Hi, ive tryed using the stock bootscreen update.zip, and it installs but it still doesnt get rid of the orange logo..
ive had a look in the system/media/bootscreen folder and its not got the orange logo in it...but then i found in the system/media folder that there is bootscreen files :
boot_bg.gif
boot.gif
boot2.gif
Orange.gif
boot.mp3
boot_animation.xml
so im guessing my hero isnt using the system/media/bootscreen folder for the bootscreen..and orange has changed it to just system/media..
so anyways what im looking for is someone with the knowledge of signing update.gifs to create one for me using the system/media folder instead of the system/media/bootscreen folder
or even help on how to make it myself?
thanks
Andrew
Sounds like you'll need to flash the SPL as that's where that logo is stored IIRC.
See http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero-hero-modaco-com/296389/24-nov-unlocked-spl-for-gsm-hero/ for GSM HERO ONLY!!
Be careful, as this can brick your phone if not done correctly...
you're talking about the splashscreen, not the bootscreen. as stated the splashscreen can only be changed through the hacked spl.

ok so what your saying is that orange has disabled the bootscreen. and only the splashscreen is shown. so no matter what bootscreen updates i do they wont work untill the splashscreen is changed?
i just dont know why they would use the same files one folder above the correct location.
Not quite. They are 2 separate things.
I've got a T-Mobile G2 (Hero branded by T-Mobile). I get a T-Mobile splash screen, then an HTC bootscreen (with the little 'android guys' popping their heads up). I could remove the T-Mobile one by flashing the SPL, and I can change the HTC one using those bootscreen files you mentioned.
See http://android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero-hero-modaco-com/296389/24-nov-unlocked-spl-for-gsm-hero/ again for more info...

Well the orange branded one i have is different from your t-mobile one.. because as ive stated in the 1st post
i have tryed changing the bootscreen to something else just tryed ( Nexus One/ showthread.php?t=605188) and it doesnt change at all it just stays with the orange logo then hero then htc.
So on my Orange Hero they must have changed the bootscreen directory to just system/media/ and NOT system/media/bootscreen.
in my system/media/bootscreen/boot_animation.xml is
Code:
<BootConfiguration>
<BootAnimation
image="/system/media/bootscreen/boot1.gif"
image2="/system/media/bootscreen/boot2.gif"
loopimage="/system/media/bootscreen/boot2.gif"
image_bg="/system/media/bootscreen/boot_bg.gif"
audio="/system/media/bootscreen/boot.mp3"
screenX="0"
screenY="90"
useAudio="0"
/>
</BootConfiguration>
which is correct after installing the Nexus bootscreen update i also checked the images they are correct too.
but in the system/media/boot_animation.xml is
Code:
<BootConfiguration>
<BootAnimation
image="/system/media/Orange.gif"
image2="/system/media/boot_bg.gif"
image3="/system/media/boot.gif"
loopimage="/system/media/boot2.gif"
image_bg="/system/media/boot_bg.gif"
audio="/system/media/boot.mp3"
screenX="10"
screenY="180"
useAudio="1"
/>
</BootConfiguration>
as you can see this is the one thats still active because its still got the Orange.gif
... is there anyway that i could make the bootscreen update.zip use that folder instead.. so i can change that boot_animation.xml..
strange first orange hero to have a splashscreen, orange only implimented a bootscreen, this is the first I've heard of an orange splashscreen, when did you buy your phone?
I too have a UK Orange phone with the latest Orange ROM and I have never seen an Orange splashscreen - it is all HTC and android. Have you got the latest official Orange ROM from the HTC site?
i bought it ... last summer july or august i think.. its still got the original rom from its release 1.5 with build 1.76.61.3 146733 CL#46012 Release Keys.
it must be one of the 1st ones because i managed to unlock it with the code.. my friend has a hero from the same shop a month or two later and it wont unlock.
Try flashing the latest Orange Rom, which can be dowloaded from HTC's website here. It is version 2.73.61.5. HTC provide full instructions and it won't affect your warranty.
That is the ROM I have and, as I say, it has no Orange branding as far as i can see, other than a few bookmarks on the browser. But it is difficult to unlock - but that should not be a problem to you I guess as yours in now unlocked.
ok just an update.. i have managed to remove the orange bootscreen... Which WAS a bootscreen NOT a Splashscreen that someone with G2 said it was.. Orange must not be as smart with andriod unlike t-mobile.
and i never used the Hacked SPL
Heres how i did it.. using the system recovery (cyanogen mod v1.4+JF) i installed and update.zip version of the Stock HTC Generic 2.73.405.66 Rooted ROM from (android.modaco.com/content/htc-hero-hero-modaco-com/291942/22-jan-stock-roms-radios-in-update-zip-format-for-gsm-hero/)
after this finished ive got a HTC Hero from orange without the branding and also updated a bit...
hope this helps

