I know it is annoying to ask, but GPS not working.. - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

I got a 2nd hand diamond from eBay and imidiately face the GPS problem. I used a few HTC phones before. This is the first time.
I tried to read all the threads related to this GPS-not-working issue until this mroning 3AM. I still got no clue what is the definite solution. Can someone point out the direction? Or forum boss may stick it somewhere? Cheers

I hope something there might help you.
Good Luck!

That is for CDMA?

cdma is a phone system
phone systems have nothing to do with gps it's two 100% separate systems
gps are signals received from satellites
where cmda is signals transitived from and to land-based cellphone towers

Hi!
In case the GPS is working, how usable is it?

I went through that thread and found some guy like me asked 'my phone is Vodafone ...'. He got a repsonse like 'you use GSM, this is for CDMA. So better you find somewhere else like......XDA-Developer'.....???.....!!! I was confused by that.
So tell me, I can just follow the thread and use the software there to 'cook' my Diamond?
Cheers!

Very useful.
I currently use O2 XDA ORBIT. I travell arround the Europe and USA. I always use TTN in my ORBIT. It picks up the signal in seconds. I went to Portugal a few weeks ago and it even picked up signal inside the hotel (I did show that to the waitor and told him 'your roof is a bit thin...').
A few years ago, I rented a car from Hertz together with on-car GPS called 'NeverLost'. It was right to be called NeverLost...because it never picked up the signal.

Kaiser issues.

Ive owned my new Kaiser for a week now and thought I'd share some issues. The first is there is no internet sharing on the current rom. It currently uses wmodem with dun and I cant seem to get it to work right. I want my internet sharing (PAN) that my tytn had back. Another issue is that there is no external antenna connector on the back of the phone. I didnt know this when I ordered the phone and I need it for the weak signals that I get in certain areas when I travel. The battery drains much faster than the tytn I had, and I cant really figure out why. I cant tell if the GPS is staying on and draining the battery when Im done using it because there is no real way to tell. Other than these issues it's an awesome phone and the gps seems to work great, but I would like to get the internet tethering to work so I can use it with my laptop on the road. Has anyone had any luck with this?
Hi
The Kaiser has not yet been officially released, and the units out there are BETA/Test units, where did you get yours?
Because so few people have one and you are unlikely to be using the final ROM that everyone will get when it's officially released, I can't see you getting any help with your problems just now.
You will need to wait for the official release and hope someone puts the ROM up so you can at least get the latest version of the software.
Regards
Phil
Thanks Phil, I got mine on ebay from a nice man in Europe that frequents this site. I buy everything on ebay. I understand the situation with the beta test models, but you would think there would be other people with beta test models in the same situation that might be able to help out. You would also think that if htc released a bunch of pre-release (beta) units that they would want feedback from the people that own them. It would be nice to know if someone is working on new test roms for these phones and how you go about getting them. Thanks for the response. Brian
Hmm..if i dont lost my mind i belive that i saw a video review today where they showed the external antenna connector on the back of the phone..
Yeaa i found it again..Here you have the link

Edit
spelling mistake
Oh my god, I fel like an idiot. I t is behind the rubber thing! It said gps on it so I didn't try to pry it up to look under it. Thanks for the help. Now if I could just get this thing to share internet access with my laptop I'd be happy. Does anyone know if theres a internet sharing (PAN) cab file that would enable it on the kaiser! Thanks again for all the help.
Never mind, got it to work, with a couple of files that were posted for me. This forum is great!

