Help! Ubuntu Linux HTC Touch Pro 2 HTCFlasher SPL JumpSPL - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile ROM Development

So,
I am trying to flash a custom ROM to my Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 using Ubuntu Linux 9.10 Karmic Koala.
There is a utility called slightly-dated Linux utility called HTCFlasher
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=399762
that has been reported to work in the HTC Diamond, and I feel it will work on the HTC Touch Pro 2. However, there is no Linux utility to HardSPL the phone and reach the tri-color bootloader screen.
I have tried to execute SSPL-Manual-RhodiumV1_10.zip from the Rhodium SPL sticky thread
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=550131
and I installed to the root directory of my phone, however it doesn't seem to function on my phone (spinning wheel, and no black screen).
Is there a JumpSPL or similar program I can load into the phones memory that will work on a Sprint HTC Touch Pro 2 (Rhodium400)?
NOTE: I did successfully bring the phone to a black screen using VirtualBox (non-OSE) and executing RhodiumW-HardSPL_V1_10R3.exe on a Windows XP Guest OS. However, the ActiveSync loses connection and the VirtualBox fails to attach the USB device identified as "HTC Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM" I gave up after playing with Virtualbox USB filters, fstab, etc...
Can anyone provide me with a working Manual-SPL that I can execute from the phone?
Or has anyone managed to HardSPL this phone without using a Windows Computer?

try with program which calls WINE on linux, it can run windowses programs in exe format and run the RUU of windows not linux

Quickest way will be bringing it to your work/coworker/friend and do it here

The phone must be Activesync-ed in order to run the HardSPL.exe, WINE doesn't seem to be an option.
Not using a Windows comp is the goal here.
Any Linux gurus out there?

I'm halfway decent with Linux and I wouldn't even attempt this. The phrase "asking for trouble" springs to mind
You only have to HardSPL once, after that you can flash ROMs using Linux just put the ROM on the SD card and flash that way.

Yeah, that's how I see it too. I'm all for FOSS, but sometimes Windows has its place. I'd rather use Windows to HardSPL once than brick my phone forever.

I solved the problem by getting a Pre-hacked phone

FLASHING MY MDA ROM WITH A MAC

Trying to figure out if anyone out there's been able to flash their device using a MAC? All the ROM's are EXE files and need to be run off a PC. Is there a way around this?

Possibly under emulator, but the flashing process is so timing-sensitive that I don't know if it would work. You could try it, but if it gets stuck mid-flash, you'd then HAVE to find a PC to complete a successful flash.
that's a possibility. i was hoping there was a specific way of doing this with the MAC. virtual PC doesn't really seem like a good idea to me.
thanks for the suggestion,
whalien
it's possible with Mac Intel
If you have a Mac Intel there are 2 ways:
1) Use bootcamp and install Windows XP, check www.apple.com/bootcamp
2) Use parallels, a very good/fast Virtual Machine, and install Windows XP, chek www.parallels.com
no intel nooooooooo....
unfortunately i have no intel mac at this time and don't plan on getting one. waiting for the new desktop to come out first. any other thoughts?

What about SD Flashing?
I'm looking to get an mda, and this would be a deciding factor.

Stuck with Vista

I cannot get any thing to work with Windows Vista. I never had problems with XP and my other Wizard. I had it replaced through the insurance. Please help me. I have been through the threads claiming to have some way of tricking Vista with old drivers. I have installed them and had no change. Read all the threads!!
So Dont do it!!!
Man some versions work some doesnt... TRY XP men if you dont have problems since your first Wizard and xp use.
Dont be in panic mode, is not prooved even if many thread said that.
I'm just pissed, i had a great ROM running on my old phone. now i am stuck with a computer running Vista Ultimate and Mobile 5 on he replacement phone. I was hoping somebody found a way to run these Roms through Vista successfully.
Vista support for Windows Mobile is really hit and miss, it works for some, and not at all for others....your best bet is finding a friend with XP and upgrading it there.
Not G4 specific, moved > Upgrading
i use vmware with an xp image to mod my phone, i run vista x64.
Upgrade vista with all available service packs then download the latest version of WMDC from microsoft
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center.mspx#download
and try flashing then
If you still have problems try replacing the ruuupgrade files with Muns ones and use these to flash http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=52404&d=1190997171
if that doesnt work then you havent done what i just said

