Does anyone know if there is a leak of the new MotoBlur UI or rom? or if it's even possible to port to the G1? ... I know it was just annouced but there isn't a section for it and i wouldn't mind having some of the widgets and or features that have already been shown. Does anyone have any additional info on this besides what's already been released my motorola today?

i figured it would work in either section but it is development based b/c it is a new UI that hasn't been seen ... I was more or less tryin to spark interest into this.
Just in case someone didn't know, here some info http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/10/live-from-motorolas-android-announcement-at-mobilize-09/
Looks awesome, but i think the device only has the qualcomm ~550MHz cpu..
Waiting for the Motorola Sholes with Snapdragon, whoooo
As long as it runs on the Qualcomm architecture that the Dream/Magic/Hero etc. run on, there's no reason why it could not be ported to the Dream. Once it comes out, that is.
this will probably take months before its leaked and weeks before its usable

Hero STILL doesn't have bluetooth, based on past results, it's very very hard to port this stuff over in a usable manner. The devs are the best, but if we still don't have Hero working, what are the odds of us getting this one anytime soon?

I'd say there's a high chance of getting a full working version of "MOTOBLUR" on the G1 before a working version of Sense UI.
Of course nobody can comment before the phone/rom is released but at first glance it doesn't look like the core of android has been edited much, if at all. It's simply the stock android home screen with 2 extra shortcuts at the bottom and some new widgets.
Even the calendar app has remained the same.

go to this page and click on the MotoBlur Demo link on the right hand side to get
a full demo of the UI.
I like the fact that your "inbox" contains messages/gmails/fbook messages all in one list.
And it has the same screen res and 528mhz processor as the g1 so it shouldn't be too much work to get it on there. This is way more exciting than hero, cuz the hero roms are so slow

agreed i love the universal inbox as well as the Happenings screen/widget. even if that was all we got, i would be happy lol
what people need to realize is that its not about what official rom we want.. its what from each rom we want.. cause with the way devs keep taking things from all the new roms and putting into current ones.. all we need is to take the best from each and make one bomb rom..lol

devs havent got bluetooth to work cuz the hero source code is closed source. if motorola keeps the source code for the blur UI open, then devs have
all around access to not only port the build but framework, bluetooth, led's,etc.
i hope we get a system dump soon this UI looks real good.. i dont like all the colors but im sure manups work'll take care of all that

Hey Guys!!!
Ive been a Winmo user for a very long time now and currently using an Htc HD2,
I have been offered the chance to trade my phone with an unlocked Nexus One running a 2.2 Froyo, but the deal is i dont have enough knowledge on Androids.
I can manage myself with all winmo devices like flashing roms, games ,apps etc.
Is the Android OS the same?what adjustment will i face?

Just one adjustment, similar to adjusting from a village hole-in-ground toilet to a 5-star penthouse restroom with a built-in hooker.
Yeah. You'll learn to endure it.
If you want to try Android you can just try the port for the HD2
An even trade??? You're the winner with that trade. WinMo is junk compared to. Android 2.2.

Thats what im waiting for also, its not an even trade, its my hd2 plus $200 cash.
maybe soon the hd2 will have the stable android OS from the developers here.
I was in a simular boat, and found Android an easy progressive fun transition! Tons of support threads here, so go for it and never look back!
There is a learning curve that's for sure. but you should go on with this trade while this person is still on drugs.
I used WinMo for a long time before Android although I think starting Android as soon as it launched eased the curve but you wont regret it, words can't express how much more fun, faster, more stable and ultimately easier Android is to use than WinMo.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
HD2 AND $200? I dunno about that.. see if you can haggle it down some.
Well I was in the same position as the OP. I built my own custom roms for WinMo and had an extensive knowledge about hacking them....
Then I came to Android
Now I don't have to. Vanilla Android on the Nexus One is just simply amazing. I never get fustrated waiting for it to open an app or wish it did something differently. I've unlocked the bootloader on my old phone and did the SD Card Trick on my new one to gain root access and play around with custom roms... but the kicker is I like the Stock OS the best.
Right now I am running a "custom" stock firmware which is rooted and uses a black taskbar theme... but it doesn't contain any extra apps or features.
I can't scream loud enough to express how I feel for the awesomeness of Android. The OS is a dream. Customizable to no end. Very easy to replace default dialers, messaging apps, facebook apps, launchers, etc. I know a few friends with N1's and they all look completely different. I love it.
I've used Windows Mobile all the way from 2002, popped in on Blackberries from time to time, Symbian, and touched the iPhone long enough to realize it sucks.... but Android is just amazing. I couldn't recommend any other OS. Even my non-techie wife has her Android all tricked out. Its just easy to do.
2.2 brings in full fucntionality with exchange support, making it a viable alternative to winmo for enterprise users. If you are a power user, now is the time to convert.
I've owned WinMo and iPhone previously. People always compare Android to the latter. But Android really reminds me of what WinMo could have been if Microsoft had a clue. I think you will adjust without a problem. Go for it!

