Copying contacts database - XPERIA X1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I use my Xperia everyday, but sometimes, for some kind of travels or situations, I like to go with a cheaper, smaller and lighter device, which is my Qtek 8300 (Tornado). It is Windows Mobile 5.0, and works perfectly.
I would like to know if it is possible to copy the contacts database from my Xperia to the Tornado, NOT using Activesync/Outlook. Is it possible by just copying a file.
Also, It would be desirable to copy also the calendar file, but this is not too important for me.
I have read and searched all the forum, not finding this answer...
Thank you very much. This is a great forum!

well if you use the same storage card in both phones
then my app would work
the file that does both contacts, call log and calander is called pim.vol
this app will help you with it.

Thank you very much ! I will try your solution.

Outlook Mobile | html email question(s)

I've have two different issues with Outlook mobile on my Tilt. I hope you guys can provide me with hints and workarounds.
Problem 1:
Outlook Mobile will not download Internet pictures. I don't want to keep telling Outlook to "Download Internet Pictures" because they were blocked. -Is there a way to permanently allow all pictures to download, so I don't have to click [2x] (i.e. Internet Pictures Blocked, Download Internet Pictures)?
Problem 2:
None of my html links are working. I keep getting an OperaLaunch.exe error "The file 'OperaLaunch' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file.' Subsequently I am unable to click on any links whether they are embedded within a picture or textual.
There must be some tweaks for this, perhaps a reg edit or something... please help
THANKS!
Opera 8.65
Hi,
Answer to question 2: Opera 8.65 gets around this problem, i was getting the same message, upgraded to 8.65 and that sorted it.

Raven,I appreciate the input but unfortunately that doesn't solve my problem. I have Opera 8.65 and been using it for a while to no avail with respect to this issue. [responding from my Tilt in Opera Mobile]-prealphageek
I was getting that same error and to fix it I searched the registry for operalaunch and changed it to opera.exe
Sorry I don't have the exact key that needs to be changed but that's how to fix it.

There are 14 different keys using operalaunch.exe keys; Do I change all of them? This still doesn't answer problem 1.
that happens when you install opera on the storagee card....
install it to your memory, or copy the opera launch to the windows folder

It's funny, as I was reading your post, it sounded like really logical thinking and you know it was. It works! THANKS the_ape!!!
Now how to get Outlook Mobile to automatically download all html pictures...
thanks again!!!
prealphageek
can anyone help with the html download?
Just getting this back on the radar. I'd like to get Pocket Outlook to automatically download images without me having to manually do it for every email. i.e. html emails...
That question has been asked many, many times and as far as I know, it has yet to be answered.
I think every newbie that comes here asks that question...
Chuck Pocket Outlook AND Flexmail.
Install ProfiMail from lonelycatgames.com - onto the storage card. It is great at HTML email! I think it is a much more efficient email app for a small screen. It also eliminates that frustrating BS of selecting the messages you want to download, then downloading them in a separate step.

Thanks for the tip.. I tried it out.. not exactly my cup of tea. It seemed a little clunky for me, plus I like using touchflo while reading mail. I can live with pocket outlook until there is a better fix. I prefer a real fix rather than a installing (masking the problem) new software to replace existing tools. that's just my 2 cents.

Onenote Mobile - where do the notes live?

I just flashed my Kaiser to Dutty and as a result it's wiped my Onenote Mobile notes (no great surprise there).
Before I flashed, I took a Sprite Backup. Does anyone know where the actual "notes" live? Is in a directory or registry entry somewhere? I'd like to restore them if possible. I have searched XDA Devs, but there's nothing I can see explaining this.
Thanks in advance...
\Application Data\Microsoft\OneNote Mobile.
I've been looking for a way to move them to another folder but I cannot find it.
Ta,
Dave
Thank You!
Thanks very much for this solution. I copied from the backup and I can see all my notes again.
You just saved me a lot of frustration
I love this forum. Every time I have some obscure question, someone has already asked it and, usually, someone else has answered it perfectly!
Thank you!
amazing
Amazing, I was asking myself this same question this afternoon on the way to school. You guys are amazing!
Thank you! Been flashing new ROMs and needed to back up my notes... this forum rocks!
one note 2010
dear all
one notes stores in local device memory instead of storage card. any solution to store the one notes 2010 files in storage cards. Please help me
just navigate to \Application Data\Microsoft\OneNote Mobile... highlight the "OneNote Mobile" folder, select menu edit, copy...then navigate to your storage card...place it anywhere you want it by hitting menu, edit, paste. Now they will be on your storage card for future retrival

But how to make OneNote store to SD?
Haven't figured that out yet either...still working
I think it's Pocket Mechanic that has the option to move applications to run from storage card...I've successfully moved most everything I've tried with it. Has anyone tried 'moving' folder to storage card with this app? I'm not sure how it works...if it leaves a shortcut behind pointing to new location on card maybe? I use OneNote for work, and can't afford to screw it up and have down time trying to fix, so wondering if anyone has tried that route yet?
UPDATE: Tried above method, and it did not work. Has anyone else found a feasible way to do this yet? With it storing audio recordings in .wav format, it's basically not usable without being able to store to storage card. I run out of memory in less than one minute.
The frustration continues
Hi everybody,
I have been grappling with this damned issue with OneNote 2007 on my HD2 forever. It’d be nice if some of the top dogs here at the XDA took a minute or two out of their busy schedules to fix us up with a way to force OneNote to SD card. I mean come on people, don’t you leave us at the mercy of windows unpredictable array of hangs, crashes and total system annihilations, give us a way out.
I have personally wormed around the registry and found a way for that whole attachment thing JVolger. Go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>Software>Microsoft>OneNote Mobile>12.0.
Once there edit the attachments String value with your favorite registry editor and change the string entry with the address of the folder where you like one note to save your attachments.
Now if someone could figure out a way to force one note to save to the SD entirely, I would be one happy man!!

