Cameras broken - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

This has been going on since I bought it, but nothing I've tried so far has fixed the problem, which is that both cameras (front and back) seem like they're on acid. They do tend to fix themselves for a few seconds once in a blue moon, but other than that, they image looks like this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6bUjpKkYM0
The colours aren't just inverted, it's a lot more messed up than that. I've tried 3 different roms so far, so that's not the issue, after phh's suggestion I've also tried all the radio roms available for diamond and that's not the issue either. Anyone know what else could be wrong?

That is strange. At first I was thinking it was a software error, but you've flashed several ROMs.
You bought it like that? As in, it was defective even in the official original stock ROM with the ship SPL? It could have been defective - you should have returned it.
~codeslicer

Yeah, it's been like that since I bought it. Bit too late to return it now.

Since no ROMs seem to fix it, your only options are:
Send it in to HTC repair, which would cost around $100-$200
Look on eBay for a spare camera
You really should have returned a defective product though!
~codeslicer

I wasn't really worried about it, cause I'm a photographer and have camera gear up the wazoo, I just found myself recently having to record some video notes and the only piece of equipment capable of doing it looks like it's on acid.

HTC quality control issue?

So i am the owner of a MDA (wizard), 8525 (hermes) and now 2 tilts (8925).. and im notcing a trend.. HTC has some serious quality control issues.. now i know not everything can be perfect on a phone so thats no issue, however.. here are my issues.. first we'll start with the famous MDA (htc wizard).. i had about 10 of them over a 1yr period.. everytime at least one of the keys on the keyboard would be pushed in slightly so that it wasnt level with the surface.. i found this VERY annoying.. also the slider seemed different on each phone no matter how many different ones i had the slider was different everytime! then we move onto the 8525.. same issue with the keyboard.. even the backlight was dim on some of the phones.. me and my buddies have 8525s and each one is different.. ones screen might be slightly brighter then the other and so on.. but its all the same model # and so on.. then this brings me to the tilt.. ive had 3 so far.. first one had to be replaced because half the keyboard backlight went out.. but i LOVED the slider on it.. it really clicked into place when closing the phone a very loud firm snap.. but then the screen tilted sort of weird.. it was off angle.. so now i get the replacement and the screen tilts higher then my previous one however when sliding it shut its not as firm i dont hear the loud snap anymore its more of a soft snap..which makes me feel its not so firm..so then after closer examination i notice my keyboard is a bit flakey too the G and H keys are off centered from the rest.. and the H key is pushed into the keypad slighty in the top left corner.. for a better example.. the Y U I H J K B N M 0 keys are white.. the rest are black.. well the G key is black and the H key is white.. u can clearly see the the G is slightly over into the white area.. i am VERY picky on this type of stuff when these phones cost hundreds of dollars.. and i hate calling to have my phone constantly replaced.. am i the only one whos experiencing these problems? i highly doubt it.. htc does have a serious quality control issue in my eyes..
ummm, Yes?
Are you just looking for a reason to complain? HTC from my experience, Dash, 8125, Kaiser, SDA, etc, etc are great phones. Nothing ever wrong with the hardware. I have only had to send my back due to WM5/6 errors. If your keys on the keypad a busted, try not killing the keys, they didn't do anything to you.
ive had same issues with the 8125, and 8525....
lol im not looking for a reason to complain i am a SUPER picky person tho. i absoutley LOVE my tilt but i just want to see if any one else is having the same issues and apprently im not alone!
I've noticed the same types of issues on numerous 8525's, and two Tilts. I've had SE, Samsung, and Moto phones, and never had to make an exchange until I got an HTC. Unfortunately, none of those manufacturers make a worthy PPC for the U.S. The best suggestion, unfortunately, is to try not to pay too much attention to the quality details, or go with another phone type/manufacturer. You could exchange the Tilt another 10 times and find something wrong with each device if you look too closely.

me and my buddy just said the same exact line..
What's the model for the Tilt (under the battery cover)? KAIS130, 120, 110, or 100?
Also, where is it made?
I myself am not a picky person but I am having an issue also. My D-pad/phone end call assembly ( the buttons on the front of the phone) is loose. it wiggles around. Is anyone else having this problem? I really don't want to return the phone because of all of the work don't to get the phone to where it is now. But I do not want the buttons to stop working in the future because of it. Does anyone know if ATT repairs the phones or replaces them. Also will my cooked ROM void the warinty (sp) for a hardware problem or will they not care?
yup, i'd have to agree with you, quality control is not their strong area