Ok Friends, you hate the T Mobile Operator Splash Image ? I too.
It looks like http://img9.imagepile.net/img9/25963wm6_default.png
Flash with RUU NoId the nk.nbf file.
It remove only your Operator Image not your OS !
Have Fun
Let me know if you have better Images.

Doesn't work for me, but thanks anyway
When I try this it comes up with ERROR [300] INVALID UPDATE TOOL
I have used lokwiz to CID unlock and SIM unlock but I still get this error.
Is there any way to apply this to my device?
Thanks

I set him in Bootloader Moder and run the RUU, it takes a few seconds and the new Operator Logo is flashed.

have i understood this correctly?
does the image: http://img9.imagepile.net/img9/25963wm6_default.png become the operator logo instead of standard t-mobile logo, before wm5 or wm6 splashscreen come up?
and also no changes to OS are made - be that wm5 or wm6?
thanks for clarifying

Yes, when you SoftReset it comes the new Logo, than Ipl,Spl.... and than the Windows Logo, but the stupid white T Mobile Logo is gone - forever ;-)
And there are no changes about your ROM, no Hard Reset !
It replaces only the Operator Logo.

you will have to download the splash from internet, or someone could upload it to you, or... you could just perform a HR

Hi, two questions.
1. Does this work when the phone is CID locked? my ipl and spl is 2.06 and can't unlock CID with lokiwiz which only works with 1.xx, and can't flash old ROM bacause most roms say upgrade only and the only one that i found that does not check this, crashes in Vista...
2. And also, I've had lots of problems running different RUUs on Vista (they crash). Do you know if this one does?
Thanks for your help.
Oh, and I have really cool Prince of Persia flash images. Attaching if anyone wants.

Finally it works!
Right, I have no idea why this has worked but it has. I have been trying to get rid of the TMobile logo for ages and I always get the Error 300 get a new update utility error.
What seems to have worked it applying the Radio rom update first (from Pedro12 - http://www4.turboshare.de/v/454059/X...61.21.rar.html) and then applying it.
I did this by replacing the nk.nbf rado file with the one from the splashscreen zip. I now no longer have TMobile on my phone, EVER! Thanks to the people in the community helping us to get the most out of these phones.
I think my phone is CID locked and yet am running WM6 (2.5) and no TMobile splash screen! I just now need to get a life....(!)
Fantastic! works first time! using latest Charmer WM6 ROM

Not better, but ... different. Could you do a version with just a black background, no image?
Cool.
OK, I dont know how I managed to do this. But I have a rogers dream and here is what happened.
I rooted it, no problems.
Used it for a few days, great.
Saw a fellow with a dream theme that I wanted to install, so I applied the update.zip. Ooops! Not it won't boot past htc display.
Try wipe data from recovery and reload. Now wont boot past Rogers flash screen.
found what I thought was a Rogers Firmware dump/restore. Flashed it, OH OH Now I have a fully T-Mo G1 branded dream without 3G.
Got it up and running now, on that firmware. But I need to do 2 things:
No root. all the "tenetd"ing is not doing anything, I run commands and when I try to get to recovery I get and explanation point and phone image. (I do have R29)
No Rogers original DREAIMG.nbh with the radio.
HELP! I want to get this phone to the beginning and I am at a loss. Usually I would get rogers to replace, but the boot screen now has the T-Mo G1 boot. So that wont work.
I'm used to flashing WinMo left right and center. but I'm almost admitting defeat!

