Tilt usb modem drivers do not work on vista business. - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hello,
I have searched thoroughly on this site and I cannot find any help. I used to have vista ultimate and I down loaded the usb modem drivers and it worked like a charm. I had to re image my pc and now I have vista business. However now when I try to load the drivers they do now show up on the device list and it does not successfully install the modem. Am I missing something? is there an updated driver? Can anyone please help or point me to where I can get some help. I really need to get back on line. Thanks XDA

I have a suggestion which might work.
Look at your device manager and see if there is anything on there thats coming up as unidentified... if there is, and with the phone connected to activesync so the PC knows the phone is there (assuming activesync is working), delete those entries one by one and when you delete one you need to click *scan for hardware changes under the *actions menu.
If you didnt start from scratch with the PC - IE format the hard drive and rebuild the system - that may mean there is a corrupt version of the driver still floating about and causing problems. This is why in the places I have worked we always backed machines up - did a full format - and then either imaged or rebuilt the box manually.
Another option is to go online to the manufacturers support site for updated drivers and install them from a location you have saved them too to your hard drive..
From my experience dealing with recalcitrant USB devices I would think that the first issue is more likely.
However there is another possibility that may be the root of the problem. I know that different versions of Vista support different connectivity options and setups - aka Vista Basic doesnt do Active Directory or Domains (im dredging this up from memory so its a little hazy). There is the remote possibility that the Business version doesnt support phones as USB modems, although I would be very surprised if that was the case.
It does strike me as a little odd that you have gone from one version of the same OS to a different version of the same OS and have had this sort of problem... but then Microsoft are known for compatibility gremlins - two words - Windows ME
Hope that helped.

I know, it is very surprising to me that now it does not work on Vista Business. You would think that it is basically the same OS but with less features. It is the 32 bit version. Its driving me crazy because I depend on it to do my work from my laptop and it just does not populate the device name when browsing and selecting the drivers. It sees the device it just does not pupulate. When I try to do the right click and install it does install it but it still does not show up under modems. If any one else has more suggestions I will greatly appreciate it.

No need to panic fello xda members and friends. It is all good now...i am typing thins theteering from my laptop through my tilt. Thanks xda you are the best. The speed trough my tilt is faster than my 2wire at home....ftw.:d

Please read for this is no oridinary problem.....Unable to Activesync

I have AT&T 8925, live in United States, Run on a Dutty Rom and pretty much everything else is simple. No serious tweaking or reg hacks.
So Today, I go into work, plug in my PDA, and no sync. It is charging via the USB, but not syncing to Activesync. I need Activesync, it has all my contacts, appointments, etc etc. In the process of trying to troubleshoot this problem I have wiped my phone clean.
I have tried it all;
clearing storage on phone
deleting activesync off PC (4.5) and reinstalling, multiple times
Used Microsfts Troubleshooting guide
I have installed Activesync on three different PC's and all wont recognize the phone, as if its not there, but it does charge. I also have tried 3 different USB cords.
I don't know what to do, I even stumped the HTC troubleshooting tech guy. I also am screwed since if I send this phone back to AT&T under warranty to get a new one they will see the Dutty ROM and that will void my warranty. I would reinstall the original Windows/AT&T shipped Rom, but I cant get the Activesync up or don't know how to get a PC to recognize my PDA.
So.........I beg and plead, lend your advice for as long as this thread goes (hoping its in the right place) I will try your ideas, theories, and what nots.
IT seems like it would just be something so simple......is it? Where is my Data Connection.....
Thank you fellow XDA members for your time and assistance.

Do you get the "connecting" sound on the PC when you plug the device (same one you get when plugging any USB device)? If not I'd go for hardware fault on the phone's USB port... maybe one of the connector's solder points got ripped or whatever. That's if the port isn't fried altogether... Done anything special between the last time it worked and the first one it didn't?
This may be obvious...but did you restart your computer and hard reset your phone, then try? Im using vista and ive had no problems with any roms...so it just maybe a temporary problem.
Also test this while using the back USB ports, the front ports do not connect the same as the back ports do.
When my new Tilt's screen died an untimely death, I spent all day restoring all my goodies to the replacement Tilt. The next day, went to ActiveSync, and NOTHING! Charged, etc, but no connection. I did all the steps you tried and a few more.
Then, after wasting an entire evening, I found the solution!
Go to Connections>USB to PC, and uncheck 'Enable advanced network". Plug it and let 'er sync.

