Data cut off for Rogers users - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Customers on Rogers that are using dream or magic currently have their data disabled until they upgrade to the network's newest firmware for the phone. I am currently running a cyanogen build. Would i have to flash the new rogers firmware and flash it back to cyanogen to get my data back? or is there an easier path i can take?

Do NOT attempt this. The Rogers' version contains PerfectSPL, which will prevent any subsequent attempt to reflash or root.
The impression I get from reading here and there is that most of us are waiting to see if changing the build.trout.prop file will spoof the Rogers' script check or, failing that, if someone will come out with a modified Dream ROM, as Cursordroid has done with the Magic. (Apologies, no links, as a "new" poster, I cannot insert hyperlinks).

Rogers a rip... but Bells even worse they lied to me just to get me into a contract, and the lied to try and keep me in the contract!

Any updates on this? I'm still without data outside of the house and it's getting to be a problem.

Just bonking this to see if any progress has been made. I've yet to find any other threads on it and I figure I'm not the only one with no data right now.

Unroot help, yes I have used search

Hello everyone, my HTC DREAM touch screen just died on me today meaning it doesn't detect me. I tried battery pull and soft/hard reset and even wipe. I plan on bringing it back to rogers for a replacement or repair but I gotta revert this back to stock. My Phone is rooted and is rogers its also running cyanogen. How I unroot and install the factory firmware, i have looked through google and here and i may missed some or didn't see any results that reflected what I was looking for.
You obviously did not search Google correctly.
Al you'll really need is to find the DREAIMG.nbh file for RC29, and use fastboot to flash it over. That should take you to 1.0, I believe. You may need to find an official OTA update for Cupcake to flash as well, you may not.

Just getting it back to 1.0 is fine. All the OP would have to say is he never wanted to get the updates.
Here is the factory cupcake build you can use. http://androidoverdrive.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=85
So if I unrooted using the DREAIMG.nbh procedure 48 hours ago, how long do I have to wait for the OTA upgrade to bring me current? Is there anything I can do to hurry it along? For example, will it not come through if certain apps are being used, etc? Or do I just ... wait longer?
ummm, Rogers doesn't have OTA updates. Just get the e911 update thing from rogers and run that. It will unroot you and put you to the latest rom.
FYI you can now say good bye to root as the new phone that you get from rogers will not allow root.
I feel for you as I am in the same stupid F'N sinking boat. F Rogers.

I will not scold you for not reading enough or reading correctly. I have been reading this site, others, and searching for 3 months to get to the point where I am now. There are thousands of posts and it is often difficult to piece it all together and sort the wheat from the chaff.
I can offer what I have found.

I thought this post might be helpful since it offers a stock rogers rom, but it says 32A, so I don't konw if that will work with the Dream.

This seems cool, but i can't find an md5sum for it, so there seems to be no way to verify the download. It would be a shame to brick the phone with a bad download.
I wonder if anyone has used it successfully and has a checksum?
Maybe [email protected] could help us?
3.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=544654
has this:
"
Regardless, heres the original radio (3.22.20.17) and the original recovery (WARNING: UNROOTED) from rogers dream:
http://www.stevebirstok.com/android/losemyroot.zip
"
but again, I cannot find and md5sum for the file, so I am a bit hesitant to use it if a brick could result.
I think suggestion #2 would be great if there was a checksum for the file.
I would keep a copy of it handy as well if I could verify it.

PRI 2.20_003 from the Official Release?? Does it make a difference??

Is it possible to install the new PRI 2.20_003 from the official sprint 2.1 release without having to run the RUU thus losing root.
Would there be any gain from having the 2.20_003 vs 1.68_003/1.70_003?
A few things I have noticed and was not sure if it was because the PRI is that my data connection goes to sleep and my weather does not update, my internet connection stops, my exchange mail says it failed to sync. I end up having to put in airplane mode and back to normal to get the data working again. I was not sure if this had to do with the Radio instructions.
I just experienced the same thing. I noticed that I no longer had weather information on my screen and when I went to update it, I was informed that I had no connection...in spite of the fact that I was showing 5 bars and 3G. I tried to internet and had the same thing. I just rebooted my phone and I'm back to normal. Doesn't look like Sprint pushed any more auto-updates, so its kind of weird.
I'm currently running Damages 2.1 ROM also. Other than this one time, it had been running flawlessly.
Afaik it doesn't allow for MNS over 3G still. I think we still need to flash an Eris based ROM to get that.
Possible to do a reset to update the PRI
I am a new user, but for some reason they're flagging link to Avalaunchmods' "How fix PRI" post in the development forum as an outside link.
I used it once to change back to 1.70_003 from the Flipz-01 custom PRI flipzmod's Fresh 2.0D ROM did. While it said it had to be from a 1.5 ROM, any chance that doing the same ##786# and Reset with the stock 2.1 update.zip running on your phone could make your phone update to PRI 2.20_003 and PRL 65000 or would that just be asking to brick your phone?
My first post, please go easy.
I would think that should work. Your MSL shouldn't have changed, and that was the only real requirement to use the fix. Personally, though, I think I would say wait until root has been gained so you can nandroid before you try it. If you are having major issues and have insurance, though, go for it. Worst that can happen is you end up with another phone after running a Sprint update kills yours.

