temp pulled - Touch CDMA Android Development

One of the users reported something happen with their phone, I don't know if it's related but until I figure it out for sure I've pulled the build.
Until I can be sure guys if you updated with the latest version please flash back to a different nbh and use a different build.
Personally I've had no issues with this but I want to be sure.
As CP0020 posted here; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=664941 we think it's just from flashing the NBH so many times it may have worn out the nand. It's the same failure I had when my phone died. However as we are still unsure I'm not comfortable continuing development and releasing. If anyone wants to take over where I left off on this they can.

Awesome. Downloading now.

does gmail work? can i sync my contacts?
EDIT: i saw in your txt file to use market to setup account, not wizard

Here's what I'd call the Beta of the new eclair sense build.
This must either be installed to sd card paritions or using the ext2 file. DO NOT try to install to your nand.
I still don't have the google apps figured, though apparently the people with the g1 port don't have it going either
This is not a port of the G1 build but our very own.
As with all Hero based builds you must be using a 320x480 nbh.
What doesn't work;
bluetooth, wifi, google apps
As always I AM NOT responsible if it breaks anything
Enjoy

Good to see that you are back!! Do you have a list of features of this?

I'm sure this has been answered somewhere, and I apologize if it has, but can I run an SD card build on top of my NAND somehow? And then switch back to NAND w/o data loss if I don't lke it? Thanks.

you bet, use the installer, install to sd..
when you want to switch back, in the options just change the installer settings back to system on nand and data on nand and exit without installing anything..

cool, i will try this out. I dont have partitions on my sd. I assume i need to do this first. Can i create a partition without wiping my sd card?

This has some real potential. It seems a little slow but I'm guessing that has more to do with my crappy sd card than the build.
I'm interested in seeing where this build goes.
Great to see you back mssmison.

It runs fantastic on nand.. with some optimization I expect it will run really well. Also there's no swap or anything running with this build, that would make a huge difference no doubt.
just no free space at all.. lol

i know the answer is prolly a no
but will this have the multi-touch like shown in that video,
if it does thats awesome but i didnt think its possible with resistive touch screens

No root yet, so miss the versitility of the vogue at the moment. I need a new one because i have some unfinished business here.

I should have mentioned this runs much better if you use the nbh from my eclair post.

I've gotten gapps working properly, just getting bluetooth up to snuff.
Will post soon.

What app do I use to make my phone act as a router and/or tether? I can't find Tether Wifi in the market... is there another app you recommend? I do not live in a 3g area... this would be only used at a beach house with no internet... I realize edge is slower but its better than nothing. Is this possible?

Any advice on pimping out the G1? I saw a video on youtube where the guys dialer was large rectangular buttons, maybe purple too... how do you get this? (better keyboard?) I've been looking at Teds Hero Theme, waiting on a version for Cyan 3.6.8.1. Do I need to delete open home after/before a theme, does not seem like it will be of any use after I do this hero theme from Ted, right?

What is the recovery.img file that is used in that manual, and do I need another one if I am using Cyanogens (v3.6.8.1) stable rom?
-2-
I saw at one point a thread that had the names of common items and what they meant but can't find it (ie, why I dont know why what a img file is or does). Can anyone shed some light on this, or know where that thread is?

The manual also made it seem like I needed to load a JF build. After my root I went straight to cyanogen. Does this matter? Did I lose something by not doing JF first? Is there a backup anywhere (other than the files I moved from my SD card to my computer before formatting it)?

Its fine that you went straight to cyanogens rom. Its good to load cyanogens new recovery (1.4), its in the pimped out recovery and all instructions are in there. There are different ways to partition a sd card, the way I do mine is thru Ubuntu (tuturial is in my sig). Wifi tether for root users is what allows your phone to act as a router. Theres alot of cool apps, you just got to play with them to figure them out or narrow down what your trying to find out. And theres a search feature, use that or be flamed if you ask repeated questions.

Get cyan pimped out recovery. The instructions are fool proof how to dow it.
-2-

Look in the informative thread sticky in the dev subforum

No, it's cool that you went straight to cyan. See when that guide was written those were the most popular roms that's why they are there.
-4-
Do I need to load any other cyanogen things on my phone? On his thread it lists things like Audio resources, pimped out recovery image, etc.
I would load the Audio resources since those are your ringtones and notification tones. Though if you plan on making your own it isn't really necessary. As for the recovery image you should definitely download. The instructions are easy and simple so just read.

Yeah, I promise I do search, but again I just kinda seem to go from one thing to another and then I realize there are several ways to do the same thing.
Regarding the partition, no offense taken... but I'm not comfortable enough with the process so thought I would try and get more guidance than what I can find in the several threads with different methods.