ahaha yea i thought graff had already checked the software so i didnt bother going into that
I suggest u try to search, there is a search option - type there something like "cannot conect to activesync" - there are milions of threads with this problem, unfortunately I dont know if there will be a solution for u. Just try that out and read.
This happened to me and I had to send my phone in to at&t. I know this probably wasn't what you wanted to hear. They sent me another phone and gave me 10 days from the day I received the new phone to send back the old. I also had the same rom as above I couldn't even flash it via sd card, so I sent it as was and haven't heard anything since. This was two months ago. The problem turned out to be with the mini usb port, it was warped like it got to hot or something. Maybe from using in car for gps I don't know. I hope this helps.
answers and bump
As for searching........always someone has to say it, "why dont you try the search option" - my friend, I am a google allstar and beleive in the forum searching till you can no more then post theory. Now saying that, I am willing to bet the answer to my problem is buried within a post in some thread with some fabric of the entire XDA forum. Finding it though can be harder than removing bubblegum from buckwheats hair.
So I have tried a hard reset for the PDA and the restarted my PC, several times.
...no go
I knew something was wrong when I lost the "ding" every time I hooked up the PDA via USB to my computer.
I had tried the unchecking the Enable Advanced Network before but did again and reset the phone with hopes of glory today. No glory.
I feel I have lost the phone and am ready to move on. Its just so friggen hard since it charges. How can it charge, and not stream data! I fried just the right parts of the mini USB? Blasted! So so so so disappointing because I felt I really had it nailed this time with the perfect radio, ROM, Dialer, programs, software, it all.....well maybe not radio, but my receptions suck all the time anyways and I live in Charlotte NC, a major US city with great AT&T coverage.
Now.....I am still open to any ideas and creative thoughts......but how do I get a the original WM6 Shipped ROM back on the phone? If I cant get any PC to recognize my PC via USB? I am calling in the warranty people today and not speaking of my Dutty, but having a new phone shipped. I just hope not to see a nasty bill come one month or two.
Thanks so far, well done XDA forum friends,

.....I am curious for you. Two months seems like your in the clear, but I hope not to jinx you. I have done the whole 10 days thing 6 times so far since the original purchase of my 8525 in August of 2007. Wasn't until the 5th time I complained and they offered me the 8925 as a replacement. The first five were all shipped back on time, with original ROM's and valid device malfunctions. Never have I been billed.....yet........

You are wise my friend. Thank you for the other software, I will try that. Funny thing about the PC, is I have tried three different PC's, all which it used to sync or try to sync with when I would just be charging. I would love to flash via SD card, but first I need the adapter for my computer, or track a friend down with a printer and correct slot. That might be done tonight. I am at work now trying to download the a rapidshare file of a shipped rom, free style, slow style, and prolly not going to work. But hey, its a learning experience.
Either way, my warranty is up in August, so I figure why not get one more nice new fresh 8925 before then. Ordered new one today, comes next week. I will still try and flash back to the shipped rom via SD tonight.

Diamond + Mac, howto? :-/

I'm starting to fear if something is broken in the phone because no matter what I do, it fails to work with mac osX..
Any suggestions on how to get eg. WmWifiRouter work in macs, or even how to sync it with some synchronizer application -because none of them fails to connect me whether it's BT or usb.
I think the right procedure is to launch eg. missing sync or syncmate what else are there? which is the most reliable?), then connect the usb-cable, then choose Activesync as connection type and that's it?
Doesnt work for me No matter whether 'enable advanced network' is on or off. The applications simply fail to detect my device.
If I choose the disk drive, it works for a while as an external drive but soon stops responding or turns helluva slow.. I've tried copying pictures and movies from it for months now (tried this every now and then), but I'm running clueless on what to do
What are the correct bluetooth settings in mac with diamond? I cant get it to work either.
I want to use it as proper high-end toy, I even have 1mbit wireless net in it when using it with WmWifiRouter, but even that doesnt work for me and I cant understand why Help pls
I use Missing Sync for Windows Mobile, and I connect to Bluetooth. It syncs seamlessly and transfer files without problems.
You can find the program and / or the information here
Another option is Sync Mate, it's free for Standard version but you can buy additional options (iTunes sync etc) in the Expert Edition.
http://mac.eltima.com/sync-mac.html
Prefer it to Missing Sync personally.....
Missingsync vs. Syncmate
I tried both and my suggestion is not to try it. Reason being if you use Missingsync, use missingsync only. If you use Syncmate, use syncmate only.
However, Missingsync is better due to its more stable system. Syncmate tends to double copy items in calendar and contacts. It'll be an annoying mess to clean. I did it and it's no fun when you have over 500 contacts in your phone.
Anyway, that's my recommendation.

