How to backup ROM?

Is there a utility to do this? Does it backup onto SD card?

Anyone got any backed up roms I can use?
My Vario is locking up at the spash screen and I read somewhere here that if you ntrw back onto the sd card a rom image it should fix it.
Problem is I didn't back up my rom before i started to play!

Hmmm, without wanting to state the obvious why don't you just flash the latest T-Mobile ROM onto your device? There are several options from T-Mobile linked in recent threads.
All you really need to do is get the device into the bootloader (the bootloader can be entered by holding the "Camera" button while resetting) then run the suitable ROM upgrade on a PC with the Vario attached.
No need to mess with unlocking, CID issues, custom ROM's and the like just to get the device up and going again .
This is assuming that you have mangled the OS like your post suggests (and it's getting past the 1st splash suggesting the bootloader is still in tact).

I have flashed it with about 5-6 different roms from the ftp site but none get past the spash screen .. I read the following post http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?p=227676&highlight=format+failed#227676 and hence my need for a backup sd version.

I assume you have no problems flashing from the boot loader then just geting the flash to work?

Cool, so the iMate ARU2 ROM. Let me see if I can't cook up a ROM with no bootloader (so we don't make things worse) and give that a try.
Just to confirm is it the ROM info splash it locks on or the Windows Mobile splash (i.e. does it really boot the OS then bale or just freeze init'ing the OS.

It fails at the Imate screen .. never gets to the os. I presume it failing somehow loading that up.

Hi Mate, Any joy?

All fixed now. I copied a friends wizard to sd using the procedure in the link above and then dumped that image onto my wizard.
Sorted now .. phew .. balls can drop back into place now!

I SOLVED MY PROBLEM WITHOUT SD CARD BACKUP
i found one sd card backup from another kjam but when tried to load that dump on my phone it gave an error ( update not allow) so finally i downloaded the custom rom file from ftp site and loaded into phone which let me past the boot screen and then i used lockwiz method to unlock cid. Now i can upgrade to any latest rom. I ve downloaded one from ftp and my mobile is working fine now but with one problem which i think is some harware issue.
when i put my mobile on charging it just hangs there and when i remove the charger the screen gets white and my mobile reboots.
can someone tell me how to solve this problem?

Please HELP ME!! upgrade from bootloader

Hello, I've tried to upgrade my Qtek 9100 G3, the flashing finishing with success, but when I start the phone it doesn't load windows, I can see the splash screen, and then the screen become completely white.
I follow the faria instruction, and tried to install the wizard love ROM from bootloader screen, but I have error 300, "Strumento di aggiornamento non valido" that in english mean Update device not good..
Please, help me!!

1.- I don´t think you have a G3 because de IPL/SPL you posted, but is very strange that Wizard Love RUU reported such error in a G4
2.- What kind of upgrade you wanted to do?
3.- Reflash your original ROM if you have it available.

Yes, I have a G4 phone, you can see on my sign, but my friend with the phone broken have a G3, and now he can install any kind of rom, the important it's that it works.

So.... problem solved?

No he don't solved the problem, with any kind of ROM he's tring to install he get the same problem "error 300": invalid upgrade Tool!!

This is WRONG... PLEASE Don't post information like this unless you are positive of what you are saying as this could cause people to brick their phones.
Its explained in numerous places how to determine this, but this post is one of the best for overall information on determining your phone type and how to flash and recover from flash issues:

Mine is a G4 (2.25.001) The trailing 0001 is what so far has identified a G4

when I was first trying to flash my phone I read anything 2.21 and above was a G4... so perhaps I READ the wrong information.

Could you provide the specifics of your friend´s phone?
* IPL / SPL (Current and original)
* Original ROM
* What ROM he was flashing when he got for the first time the white screen?

The brick phone is a G3 with 2.26 IPL and SPL, from the T-mobile ROM. He brick the phone installing the prekitchen ROM from Faria.
Now Following the faria instruction, he would like to flash with wizard love rom, but he get the wrong update tool error. Did you know if there are some other possible solution?
In booloader mode, when I connect to the usb, in the phone screen appear USB, so I think that the phone it's not completely gone.