GoogleMaps not working

alright i didn't want to have to do this but here it is, i have used the followig roms and radios and gotten the same results:
ryncppr diamond appeal v4
confused stu mobile vista 1.3
shogun deathrom beta v1 and v3
original att rom build 19209
with all 1.65.xx.xx radios i could find except radio from hell.
i am using google maps 2.0.1.18, for a while googlemaps was kickass because i am horrible with directions and i could use google maps to get me from point a to point b without getting lost, my GPS fix was great and was always accurate within a few feet even in my basement of my house. then one day a few weeks ago i stopped being able to get a fix, it says seeking gps sattelites(0) and nothing happens. i live in fenton missouri in the states, fenton is just outside of st. louis and i am covered by a 3g network. i live less than 5 miles from three att towers so i see no reason for my googlemaps to have quit on me unless my phone has gone deffective. if anyone has any idea or can atleast tell me that they have had the same problem i will worry less about it and move on without my little blue and white dot that moves along on my map. thanks in advance you guys are great

I had the same problem with my kaiser all the radios and ROMs in the world wouldnt help, but I got the phone replaced and now it works when using the same radios and ROMs as my previous phone... My bet is that the GPS reciever is broken
you know google maps isnt 100% accurate
thanks that wasn't the answer i wanted but i called att today and they are sending me a refurbished phone, thanks. as for google maps not being 100% accurate, it doesn't have to be, in most places it tells me within a few feet and i use it when i'm driving to new places and i just have to make sure that my little dot is on the purple line or near enough to let me know where i am. i refuse to pay for the crap that att sells because i can get it for free with google maps and i have used it for a year now and this is the first time it failed me, people with telenav complain all the time and this weekend my girlfriend had a run in with a tom tom and it got her lost in the bad side of town my google has never done that
ok so i called att and they sent me a new tilt under warranty, when it arrived the usb port did not work, i could not sync with my computer so i called them and they express shipped me another one after marking the first as DOA. when my second one arrived it had a cracked lcd screen and when people called me i could not hear them and they could not hear me. somewhere in this time frame my GPS fixed itself and they are expecting me to send it to them, do you think they would notice if i sent the three phones they sent me back to them and kept my old one?

Yes because they have identified the phone by the IMEI #. I would call AT&T and explain the situation. Don't see why they wouldn't be accommodating.

Google maps didn't fail you, your phone did. Also I don't see what you being near a major city or a cell tower has to do with a satellite cruising through space.

Google maps can be used without the aid of a GPS. The locations (0) will give you a close location based on the tower(s) location.

T-Mobile UK Serious Reception Issues (DY5 Postcode)

It's been driving me literally mad for the last few days. I've tried different handsets and different SIMs and the problem appears to be with any T-Mobile SIM + 3G handset. Works fine when 3G is disabled. I've lived at DY5 for almost a year now and the reception never let me down until now - from time to time whoever calls me think my phone's off! Did Hard Reset my Kaiser a few times and changed the radio to 1.65.24.36.(Dutty's 6.1 19209 ROM). The other handset MDA Touch Plus(aka Niki) is brand new and has 1.58.21.23 radio. So my questions are:
1 Is there anyone else with a similar problem?
2 How do I fix it?
3 Best radio to ensure good reception in UK?
Any advice is welcome
It looks like everyone in the UK has a fantastic signal....except me of course...
You should probably speak directly to T-mobile because if you look at the Dudley DY5 postcode area here: http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/services/coverage/street-check/ you can see that the coverage should be perfect.
We had a problem at Castle Donington for a while and it turned out that there was a transmitter problem in the area that they were working on. Where I live in the East midlands has terrible reception for an urban area.
The vodafone map is probably more realistic as a lot of companies share the transmitters http://maps.vodafone.co.uk/coverageviewer/web/default.aspx
I can see in the DY5 area there are a few pockets of areas that aren't covered at the moment but will be in 6 months.

By the way I couldn't follow your second link - it says my browser's no good. In fact all three of them. I guess one needs a special voda-complient super browser to access that site

I had the same problem when i was with t-mobil, went to the shop, and they told me to disable 3G, all staff had been advised to do it in the shop aswell.
Im in dudley, and it was the merry hill shop i went to, so maybe it is something to do with the area ?