I have to Disagree.
I have a nearly 2 year old Wizard which has been heavily used and abused on a daily basis, rarely in a case, usually in a pocket with coins, pens etc or rattling around in a cup holder in the car. All the buttons, keys, volume slider and sliding keyboard work as well today as they did when new. No rattles or sticking buttons. Mini USB has never let me down for sync or charge. On only Two occasions the 2.5mm audio socket wouldn't recognise when the headset had been removed but this was solved by blowing into the socket and reinserting/withdrawing the headset plug.
My Vario III, while still in its youth, is showing no signs of being any different.
I've had countless Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola phones over the years and everyone of them was physically ready for replacing before they were out of 12 month contract. Sticking buttons, non functioning joysicks, loose sliders, creaking hinges, failure to charge etc. The only exception being Nokia 6210, which I'm sure if I found it after all these years would still have a charge on its battery . The battery life on that phone was unbelievable.
So far my only gripe with the tilt has been software issues! Video recording with the tilt is horrible, even in daylight! and tcpmp played my movies much smoother with the 8525 than the tilt! Otherwise the phone is definitely a solid build!

There is a slight wiggle, that because the D-Pad is a rubber pad without any support from the panel like in usual phones, so theres got to be that little bit play. Dont worry the worst that could happen is a bit of dust can get under it
I have a bit of a question myself . has anybody noticed the center portion of the touch screen is "softer" than the bottom. You can notice this if you hold thescreen at an angle and sloly press it with the stylus, it sort of goes in an mm or so. It was the same with my M600i but my Moto ROKR E6 is hard like a normal hard screen, I assume dthe TyTyn should be like that.
I bought my phone in SIngapore and I live in India, no service for the TyTyn2 here cause it has'nt been released, I'm just praying nothing happens to it. If you require parts you can always try www.cnn.cn, they have'nt got the TyTyn2 parts yet but will shortly. A cooked rom does void the warranty. Your phone can be replaced 15 days within your purchase date after which they will only repair it. I dont trust service centers, they throw in any damn used part(I know this cause I've worked in one ) I prefer doing it myself
Thanks for the info. I'm over the 15 days now and your right I don't wan't the service center to touch my phone. We'll see how it fares after a couple of months
I think all the people who say that they've never had a problem with their phone don't quite understand the original post. When you compare one Tilt to another, one 8125 to another, etc. the level of variation that HTC allows to roll off the assembly line is in general much greater than other phone makers. If you've never had a problem and only have had one device of a particular type, you don't really have anything to judge that variation by, unless you compare it to friends' phones.
As for myself, I had 2 8525's. I noticed that when I threw them against a wall, one continued to work and the other one shattered. Very poor quality control as far as I'm concerned. j/k
Seriously, I noticed that the sliding mechanism wobbled a lot more on the first one than it did on the second.
well after countless complaining att has agreed to replace my tilt which i have problems with.. they are sending me a brand new kit.. i hope that this will be a good kit because im sick of having problems with the tilt.. i love the phone but damn the quality isnt as strong as the 8525.. Blowfish64.. you are correct people arent quite understanding the orginal post.. because of these quality control issues id NEVER order a htc device off ebay because u cant return it... luckly with att/tmobile/sprint/altell/verizon you can call in to exchange dept and complain and usually they will send you a replacement model which is nice.. i understand htc is a HUGE company and probaly doesnt care about some tiny issues with their phones but i as a consumer who is spending hundreds of dollars DOES CARE and i have every right to be picky.. you guys mean to tell me if u spent 700$ on the tytnII and the keyboard buttons werent straight or evenly lit you wouldnt complain? i seriously find that hard to believe..

I guess nothing can satisfy you ??
Quality Issues
I agree with the quality control issues. I recently had my original tilt stolen, unfortunately, and purchased another one. There are several differences in the feel of the same phone from one to another. The slide mechanism, D-pad, and keyboard all feel noticeably different.
Unfortunately, this second one has a distinct looseness in the sliding mechanism which when put under vibrate makes a distinct sound of cheapness. I will be calling ATT tomorrow to see if they will exchange for a new one.
Don't get me wrong, I love the phone, but given how much I had to pay a second, I want it to be good.
HTC QC = C+

I just noticed that my 2nd tilt (first one had a USB port problem) has a loose d-pad. I am going to call the store today and see if they have a 3rd one to replace this 2nd one...

