install any new ROMs or softwares before it happened and I'm sure I didn't drop it that day...
I have tried some other ROMs couple of times but still no joy...
Is that flex-cable failure?
Any ideas how to fix that?
I had this exact problem occur yesterday, lasted about 24 hours, but it has since fixed itself (???).
The entire keyboard (except the arrows) and most of the buttons (except the center and directional buttons) stopped working entirely... but today out of nowhere it began working. I doubt this helps but I'd like to give you some hope.
Hi i have a few issues on my diamond. I hope you guys could help..
1st issue: lately my diamond keeps on resetting by itself.
2nd issue: later I've learned that when I record my voice using the software within the ROM, I don't hear anything but when I record my voice using my htc headset/earphones there is a sound.
What I did was:
This day I've flashed a new rom (Energy Rom) into my Diamond. It works ok then I flashed the Radio (Radio_1.13.25.24). I was able to use my diamond for a few hours.
Now..
3rd issue: My diamond is not powering on..
What i did before this happened was...
I pressed and hold the power button for about a few seconds so the ShutXP would pop up and I could soft reset my diamond. Before I clicked the soft reset button, I was checking out all the functions of it. then i clicked, a little icon, which is the Setup Timer Action. Here's the setup:
Action: Turn Off Pocket PC
In: (i don't exactly have seen the time indicated)
As curious as i am, I Clicked the Set Action button. It did shut my diamond off. Then I tried turning it on, but all it was doing was vibrate and the screen was black. At first I was hearing the start up sound a few times but later it didn't hear it anymore. I plugged in the charger but there's no white light on the circle button which used to have a light on the borders of the circle button when plugged in the usb cable. I tried pressing the power button plus the Volume down so the bootloader would appear but it did not. What shall I do?
Are you sure that the screen working because the phone vibrate and play the startup sound so if think its the screen that have som serious problem !!
HELP
I also flashed a new rom (Energy Rom) into my Diamond before.
It cannot run window mobile6.5.........how can I do???
I cannot connect to PC .......
I recently also had a similiar problem, after attempting a flash of the Rom, the ROM update stopped halfway through and reported that it had lost connection to the device....
The whole phone would not vibrate/power on, nothing - no glowing ring around the middle button to indicate it charging at all.
I had to return to the repair centre and somehow they didn't notice that I had modified the firmware and replaced the whole phone for free citing a hardware issue ...
Doesnt sound good if you cannot hard reset the device
Hi hope someone can help. Over the weekend my TD2 started playing up. All of the hardware buttons apart from the on/off button have stopped working. I also notice that if I turn the screen off with a short tap of the on/off button, after a few seconds it comes back on again. All touch screen functions are ok. It also appears to be draining the battery very quickly, to the extent that fully charged at bedtime (no bluetooth or wifi on and a stable 3-4 bar signal) it will be comppletely drained by morning. As far as I am aware the phone has not gotten wet at all.
I have also re-installed the office HTC rom, which made no difference
Any ideas??
So you reinstalled the stock rom and did a hard reset?
You can try Tarkim's Keyboard controller and see if your hardware keys can be mapped to a different function.
That would help eliminate hardware vs software issues.
I have the same problem. Also my backlight keeps working and won't go off. Can't perform a hard reset because my volume buttons(and all other hardbuttons accept the on/off) aren't working.
Searched for the solution but can't find it anywhere. Who can help me?

Try clear storage app to HR.
Thanks for your reaction.
Yesterday I managed to put an official ROM on my phone.(latest from HTC site).
Problem only got worser. Phone gets complety stuck(directly after boot) in the volume screen. Sometimes its flashes back to the normal screen but only for 1 second. Buttons still aren't working so can't do anything with my phone right now( not even the hard reset methode you told me).
Started to think that this is really some hardware issue. Can't remember that water got in my phone or the phone felt really hard. Any solutions maybe?
Otherwise I think I just go to the store.

One last thing you can try is a Task29 explained here.
Use your official rom (right click on .exe and extract the RUU_Signed.nbh and place in task29 folder, then connect device in Bootloader mode and run the Task29.exe. Follow the instructions in the link.
ok so i've been using it a bit but my battery was 70% last i checked. was playing around with throw and just opened youtube and the screen flickered a bit (black lines) then decided to go black completely.
nothing i do will make the screen do anything.
holding the power button for ages (usually the way to turn off/reboot a phone) doesnt do anything. the backlight is on as i can see that. but nothing is on the screen.
anyone got any ideas on how to force a shutdown/reboot on these?

IIRC the Xperia Z1 has a hard reset button under the sim flap, it's a small red button, give it a shot.
remove sim card and sd card and try again, if it's still not responding do an update repair using SUS or PCC
BTW there is a known fault with the XZU and it could also be on the Z1 as they use similar Firmware, what people have found is that the phone will start up eventually and then they go into the display setting and untick the auto backlight option and that fixes it
I also reboot my Z1in this way when it blackout.

Had the same issue called Sony, push hard reset button all is fine in the world. Known issue Sony is working on it

Managed to hard reset using power and up volume .
Put it on charge overnight but it doesn't see,m to have taken any charge at all....just trying again using diff PSU and cables but it doesn't want to charge. It recognises that I've out a cable in as I played with the smart connect setting. When it is off completely I get a red light (presumably meaning its charging ) but not in android
Any ideas?
Got it charging again by pushing the red button near sim slot for a couple seconds.
Just had another issue with SD card not being recognised after I removed another (/safely) had to reboot again using power plus vol up as it stuck on the shutdown logo when I tried to power down'...
Wow I can't believe the amount of issues I've ran into within 24hours of having this thing. I really don't know what to do...return it because it sounds like a faulty device (but all the issues are seemingly unrelated) or return and get another phone (is anyone else getting problems like I am?)
Sometimes phones have issues. I got one once that had no speakers or Mic inside... it happens lol
Try to go exchange it, and see if the next device gives you issues.. if not then you're good, if it does pick a different phone..
Do it soon though, most carriers only have a 14 day exchange period, and then after that will charge you all sorts of fees and try to fix your phone rather than just giving you a new one....

sounds like a similar problem I had with my 64gb SD card - as I mentioned above remove all cards then start from there - a reflash of the firmware might help also

Something happened to mine with Youtube too. I'd started a video and paused it on a frame for comparison with another screen. While I was setting the other phone up, the screen on Z1 timed out. I pressed power, the screen come on and flickered, then went black!
Power and both volume keys function the same as the red button under the flap. I wasn't able to reproduce the bug.

yeah i've been trying to reproduce it and failing to. very odd. maybe its something to do with the first time you use youtube and do something specific?
gunna phone o2 up tomorrow and see what they say about all my issues. seems to have been fine this last 24 hours though and in their eyes that is prob reason enough not to issue a replacement.
I've had mine since Monday and this happened to me yesterday. I was troubleshooting sending MMS with T-Mobile tech support (not a phone issue as it was happening on previous phones too) and had to restart the phone several times. I noticed upon restarting that the backlight seemed to be on but the phone was not booting up. Had to perform several hard resets (both with the red reset button as well as the power/volume up buttons) before it FINALLY rebooted and stayed on. While trying to figure this out I ran a Google search to see if others were having this problem. One solution was to make sure the backlight option is checked. I had been messing with settings the night before and must have unchecked it. Since I rechecked it I haven't had the same issue.