I am rooted so I can put any rom on. I was just wondering if I can add the new PRI 2.20_003 some how without flashing the Official RUU and will it improve anything over the old ones.

As soon as I ran Damages 2.1 ROM, I did the ##786# reset and the only thing that was reset was the PRI changing back to 1.70_003 from the Flipz-01. It had no impact on the PRL at all (stayed at 60664).

The Avalaunchmods thread is for the 2.10_003 PRI that was in an Eris leak which is a Verizon PRI. Thats not what my question is about.
Right now I am on 1.68_003 PRI (1.5 original Sprint PRI) I want to know how to install the official Sprint PRI 2.20_003 without having to flash the official RUU and lose root.

I'm about same boat, actually. I'm on 1.70_003 PRI (I bought my hero after 1.56.651.2 released), though.
I just tossed the MSL-reset idea out as a possible way of getting new PRI, though I guess for now, it seems you really have to run the RUU.
No big, I'm running the stock 2.1 for right now to see the difference between it and Fresh 2.1.1

Same as dwertz, I'm still rooted as I never used the newest RUU. I've Nandroid-backup'd my Fresh 2.1.1 install, and about to do a backup of the Stock 2.1 Release (from damageless SprintUpdate2.zip) I just installed.
So I should be able to restore after the Reset fine with those backups if I do the MSL-Reset?
I change my to the new PRI and didn't really notice a difference. I didn't know how to manually do it, so I took Damage's ROM that switched every bodies PRI to the Eris PRI and substituted in the new PRI, resigned, flashed, and nandroided back.

Question about which 2.2 rom

Ok I have read basically all of the 'bible'.
My rogers captivate should be here tommorow i plan to root and flash it asap. Which 2.2 roms have HUSPA enabled; only deo? Or does cog?
Do I need to do anything to my rogers phone different then an ATT phone before flashing since it is named 96 not 97?
Thank you and sorry if this has been answered... I did read for about 2 hours before posting.

None of those are explaining to me this script to change 96 to 97?
nope, i just linked to the ones i actually knew the answer too.
But any custom rom I install will have all the ATT bloatware on it?
In theory you will already have been rooted meaning you can always remove any items you consider to be bloatware.

Thanks, ill report back.
My new laptop is coming tommorow so I don't know if i will have time to take care of both.
Bear in mind, at this time there is no way to go back to the original Rogers firmware if you are unhappy with whatever AT&T firmware you flash. And you may as well use either the Device ID or Android ID app to get your device ID before you flash.
There is now a way to get back to stock Rogers firmware.

No way to go back? I thought after beta 6 of cognition you could flash back?
So even if i do a backup before flashing I cannot go back?
That's correct. ROM installations are not installed or backed up with backup software. There needs to be a ROM available of your shipped base ROM.
Here's an analogy based on a PC: You can backup XP; Then install Windows 7; But you cannot go back to XP from a backup of XP.
If I"m not mistaken, the closest you could come is to root your phone, install ClockworkMod Recovery, and make a Recovery Backup with that. (The PC analogy of this is 'making an image').
You could then restore that, but you would hvae a modified ROM. YOu can unroot that, and that would be the closest you would be to being back to stock.
One thing you want to be sure you do: after creating the backup, you want to copy that to your PC to be sure you don't lose it during any of your other activities.
One caveat: I'm not sure if the CWM supports your phone with your ROM, or if rooting is out for it, etc. You'll have to do a bit of due diligence before going down this path.