Only had that issue with an early beta of Syncmate, never had that problem again.
I have an expert edition from Eltima (sponsored by Eltima for testing their beta's ).
I must admit that the software had some hickups when it still was a beta, but I nowadays it's running like clockwork.
My 2ct's (euro cts = 2.75 $cts )
I'm going crazy trying to figure out why syncmate won't sync with my phone. I installed the driver on my phone, yet it doesn't connect with the program. I open syncmate and it never recognizes I have a phone plugged in. I've followed syncmate's steps to no success. Does anybody know what to do?
I tried both for a season and found MissingSync to be a generation ahead. It's been out for quite sometime and is very stable. I had hard time syncing with Syncmate. I sync my device via BT and works like a champ. It's a bit expensive but well worth the price.
My gsm diamond is arriving soon and I'm trying to make sure everything will work with my macbook pro (OSX Leopard), so I've read up on syncing programs for mac and upgrading hard spl etc.
My problem is that all the files I've come across for upgrading hard spl and radio are in .exe format. Is it possible to upgrade using a mac or do I need a pc with xp/vista?
As far as I know syncMate/MissingSync can't read and open .exe
(I've searched ways of "opening the contents" of .exe using stuffit and file juicer with the possibility of a .cab file being inside but to no avail. I may be barking up the wrong tree with this one...)
Sorry I've been searching for aages but couldn't find an answer. Is there a solution to what seems like a fairly simple problem...??
You can sync your WM device with your mac as explained before.
To upgrade the ROM, you will need a Windows installation. Personally, I tried to do it through a virtual machine with WMWare but never succeeded (It seems that once the device reboot, it is not recognized anymore by the virtual machine)

Actually, i always upgrade using the Mac:
-take the signed_image.nbh and rename it to DAIMIMG.NBH
-connect the diamond as a disc
-copy the file to the internal storage
-flash by rebooting into bootloader (volume down& back plus reset)
Safe simple & fast!
I've got a MacBook Pro, and I've been working around a bunch of these issues. First, why are you trying to cable sync your WinMo phone? You are better off keeping everything in the cloud. I have an exchange server at work, so all my contacts, calendar events, and emails sync OTA.
Also, Google has a new beta out:
http://www.google.com/support/mobile/bin/answer.py?answer=138636&topic=14299
This lets you use your gmail account with Activesync if you don't have an exchange account. You can manage all your contacts, etc OTA for free. Much better than paying for wonky syncing software. Plus, when you flash your phone a million times, it's pretty easy to get everything back on
As far as flashing, you will need to flash from the bootloader from the internal memory if you don't use Boot Camp. Parallels won't cut it, either (not sure about VMWare); you have to be in windows for everything to work smoothly. However, it is nice that the Diamond can be put into mass storage mode; it makes copying files to the diamond a piece of cake.

The problem with that is that you have to delete everythin on the internal storage first. (I had to the last time)

Active Sync/USb disconnecting on regular basis

Hi All,
I have a strange problem with my Tilt. Whenever I connect my Tilt to my PC using USB cable, it gets disconnected regularly. I have to unplug and replug the USB cable to get the ActiveSync working.
I am using windows 6.1 ATT official ROM. I tried multiple cables and multiple PCs and same issue is there.
Does anyone having any clue or similar problem and solution for this.
Thanks in advance
[email protected]
Check the pings in the mini usb port to make sure they aren't bent.
It's possible that you have a program causing it, use a task manager to turn them off if you can.
I already checks all the strips(pings) in the mini usb....and mini usb cable also....
How do I identify if some program is causing it?
I have the following program running on my tilt
MobileShell.exe
device.exe
filesys.exe
voicecmd.exe
gwes.exe
cprog.exe
s2u2.exe
shell32.exe
services.exe
quickGPS.exe
repllog.exe
connmgr.exe
taskMge.exe
iLock2.exe
HTCIMSSvc.exe
AutoUpdate.exe
poutlook.exe
NK.exe
use task manager to turn them off one by one or in groups.

