I'm a noob to andriod - Touch Pro, Fuze Themes and Apps

Hey guys I want andriod but I have no idea how to get it.
I came across this site
http://connect-utb.com/index.php?option=com_rokdownloads&view=folder&Itemid=68&id=3:htc-raphael
but i don't know what version I have.
Does anyone know how to install andriod so that I can switch from windows mobile to andriod?

Do a search and you will find the file pack you need to put onto the ROOT of your SD card...then install the dual booter that has been created by someone on this site (thankfully) and boomshakalaka you have the ability to boot android. To go back to winmo just use your stylus and soft reset then the bootloader will come up just select wimo good luck it took me a few minutes at first but I got it I'm sure you will...

Why would Google have a download for a phone that never came with Android. Running it your phone is not going to be all you think it will. It's all custom and is still under development by the folks here at XDA. Something still do not work other most likely never will. It does work but has many issues still and I would not recommend using it as a daily OS as of yet.

Lol... That sounds comforting. I'm actually going to wait an see if any xda devs decide to mess around with this and mod their own version before I start using this as my new way to root.
Believe me it works, over at Android community .com I spent 5 hours downgradng my phone trying to get it to stock 1.5 [EPIC FAIL by the way] but I got in touch with him via Twitter and he came to the group and explained it a lot better.
What it does is it uses a security hole thats always been in the android platform to install Cyans 1.4 recovery image and from here you can flash any rom, I never got to try it but I believe and blnldy will say it works.
The .apk has been turned into an application in the market I believe its called Recovery Flasher and Besides me someone else confirmed it work.
Its really neat!

Questions
1.can I update to cupcake without having to setup my phone?(i dont have data plan)
2.Whenever I try to download something on the market, it just says 'starting download' and never starts
3.Can I develop apps with the current android sdk that will work on firmware 1.1 AND 1.5?
I do not have a data plan, and I had to go to a T-Mobile store and fight with the people there until they finally let me use a SIM card to set it up...and I do NOT want to go through that again
also, I'm a C++ programmer with 3 years experience, but no experience at all in Java...so will it be hard, or easy to start developing apps for android?
PLEASE help me with this, even if you can only answer one of the questions it will be GREATLY appreciated since this phone is more complicated than a rubiks cube!

Yes, you can update it and it won't ask for a re-avtivation, dun worry buddy !
The market stuff is crazy sometimes ! Just reboot the phone, and everything will be ok ( make sure your wifi connection is strong enough )
Since I am only a highschool's senior, I can't answer the last question ! Sorry
When you start a project using eclipse with the SDK installed correctly it will ask you 1.1, 1.5, or API.
Search the forums about activating without a dataplan there are instructions on how to do it.
You need the current sdk for cupcake, there is also a ndk for making native c apps too now, so hope you make something good
thanks for the replies.
I rebooted the phone and the downloads worked thx
do you know how to install the cupcake update? I went to setting and system updates, but it said my phone was up-to-date

Since you are on a modded rom, you cannot receive updates, pick out a new rom and go into recovery and flash it, since I am going to assume you are on an old recovery, you are gonna have to rename it to update.zip and put it on the root of your sd

You can manually install the update using the threads here, or at t-mobile.com/forums ( go the development section ). The update feature of the phone sucks badly, don't trust it
btw, u make me feel old (
I found on google that if you place update.zip on your phone and boot by pressing home+power, you can update it like that, but will that make me have to setup my phone again? I dont have a data plan, so i'll just stay with 1.1 if I have to
I haven't really started with android development yet, but I've given it a look over. I'm coming from c#.net and most of the syntax is the same, as they are both have roots in C you shouldn't have a problem there. So it's mostly just learning the platform and it's library. .net is managed though like android.
Eclipse isn't really in the same league as Visual Studio though.

if you flash a rom that is based on the adp phone (cyanogen's comes to mind)
you can skip singing into your google account until you have wifi set up.
so if i just do the update.zip trick with the cyanogen thing I wont have to sign in with google at all??!?!