Thanks, got this thing rooted now. It's just a matter of getting the Rogers DREAIMG.NBH
I can now flash a roger custom rom, its the radio that needs to be put back because of the 850/1900 3G bands as opposed to the 1700 that this radio is looking for.

So your saying it's possible to run 3G on the Rogers network with a T-Mobile G1?
That's extremely odd because I flashed my T-Mobile G1 with a Rogers radio and I now have a $400 brick and a new Rogers dream lol. So I wouldn't try it until we find a way to unbrick these damn things....
Other way around. I have a Rogers G1 (850/1900 3G) and accidentally flashed it with TMo G1 V1.0 firmware. I thought it war Rogers Original, not Original as in first ever!
Anyway, got the radio from another Post, but I can not flash ANY rom and have it boot past the 2nd splash screen.
I now have a custom restore, fast boot, even a splash screen. But the only combo that makes this thing functional is to:
Flash with Dream RC29 DREAIMG.NBH
Install telnet and root it
Update the radio rom.
Boom, have 1.0 with 3G on Rogers! But that means I dont have all the cupcake updates (A2DP, Exchange, Video, etc etc)
And all because I wanted a bloody theme!
ALMOST makes me miss jailbreaking iPhones and loading custom WinMo! Almost!

So what's the problem then? You have RC29 + root, just install proper radio, bootloader, and custom firmware (in that order) from the rogers root thread. YOU'RE PRACTICALLY DONE! The radio firmware HAS NO EFFECT on the available 3G bands.
got it firgured
Your right, I loaded the latest radio, cyan's recovery, Spl 1.33, oem updated radio, and now running the palm pre-like theme (been through soooo many getting this running, I forget who wrote this one. Props to you). And now I'm typing from my restored dream.
Apologies if I sounded ignorant. But I have never played with this system or unix. I only installed and tried ubuntu 6 months ago and gave up. But a little trial and error and I'm getting there.
My final recovery procedure! Thank you for everyones help with their efforts on each part. And to allow me to create this frankenstien software bundle.
This is a summery, if someone wants me to write up a detailed how to let me know.
Root rogers original rom
Re-flash dreaimg.nbh from g1
When you boot up, you will only have edge. That's ok for now. Once your at the sign in screen. Hit menu, add apn. Now you can edit an existing or create new. Rogers settings : name: rogers. Apn: internet.com. username: wapuser1. Password: wap. Fido. Name: fido. Apn: internet.fido.ca. username & password are both fido. Set this as your default connection.
After you set up you account, download and install telnet from market. After this reboot (don't know if necessary, but it worked for me)
Follow the rooting instructions for the original G1. Not the rogers one.
Once done, go to the htc website and install/update to the latest radio. When you boot, you now have 3G!
Now update spl
Update recovery to cyan's
Now you can install any rom for the g1. As long as you do a wipe before! Very important. No rom has booted if this wasn't done before applying the update.zip, and everytime I had to start again.
This will change your splash screen to the TMo one, and I have not found the rogers original one. So if you do this, rogers will imediately know when you need warranty exchanges done. So I take no responsibility. It worked for me on mine, I won't promise it'll work on yours.
Oh, before I had started I did a nandroid back up. But everytime I tried to restore it, it would stop the boot at the first splash screen. So you can, but don't think it'll work for going back. Sorry.
Rogers original splash screen
From the HTC dream
I don't think it will kill your phone... but don't blame me
I just got it from a nandroid backup.
me2
I have a similar situation:
I accidentally installed RC29 on my Rogers HTC Dream. I can tell when put a DREAIMG.NBH on the MicroSD card that it is trying to load it (when I boot to the Rainbow boot screen it first reads: "loading...", then it says: "Checking..." and finally: "Not Allow"). If I don't have a DREAMIMG.NBH file on the card it doesn't do that.
So, I'm guessing that what I need to do is find a DREAIMG.NBH that my phone WILL allow (or some other file that I don't know about - I've tried update.zip, boot.img and recovery.img and the "loading..." message just flicks on and off quickly). Could someone PLEASE tell me what I need to do to fix my issue?
Also, I can't boot the OS. I get to the welcome/setup screen but it won't let me proceed because it can't connect to the network to login to my Google account. So currently I can't boot either.

