I've been searching the whole forum today and others where I thought I would find an answer, but I still can't find anything that tells me where to look.
Of course, we know the search isn't so great here, but I may have not searched very thorougly, so I'm posting this here in case someone might know off the top of their head where to look.
I don't know if it's PIE or the AT&T proxy that's causing this, but I don't see the problem using Opera Mobile with the same connection. I'm using PIE+ 2.2 on IE, but I remember this occuring even before I installed the plug-in.
I've encountered some sites where IE will *seriously* compress the images and cause them to be very pixelated and distorted even in Desktop view.
I guess I could use Opera, but there's some limitations on it that PIE with "+" overcome.
Any ideas or suggestions?
its AT-T I wouldnt use the MediaNet that the Auto config sets you up with. I personally use the wap.cingular settings and have no issues what so ever

Can you still access MediaNet and Cingular Video with those settings? I was also having problems checking my AT&T Yahoo! IMAP accounts using "My ISP", but they work just fine with MediaNet...
And while we're on the subject: Anyone know why I can't access the mobile Bank of America site anymore? Can't get on it with either Opera or IE - It says that 'for security reasons my device can't acess Mobile Banking.'
I need access to a direct ftp port with the http://65988.0023.XXX style connection but I can't get access to it unless I am using WIFI? what setting can I change to stop this?
try disabling the proxy settings, sometimes bypassing your networks proxy settings will open up all sorts of options you where once blocked from accessing
how would I go about that? I didn't know I was behind proxy settings? And do I need them to access medianet?
in your connection settings go to manage existing connection, select proxy settings and untick the box that says this network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet and leave the box ticked that says this network connects tothe internet.
Ive disables my proxy settings for t-mobile Uk internet settings and now it connects alot faster and pages seem to be loading faster also
doesn't work... Darn this sux... I test it with www.msn.com and it still makes it pull up msn.mobile... how annyoing...
bump anyone have anything on this?
I would really appreciate help with this because I have to access a program that I can't otherwise.
If you're looking to hit an FTP site, then I'd grab an FTP client for WM and stop futzing with IE in the first place. Or am I misunderstanding what you're doing?
not it is not an ftp it is an http://112.2232.224:2324 type of site... that is all.
Don't know your carrier but here's a cab that disables the "hidden" proxy in AT&T and one that restores it. Worth a try?

YEAAAAAAAAAAA I don't know what happened... but since I installed your thing it works perfect. damn I was getting peaved... when I go to msn.com thought it still brings up msn.mobile though. Well at least I can go to anywebsite I want now.
Do I ever need to put the proxies back? I guess I should just put this on my card just in case.
Again, Thanks... What else am I able to do now?
In the Tilt, Internet Explorer's user agent string is locked to mobile internet, meaning that websites will see your device as a mobile device. If the site has a mobile site, it will automatically re-direct you to that. In WM5 devices, you could use software to change IE's user agent string to make it look like a desktop, but on the Tilt, you can't.
You'll need to get Opera Mobile if you want the internet to see your phone as a desktop.
I think for what your trying to do you need to use the MY ISP settings instead of medianet settings. But I don't know what they are anymore. I think you will also need the right data plan to use them.
does PIEPlus User Agent setting work with Tilt?

Is this true even if using PIEPlus? PIEPlus Tools>Options Plus>User Agent allows setting User Agent to IE 5.5 or IE 6.0 (which should be seen by websites as a regular computer) in addition to the default PIE setting (which is seen as mobile)

what is pie plus. First off, I tried using opera mobile desktop setting and when I went to www.msn.com it still comes up as mobile. Do I have to configure something further?
Lastly, I just told you all that the program for turning off the hidden proxies worked. So for what I was trying to do those programs the other person posted worked nicely. However, it still sucks that I can't bypass the mobile crap... There is a program called deepfish from microsoft that addresses the issue exactly, however the jerks won't let the beta out any further. I am gonna aaddress that issue in another post.
I believe the problem is something in the WM6 or the Tilt itself because Opera doesn't work either.
Boy I'm glad you guys worked on this. I upgraded to Tilt yesterday and was cracking my head against the wall trying to figure out why the HTTP addresses wouldn't resolve with the same settings I've been using in my 8525. @#$%#@ Hidden Proxy! lol
Cheers and Happy New Year!