99% sure about this, I've been flashing ROMs, Radio and stuffs regarding my G1 for a while. At first it was kinda scared indeed, but as long as you get through the first time, the left is as easy as eating an apple pie . Ask me and I will answer if I can
all you do is
put the update.zip on the root of your sdcard (i.e. no folders)
power down your phone and boot into recovery with home and power
(optional but may be required if your phone doesn't boot all the way up.)
wipe your phone.
flash the rom
reboot and wait for phone to boot up
choose to skip signing into google
set up your wifi
open the market and you can sign into google on wifi and be able to download apps.
OMG IT WORKED! thanks to all of you
hopefully it wont crash in the future!

Rooting ?

Soooo folks , my Baby has arrived yesterday and now i have following Question:
Anyone know how to root this shard? Same as Hero? .... I don´t think so...
Thx for Answers
how did u get it so fast. where did u buy it from?
I think rooting the Legend would be like for the Nexus One, because it's the first 2.1 OS to be rooted, anyway why would you root it if no dev made a ROM yet?
We will have certainly modded ROMs with fully working Live Wallpapers but give them a little time

If the Legend is not Rooted we can't install APK games and apps?
It's exciting to see the Legend finally released. But I'm waiting for the Desire
About the apps. I'm sure we can install any apk files on the Legend. As for the paid apps bought on the Hero, you can get the apk file from your Hero using Root Explorer. I have purchased one application and the apk file is located in /system/sd/app-private folder.
The problem here is that if the developer relases an update to the market you won't be able to update your app!!!
So I found my Apps in Hero in /data/app so i can install them to Legend... thats important for first time and later when Rooted then i will use Market...
Bootloader mode, may be helpful for anyone ....
Does Anyone has a solution for rootingthe phone and activate then Market Enabler... Here in Belgium we have the same problem...
is it possible to root it without reinstalling a new rom ?
thx
Yes, i mean it will be possible , we need to wait a bit ... i´m in contact with one dev that working already on the solution ...
Stupid question, but what does rooting does? Is it like gaining full admin rights? Also what is the market activation thing people talk about?

Rooting gives you access to functions that're normally shielded from the end-user. Yes, this means you can do more, but you should also be aware of the risks. First and foremost tampering with the software in the device will always void your warranty. Moreover if your machine somehow has vulnerabilities, and they're exploited, they'll not only have regular access but they'll have full admin access to your phone. It happened to the iPhone, which resulted in ransomware being installed on some iPhones (hacked ones where the terminal password wasn't changed by the owner upon rooting it). So it'll give you plenty of extra's, but do read up on what you're doing.
MarketEnabler is an app which allows you to set different regions for the market. Then you'll be able to download apps which might not be available in your region (developers can control in which regions they want to sell their apps, and some regions don't have paid apps yet).
I'm not worried about warranty. Besides you can always flash a official rom back right?
Checked up some more on rooting and it doesnt seem too usefull yet? Removing default apps you dont use and move the cache to SD card seems to be the most usefull at the moment. And maybe running apps from SD though that doesnt seem fail safe and google is working on that anyway right?
Sorry for the questions. I get plenty of experience with WiMo but this will be the first time I get a android phone so its kinda like having to learn things all over again
On WiMo its sooo each Just flash and find you .cab's and your good to go. About that, does android actually have some decent copy protection? or is it like wimo where you only need a .cab or the iPhone that also runs whatever you want after jailbreak?
When i look in the settings menu there's also an option accesibility only its shield of.
Does a root give me acces to this option?
I'm currently thinking of getting a Vodafone-branded Legend since it's much cheaper here in my region.
How are the chances of getting rid of the branding (it's software-only, just 2 links on the home screen and a boot animation) and to upload the original rom image to the phone? I want to have the latest updates on the phone when they're released by HTC...
Your going to need a hacked SPL to be able to change the boot image... and as this phone has just been released I'm guessing your chances are very slim at this point in time..
What i mean is to replace the complete ROM with the stock ROM from HTC.
What i've heard is that future updates will probably be released later for the branded phones, so i just want to have updates for the ROM as early as possible.
Most probably it's too early to make any assumptions here.

Well, for the Legend there aren't too much options yet, but for the Hero there's a ****storm of custom ROM's, from leaked 2.1 ROMs to AOSP (Android Open Source Project) vanilla Android builds ( means without HTC's modifications). So for me (not a developer), it's a matter of waiting 'til the device gets rooted and some custom ROMs start popping up. 'Til then: no, rooting won't do you much good .