Attached is the orginal splash screen which I've extracted from the Original ROM.
You'll need Olinex HardSPL to flash.

Make sure you have HardSPL installed to your phone prior to flashing the splashscreen.
If you already have, you can also put your device in bootloader mode, plug the device to your PC via the USB. Wait until the on-screen sign change from 'Serial' to 'uSB' and run the RUU.exe.
Thanks SJ.
I just flashed in the stock HTC splash screen. However, I still get the screen (tMobile) where all the pink words come together to form the pink square (stick together logo). Is there a download out there to replace this?
Also, on the initial screen, where it shows the red lettering in the bottom right hand corner, can this be taken off somehow?
Thanks in advance,
Chris
hi...i recently hard spl my touch pro 2 by tmobile with a hard spl meant for the sprint and att version of the phone...flash the Energy Rom, and now i cant get the "Toch Pro 2" splahscreen off...its the 1st splashscreen....anybody have any ideas on how to fix my problem? also, i heard if i flashed the hardspl again, it would clear the slashscreen, but i cant find the proper hardspl for the Us Tmobile version
you shouldn't have flashed the HardSPL for Sprint on your T-Mo TP2. Sprint is CDMA, T-Mo is GSM. flash this HardSPL:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550131
sorry about that
oh..im sorry..but that is the hardspl i flashed...i get a startup screen that says "Touch pro 2", which isnt on the tmobile us version
i think its the Energy Rom startup screen that i cant get rid of...i should of never tried 2 flash such an expensive piece of plastic
If you want to replace the initial boot screen (the first one with the red writing on it), find the TMobile splash screen in whatever image format, and follow the directions here. But FYI, it's not bad/harmful or anything to have that different boot screen, that's perfectly normal with most ROMs here. Anyway, hope that helps
The easiest way to return your "stick together" splashscreen is to install the tmo test shipped rom
http://xda.caspersworld.co.uk/Downl...31.2_Radio_Rhodium_3.44.25.17_Signed_Test.exe
that will return the splash screen to normal and the radio will be the closest thing to final shipped rom
then flash cdguider's rom which is a rebuild of the original
http://xda.caspersworld.co.uk/Downloads/Rhodium/cdguider_TMOUS_Shipped_Rom_1.20.531.4.rar
that should return your rom to normal.
thanks! that did the trick, ur awesome

Well i just pulled the files for you...
In the .zip u will find the relevant files (originals), you can push them to the media\bootscreen
Hope you find it useful

that's not the splash screen, it's just the boot screen.. There's a big difference .
Splash Screen = first Bootscreen
Boot Screen = second Bootscreen
the splash screen has the format *.rgb555 or something like that...

back 2 topic, does anyone have got the original htc hero splashscreen? . thanks.
Default splash attached in png & zipped rgb565 formats. Do note however the latter won't be bitwise identical to the default splash, as I couldn't rip it directly (that needs a custom kernel mod). Appearance wise it is very close; iirc, it's an edit of one of the frames from the default boot animation.
Looks legit, cauli.
I have to say, the Hero splash logo has to the best stock one of them all. I am still satisfied with it to this day. No carrier or manufacturer (or ROM chef!) branding. Just a cool name, in a cool font.
Boom.
Howdy guys,
Im interested in also getting these screens but kinda lost howto. I searched for the media/bootscreen but it seems not to exist on my device. Tried it with adb.
What's the exact way to complete this?
Any help is appreciated.
Cheers,
Ivar

You're possibly mixing up how to modify the initial static boot image & the following boot animation.
For the latter you need to replace some files in the rom, location & structure depending on the android version. Try this google.
For the former, you need to have an unlocked spl on your device. This will enable you to flash the splash screen. To create your own image you'll need it in rgb565 format. There are a few tools to do this; I use rgb565converter.
Is this the one with the little green robot coming from the Hero logo or just the static Hero writing?
EDIT: If anyone's wondering here is the one with the robot forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=699259