Hi everyone,
i went to a 3store today to get a TYTN 2 on 3 network UK. I thought we could use the free skype minutes they offer on other handsets, but they said no, use the wifi!!!
I was wondering if anyone knows a way to connect to their skype service. Thanks
PS: Please include links to any software or recent methods you might know.
Hi, I'd also like to know if this possible. Have a 3 PAYG sim and get 30 days free skype when I pay for the internet add-on but cannot work out how to use the 3G network for my calls. Cheers
I think fring will do what you want.
The website says you can make skype calls.
www.fring.com "fring is based on a unique thin-client technology that for the first time enables true VoIP over 3G, GPRS and WiFi networks"
I installed it on my stock rom AT&T Tilt (Kaiser) but have not tested.
I hope that helps.

Thanks but i think for that you should have access to the internet. I can easily use the skype program instead. The problem is that skype is not the type of skype 3 network is using ( they use a java based program).
I read an article and someone had used the skype from a LG phones with 3 and Esmertec Jbed, but that was an Australian version. does anyone have a UK version?
This would rock if it is possible! Anyone know where to download a UK version?
I think we need to find someone with a non nokia phone from 3 UK, so he can give us the jar file. preferably LG
What do you think?
anyone from uk? or anyone knows a professional UK website? please
Anyone found this?
Can anyone with a TyTn II from the 3 network confirm if it comes with Planet 3 and Skype software installed?
I use Three...
Ah, you forgot to read the ultra-small fine print that states that the offer for *all* phones has expired and it's now only on *selected* handsets that seem to exclude the TyTN 2, also you can't get the sim-only and install the Three free Skype or Live Messenger on a non-Three phone+rom without some custom ROM hacking.
To make matters worse, if you get the £5 Unlimited Internet Access, the small print is that Three block Skype and Live Messenger so they can't be used (thought I think you can buy the £10 option that allows them?) - even if you want to pay for them outside the unlimited bundle. You can use IM+ BeejiveIM etc, to access Live Messenger though, and as far as I'm aware it seems to be included in the Unlimited access...
Oh, and if you want to access Planet3/My3 on your phone you can do so, but first you need to go into Advanced Config and change your "User Agent Custom Base" to "HTC_TyTN_II Mozilla/4.0" and then use the URL "http://mobile.three.co.uk/837_sc/index.do"
The Planet3/My3 will only work when accessing the page though the 3 connection and not WiFI or ActiveSync, but is acuttaly pritty nifty at checking you accound balance, tops ups, addons and such like.

Thanks a lot for the information you provided. Damn it, I made a big mistake as i could've got the Nokia N95 with Skype and Live Msg + unlimited internet for £5 cheaper every month...!
Hi guys,
This is a solution for the Skype on Three network issue. I had placed it on another forum (http://www.3g.co.uk/3GForum/showthread.php?p=385677) and one guy has reported it working, but apparently, it might not work with WM5, only with WM6. Please give it a whirl and let me know if it works for you.
Feedback is great for both me as well as others

I believe that I have succeeded in getting the native Iskoot WM6 client for Skype to connect to the Three/3 service. I am still testing it and would appreciate your feedback.
Steps
a) Download and install the Iskoot client for Windows Mobile 6 . Try the direct link here (http://www.iskoot.com/pc_download/Wi...1.54_WMpro.CAB)
b) After installation, start the application, but DO NOT sign in. Instead exit it. The reason for doing this is to create the default registry entries for Iskoot.
c) Now start your favourite registry editor (I personally use Resco Registry Editor, but you should be able to use any. Please do not ask me how to use the registry editor. This is not the appropraite forum.)
d) Head for the following location in the registry: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ISKOOT\SKYPE\DEVICE
e) Update all the following entries to the same value "http://mobile.three.co.uk/948" (do not include the "double quotes")
BackupHost
CallUrl
DefaultSkHost
Pushhost
f) Exit the registry editor of choice and start and log into Iskoot. This might take some time. It took me about five minutes.
It should now be configured to connect to the 3 Skype service. To cross-verify, check that the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ISKOOT\SKYPE\DEVICE\Cal lNumber has the value +447838333894 (the 3 Skype dial-out number). It should be automatically added by the software.
As I have mentioned earlier, I am still testing this. However, with this implementation, it should not use your included minutes, but the free Skype allocation. Please test the same and let us all know if that is the case or you have noticed that your inclusive minutes have been used up.
I do not know how to modify cabs. But if somebody can rebuild the original Iskoot cab with these settings built-in, that would be great.
I have noticed that the sound quality on this is considerably better as compared to the Skype Java client.