I see where you are coming from since I too am a noob. So I'm guessing you're rooted and have a custom rom installed already. Soo here is the guide I used to partition my SD card. It is a very, self-explanatory guide. I have no computer programming background and this guide made it seem easy to me. You're going to need cyan's pimped out recovery. Like I said just find that thread and it has the directions to install it. As for apps, I found what I thought was cool browsing the app forum here and on androidcommunity.com

Exactly that... its a backup of basically your entire phone from the point that you created the backup, if you happen to flash another ROM and you don't like it, or it breaks, you can hit the restore option and return to this moment in time for you phone.

bare with me ONE MORE Q RE: NANDROID
I have created a nandroid backup, copied the folder from my SD card to my computer for emergencies.
If I add a new ROM and wipe.... how would I restore my phone? The backup I created would be erased from the phone right? And the backup on my computer would be from another rom, does that matter (assuming no, but I dont know the first thing about how to restore my phone from doing a wipe).
Thank you all... incredible forum.

when you wipe everything on your sd remains only data from the phones internal is wiped, so as long as you didnt delete it from sd after backing up to computer your good. Also worse come to worse you can use a card reader to get it on there..
As far as your settings and stuff reseting, thats why some people get to lazy to wipe you can try my backuppro (i use this) or backup for root (dont know to much about) to back up your settings, bookmarks, sms, and contacts if youd like. Note though that your contacts and all that will come back after signing back into google, and your apps will also remain on the sd..
^ ahh... completely forgot that the SD card was left intact after a wipe. That makes perfect sense and thank you thank you. I have backup for root now but will go to the market and try your app. THank you!

G1 to Hero Firmware?

I haven't messed with root or any type of firmware in a while.
I have a G1 with firmware 1.5 CRB43 and kernel 2.6.27.24.
I was wondering about that new HERO firmware that was released recently that is supposedly really fast, is it possible to flash this onto a G1? Does anyone here use it, if so how do I upgrade to it.
I find the android development section really messy and hard to understand, there is so many versions of everything and its pretty overwhelming - if anyone could help it would be appreciated

Yes this is possible. I'm currently running JACxHEROSki-v1.8 with no problems, other than typical HERO issues. [No Blue Tooth] Make sure you do your research.
I. 3 Part partition your sd card. (FAT32, EXT3/EXT4, Linux-Swap 64 or 96MB)
II. Install latest Radio
III. Install latest SPL
IV. Wipe Phone
V. Install Hero Rom
VI. Bliss!

you're last step is so optimistic. you might want to include though that if there was a cupcake rom installed and a2sd was previously running that a wipe of the ext3 is needed as well.
@gt5oh
you need to wipe your ext3 partition any time when switching between a hero and cupcake rom. or at least the app_s folder and dalvik cache
Ive never had my SD card partitioned - I have a class 6 8gb card - how do I split it 3 ways like mentioned above?
(no wonder I get so much lag, everything is running off my phone memory and not my SD card..)

Im sure you can also find a guide inside of these forums as well, but I used this one. Very simple, with pics too. If your thinking about running HERO, just make sure your Linux-Swap is around 64-96MB. I run mine at 128MB linux-swap and I have no HTC loading screens or lag what so ever.

those were on engadgnet, are there any roms based on that new firmware yet? its supposed to be really smooth
Im pretty computer savy and I still cant figure out where to get started on updating my phones firmware to a fast Hero build.
I need to get the ball rolling and everything I read just confuses me more, there seems to be a million ways to do everything - does anyone have a solid guide that worked for them?
you're making this so much harder than it really is
partition your sdcard (fat32, roughly 500mb ext3, linux-swap)
(if it is already partitioned wipe your ext3 partition with mke2fs -j /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 )
put the hero rom on your phone. i hear the newest jacski is good or akiarah
wipe your phone
flash the rom
reboot
give it a while to boot up, then give it a while to start the setup wizard (basically go make a sandwich and eat it)
set up your phone
yay you now have hero. (if you're me, 30 minutes later say screw this and go back to cyanogen's rom)

Yep, no Hero rom is stable enough if you actually need your phone out in the wild to function near perfectly. If you rely on it for anything business related then stick with cyan or xrom.

looking to hero! Some questions

Hello all,
I'm curious about somethings for turning my g1 to the hero (rosie?) rom (wow it looks beautiful).
The first being Where can I actually find it? I found two sites that offer it but doesn't seem like its from the developer themselves (who I'd trust more).
Secondly, which developer has the best performance (e.g. speed, ect.). I've read that it is a deadly slow Rom and I already lack patience for my g1 now (It's the stock firmware). The hero its self looks much smoother, am I wrong?
If I can't risk my phone being bricked should I bother trying it? (I had it JF rooted in the summer which I did successfully on my first try, and I un-rooted it.)
Is there a text document with how to install with a video that coincides?
Lastly, Is Cyanogen a better rom? (this has next to nothing to do with the hero rom )
Hopefully I didn't miss a thread on this I searched for like an hour.