Weird lines on ATT Tilt Camera

I am getting two weird lines on every picture taken with my ATT Tilt camera
One horizontal line and one vertical line.
I searched the forum, but only found one thread on this without and solutions.
Find attached a picture to see what it looks like, no camera settings are apparent.
Its faulty and needs replacing. My tytn ii did this and i got it fixed under warranty.
My tytn has the same problem!, if you move your camera to a dark place, then to a bright one... they usally go away, i dont know if its software or hardware problem....
Its hardware! Hence why it will get fixed/replaced under warranty.
Had this happen to my TyTN II as well and it was fixed under warranty....3 months later....
Same problem only 1 line in camera at bottom
My Kaiser has developed the same problem with one line. I do not use my camera. I am not willing to send it back under warranty since everything else works correctly. I do not want to get someone else's refurb sent back to me to find out it has another problem. Since the video is really subpar on Kaiser (and not likely to be fixed) not sure how long I will keep it when something better comes along (not an HTC) . Love the concept of the phone, but HTC really could do better for it's customers
Defiantly a hardware issue. Send back for warranty. My co-worker had the same problem with his Tilt and they exchanged it no problem.
Judging by the ROM date of his reissue and condition I would guess the one sent back to him was brand new.
thanks for your replies ppl.
I called HTC support the guy kept claiming its because of a scratch on the lens or the lens is broken. I didnt buy that.

Should I buy Tilt with broken speakers?

There's a craigslist ad on a used tilt with broken speakers for $80. I emailed him what happened, and he said that he dropped it. I later asked if it was repairable, and he said that its as easy as taking off the back and putting the speakers in like lego pieces. Everything is functional but that he said.
I've been looking around the forums and it looks like people fix their speakers by flashing radio, but thats software, this is hardware. So can it be fixed easily?

They'll only 'fix their speaker' by flashing, if they've put the wrong ROM/Radio combination on the device in the first place - software doesn't tend to break like hardware can and as long as it's right to start with, it usually stays that way. You can see whats required by checking out the service manual which is downloadable through the Kaiser wiki. It'd also be worth getting a price on a new speaker and any tools and consumable parts required to change it in order to help you decide if what's on offer is really such a good deal.

You will be better off paying a little more and buying a fully working phone. Look around, I have seen deals on Tilt from 125 to 200. Broken speaker is a very well noticable symptom, but some other things may be broken which you find out after buying. The hardware chips do not do well, when they experience a hard drop.
I'm selling a brand new Tilt with 4 batteries, Boxwave case w/ belt clip, USB Dock/Battery charger, wall charger and USB cable for $199 shipped.

Putting it on ebay today.
Thanks for the replies, I was about to buy it too. Yeah, more hardware could've been damaged. I never thought of it that way. Oh well, I guess i'll just wait for a cheap fuze deal or something.