I cannot flash my Wizard now that I have Vista 64-bit. I have followed many different methods that I have found on XDA in the last few days. I've downloaded and ran many different RUU tools, nothing gets me past the RUU crashing.
The one problem that I get hung up on is while installing a new driver for the Pocket PC (wceusbshx64.inf) in device manager I get the error message that the driver is not signed, I click next anyways. I then get the following message "The driver may be corrupt or missing (Code 39)".
Any other ideas? I'm having flashing withdrawals.............
Thank you for your help
Anyone that knows away to get around the above problems? Luckily I still have my XP computer upstairs, so I can still flash new roms. But I would like to keep it all on one computer (Vista)
Thanks
Some day...

Thanks, I remember seeing that thread before. I'll have to find XP and give it a try. The XP disk I have is for another computer so I'm not sure it will work.

Installing ROM using Vbox?

Hi all,
Sorry if this has already been covered.
Can anyone tell me if they have sucessfully installed a new ROM when running Windows through Virtualbox? My current OS is Ubuntu and from what i have read there are only limited sync functions with Linux.
Also can i install a ROM on a sim locked handset? My handset is in Orange UK, and i plan on keeping the Orange SIM in it. The only other handset i installed a ROM on was a vanilla TYTN so sim lock wasn't an issue.
Thanks in advance

Yes , I've mate bit in different setup i have Vista 64bit so i can't use it flash my TOuch HD so i used my vmware xp to flash my phone and it work fine
so i hope is should for virtual box too
If ActiveSync works in your virtual environment, then it should go smoothly. You can also flash your TouchHd without vbox. Just copy (in massive storage device mode which ubuntu should recognize straight away) blacimg.nbh on the memory card and restart phone pressing vol down button.
i think it should work

Yes. If you run HardSPL or USPL you can install pretty much any cooked rom currently available to your phone. This bypasses all that locking crap

Why can't you use Vista 64bit to flash? Mine works perfectly.
Thanks for all your help. I've installed ActiveSync (WMDC) on the the Windows 7 beta but can't get it to recognise my handset through vBox. Possibly a Win7 issue or just my set up. I'll create a Vista box and try that.
@ Sidewinder - Can you run the HardSPL from flash or does it need ActiveSync?
Thanks again
I want to bring up the old topic because I have problems attaching my Touch HD to VirtualBox guest OS.
My host OS is Windows 7 and guest OS - Windows XP SP3.
HTC storage works pretty well I I'm selecting Disk Drive after connecting my device to PC.
ActiveSync also works well in my VBox. In that case I'm selecting Devices-> USB Devices -> Generic NDIS. The phone disappears from Host OS and appears in VirtualBox. Active Sync recognizes it and everything's OK.
But if I want to flash my phone I need to press vol down and then power on. After doing that I'm connecting my phone to PC. Host OS recognizes it as Qualcomm device. Serial changes to USB on my phone.
And then I'm trying to add that new USB device called "Qualcomm .. something" to vbox. When I'm doing it - vbox guest OS screen freezes and nothing happens.
Any ideas how to solve that? Do I need to install HTC drivers (modified drivers) for my Windows 7 host OS?

My PC is now mine. It is in domain and controlled by AD and GPO and bitlocker is ON. So I can't press F8 during boot to select "disable driver signatures". So the only option - flash it from Virtual machine in my case. Unless flash it from SD card (which I don't like).

Flashing from a MAC?