I discovered that disabling 3G fixes the problem, but then there will be no point for me in staying with T-Mobile. I live a couple of miles away from Merry Hill, so I guess you're the first one to confirm that the reception problem does exist here.

Irish Diamond problems

hi there
i have a touch diamond that was got from holland , unlocked and unbranded
rom version 1.35.401.3 WWE
using the Meteor pre pay network
last week the when making calls the person at the end of the line can not hear a thing im saying
anything I can do to fix this ?
step by step guides ?
thanks
Joe
Wooo! Another Diamond user in Ireland!
I'm also on Meteor pre-pay, but I have a Diamond from the UK (1.37.405.1 WWE). I've had no problems with calls or texts or anything...apart from mobile internet.
The built-in connection settings for Meteor are just wrong. They don't work at all. The WAP settings are available elsewhere on the internet, but I've managed to acquire (after confusing Meteor customer care quite a lot, because they've obviously never even heard of HTC) working mobile internet settings. The only problem is that their prices are ridiculous (2c per KB)...but at least I can check emails and the weather if I really need to.
If anyone wants the proper Meteor mobile internet settings, just ask (or phone customer care...and be prepared for a long conversation).
Oh, getting back to the original problem, have you tried your device on any other network? I would really doubt that the problem is Meteor-specific, because I've never had any problems using HTC devices on Meteor. BTW, aren't the new pre-pay deals really cool? Not sure about that magic mobile genie though...
Alright lads! Where did you get your Diamonds? and for how much? I'm trying to bring one into Ireland, cheapest way?
I would also hazard a guess that it's a phone specific problem, have you tried flashing a different rom?
Meteor Pre Pay here btw... I'm signed up to the 3G test, I get free 3G till the end of August! woohoo! They'll have PAYG deals when they release to the public in October.
i got it from Capti-lux in hollands airport, phone is great like but need to sort out why people cant hear me on it though ! ha
i ever bothered with the internet settings for it as i use the wireless when needed for emails etc , and the 3g will be out in october

This may be just me, but I would try upgrading the radio. I've had the same issues with some of my other htc phones and it always fixed it for me.
I am on Vodafone and no problem with HTC DT on 3G in Galway. I have flashed it with a Diamond Project ROM including the latest radio and had to fix the access point to hs.vodafone.ie
Got mine on Ebay this week from all4ustore_lv for €450, paid last Friday, got delivered this Tuesday! Scary part is the insurance, it shipped as a memory module with value of £50. If you are a frequent visitor to Paddy Power then I suppose you can take this gamble too...

The cheapest way to get a Diamond is probably to get one from eBay or the UK. Some websites don't like delivering to random countries though, so you might have to physically go to a shop if you don't like the eBay. I wonder if they're available in Northern Ireland - I can't see any reason for them not being available there...
3G test! I heard about that, but as I'm only in Ireland erratically I've never really investigated it. I'm here for a while now though - how did you sign up to the 3G test? On 3G do they still charge that crazy 2c per KB? Also, how good is the 3G network (coverage, speed, etc.)?

Flashing in 2 steps:

hardspl 1.24
ROM of your choice such as:

Direct download link:

Follow the instructions and backup anything important.
Ordered the Diamond from the UK the day it was released. Upgraded the rom to Dutty's Diamond Project and it works a treat. On O2 network and getting a Gig a month for €15 so thats pretty good. After Flashing with Dutty's ROM I have freed up about 20% more memory so it runs much smoother.

Is that on some kind of contract?
1GB would cost €20,971.52 on Meteor.