R.I.P My TyTN

Its served me well for the past year but now i fear it has gone kaput..
2 days ago i noticed my homescreen had "no service" listed.
strange as i normally receive a 3g signal fine in my area with no loss..
So i figured take the sim out,
give it a clean and pop it back in
That came the same thing,
"no service"
So i took that sim out and tried my others [o2/tmobile and lebara]
Same thing, wouldn't get a signal..
==
So afraid to say this thing may end up on ebay or in the free ads as a faulty/repair handset as im lost with what to do.. >__<
Any advice guys?
[EDIT]
Yes the phone was unlocked,
must've been through atleast 14 different roms over time but that shouldnt effect this surely.. o__O
Have you tried a hard reset or reflash?
If your phone still dead..when there's a dead body...commonly there's always an autopsy . It can be hardware (antena), maybe something is loose in there.
Try hard-reset if not working flash stock and see if disabling 3G helps... Check no problems carrier side.
As Mr Clown said genrally a way to fix you just have to try every scenario and if not then might be hardware @ which point you can decide if worth the time/outlay?
Thanks guys for the info,
@MrClown I have tried a had reset to only end up in the same situation,
I will attempt a stock rom flash tonight to see if that helps
@Stylez Again i will try a stock flash and see if it helps,
Found a good one on the wiki so that should help
My guess is hardware related as the phone had been dropped a few times in the house albeit over many months not repeatedly,
I'll report back later guys
so thanks for the advice
hey dude! all is not lost! this is a common problem with the kaiser due to the sliding mechanism, i.e. "moving parts". over time, the wear and tear often causes the "main flex cable" to become loose/faulty. i had the same problem at the beginning of may 2010...had it fixed in 1 week and it worked fine. then i got an HD2 in june 2010 but the kaiser still works just fine!
i had made up my mind that the kaiser needed to be replaced the day it went bad. BUT i did not give up hope on it and decided to have it repaired because it is worth more in the second hand market with working phone functionality. did a simple cost-benefit analysis and figured i'd have it repaired AND get an HD2.
wouldn't you know it, i ended up GIVING the kaiser to my brother...had i sold it to a potential buyer, i'm certain it would be worth more if the phone parts work.
...and just to summarize! HD2 is GREAT! but i really miss the hardware keyboard of the kaiser and the super duper redundancy the kaiser had in terms of buttons...D-PAD+jog wheel+arrow keys on hardware keyboard, THREE OK buttons...count them! TWO start menu buttons. oh and the HD2 has a soft reset button in a REEAAAAAALLLLLLYYYYY difficult to access area behind the battery cover, unlike the kaiser's super friendly poke-the-stylus-in-the-hole approach. BUT i highly recommend the HD2 if you still fancy windows mobile...fast, HHUUUUUUGGGEEEE screen, and it seems android just might happen soon on the HD2.

Well if you'll care to enlighten me on where i could get this repair done id be most glad,
Wont be handing it to the people in my local market to fiddle with as i dont trust them at all
As in regards to the previous two guys a stock rom didnt help at all it still refuses to get a signal,
so its definatly something to do with this "flex cable"
But in regards to the HD i wont be getting one,
Most likely i'll be getting another xda exec [htc universal] for my social needs,
I have a tendancy of using dated hardware and pushing their limits
sure dude! i'm just going to post links here of THREE other threads about this issue (so you can verify with some more testing if the flex cable is really the actual issue), in which i have contributed my experience. you can read my posts there as well as all the other very helpful posts of other members.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=515264
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=692530
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=620069
summary: first try some of the debugging techniques mentioned in the above threads and look for signs that the flex cable is indeed faulty. if so, you have 2 options:
1. get a do-it-yourself kit (available on many websites and also on ebay) and errrr do it yourself!
2. have someone reliable and experienced with such repairs carry out the repair.
i had to go for option 2. and i had to rely on the parts that the service repair guy had to offer (he cannibalized the flex cable from a tilt so the front camera of my tytn2 is no longer detected!).
i totally understand the need to milk out every last drop from these expensive devices. i truly respect the tytn2 even though it is an old device. that little bugger still has so much potential. hope this helps!
Ahhh much thanks for the information man,
You have no idea how appreciative i am
Its definatly a hardware issue so its gonna have to be a replacement fixup for myself,
Looking into this listing on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-TyTN-II-P4550-Kaiser-Flex-Sim-Card-Slot-Repair-Part-/290442707411?cmd=ViewItem&pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item439fbc01d3
Essentially from hong kong as usual but that looks like it would do the job,
The only problem now is that i have ZERO experience with mobile based mainboards and hardware changing,
Give me a pc or mac anyday and ill be done in seconds but im afraid im blank for mobile operations,
Would any UK members be able to give advice as to somewhere i could get this fitted?
Only option i can think of is at the carphone warehouse..
as in my first post i dont really wish to give this to the market people for a botched job
And much thanks to ASCIIker for all the helpful information,
cos id really dread getting rid of my TyTN II >_<

S20+ can't use replacement camera as it needs to be pre-programmed?

Sent my phone to get its rear camera replacement, reputable company.
However, it's been over 2 weeks now. They've said that they need to take a camera from an existing phone to replace it. Because an OEM or replacement camera won't work as it needs to be pre-programmed.
I've never heard of this, and there are plenty of videos of S20's cameras being replaced with no mention of programming.
It just seems weird if they're lying or have made a mistake. Tempted to get my phone back and do the repair myself, but then if it actually does need programmed I'd be screwed.