[Q] Help a Noob want to root and run Cyanogenmod from stock 2.3.6 GRK39F

Hi there I've got and given some help over in the Acer Iconia A500 forum and now i'm hoping I can receive some over here.
I've always just had the stock version of Android on my Nexus, and now that it looks like it's not going to be updated again I'm ready to Root and Rom.
I'm especially looking forward to pushing a bunch of apps over to the SD card (I'm constantly battling the low memory warning)
There is a lot of information out there on rooting this phone but unfortunately most of it seems a bit dated when I look at the posts. most of it seems to be pre-gingerbread.
So, if I have a stock 2.3.6 GRK39F build, how do I start out?
So far form the Wiki I've managed to get the ADB working and USB drivers (Win 7) installed and have my device acknowledged.
From the wiki I've managed to Unlock the boot loader, and wiped my phone :-(
Now what? what is the next step??
Since I've unlocked the boot loader can I now DL cyanogenmod and install it?
or is there more to do?
What's the diffidence between root and unlocking the bootloader?
Thanks for the help guys. I'm sure this is all easy for you now.

After unlocking the bootloader install a custom recovery.
Either CWM or Amon Ra your choice.

Follow up question. I just unlocked the boot loader so I know I don't have root access.
After I flash cyanogen will i have root access by virtue of running that ROM?
Yes once you flash cm7 you'll have root access.
OK guys I did it. I got stuck on booting into clockwork for a while. couldn't figure it out then eventually did.
followed all the instructions on
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Nexus_One:_Full_Update_Guide
and got it to work.
Thanks guys!
Ok, I hit a snag.
After installing CM7 I notice that there is no Google voice search on the main search box and no Voice to text in the messaging app? where to find / install google voice search/ voice to text?
U have to download VOICE SEARCH app from market for that feature to work

Help another noob...
I found this thread while trying to make sure I have the most up-to-date links for rooting my new Nexus One, 2.3.6, and GRK39F.
Considering this thread is over a year old, and I wasn't sure what wiki the original poster was referring to, I thought would post to see if there are new developments to rooting my N1...
I'm posting this from xp with google usb ver7 drivers installed through sdk. I also have Windows 7 if I have to use that laptop.
I managed to flash my wife's Stratosphere, but this is really pushing my tech limits....
Thanks!

Read the Nexus One Wiki in this Q&A so you can get a sense of the overall process and then proceed to work on your phone. I recommend that you search rooting process for Nexus One on youtube once you have finished reading the wiki.

I'm glad I rooted and ran CM7 when I did, because about a week after I did all the work my power button crapped out and if not for CM7 and it's "push track ball to wake" feature I would have been SOL.
I haven't gone back to check the links that I used but I know that they worked for me. Good luck mate.
PS I managed to eek another 6 months of use out of my device before retiring it and getting a G Nexus.
Thank you for your responses. Yesterday, I tried rooting without unlocking the bootloader, and it seemed like everything performed as expected, but several apps that require rooting said that my N1 is not rooted. So, I tried rooting, but I'm only getting "Waiting for device." I open the command prompt from the Platform-tools folder, SDK shows that I have the necessary drivers installed...
I'll go back and read the Wiki as suggested, and see what I can learn.
Thanks, again!

Ok i understand that you think it should work even though it is not the same nomenclature. Why should i believe that it should work when the nomenclature is different? What are my available options of in fact ir doesnt work and my device is bricked? I saw on other post in this forum on th 807p and it appears the person in that thread now has a bricked device that can not be recovered. So you see my reluctance to trust something that isnt clearly marked as for use with the nomenc.ature of my device. Thanks for your help with this.

He'll need a copy of the recovery file that's inside the rom file. So you'll need access to the full file which I'm not sure it's even been released (try and get it so you have a copy for the future).

No downloads on the Sprint and Samsung sites...
Samsung tablets are fairly hard to destroy as long as you can access recovery (and use Odin to flash a stock ROM) or get this Kies program to work.
i considered trying to extract the recovery.img but after installing android studio and the Java jdk, there seems to be some issue with android studio not recognizing the jdk path so I quit. . If you have some ideas, I'd be glad to take in any assistance you have.
