Hello,
I recently bought an unlocked G1 of ebay. When it arrived the firmware on it was 1.6.
I decided that i would like to jail break/root it so i followed the intructions and downgraded to rc7 and began to manually root it.
After much messing about i managed to do it however when it came to installing the cyanogen mod (i chose the newest stable release 4.2.13) it hangs at the T-mobile G1 screen. I am aware that the first boot after the mod can take some time so i left it for 20 minutes but got nothing.
I have managed now to downgrade it again to RC7 and was just hoping that you guys could help me /tell me what i did wrong.
I followed the instructions on this website
http://android.lucidrem.us/files/howto-root.txt
I really would appreciate any help anyone could give me as i'm at my feckin wits end
cheers
Check out the guide on Cyanogen's Wiki for detailed instructions on how to root your UK G1
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php/Full_Update_Guide_-_G1/Dream_Firmware_to_CyanogenMod
My guess would be that you didn't flash the HTC dev phone image prior to flashing the newest CyanogenMOD, it's a pretty common mistake for beginner's
Check the Wiki, it should get you in the right direction

Hi all,
I currently have an unlocked HTC G1 which I bought from eBay. I am on the o2 network. o2 do not sell the HTC G1 therefore, even with a dataplan, I am not recieving OTA updates. So, for a few days now, I have searched google inside out for ways to get my G1 up to 1.6 which I am aware is the latest and final OS for the HTC G1.
I have gone from: 1.0 to 1.1 to 1.5 (CRB17) to 1.5 (CRB43) to 1.5 (CRC1).
Now, I am completely stuck as to where to go next. I am aware that the UK OS 1.6 update is called DRC92. I have found CRC1 to DRC92 NO WHERE. I have even read I have to go from CRC1 to CRC37 to DRC92, but I also cannot find CRC1 to CRC37 anywhere. I HAVE however found CRC37 to DRC92. Which is of no help unless I have the build CRC37 on my phone.
I am aware that this post looks confusing with all the build numbers, but I am sure someone out there HAS done this update from 1.0 to 1.6 on their UK G1 manually. I am prepared to start again from 1.0 (with the help of flashing) if someone has a guide which takes a different route.
I hope there is someone out there who can help, and I await a reply.
Thank you all,
Neel
You best bet is to follow one of the many guides to rooting the phone, then you can just download the latest update from one of the many superb dev's here and install it.
For example my UK G1 is running a eclair rom at the moment, and I have not had to wait for tmobile to finally roll it out.
Just follow this, works for all dreams excluding rogers

Hi,
I have tried searching (maybe I was not good enough), but this is what has happened.
My friend has a T-Mobile G1. I was looking for guides on how to root it and put the latest cyanogen on there.
Followed the guide on Cyanogen's wiki, discovered I had a RC33, and needed to be on RC29.
So load up the bootloader, put the NBH on, starts updating..i get BOOTLOADER-OK, RECOVERY-Fail.
Now I'm stuck on the tricolour screen.
Pls help or point towards help!
hi guys, i need a little bit of help. i've followed the tutorial to root the g1 and got as far as flashing the modified rom but I can't get it past the t Mobile G1 splash screen when ever i flash any rom here. I can't really find any good up to date guides on here either so I'm a little lost and wondering maybe how to restore it back to default if I don't have any luck.
Can you boot into bootloader or recovery. Please try home+power and power+camera and report back.
Hello all. new user here. Where to start where to start.
I consider myself an intermediate PC user and a noob with cellphones. I am a novice at Command prompt and ROM's and such.
Here's my problem..
I recently purchased the HTC Dream (Google G1) GSM Unlocked from America.
It came loaded with Android 2.1 on it.
I am trying to bypass the activation screen and cannot find anyone with a data SIM to fix the issue. So I've attempted to mod. Had some help with an advance PC user and he is also stumped.
I currently have no OS on the phone.
I have successfully rooted the phone, updated Hard SPL, and I originally had Radio version 1.22.12.29 and successfully updated it to 2.22.23.02
I have followed instructions to best of my knowledge and tried older and newer versions of Cyanogen mod. I get the error E: Can't find update-script installation aborted.
I have also tried a couple of other totally different ROMS..same issue.
I currently am running Hboot 1.33.2005
It's hard to find clear instructions on what exactly works for the phone. I don't want to brick it lol, I paid good money.
Please help I am a total noob I'll admit. If you could break down the terminology lol. thanks a million!
If u can get into recovery flash from a sd card
1 put your rom on the root of your sd card
2 pit card Into Phone
3 boot into recovery
4 wipe then flash rom
Reset your phone and see if it boots up

Sorry for the late help, but if you still have this problem, you can follow the guide I created on how to root G1 based on what I have done when I root my phone. This will allow you to flash any room. this guide is also easy to follow. but for the meantime I still can't provide links so just copy paste the address of my site. http://techyknow.weebly.com/how-to-root-tmobile-g1.html hope that will help you.