Thanks for the information. I tried it on my Hermes and it worked great.
Unfortunately, when I tried the same thing on my Kaiser, all I ever get is "Currently unable to connect".
I can't see why there would be any difference between the two phones, but the Hermes never fails and the Kaiser never succeeds!
Any suggestions?

For Windows Mobile 6.1, MS .net Framework 3.5 is required, otherwise, "Currently unable to connect" error might appear
SkypeOut is officially supported (if not, very soon) by 3UK,
http://www.skype.com/intl/en-gb/allfeatures/3skypephone/overseascalling/
with some restrictions (read the small print!)
I failed to get Skypein to work, however.
And Skypeout is a bit unstable at the moment, might be 3UK is upgrading their servers...

I think what some people did is to download a java version of the iskoot (for other non-WM phone) and decompiled the java class/jad file and find the URL string. I guess if you can somehow intercept the outgoing network traffic from a 3 customized iskoot client running on another phone (perhaps on a Symbian phone trying to communicate to the server via wifi, which wouldn't connect successfully I believe, but still let you), parse the network packet to find out its intended destination will do the trick too.

Thanks for the tip, but the problem is that the only phone with skype is the amoi 8512 (http://www.3skypephone.com/english/index.html have you ever seen it?) I do not have x-series with skype, but a specific offer wich works only with this phone. This phone does not have wifi, so I cannot sniff packet through network, and the iskoot client is not java, but specifically made for it (when I run it, the Java log does not apper), so I do not know how I could extract the url. The only thing I have done is to get its user agent to replace it on the Tytn II, the Amoi 8512 user agent is " Amoi 8512/R22.0 NF-Browser/3.3" without double quote, of course.

I was in your situation until a week ago when I found the 3 UK setting. It is so frustrating that I knew all it requires is a correct URL address yet I didn't know what it is!
What you may want to try is to first identify which X-series phone that 3 Italy support apart from the skypephone. And then change your Tytn II 's broswer agent string to one of those phone that use a JAVA iskoot client instead of a native client like Symbian client. Then use your phone browser to 3 ITA portal and try to download the iskoot (Skype) software. 3 ITA server should now think that you have a compatible phone so it will present you with the Java client. Once you go the .jar file, you can proceed to extract the URL from there...
I think people used SEW910I to get the 3 Australia client.
Try this for the Browser agent string:
SonyEricssonW910i/R1CA Browser/NetFront/3.4 Profile/MIDP-2.1 Configuration/CLDC-1.1
I tried the above suggestion myself to try to get the URL from 3 UK's client, but I can't remember why I stopped, and then later I found that the URL is already know on some other forums on the Internet...
Good luck!

I got mine from the marketplace, you might try this...
http://www.iskoot.com/register.php?device=NoDevice

ANy Screen shoot will be appreciated
iSkoot is a JAVA based Software or Native Android Application
Make sure you really need iskoot. It uses plan minutes by redirecting through a local phone number (ie, it uses your minute bucket). It's not the VOIP app that people think it is. It's a decent workaround for people with lots of minutes who use skype contacts regularly, though.
The local number thing may be why it wasn't included in the non-US marketplace, as it might not be configured for the UK yet. Stringing together hearsay from other forums, so I may be wrong.
I personally want iSkoot to be able to chat to my Skype contacts rather than call them.
So can anyone provide .apk for it? As it seems there's no way to get it for UK users.
Impossible to find
I tryied over the internet and even in my Android Market I cannot find iSkoot. Can someone please upload the native app for android?
An FYI, but I'm a UK T-Mobile customer currently in the US on an extended vacation.
I bought an unlocked US G1 on Ebay and put my UK T-Mobile SIM in it. Everything worked fine, except I too could not see iSkoot in the marketplace. I'm not data roaming, so I've been accessing the internet over WiFi.
When I got the phone, it came with a US T-Mobile SIM - I put this in the phone and even though the SIM is not connected to a plan, I could then see and download iSkoot from Marketplace over WiFi. In addition, when I replaced the UK SIM in the device and tried to use iSkoot, it worked - it even tried to dial a UK access number which is how I guess iSkoot uses plan minutes.
Therefore, it seems likely that Marketplace can "detect" your region from your SIM card and apply restrictions based on that.
I suggest that getting hold of one of these:
http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/Phones/Detail.aspx?class=prepaid&device=53299206-c069-429a-82fa-000007a2ac12
Might allow non-US users to have less restricted access to the Marketplace over WiFi.
Regards,
Dave

Looks like it's free software, that requires registration to work, so i don't see the harm in uploading the files. If someone knows of it being against the wishes of the software developer then just PM me. Thanks for checking.