In the early days of my owning a TyTN II (HTC not AT&T Branded), I had this issue occuring often with my old PCs (via chipset USB 1.1 motherboards). Since updating the USB capability by addidng a decent NEC chipset based USB 2.0 PCI card, the connectivity problems vanished. Now I'm using an Intel DG45ID with USB 2.0 built in, the problem has never re-occurred. What are the ages / chipsets of these 'multiple PCs'? Have you tried connecting the Tilt to a newish PC?
I have a laptop not older than 2 years and it has intel 945 based chipset (which definetly support USB 2.0) and another PC on which I have tried also has 945 based chipset.
I think you are right, the issue is the USB ports. one of them showing an error when I pluging anything into this and I think other are not working properly too in my laptop but they are not showing an error.
However I tried different (other than I used) USB port in my Desktop and I do not see the issue.
Thanks for your help. We got the root cause but I dont know how to fix it in my laptop maybe usb port got the dust on it.

Those Intel 945 chipsets should definitely be able to cope with the USB demand alright. In time after installing lots of different USB devices through a given USB port, remnants of past driver associations etc can remain and it's often a good idea every now and again to perform a 'from the ground up' format and reinstal. If you have a recovery CDROM from the Laptop manufacturer (preumably this is what you're using as your main PC), then this will simplify things tremendously. Just make sure you back up all your important data before you commence the recovery operation.
I dont want to restart every thing I have lots of software and thing which will take ample of my time.
I am using Vista home premium, is there any way to clean up the driver related stuff.

I do understand as I've worked in IT in the past. You may find however that a restore/reinstall from scratch is the quickest way rather than going through looking for remnanats of files and unused registry entries to clear out. Its always a good idea to format your PCs HDD every so often anyway and usually the performance boost that comes with an efficient 'how it was meant to be' setup, helps to compensate for the time and effort it takes.

You could try using system recovery (I presume thats in Vista Home Premium, I don't have Vista myself), but I don't have much faith in such inbuilt recovery options. It'd also mean you need to know when to recover back to - the $64,000 question. You could also try uninstalling all the USB related things in device manager (with all USB devices unplugged at the time of course) and on restarting, the PC should pick them all up again (have your driver CDROMs on hand in case it doesn't). Personally, I'd just back up my data, get my software installation CDROMs ready and perform a full laptop system recovery using the manufacturers CDROM.

That should be the very last bit of advise to give out, and really I think thats very very bad advice.. Ah infact he claims that it happens on more then one computer, so it's a problem with the phone. I'm sure the "remnants" of drivers don't stay in the cable..
I tried multiple cables and multiple PCs and same issue is there.

No I haven't, however I too feel that it is the problem of the USB port or cable. I again tried on my desktop (with XP) on different ports (on board earliar I was trying with the front side USB ports) and seems to be fine, not showing and disconnecting issue. I do not know why there is a difference in usb ports.
My laptop with Vista still having an issue. One of the port even showing an error when I try to connect it.
It seems that the safe bet when syncing is to use XP.. I know that with notebooks the USB ports can be flakey because of power issues but that shouldn't be a big deal with a desktop.. Try your XP desktop and hopefully you'll have some good luck.
I'd like to say I've had this problem before, but I don't remember what I did to fix it.
I agree - well, with one point anyway