You´re right, if you have the tricolor screen and USB connection you´re safe, no worries!!! We can save it!
Have you tried the original T-Mobile? This one should do it, if you don´t succeed with the original ROM you may try Wizard Love but you have to use the right RUU, in this case pull de nk.nbf file from the Wizard Love and put it into the folder were the original T-Mobile RUU is (this would replace the original T-Mobile nk.nbf with the one from Wizard Love), then execute the original T-Mobile RUU with the new nk.nbf of course your Wizard connected to the PC, remove miniSD card (if any) and make sure you dissable the activesync connection

So, I extract the T-mobile, and launch the RUU directly, using the t-mobile nk.nbf, and not the wizard love one.
Now I'm flashing!!!!

I tried reflashing my IMATE KJAM to WM6
The process went till 35% and then got disconnected.
Now its stcuk on the Bootloader Screen(Three colors screen)
Tried the Hard Reset(comm mann+voice button+reset)
It doesnt do a hard reset, the same screen flashes back again.
Tried reflashing i get the Error 300
The previous ROm was crossbow underground edition.
Please help and let me know whats next that i can do.

You know what the totally histerical thing about this is? This is the exact same reason I made my first post. LOL.
Alright I'm gonna try to help you seeing as how it doesn't look like too many others are looking here.
I have several questions first before I can help you.
1. Who is your wireless service provider? IE: T-Mobile, Cingular, Etc...
2. What Is your IPL/SPL?
Answer these 2 questions for me and I will be able to better help you.

Now the irony is i am here in nepal and i use the phone as a simple mobile phone, but as far as i know i remember flashing a T-Mobile ROM while upgrading to WM6, the IPL and SPL both are 2.26, i unlocked the device while upgrading..

ok lets c if I may be of some help here,if u r in bootloader screen than try to reflash again T-mobile 2.26 rom and if it goes alright than go on to flash any other wm6 cooked roms.
or
if it doesnt flash than i wud suggest u reflash back the buttons 105 rom to get back to ipl/spl 1.05,than again use lokiwiz tool to unlock cid & reflash T-Mobile to gain ipl.spl 2.26
hope it works out.it happened once with me also, I did the same & now I'am running wm6 XM6r3 Rom,Secondly u can use the WST TOOL by Mestrini to verify ur device status, u can even Cid unlock ur device with it, Goodluck

Ok Dude here is your solution ive found it myself after Searching
I will not be liable for Bricking your Device you do this at your own Risk*
First of All Is your Phone CID unlocked?
if it is check to see if you can hard reset if your phone says Format is Failed then here is your fix
First flash factory rom
grab a minisd that is blank *Warning it will Overwrite any card you put in*
enter into bootloader
reset+ camera button
in windows xp
Download mtty

Stop ActiveSync, by Task Manager (press Ctrl + Alt + Delete)
kill two processes rapimgr.exe and wcescomm.exe
run program
set port to
\\.\WCEUSBH001
click OK
*Warning it will Overwrite any card you put in*
type in at CMD>
r2sd all
then press enter
after it finishes reset pda and return back into bootloader mode
reset+ camera button
it will ask if you wish to flash from sd press Voice Command button to accept
after 100% complete reset phone you should be able to get back

Your phone is CID locked,Mtty will not work in this situation. Have you tried a Hard Reset.
Does it display any error message while flashing the official Rom,does it complete flashing or stops with a error message ?
Which windows you are flashing with,WinXP or Vista ?

when hard reser it says me a fat format failed. all sw flash without problem.
Anybody know how this is repair? (sorry for wrong english)

You cannot CID unlock in the Bootloaders,it has to have a working OS (Rom),try to flash a rom,try these roms,lets hope one of them might work, Button's Rom 1.05 or xda_minis_launch or wizard_love_rom and official rom of your carrier and if there's any sdcard/mini_sdcard inserted in the phone,take it out before flashing,just keep on trying the different roms,its a catch 22 situation,it won't let the rom flash,stuck at splash screen and still it won't get CID unlocked in Bootloaders or use the Mtty method.I can imagine your frustration,but you gotta keep on trying.

i tried Xda_MiniS_LaunchROM_v154102,wizard love,button and original rom from cingular. and it freez on boot at all roms,and cannot make a hard reset. what i will doing next?

YES ! it is repairable,but not free,you'll have to pay for getting the CID unlock code from 'imei-check' uk.They might charge you around 20 or 30 dollars and provide you with a unlocking code,after that you'll be able to flash any Rom,but,here we were trying to get it working free somehow! Anyway, the choice is yours now,but certainly it is repairable,don't loose hope !

I know a way to avoid paying and manage a security_level=0 to allow "r2sd all"
It's just a matter of flashing a SoftSPL for G3 and use mtty

If i recall correctly while developing SoftSPL for G4, The Equinox also made a G3. Problem is no one ever thought of a use to it (until now, and i have others hehe )

it has in pack 145kb is it alright?
and jumpspl cannot execute and spl.ink too. How this flash?

