Recovery - Fail - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have tried searching (maybe I was not good enough), but this is what has happened.
My friend has a T-Mobile G1. I was looking for guides on how to root it and put the latest cyanogen on there.
Followed the guide on Cyanogen's wiki, discovered I had a RC33, and needed to be on RC29.
So load up the bootloader, put the NBH on, starts updating..i get BOOTLOADER-OK, RECOVERY-Fail.
Now I'm stuck on the tricolour screen.
Pls help or point towards help!

spl update problem

hi i was able to do the hero update once before, but now im back to jf1.51
now i want to go back to hero and everytime i try to update the spl i get stuck in fastboot mode and i have to start all over again starting with rc29
i've tried wiping first and i've tried not wipping, everybody says its suppose to get stuck on g1 screen and then do the hero update, but mine always gets stuck on fastboot...but remember i was succesful the very first time i did all this! I am very frustrated please help!!!
Read my man. Read.
Not trying to be a a$$ but you need to find the Hero build you're wanting to put on and read the very first page of the thread. It will tell you all you need to do to flash the ROM.
I will say that you will most likely need the lastest radio, SPL and it wouldn't hurt to get Cyanogen's 1.4 recovery image.
All of these are readily available probably in the first three pages in the dev section.
trust me i've done all of those things you said i got all the latest updates, like i said i did it before, but now its not letting me, i have read read read....believe me im not retarted, i had it working once before, now ill tell u again after updating the new radio it says to rebbot so i do...then it takes me back to the recovery screen and at the bottom it says "formatting cache..." so i reboot again as im told to do and then the only screen i can get up is the fastboot loader. but if i try to install the new rom before i reboot the second time it takes me to the htc logo but loops!?!
Are you flashing Drizzy's Hero? If so, did you do your wipes and reformat your ext3?
Ya first I put jac2.63 on it that's when it worked I also didn't have my sd partioned at the time. So then later I partioned it into the 3 ones required when I went to try to hero back on and I was trying to put drizzy 1.7 on it. I heard that the rom litterally goes on the sdcard is this true. What goes on the ext3 partion??? Should I redo the partioning part
hello please someone help i am scared to try flashing again cause i had to go back to rc29 about 6 times, please read everthing i posted earlier to better understand my problem

help wiht rooting a uk g1

Hello,
I recently bought an unlocked G1 of ebay. When it arrived the firmware on it was 1.6.
I decided that i would like to jail break/root it so i followed the intructions and downgraded to rc7 and began to manually root it.
After much messing about i managed to do it however when it came to installing the cyanogen mod (i chose the newest stable release 4.2.13) it hangs at the T-mobile G1 screen. I am aware that the first boot after the mod can take some time so i left it for 20 minutes but got nothing.
I have managed now to downgrade it again to RC7 and was just hoping that you guys could help me /tell me what i did wrong.
I followed the instructions on this website
http://android.lucidrem.us/files/howto-root.txt
I really would appreciate any help anyone could give me as i'm at my feckin wits end
cheers
Check out the guide on Cyanogen's Wiki for detailed instructions on how to root your UK G1
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_G1/Dream_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod
My guess would be that you didn't flash the HTC dev phone image prior to flashing the newest CyanogenMOD, it's a pretty common mistake for beginner's
Check the Wiki, it should get you in the right direction

I'm the Question & Answer section, what'd I do now?!?!?!?!
Anyway. You still got a bootloader, so you should be thankful for that. Make sure that your NBH is correct for your device, that the download is correct (md5sum it), and do it again; put the DREAIMG.nbh on /sdcard and then try it again.
Sounds like the image is not correct, so it shouldn't have made yet any changes to your system. Press alt-ctrl-del, ehm, I mean, green-menu-red, to reboot the device if you want to abort the mission until you know you have a good, working nbh.
Looked in the Q&A, not too many results on "Recovery - fail".
I checked the md5, and it was okay. Doing a red+menu+green keeps me on the triloader
Should i try with a DREAIMG.NBH of another RC? how do i determine which one would work?

Those answers are also in the Q&A section. And, if for some reason you can't find an answer to your question/s, it doesn't mean you shouldn't post your question there.
I just tried applying the RC-30 nbh, and that fails on Recovery as well.
Please HELP!
I've tried three different sd cards, no luck. Keeps failing on recovery.
i understand its not a brick because i get the rainbow screen. But how do i restore it?!
none of the key combinations work, i can only get to bootloader.
Meh, just tried a 4th sd card.
Have tried a RC-29 and RC-30 NBH, with no luck.
Considering trying a Rogers Dreaimg.nbh now.
Please tell me its not bricked?
The rogers dreaimg.nbh says not allowed...
trying to make a gold card now
Done!
Created a gold card and flashed the rogers image..WORKS!
Now I'm on rogers 1.5, from my T-mobile rc-33..
Its gonna stay this way for a while i think

question on flashing

hi guys, i need a little bit of help. i've followed the tutorial to root the g1 and got as far as flashing the modified rom but I can't get it past the t Mobile G1 splash screen when ever i flash any rom here. I can't really find any good up to date guides on here either so I'm a little lost and wondering maybe how to restore it back to default if I don't have any luck.
Can you boot into bootloader or recovery. Please try home+power and power+camera and report back.

[Q] Wow I feel lost...

I bought my G1 on the first day I could. I rooted it as soon as you could so I could get apps to SD and bump up the CPU a bit. I loved this phone. I eventually upgraded to an HD2 so I could run Android on it and stick with T-Mobile. I just booted my G1 back up so that I could install some apps to use it as a remote webcam. I did a factory reset and then got stuck during the activation screen. I know you can use ADB to bypass this but I figured I might as well just install a new rom on it that can activate the wifi during the startup process.
This is where I feel lost. I haven't booted up my G1 in ages and thus I haven't flashed it in ages. I would like to install this rom: The Official "KANGED" CM7 for DS ... but I don't have the correct SPL or Radio I am guessing. I currently have HBOOT-1.33.2005 and Radio 2.22.19.26I. I have a recovery image installed (RA-dream-v1.6.2) so I can flash roms and radios and such but I am having trouble finding threads that talk about the proper files to install. If somebody could just point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. Thanks!!

this will have all the needed info
so to clarify - via fastboot update recovery then radio then spl
when finished download rom and gapps
congrats your done!
Well, there's also a way to flash these RADIO and SPL, shown by YOU (demkantor) but as he said, fastboot is a little bit more complicated for me, but if you have it , just use fastboot. And remember, 'Fastboot is your Friend' !!!