That's a good idea to try as well, a combination of both will almost certainly fix things. I guess my personal experience with this and the cause having been USB port related on the PCs (both with older VIA chipsets) led me in the direction of the PCs USB ports and everything surrounding them. You hit the nail on the head with with your comments about power issues on ports. I remember that one of the things which tended to bring on a disconnect in my last VIA chipset board was starting the TV Tuner up - the extra power consumed by the tuner put the rest of the chipset into a position where it simply couldn't cope with what Activesync was asking of it and the problem was 100% repeatable. I also found with that setup that I needed to disable Advanced Networking functionality on the phone or it wouldn't connect at all - although that didn't cause unreliable connections, it simply wouldn't connect with Advanced Networking Capability enabled. The newer USB port adapter card resolved all of these issues.
If [email protected] has lots of software installed on the PC, there may be lots on the phone as well so if thats the case, it'll mean a little work reinstalling cabs and reconfiguring there as well but I'm all for occasional cleanouts for restoring reliability and performance - the difference is often like night and day. Thanks for the additional positive idea among all the negatives.
Not able to connect to internet with Active sync
I don't know what is happening......now I am facing new issue.
I am able to connect to internet by Active sync on my vista laptop but its not working on XP desktop.
I have default connections in connection setting and I manually added for my ISP(Airtel).
I already tried deleting and resetting the sync settings, tried different setting on XP(Active Sync) but no use. Its working fine with Vista (WMDC).
Any help would be gratful.
Thanks.

I'm not sure what you want to connect to the internet - is it so you can have your Kaiser use your desktop PCs internet connection (what I suspect is the case) or the other way around (in which case internet connection sharing would come into play)?

If the problem is the former above, try changing the 'Automatic' in the Desktop Activesync 'This computer is connected to' section to 'The internet'. I had a WM 6.1 HTC ROM on my Kaiser for a while and this was the only way I could get it to connect (the WM 6.0 ROM works fine in this regard under Automatic). Not sure what you mean by manually added Airtel though. If thats also your landline ISP, I've never experienced a need to configure down to the level of specifying the ISPs name. The only ISP where names come into it in my experience is the one the phone is connected to over the air as the network of choice (Airtel going by your profile) and that should be fully set up using the HTC Configuration Wizard built into HTC TyTN II ROMs automatically a short while after it connects to the network for the first time (or after a hard reset). Is this not happening for you?

If you've tried the above config change in the XP machines Activesync settings, you could always try uninstalling and reinstalling Activesync 4.5 after you've backed up important data from the phone.

No, I have to manually add the configuration to connect to my ISP(Airtel) over the air (Edge). I know this nothing to do with active sync but I mentioned it here for the sake of the information.

Try disabling or removing any software firewall on the XP machine if it has any? Is the phone in the same state when you connect it via WMDC and this works as when you attempt the same through Activesync 4.5 and it doesn't? Did you end up doing the hard reset suggested?

Pc wont recognize captivate

I bought a Captivate with rogers on 2.1 update 1 today and when I connected it to my PC it wasn't recognized, installed the drivers and it's still stubborn. I booted into Ubuntu 10.10 and still same problem! I can't stand it it's driving me crazy! there's no reason why it should be doing this but I can't make it work!!! Please someone help I am really desperate
There are several reasons this could be happening. A search will come up with all of them. For me, it was the USB port on the computer. It didn't like the remote ports. Once I plugged into one of the ports directly off the MB, works everytime.
You might never get it to work
I've been reading these posts and trying suggestions since I got my Captivate back in August. I still have not been successful in getting any kind of reliable connection between a computer and my phone. This is my second phone and I have tried 5 different computers. One of the computers was tried with Win XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. Nothing seems to get me a reliable connection. I hope you have better luck. I get a wild hair every now and then and spend a few more pointless hours trying to make it work but to this point nothing is working. I've tried Kies, Kies mini, old drivers, new drivers, 32 bit drivers, 64 bit drivers, etc. NOTHING HAS WORKED. I've managed to be able to mount my drives and copy files occasionally but no kind of sync where anything is automated. Also I have found nothing that can get me any sort of contact or calendar sync with Outlook. My work prevents me from putting everything into Google mail and syncing that way so I'm just out of luck with a phone that ATT told me I could sync with Outlook. Maybe Froyo will fix this or else I have to wait my year until I'm eligible for an upgrade to get a phone that actually works properly (ie, non Samsung), although I have to wait for OTA Froyo since Kies won't be of any help in upgrading anything!
This is the best drivers i found to make it work on my Vista box.
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/MOBILES/Samsung/Samsung-Galaxy-S-USB-Driver-for-Windows-x86.shtml
The USB drivers from Samsung's website seem to be pretty bogus.
If the ones from the link above don't work you can go here - and download the USB drivers for your OS there. I have tested both and they work great on my computers.
And... if your running Vista - IMO That is Issue #1

LOL I refused to run it. For some reason my systems refused to run it and I always ended up going back to XP.
Now with Windows 7 - I think Microshaft got it right (as close as they can) and its what Vista should have been to begin with

This may seem obvious, but I didn't see it mentioned here. Do you have USB debugging checked? I remember having that issue back in July, when I was just a little noob

Usb debug is only for adb to work. You can still mount/detect the phone without it. Windows should detect it as a usb mass storage .