Well, I do realize your frustration,but this application still needs to be tested and tried first,as far as I know,it has not been applied and tried yet.
But keep your fingers crossed as I'm,hope it comes out successful,it wud solve this problem of not allowing to "r2sd all" using mtty in CID locked device.

hmm, there's a flaw in my theory: It's necessary to access WinCE (WM) to allow Haret to do it's job
Maybe there's a work around i can think of...

What to do?

kaiser not starting

ok, some urgent help needed, yesterday ok, today will not start. only get as far as, 'smart mobility' R1.27.12.32 G22.45.88.07H D 1.56.00.00
phone is standard WM6 HTC. i have the 6.1 image for upgrading and tried to load using SD card, i get past tri colour screen, then loading, then checking then 'not allowed' and back to tri colour. it says KAIS130, SPL-1.93.000 CPLD-8. what?next
any help appreciated guys......

To Flash a ROM you'll most likley need Hard SPL
Follow the "Getting Started" Link in my Sig.
If you cannot get WM to boot, you'll need to re-flash your orginal carriers ROM.

You shouldn't be using cmonex's SD method the first time round. It is for upgrading only.
I have downloaded the package from point 2 (you should follow the USB method in post 3, NOT the SD set) and have upload it onto my site, please let me know when you are done with it.

ok, thanks DaveShaw, i have downloaded those files. the method in step 2 involves copying the jump progs to the device memory, which i do not have access to as it will not start. can i just copy to the sd card? thats why i was trying to flash a standard rom. i need a solution that will work just from the card. will the RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.5_radio_sign_22.45.88.07_1.27.12.11_Ship.rar load using what i have on my phone now? i assume that the spl gets replaced when i upgrade to 6.1 with htc ruu. i can try anything as i have nothing to lose now (do i?)

Enter your bootloader and try flashing any ROM supplied by your carrier to get into Windows Mobile.
What screen do you get stuck on? If it is the tri color screen check out the link in my signature.

Hi again, i am not actually 'stuck' on the screen as i can get into the loader, its just that i get the message saying that the (newer) rom will not load. i am extending my (c)rapidshare as free will not let me down load the 'standard' rom, then i will try that (just had to re-initialise my paypal and the passwords are on eWallet the phone, so ive reloaded the eWallet on my pc and ....so it goes on zzzzzzzzzz its funny how these things spiral down - not).
is there any way to update the spl only from the sd card?

Hi, no, it will not boot to windows. just been reading around while 'RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_1.56.405.5_radio_sign_22.45.88.07_1.27.12.11_Ship' is downloading. ive got connected with mtty and get cmd>. when i type boot i get 'Command Error !!!' i assume thats not good, i think rom is corrupted. tried standard HTC 6.1 RUU_Kaiser_HTC_FIN_3.29.414.0_radio_sign_25.83.40.02_1.65.17.56_Ship version 3.14.4.1 again on USB and after phone says 1% also message saying that it will not load error 294: invalid vendor id

Yeah, you need the ROM your carrier supplied.
Where is the Phone from?
Does a Hard Reset help?

woo hoo, yippeeeeeeeeeeeeee. the kaiser lives. back to standard 6.0 rom. cheers, i owe you a beer (or 2) if you are ever in abu dhabi, let me know ;-)
i can reload all from sprite backup (only from yesterday) to get me going again
but..... next will try to replace spl and then load 6.1. not sure why HTC standard would not let me update, i thought the ruu would update any htc phone
HardSPL 3.29 is first (yes?) then will try Kaiser_HTC_ASIA_HK_WWE_3.34.721.2 which sounds good. one more thing, my phone is not locked so do i need to do the 'SIM and CID-Unlock'

That's right, flash the HardSPL 3.29 first (SIM unlock is optional, CID unlock isn't needed - Hard SPL takes care of that - but it comes as part of the SIM unlock) then flash a WM6.1 ROM.

Only if it's from the same region the RUU was intended for eg the European TyTN II's won't accept the latest Hong Kong WWE ROM by default because of this so as already suggested hardSPL works around this. My WM 6.0 UK original TyTN II upgraded to WM 6.1 OK but that was using the HTC UK provided ROM update. That updated everything required including the SPL and Radio to the required HTC versions. I'm back on the original WM 6.0 version though due to reliability issues with 6.1 and poor GPS performance.