Isn't the "B" stock all of those returned grey imports from HK? Thanks for the tip about TomTom7 in Ireland.
Hey lads, living in the south and I've ordered the Diamond, should have it in a few days.
Up until now I've been using an old Acer n310 (WM5 and no phone capabilities and linked via bluetooth to a GPS module) with iGo 2006 (for about a year) and iGo8 (for the last 2 months). I've been trying TomTom 6 on and off. My job involves driving all around Munster and the iGo maps are far better to the TomTom 6 maps; more complete in terms of small roads, and more road and townland labelling. Also higher accuracy. So I'll be using iGo8 on the Diamond too. I definitely recommend it.
I'd been connecting the Acer to my bluetooth phone to use the internet and get my emails. I'm on O2 billpay and 250mb is €7.50 a month, which is great value. So the Diamond will mean one device instead of 3 for getting my emails, making calls, and navigating around the place.
Isn't there an issue that using alternative ROMs will cause the AGPS to stop working?
TomTom 6 uses the older navtek maps, TomTom7 uses the latest Teleatlas maps, which for W.Cork anyway seemed to have every little road, if you could call it a road. Some of the little lanes in W.Cork just aren't good for your suspension, I mean they are smaller than the width of my car and rougher than the dark side of the moon!
Using TomTom 7 on my Diamond + Uk/Ie Maps been to dublin cork waterford and never had any problems.

Right it seams to be an intermittent problem , could it be something to do with the network signal ?

is it gay T&T, or htc, or is it windows mobile, or is it the qualcomm chipset???

let me start of by saying that thanks to everyone that has left, inquired about or done something on this site to help others in customizing their phones beyond what is normally acceptable. and to the women of the men that have to deal with the guys tinkering around with their phones all day and ignoring you. lol. that being said, i have a few questions that i think after searching this website for almost a year i dont think anyone has targetted. as the title states, what do you think it is. is it possible for 3g devices just to not hold a connection to a tower, even with 3g turned off? i drop calls constantly and i dont mean a dropped call, i mean my phone just looses connection with the tower. 3rd fuze, so many different roms lata, still the same thing. now let me also inform you that i live in a part of town where there really is no coverage inside my house and i accept that fact. but even when i'm sitting outside my house, my phone will go from 2 bars to zero and the bluetooth in my ear keeps beeping till the stupid phone finds the stupid network. now talk about frustration. i have tried an Iphone, i have tried blackberries, i have tried symbian, basically i have tried anything that gay t&t can throw at me in terms of hardware and mind you these handsets are not cheap, i have the same issue in the same spots. i also live in one of the biggest markets in N America for wireless service and using the official coverage viewer, i am currently in a "great" 3g area. this area being the wonderful metroplex of dfw. now after doing some research and lots n lots of playing around with windows phones (going on 5 years) and finding out the downfalls of windows mobile, i am completely willing to accept those downfalls and still wanna use it on a day to day basis. hands down there isn't another OS as open to doing what you want, having the information you want in a efficient way. call me a fanboy but windows still has a hand up in the game even though it still looks like crap and the big 800 pound gorilla that is MS isn't willing to conform to anyone else's standard and make their OS look pretty. its about functionality and to the smart user thats where its at. i have also read a lot on qualcomm and this issue of drivers and performance and how devices that are almost pre historic are running better emulators, videos and the such without any luck on getting performance on the device. okay now that i have written a novel and most of you will be asleep by the time you read this, i need some honest opinions. really what i'm trying to do is figure out where to point the finger. or maybe by having enough ppl ***** about the same problem we might have someone look into better technology that is not only practical but is also reliable. not just one of the two.
thanks to all that got this far. lol

I have split out the key points so this is a bit easier to read,
my first thought was to say its either a hardware fault or you need to upgrade your radio, however I then saw this part of your post....

surely if your getting the same issue on completely different devices then it is a network issue in your area?
it maybe worth a look at getting a pay as you go sim from another network and trying that to see if you get the same issue.
Ril
I have similar AT&Tcoverage issues in my house, but when I have a strong signal, the phone works fine. No dropped calls or lost connections.
If you like the TouchPro, you may want to try Verizon. You can sign-up and have 30 days to cancel if the coverage is not good. One difference between AT&T & Verizon is that AT&T will support simultaneous voice and data connections where Verizon will not. This is why I chose AT&T, but my coverage is so spotty in Charlotte, I wish I had gone with Verizon. The simultaneous feature seemed important, but in practice, I am not sure I have ever needed it.
The only other challenge with Verizon is that you have to use their phone. You cannot get your own and drop in a SIM card. This limits your ability to waste time and money chasing the latest and greatest hardware which is kind of a bummer.
Good Luck.