SMS backup software

Hi,
After some advice (after a few hours trawling the entire site btw!).....
I need to backup my sms messages to pc and was trawling for software. Thought I'd found just what I need in Power SMS, but it seems to crash midway through doing an export to csv format. I can backup in the proprietary format (just like i can with SPB backup) but not to a "standard" format like csv
Can anyone offer a suggestion please? Would prefer not to pay for a piece of software that is (seemingly) not being developed (like Power SMS) again, but will do if I have to.
Thanks in advance!
If you really do your search, you'd have found PPCPimBackup .. and there're some great tips on restoring (and getting the 6.1 conversation model) back.
I have never tried any of these, but here are a couple from a discussion in another forum that I frequent.

Like I said, I did - and after renaming the ZIP file to get to the pbm file within, the format was proprietary and neither text nor hex editor could extrapolate anything meaningful (i.e. no RegEx I could find to pull into a db). Perhaps if you looked at my length of membership, you'd have adjusted the assumption that I hadn't searched properly.
Thanks to the others - am looking at Mobile Express and godswmobile.........
Update: Efficasoft Mobile Express works a treat - thanks for the advice denco7

I apologize for being unnecessary harsh, and for not reading thoroughly what being asked for.
Now thanking you for testing and Denco for tips, though I'm one that keeps all my stuff mobile, on spare SD and never really use the sync to PC, as the PC at work is locked and it's something I use 90% of my time. Been doing that since my Symbian time

can android decode pim backup files?

I'm migrating from the 6.5 roms to an android rom (Eclair Dark Theme) and wanted to ask if there was an app that can decode the PIM backup files so I can extract my contacts and messages, etc. Anything out there?
Moved as not ROM Development..
Oh ok sorry. either way hope someone can help ^_^
Actually I'm afraid you won't be moving to an Android ROM, you get to keep your present ROM and run Android off SD card, since we're not able to install Android in ROM yet.
Not sure if you can migrate your PIM data to android, but since you won't actually be losing them when you run android, I don't think it will be a big problem.
I'm sure there will be a way of doing it, just never really had that much data I'd be willing to trust to Android ports yet
i'm not sure if android reads pim backup files...but lets rephrase the question. i believe the intent is to get one's contacts and messages imported on to android?
if so, i THINK you can synch your windows mobile with google synch...and then boot into android and synch android with google synch to pull the contacts onto your android installation. maybe google synch can work for messages as well? i haven't tried any of this but i would imagine it should be possible, because android and google synch are both google products...
good solution
so i had the same problerm that i had to move all my contacts amd text messages and whatever from windows mobile to android...
i searched google for alsmost 3 hours to find out how to move pim contacvts and backups to android but u cant...
but a good solution for that is sprite mobile
then go to migrate and then there are three steps to migrate contacts texts and everything from windows mobile to android...
u just need a pc and thats it...xD
good luck with that...
whenn u have any questions pm me!
nick
there's migration tool from Windows Mobile to Android, check Sprite Migrate! well it covers 3 data areas yet.. and unfortunately there's no way to recover the contacts groups(

Thanks for the link, can someone help me here. As I'm unsure on how to overcome this, also want to move over sms and call logs if possbile. I'm new to Android may be a step by step.
Thanks in advance.
well, as long as you have contacts on your sim, you should be able to have them and copy when you boot android. Depending on the sim crd you have you can save X amount of sms on it.

thanks for your reply, then, they are no way, to truly export and import again, all ours contacts, and each time we do have to enter all the informations of all our people contact...
Sorry for a Sony Eriksson, I mean a phone upper quality or upper price, and a so basic real need to truly save info, and not to back-up....
USe microsofts MYPHONE service, it backs up all your contants online and you can set it up to sync automatically or when you want to, you can do it over activesync or wifi or data network, i've been using it for ages and its perfect!
install it from marketplace and make an use your windows live / hotmail account to use it.
you can also sync your contacts with outlook onto your pc i think so you'd have a copy of contacts there too?

Or SE Sync.
Thanks both of you for the suggestion, I never tough of it, going to give it a try..
Then? if I use also gmail and not too much hotmail, that would be trouble maker or not ?
thanks I do Not use Outlook, personnaly
use a software like sk tools to export your contacts in a xml file. or use a backup software like spb backup.

Lol, is that .xml executable on any other WM phone?
As for backup software - I think it can restore data only on THE SAME device?!
sk tools lets you export and import contacts using a .xml file. It works with every WM device. And a backup file made with spb backup is definitely restorable on another WM device, at least the part that contains your contacts data. You can choose what data you want to restore.
Uh, PPCPimBackup ?
Always used that to backup my stuff to SD before flashing..
Yeah, this one should also do the trick. I don't know it but it seems ok to me.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299705
There are countless ways to backup the contacts data of your WM phone. Actually I don't think there is any other platform out there that has got more options to do this: SPB Backup, Resco Backup, SK Tools, several freeware solutions, outlook vià active synch, Microsoft My Phone...
You see, you can choose the solution that suits you best