The only stock Rogers firmware available at the time I wrote that was a nandroid backup and no one had success using it unless they still had Rogers firmware on their phone. There is now an Odin flashable version linked in this post. People report that they still see an AT&T logo when they boot even after using this to go back to Rogers firmware (I do too on my AT&T phone flashed with it). I don't know if there may be other issues.
yeah all that stuff is ready, and i planned to do cwm, im fine if that will restore to a rogers FW...
then maybe ill stay on the Rogers fw untill either a completely debranded CM6.1 comes, or they build a COG off rogers... Apparently from my due diligence, the rogers fw has much better gps.

Can't update to 2.3.3

I'm currently running 2.2.2 OS Build FRG83G. The phone has downloaded the system update but refuses to install it. I keep getting "zip verification failed". I've even tried a manual update with the same results. The phone is rooted and unlocked if that helps. How do I get this phone to update to Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread ?
You have to be stock to apply official updates. Sense you are rooted, why not just flash one of the stock rooted builds in the dev section?
Hmm ok, I will go do that then and see if that works.
<snip><snip><snip>
I am having a similar problem. I have a brand new N1 with 2.2 build 2.16.405.1 CL223106, do you know if I can jump right to 2.3.4 without first going to 2.2.3? Whats with my build number? Why doesn't it show FR....? I tried the #*#checkin*#* and am getting nothing OTA. Thanks.
You may have carrier specific build. Are you with Vodafone, or Videotron, etc?
Shouldn't be with Vodafone or Videotron. Its a PB99100 and should be for Tmobile. I bought this new from a 'questionable' site on the internet and now I'm freaking out. I do get 3G with my tmobile sim card.
Just because it works on T-Mo, doesn't mean it doesn't have a ROM from another carrier. It's possible you got some back stock from a carrier that tweaks their ROM...
I don't recognize the build number, so I couldn't say for certain, but it doesn't sound like a Google build...
You can switch to a stock ROM very easily by following the unroot/restore guide in the wiki. It will wipe your phone, so you may wasn't to backup what you can first (MyBackup is about the best non-root option).
Since you bought a version from a questionable source, does it happen to have a lock symbol at the bottom of the 'X' when you boot up? If so, it will make it sooo much easier to get your phone to a modern version. You could still stick with Google's Stock Android, or you could go with a better (in my opinion) 3rd party ROM like CyanogenMod.

[Q] Flashing a custom rom with phone already flashed to cricket

Good afternoon all,
I have an HTC One PN072. I've flashed the phone from Sprint to Cricket. They were very adamant about me not "resetting" the phone as it will remove the information, or flash they've added.
I've done several searches and can't seem to find a thread indicating 1) if this is possible and 2) a guide to doing so. The phone already is rooted and has TWRP on it as well.
If anyone knows of a thread I would love a link to a guide.

I have a Sprint One fully flashed to Verizon and I flash custom ROMs all the time without any problems. I have never lost any settings and I don't even have to re-activate my phone. I would think that as long as you dont use Bootloader to flash a complete RUU image you should be fine. Goin s-off if your not already might cause issues here as well. (If someone knows for sure please correct me) I would say just download a ROM and install it with TWRP. I have updated firmware as well with no issues as well, however the firmware I upgraded with did not contain a radio update, which I am hesitant to do since I imagine that will effect my flash. I did my flash myself but it seems like a headache re-doing it.

Not that I have ever experienced. That was true on my EVO LTE and has so far been true on my One. I have the newest TWRP and in the past two days I have flashed EclipticOne, Elegencia and Insert Coin. On my old Droids Clockwork recoveries reset worked fine as well. DONT do a factory reset from inside the ROM. I have not tried it on my One, but on my EVO and my Droid 1/2/3 phones that would undo parts of a flash and I would have to reactivate. If I were you I would just work within my current firmware and flash what was available.
It is possible for you to flash your phone back to Cricket for free but its requires a lot of setup and can be a real pain in the ass. Getting 3G on Verizon was particularly painful and I have many screen shots and pages of notes on the actual procedure. When I upgraded from my EVO to the One I managed to get it right the first time by following my notes but it was still a serious hassle.

i was thinking about getting my one flashed to verizon but how does it work?? say i get my phone flashed.. is it verizon pre paid?? does that come with unlimited data?? text & talk?? how much would my bill be a month? sorry for all the questions
I apologize, so just to be as clear as possible, if you follow all of the wipes that roms usually ask you to perform in TWRP then you should be fine? However, do not perform a factory reset in the rom itself once loaded?
Doing a wipe through TWRP's wipe feature is fine as long as you dont go into 'Advanced' and mess with settings. Do not do the factory reset within the ROM once the ROM is loaded. If, while installing a ROM, the installer wants to do a wipe, that is fine as well.