Maybe you can test this... dissassembly your oldest device... phone or whatever symbian, iphone whatever!!! every device gots the anthenna like a green ribbon inside the phone housing, if the phone's MotherBoard has a contact conector try to unplug the ribbon from the housing then connect it and see where does the phone gets the signal strenght enough as you wish, see all around maybe there is a big metal structure or big building and far repetition anthenas or behind.

In some parts of the country has great signal or bad signal streght because of many natural things, like magnetism, surface, and weather.
Ask to your neightbor if he gets the same issue on his phone... dude... get out of there if the device lost completly the signal.

One difference between AT&T & Verizon is that AT&T will support simultaneous voice and data connections where Verizon will not.

Actually I'm pretty sure Verizon will also support simultaneous voice and data connections. I also regrett picking at&t because coverage is so much better where I live (charlotte as well) but then I think about how verizon tends to cripple their phones and the whole locked to cdma carriers thing. For example when the vz touch pro first came out, the gps was locked to only their gps software so no tom tom or google maps and they also cut the ram down to 192.
I think its just your area
sorry bout the post in the wrong place n thank you for moving it. for you that couldn't understand what this post was about, this was really an attempt to c if anyone else is having these problems. are they due to technology limitations or am i just expecting too much.
i will address the replies one by one, atleast the ones that had somethign useful to say.

hahaha....read my friend read.
Ril --- surely if your getting the same issue on completely different devices then it is a network issue in your area? it maybe worth a look at getting a pay as you go sim from another network and trying that to see if you get the same issue.---

thank u for splitting up my points. this is probably why my english grades were never betta than a C. as far as ur point on network issues. definately a good possiblity although at&t techs have been in the area to test connections and coverage with no luck.
we use a code with agent plans that gives the "network support team" a msg saying there is an issue with a specific tower. waiting on getting this code and sending them a bunch of "*#" requests. lol.
dwmackay ---If you like the TouchPro, you may want to try Verizon. You can sign-up and have 30 days to cancel if the coverage is not good

i wouldn't consider verizon cuz of the cdma thing. i know i know, call me picky but i do travel internationally (not that much) but still. and there is no way i wanna pay roaming charges to fill the pockets of some big wig.

i wasn't the one i said i was "super-knowledge" about wireless, you did. All i was stating was that i "work" in wireless. not sure how that makes me a wireless genius but okay. i like someone tooting my horn. haha. and disconnecting and connecting my antenna cables is a little too much for a casual user to mess with. do you think i can tell that to a customer that i just sold a fuze too. they would laugh in my face. but on ur request i will try this process just to c if i'm wrong.

Stay cool dude if you ask for something read too... in just tellin you that you may live in an area with issues on signal... agian... ask to your neighbor maybe he gots the signal strenght low.
Oh yeap, I just laugh on faces when the question is wrong applied and sounds so bad, bad enough to think that person is a jerk, but if you ask correctly your answer always comes clearly.
keep it up dude!
okay let me respond to that ppc.
i'm sorry if i came across as rude. wasn't my intent, i was just telling you what you had said.
and yes i have tried having three different carriers,(at&t, t-mobile n verizon) numerous different phones and in and around my house i'm just getting horrible service. matter of fact, the only i have not tried is sprint, and again due to the limitations of that network i just rather not go there. i can't just up and move out of my house and having cell phone coverage is HIGHLY important. guess i'll just have to wait on the femto cells at&t is promising before the end of the year...