Thanks for the response. I've had debugging turned on and off. Neither seemed to make much difference. I did find one interesting thing the other day though. I uninstalled all Samsung software and drivers. Before I tried any kind of reload I used a registry cleaner to clear out any remnants. It seemed to act a lot differently when I reloaded things and I actually managed to sync my calendar and Contact List although not with Kies or any Samsung software. I used a program called MyPhoneExplorer. It takes a while to figure out but seems to work well if you have a decent phone-computer connection. It only worked once though and the next time I plugged back in there is no connection. There was a time when I was hopeful that Froyo would fix this but now I'm doubtful that the Captivate will ever get Froyo, at least from Samsung or AT&T.
I totally do not understand this phone when connecting to my PC. I am sooo sick of this thing not being recognized and trying to connect with Kies!!! I would run better odds playing Russian Roulette at being the big winner!! What other options do we have to get our phone to connect so we can load an unload our media. I dont have the space to load my whole library and wouldnt want to wait the years it would take to load it :|
I can't connect my Captivate to my Windows PC or Ubuntu through the USB cable that came with the device. I think it's the cable that's short circuited resulting in no connection so I will get a cable asap. My temp solution was an 8GB microSD but even now i tried rooting with the update.zip file and I had no luck I don't really care if my phone connects to the computer as long i have a microSD card reader and rom manager too bad for my 16GB memory but I can't even root! I hope they fix the update.zip file. This phone has killer hardware. It's such a shame how it's being brought down...

Have you tried connecting to a USB port right off the MB? I know my remote USB ports would charge the phone but were flaky when trying to connect to my computer. Moving to the MB USB port fixed all my problems. Connects everytime now.
Well I only have a laptop and I tried all the ports...
If you truly think the USB cable is bad - then I would suggest going back to your retailer your purchased it from and get another one.
Also - if you want to ROOT your phone - you should still be able to. I would download the CLShortFuse's 1 Click Root application. Then you can copy the update.zip from inside that application's folder and copy it to your internal SDCard like you have been doing then flash as normal.
It will not include SU or Busybox I think though - or enable sideloading of applications. You will still need to d/l ROM Manager and get busybox that way.
I wouldn't recommend flashing ROMS to your phone until you can get it to recognize though. Please tell me you haven't installed kies? And I would go to the Q&A sticky - it has the 1-click root app as well as the USB drivers I recommend installing to have your phone recognized.
I install the usb drivers for xp and never had an issue with 2 home laptops and 2 work laptops. Wife's windows 7 machine i did not even have to install drivers and it recognized it without issue. Make sure you are using the cable that came with the phone as i have had issues with other micro usb cords that did not come with the phone.

I tried the USB drivers you posted on another PC and USB cable and it worked like a charm!
Thanks alot!
If all you want to do is copy media you can get by without Kies I believe. All you should need is a proper driver setup for your computer. Once drivers are loaded and recognizing the phone all that should be left is to mount the drives on the phone. Just be sure to have the phone in "Mass Storage" mode instead of "Kies" mode. I can't get Kies to work for me but from what I understand the only real benefit of that is for doing upgrades, I might be wrong though since it doesn't work at all for me.

Exactly I've read on Engadget that 2.2 finally came to Canada but kies won't work for me either all I want is to root my god damn phone on 2.1 update 1 to get the gingerbread ROM from supercurio as soon as it's stable but I can't even root

Looking for some info on drivers!

hi guys, ive got a quick question for you.
When you put the device in to flashing mode (the black screen with the wee USB cable plugging in to the PC)
what driver is installed? when in that mode you should see a different USB device im guessing something like HD7 or perhaps its code name.
anyhow, if someone tell me that i would be very aprechiative, also if you can tell me which driver set its installed from, for instance, OEM11.inf or perhaps a zune driver set.
use device manager, it could be under portable devices or USB devices or windows phone devices, right click on it and go to properties, then details , im looking for the matching device ID, inf name, inf section, included infs
thanks for your time folks!
I don't have all the driver info, but I know it lists the device as "HTC Shubert."

