Hi,
I read about ROM that can be downloaded to upgrade PPC. I downloaded the the WM 6.5ROM for my OPAL.
I just fell confused about some points that I hope you can help me with:
Do I have to install any SPL or HardSPL to be able to install the ROM?
Is there any stable version of WM 6.5 for opal or most of them have bugs?
I also hope that posters of new ROMs include all necessary steps to install their ROM and don't rely on the previous knowledge so newbies don't feel lost all the way.
Thanks to all of whoever exerted effort to please us with new ROMs and apps.
Any way, thanks for watching this topic, I found an answer that could be useful to others, it is the steps necessary to install your ROM (it uses Diamond but same steps applied)

You must flash HardSPL first to be able to flash this ROM!

An alternative is USPL, it doesn't change your original SPL!

but he forgot to shoe that we need to drag the .nbh file in to the wrapper to flash the rom otherwise i will create a problem

Hi,
you will need to flash a new , 6.5-based custom ROM to your device. To do that you will need HardSPL, the Rom and some patience.
At first you should read the How-to on flashing the Diamond.

Okay so i joined xda and started looking at some cool application and being new to this whole thing i was amazed you could get windows 6.5 so i started to see some tuts and i came across ROM's. i did know about these therefore i read up a little and understood SPL's are what the system runs on and ROM is OS based, if i'm right? But i do not understand the need of a new SPL before getting 6.5 ROM? i would be grateful if anyone could explain this to i'm very confused and also i have not modded my htc hd in any way
My current Rom version is 1.14.405.3.wwe
Radio version 1.09.25.14
Now if anyone can explain what i need to do to get windows 6.5 and all this ROM and SPL stuff please. i'm scared if i mess around with them, i might end up bricking my beloved htc hd.

SORRY SORRY for being a newbie but i cannot find a proper post with all explanation from the begining to the end.
You just need to flash any 6.5 rom. It is that simple, guides to flashing can be found in the beginning of this first page, stickied. If you want to have 6.1 again, then just flash 6.1 rom, done.
You can always look around this sub-forum for a ROM, almost every chef uses WM 6.5/.x here.
You will need to do this first:

And pick a ROM that you like and follow the steps given.
I'd personally recommend NRGZ28's Energy ROM, the latest build is very stable and fast.

how to change from 6.1 to 6.5? Easy..
Install Hard-SPL first then you can install any roms that you like.. eg. 6.1 or 6.5.x roms.. your choice.
Remember to Hard-SPL 1st! and save your things b4 flashing a rom

i can tell you that you have lots of nice roms and when you learn it its easy but always task29 between roms i dident in the beginning so i got bugs and problems all the time.
i have tested nearly all and all is god but the energy roms are filled with god to have software and easy to make manilla as you want it and every thing works ok.
try them all dont be shy

Hello everyone
I'm new to ROM upgrade and I'm sure everyone knows that its a risk messing with your ROM. I've been browsing through all the post here and find it a little bit confusing on what to do first and then next....
I just want to upgrade from WM6.1 to WM 6.5 . Ive read about megade, HSPL, differrent versions of megade 1.7.5- 1.7.6 and i know that its a faster, reliable system. I'm just confuse on what to install/do first. Anyone can post a step by step walk through on the process.

Download megade 1.7.5. Connect jade to computer via active sync, go into file and click on rom update utility.exe Follow the instructions and you're done.
Better performance but expect quicker battery drain.