You cant just start driving, you have to learn the basics. When you get in a car there a many things that you need to do first is learning and even taking test.
You must have root first and a recovery image and im guessing your all stock. The dream section has all the info needed to root now is up to you to decide if you want to read it.
-Best regards
Thank you. I am very comfortable with the rooting process. I just don't want to do it unless the rosie rom is worth it!
Basically, Hero is incomplete. It doesn't have Bluetooth nor full Google Voice integration, and it runs 1.5. However, at the rate the devs are going on Hero 2.1 the version it runs could change very soon.
For now, stick with Cyanogen as it is a better Rom. Hero doesn't really work on the G1, it's slow and there is a lot of core function missing. It will never be an everyday ROM. I think of it like a concept car. Its cool in a "look what we can do" sort of way, but just wait for the next HTC Android phone.

Its not slow...You must be running a super old version..Hero 2.1 roms and 1.5 roms are both very fast...King's 2.1 is very fast and close performance to cyanogen, please dont misinform people. All current hero roms are fast, in a 2.1 rom you can achieve 20mb+ free ram which is about the same to a cyanogen rom. Maybe you used a old jac rom months ago.

I'm sorry to say, but no I have tried many Hero configurations on my class 6 as recently as a month ago. The fact is that even if there were drivers for all of the hardware over time Hero really starts to bog down. It will not always perform after that post-setup peak it has.
If you want working hero wait until the first 2 weeks of January when the Passion comes out.

Going to try this tonight. Read and watched the videos. seems very simple. thank you!
need help!
When following this guide http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/22/ho...ps2sd-onto-your-g1-or-mytouch-3g-best-method/ (I already did the one click root with no issues)
In part II of the guide
. Download the custom SPL for your device:
T-Mobile G1 – Here
MyTouch 3G – Unneccessary, skip this section and proceed to Section III.
3. Plug in your phone and mount the SD card (pull down on the notification bar and select the SD card notification then click Mount in the pop up window).
4. After the SD card shows up on the computer, put the SPL zip file on to the memory card.
5. Once it is done transferring to the memory card and you have renamed it, unplug the phone from the computer.
6. Turn off the phone and then turn it back on by holding down the Home and Power button to get to recovery mode (keep holding it until the recovery screen with the writing and black background come up). Here i get to the ! so I hit Alt + L to get to the recovery screen. It gives me the menu to reboot, apply zip, wipe. However at the bottom of the screen it says E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command
7. Once the recovery screen is up, click on Wipe Data. Once that is done, click on Apply Update.zip and wait for it to finish. I wipe the date and then apply zip. I then get this message __ Install from sdcard... Finding update package... Opening update package... Verifying update package... E: No signature (5 files) E: Verification failed Installation aborted
I'm assuming this means the SPL file is corrupt but I don't know much and probably am wrong.
How can I fix this? I got this far with no issues and so close to being done!

Just rename to update not update.zip and make sure the sd is Fat32 not Fat or NTFS.
radio goes first i think make sure you did that section.

Try to redownload the file.
did that twice once from the link in the video and once from http://code.google.com/p/sapphire-port-dream/
both gave me the same results.
UP AND RUNNING JACHERO
Thanks a bunch ace. In the two minutes its been up it's looked as good as I wanted it to!
so my son grabbed it this morning, it froze i took the battery out. Now it keeps going to the hero screens over and over again. what should I do?
If I were you I would try re-flashing. Do you have a custom recovery.img? Like Cyan's or Amon-Ra's? If you do, try wipe cache, wipe ext part, wipe cache, and then re-flash. That's always the first thing I do when my phone starts getting buggy.

Froyo on G1?

I am using Amon-Ra 1.6.2, and i want to get Froyo on my G1.
Is there a way to get it w/o re-rooting it to get clockwork recovery?
Can I still get it if i keep 1.6.2?
I found this tutorial:
http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-install-android-2-2-froyo-on-htc-dream-g1/
Just pick a froyo ROM (Jubeh's ftw) and flash it, you don't need clockwork at all.

Thank you. Do you have any link to his ROM ?
You are more then likely gonna need danger/death SPL as well, of you don't already have it.

This information is ABSOLUTELY FALSE. You DO NOT need deathspl, and in fact, there are FAR FAR better ways of gaining EVEN MORE internal storage than what is offered by deathspl. Look for the "MTD" threads in the dev forum. They can gain you up to about 30 MB MORE free space than deathspl.
Caps...come on now.
What ever, not getting baited into an argument or anything, but it's kinda odd, if you go check the requirements for the majority of the roms they pretty much all have one thing in common...hmm danger/death spl. Yeah, yeah, yeah there are several ways to achieve more space, but if a dev says danger spl is a prerequisite to flashing his rom, which the majority do... Im not the guy that's gonna yell out in caps about it and tell people its bs and tell them to use a nonrecommened method...