Try to push several time space on your keyboard during the signing.
Anyone can help me to change inside the apk file the defaultSkypeHost=http://gw1.iskoot.com into defaultSkypeHost=http://skype.tre.it/p-iskoot ?
In this way i can use the Xseries minutes included in my H3g plan....
Thx for any help.
I'm looking to do the same when I get the time.
I think I found the line you're looking for in the res\raw\startup.properties file of the apk
You can view or extract the apk file using winrar or z-zip.
I used Microsoft office to view the file so I guess you could edit it.
You might have to resign the apk if you're successful with the editing it so check out the following thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=503007
Let me know how it goes?
Update:
Haven't yet tested to see if iskoot is using my 6000 free skype mins or not but my mod and install seemed to work. Give it a go and let me know if it works for you.
Steps:
Download the iskoot.apk from xda-dev
use winrar or 7-zip to extract the contents
use microsoft office word to edit the res\raw\startup.properties file of the apk
to replace the existing strings from
defaultSkypeHost=http://gw1.iskoot.com
backupHost=isk-bos-app2.iskoot.com
baseUrl=isk-bos-app2.iskoot.com
to the relevant ones, which can be found here
http://pastebin.com/f483b9120
for uk I amended them to
defaultSkypeHost=http://mobile.three.co.uk/948
backupHost=http://mobile.three.co.uk/948
baseUrl=http://mobile.three.co.uk/948
save as the original filetype if asked/prompted
Open the orginal iskoot.apk (not the extracted one) and delete the original startup.properties file then drop the modified one into its place
Delete the META-INF folder from the iskoot.apk before closing and saving
Download the autosign app from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=503007 and extract it
place your customised iskoot.apk into the auto-sign folder and run the .bat file. If you run into problems it might be because you have to change your windows folder options and untick "hide extensions for known filetypes" in the view tab (in windows xp). Then you can rename the file from .zip to .apk and the signing process should work.
Transfer the file to your Magic or G1 and install (I used astro filemanager and made sure I allowed the install non-market applications option)
I entered my skype settings into the phone and rebooted for good measure. Note it doesn't work over wifi so make sure that's off.
Test call worked a treat and a look at the call log showed an outgoing local number was used.
Just need to check my monthly bill now!?
I tried to change res\raw\startup.properties file of the apk but when i make a call trough iskoot i see that the number called is not the Xseries number but the generical iskoot local number for my nation.
I don't know if this happen because I first installed a normal iskott version then I uninstalled it and reinstalled the modified version.
Any other feedback?
Thx in advance.
Nice
I was one of few beta testers of this kind of app (made by Skype genuinely) for S40 phones (I had SE K750i) and it is very useful if you do not have an endless data plan want to get a hold on someone outside your country. Even if he/she is not in skype and is using an ordinary cellphone it still comes cheaper I think (the local call fee+skypeout credit)

I can confirm that doing this hack in the UK, does not make iskoot use the x-series number. I have been charged for my skype-to-skype calls.
Upon further investigation I have determined that it is dialing the wrong number. The number dialed was 442070431521, whereas the number that should be dialed is 447838333878. I cannot, however, find a way to make iskoot dial the desired number. Any thoughts?

Hi,
I'm wondering if I have the right number. You wouldn't happen to know where to look for these numbers, would you?
Hello everybody, I've just upgraded my kaiser to windows mobile 6.5, build 21202.
one of the many problems I've found is that I can't send mms, or go to internet... I've noticed that the usual program that sets the mobile operator did'nt launch itself on startup.
Does anybody know an issue?
maybe a link to download this program...
thank you if you find time to answer me.

Go to Start>Settings>Connections>Connection Setup
Set it to your Provider and Country manually. If it happens again set it up again and turn off auto config. Remember to restart.
As for your wireless go to
Start>Settings>Connections>Connections>Advanced>Select Networks
and make sure the correct provider for your internet is selected.
If you have a data plan I think (emphasis on think) it's Mi ISP or Medianet.
I hope that solves your problems, if that's it.
i'm afraid it doesn't change anything...