well thats a start, cheers mate! amazing how 60 odd folk looked at this an didnt want to help, your an example to them all!
thanks again
Perhaps i can find the rest of the info trawling through google using that as a start, but if anyone can provide the INF details and device ID it would make my life that much easier!
was that definitely the name for the device as listed in device manager when the device was in update mode? Im finding info for that as the overall device name but not the friendly name, the friendly name is HD7 which is what would be listed in device manager and is listed when the device is connected to the computer in normal mode.
Basically what im looking in to is what exactly is happening when the HD2 is updated, it obviously doesnt work, im looking to find out exactly why that is.
when the HD2 is made to look like an HD7 it works fine and is listed as an HD7 in device manager, but the moment it goes in to update mode it changes back to a LEO device
Obviously this might not be the whole reason it doesnt work but if i can find out what driver is installed for the update mode with the HD7 i can fiddle with the device IDs in the driver inf file and force that to be used instead of the leo drivers. Now that wont work by its self i dont think but its one less thing that might be behind it not updating.
if that doesnt work than the next step is to compare the registery for both devices, but one thing at a time, and the driver issue is possibly the easiest to fix.
Bit weird here !
Hi
I've been having problems with the 801812c error.
After reading about updating the drivers using device manager, and doing so, (my device was listed as HD7) i found nothing changed and I still couldn't update, so I deleted the drivers, and then re downloaded them.
Suddenly I had loads more drivers, and my device is now listed as Windows Phone 7.
Still won't update though !
Sorry, just my tuppence worth.
Garrickus
sorry, say that again, your HD2 which is normally listed as HD7 or whatever you called it in zune, which in flashing mode is listed as a LEO?
so you updated the LEO driver and got it to use a HD7 driver?
so now in flashing mode its listed in device manager as a HD7 and it doesnt update still?
so putting all that aside you uninstalled the HD7 driver? then when you installed it again windows installed it as a windows phone?
again, this is all in the updating mode? in normal operations you will see a windows phone device and the HD7 device.
or are you using a native HD7? and i got that all wrong?
if you do have an HD7, put it in to flashing mode without the cable attached, turn off the device, then hold down the power button and the camera button, when the device turns on let go of the power button and keep holding the camera button, that should put it in to flash mode.
then in device manager check out what device is listed when you connect it to a USB cable, if you plug it in after you load device manager you iwll see which one pops up. then if you wouldnt mind going to properties and look for the info i asked above?
if you do have a HD7 and are having issues updating try this out
Windows phone support tool
and
ChevronWP7.Updater
install the first one which gives you a guide to updating and the second one does all the updating out of zune by its self.,
comes in two flavours, 32bit and 64,
My phone is updateing now, Here ya go!

Apparently I'm a noob and can't post img links yet, so you can go look yourself, just add the http header to each of the above to make them into links.
cheers, so thats using the zune drive pack, now if anyone has the device ID from the details tab?
i think im running in to a rock on this, bloody LEO keeps getting installed no matter what i do, im starting to think that the update mode must have its own registery or at least a protected section thats identifying it, because no matter what i do i cant keep LEO away, which is intresting because its not apart of the zune driver, its a windows mobile driver.... so where it keeps coming from i dont know
When i put my device into bootloader mode and connect it to the pc, Qualcomm Technologies MSM Windows driver was the one that got downloaded. Also, what OS are you running? you need to download windows mobile device center if you're on vista.Windows 7 should install that driver by default. Anyways, my hardware id listed when connected to zune is :
USB\VID_045E&PID_04EC&REV_0000&MI_00
USB\VID_045E&PID_04EC&MI_00
Also, if you're on xp, get the driver from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=408105 , its in the 10th post..
cheers for that, i shall check that out tonight, i had a small amount of progress last night, i have been able to perminantely change the driver installed to a windows phone driver, although its still called LEO for some odd reason, but anyway, so instead of a invaid registry error i now get a timed out error.
So im assuming the driver ive chosen wasnt correct, with out a hardware ID of a HD7 in update mode it gets quite difficult, however ill have a look through that driver you poster a link too, im on win 7 but even if i can locate the ID from that file i may be able to find a working complete driver set i can use.