... let the people decide, if they want to install the risky DangerSPL or if they want to go with the MTD-method, but give them at least the information, that there are other, most likely better ways.
Only my 2 cent.
Sent from my Htcclay's Superfly G1 using XDA App
Heh, yeah, call me old fashioned, I just like to use the good old standards & its really not risky as long as you know how to follow directions, but yeah anything with "danger" or "death" in the title you should take with caution...
its the oddest thing though, these forums have an amazing amount of information in them if people would just do a little searching...
Sent from my phone.
Requirements for ROMs were written before MTD was invented. Devs are reffering to Haykuro SPL because of need for space - MTD gives you SAME result. Of course, engeneering SPL gives you some pros like ability to flash radio from fastboot or other great features, but if you not interested in that kind of changes - you can flash 2 zips without any risk of brick and you're good to go, you have either more space at /system and far more space on /data for your apps.
I have done everything to make froyo run on my G1..but everytime i am unable to make my market and browser work..else everything is fine with me...
market:
unable to download apps
browser:
wont even open google.com displays "web page not found"
have done full wipe and Flashed 1.3 so many times still the result was same...

Something wrong? If you don't provide us with needed info, we have to ask for it. If you have problem and want help with it, please give all needed information about your phone. I don't know from your post if any other programs have or do not have problems with data transfer. Of course, I may guess from your statement:
else everything is fine with me...

But again, what is everything? I don't know if it means "any other app has no problem with connecting to Internet" or "I have no other problems with this ROM". And I don't even know what ROM you are using. Everything was OK on previous software?

I am usign EDGE data connection....and i have a readio 2.22.23.02 and a danger SPL also RA 1.7.0 still i am dacing issue..though any eclair ROM running gr8..no problem in that
i recc you stick with jubeh's aosp...But some things might be broken(im not 100%) or use HTCclay's Froyo http://forum.androidspin.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1683
Clay has been doing excellent work since last year, he made great donut, eclair, and know froyo rom(s). Im using his right now and it blows away CM6 by a long shot. It feels much smoother and everything feels like it should. Plus its easy on the eyes too.

CM6 is super slow and crappy on my G1, so I'm looking for another Froyo ROM. Now that I've already installed DangerSPL, can I safely run ROMs that don't require it? Does it just clear some extra space? Is DeathSPL different from DangerSPL?

They are the same, but you will have difficulties to find a FroYo ROM which is not based on CM6 ...

If it's "based on" CM6, but runs faster and more reliably by making stuff leaner or support swap, apps2sd, etc, then that would be fine.

Bad Signal, other problems, help.

Had my Hero for a little over a year now. Been rooted for most of that time. Currently running Aosp from 02-10-11. I also have 2.6.29.6 Aosp Kernel. Not sure if any other info needed. I have normal coverage where I live and mostly everywhere else except where I work. I drop calls all the time, lose data, etc. I called Sprint and was told its my Hero, not the network. They said they have a new tool that tells them what is causing the problem, so its def my phone. I also have terrible battery life, and my phone is laggy as hell. I just want to know what my best option would be. Should I go to the Sprint store and have them replace my phone? Should I start from scratch (rooting wise) and take it from there? Or should I just wait for the Evo 3D to come out and suck it up? Just not sure which road to take. Any help is GREATLY appreciated. And sorry if this has been asked previously, I did some searches and couldnt find much info.
To see if it's on your end, do a fresh install of your favorite ROM on its latest release. Preferable latest aosp or cyanogen stable. If it's still laggy, hardware. If not, then your hero is good. For the network, after you install a ROM, run a speed test. Then update to the latest prl. Run again. If it gets better, than great. If not, then proceed to update a Verizon prl. If good, than it's not your hardware. If it is, think about getting a replacement.
Great advice. Dont think I ever updated my PRL. How do I go about doing so and where do I get them? Fresh install is what I was leaning towards.

please go here and read the thread, if it's been a while you'll want to do the update manually, the most recent PRL is 01115.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046899
Lol Big duce is on the ball baby! Hooah!
Ok Im sold. Gonna update the PRL following the instructions in that thread. After that its a fresh install of either cm7 or aosp. Last question...Does a fresh install consist of wiping the data/factory reset and thats it? Or am I missing something? Again, TY so much. Quick response as well.
You on clockwork? You should if you aren't.
And a fresh install to me is wiping the dalvike, boot, cache, system, and data. Then installing the ROM.
I see everything except for boot, and system. And Im on Clockwork 2.5.0.7
I'm on 3.0.2.4, but in that version it's in the mount section.
Gotcha! Heres goes nothing.