I am in the unfortunate situation of being in a Mac only house. I really miss my PC, but that is for another day. Anyway, I need to update the rom on my phone. I know I have to get HSPL onto my phone before I can flash a new rom. I have fusionware and parallels runing on my mac, but can not get either to work to flash HSPL onto the phone. Is there anyway to flash HSPL onto the phone via the memory card, or is there any way to do it with a Mac? If so, can anyone please point me to the right direction.

you can try to move the folder that contains roms file to my document first
if you use virtual desktop
i can not say that it works, but maybe you will try it.
install wine for mac
load the Mono implementation of .Net for Windows (http://www.go-mono.com/mono-downloads/download.html klick on windows and load the first "mono for windows...")
install it with wine
than use the manual method of flashing.
pack the SSPL-Manual-TouchHD on your phone and start it
you will see the bootloader in a older version (1.07 or so)
than start the HSPLWrapper_Blackstone_156OliNex with wine and hope that wine/mono/HSPL will find your phone ...
when it works, you can flash you new ROM via SD Card.

i have a macbook...flashing from the mac i found a bit hit and miss...in fact connecting the phone at all was something that sometimes worked an sometimes not..althought this may simply be the way i have (or have not) got things configured.
i found the easiest way was to use BootCamp and instll Win XP on the boot Camp partition...
...start the macbook in windows mode (runs natively on macbook (intel)) and then flash as you would from windows

upgrade rom htc hd with WM7 64bit

upgrade rom htc hd with Windows 7 64bit creates a problem? can do it without active sync?
edit: does not make me change the title
just copy the .nbh file in your sdcard root and rename it BLACIMG.nbh, turn off the phone and keep pressed vol down + power button, job done, happy flashing.
btw i'm using windows 7 64bit and works fine, you can flash without worries.
What you can try, is to place the HD in tricolor mode, when the device is off, push on the low sound button and keep it press while pushing the power button until you see the tri-color mode.
After that, connect your HD trought USB to your PC. Wait until the PC have load the drivers.
And Run the rom upgrade program "as an administrator".
Normally, it should work.
ALF it works also the old way, just run the RuuWrapper that comes with the rom and it will ask for administrator privileges, press next and update the rom. This method needs active sync.
W7 64 bit and touch HD
I have all my computers with windows 7 64 bit. I have no problem sync the HD, or flash. I have not seen anyone comment about it, so here you go- from trying it, no problems at all. Actully, it works better than it was with XP.

ovviamente non debbo usare il vecchio active sync vero....
course I must not use the old active sync true ....
Thank you all for the clarifications
usually use the USPL but does not work
upgade from the SD don't start remains in bootloader
depend by the SD ....
Please optimize the head of this Thread from "with WM7 x64" to "via Win7 x64". I was really confused cause I wondered if I could find an early WM7 (Windows Mobile 7) in an 64 bit edition in here. Maybe you could change the title to not confuse any more people? WM7 -> Win7!
Thanks,
Future
you know the USPL 2.5 works with Windows Vista?
can someone give a full "step-by-step" to perform the ROM upgrade successfully?
Hi, I referred to this web page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3625567&postcount=272
It does not sound as easy as this topic. I tried to upgrade the driver, wceusbsh.sys, Windows does not allow it (said does not match the manufacturer), and the steps given do not work at all. What other software is needed? Please provide link to get them.
I am trying to upgrade from WM6.1 to TOUCH_HD_WWE_21882_231109 (Duly maryone). Thanks for helping. I am using Windows 7 64-bits.
There aren't problems with Windows 7 64-bit and rom flashes. Also, your thread has absolutely nothing to do with Windows Phone 7 so please correct the erroneous subject.

are you sure you understand the issue?
Win7 driver for HTC USB is NOT compatible with those RUU Loader.
And you need to restore the XP one which DOES NOT have digital signature.
Win7 users need to press F8 before booting windows and choose disable signature check (something like that) option. And you will be able to install the unsigned driver for flashing.
So, please correct your erroneous statement.