with the release of froyostone rom for the hd2 which is sense + 2.2 officially from htc, I believe it would be much easier to port sense to the captivate and completely remove touchwiz.
First your posting in the wrong captivate forum section...second the Android os isn't something that can be magically ported to XX device just because XXX device has it or its working on it, for starters the hd2 is a non native android device, which means its running an android port, with the help of a half working linux kernel, loaded with haret bootloader, android 2.2 is coming in September so just sit tight and be patient, or you can download CM6 vibrant source and port it over to the captivate(you would have to make the captivates kernel compatible with 2.2, meaning backporting/patching etc) which ever you like.

Personally, I cant wait till all manufacturers realize we don't want to be forced into sense, touch wiz etc.
Make it default if you have to, but provide an option to enjoy raw, unadulterated android!!!
I guess we wait and see what Gingerbread does about that.
To the OP, why don't YOU port Android 2.2 to the Captivate AND also port Sense??
Joking aside I am going to be cooking for the Captivate soon. I'm just waiting for Froyo so I can get my hands dirty with Android .
Maybe even a Sense port??
I've been working on porting sense to our the device for some weeks now but roms fail to boot, changing libs etc, got no clue of what else to try.
Sense is so deeply entangled into Android, kinda like trying to remove Internet Explorer from Windows 95, It is virtually impossible to get it working without all the kernel extensions HTC added to the OS.

Just a historical footnote. Internet explorer was very easy to remove from windows 95. The original release of win95 didn't even include internet explorer. It was only available as part of the plus! Pack of addons. The SR1 release had IE v2 included but it could be easily deleted. It wasn't until IE 4 that active desktop became a part of the package and began making it difficult to seperate from the OS. IE 4 came sr2.5 but was an optional upgrade for most win95 instalations.
But i knew what you meant.

haha, I was literally going to add almost exactly this.
Sense seems only to be portable to devices that can run off of HTC-based ROMs. It seems to be much easier to remove it than to try and bring it over (I haven't heard of it being brought to a device that wasn't HTC based). The widgets haven't even been ported to the best of my knowledge to work on non-Sense launchers. And, as proven by our phones, they could have made Sense even MORE integrated considering removing touchwiz launcher causes massive force closes. Also, Sense is proprietary and cosed source, so we don't have any low-level access to remove the HTC restrictions (short of binary hacking, which I know nothing about and could indeed be wrong about)

notice how I said I can't see it being ported to a non-HTC device. The HD2 is indeed an HTC device and I believe the ROM that has Sense is one built off of an HTC ROM for another device. Much like how the Legend ROMs were able to be fairly easily/quickly ported to the Aria. In fact, many of the internals of the HD2 resemble a lot of the Android hardware produced by HTC (qualcomm snapdragon and all that good stuff I believe)... the difficulty of getting android on that device had nothing to do with the ROMs, but actually getting haret to boot a linux kernel properly.

Unless they ported the whole ROM and re used drivers, I don't quite understand how they got it to work.
They got Sense 2.5 working from The HD2 onto the Omnia II (winmo), so its quite possible. We just need a team of developers willing to do the work. I can offer hosting and testing and little technical help since I am new at Android but I think we can get it to work if we start to tinker with it.
Maybe a ROM port is in order?
Maybe we should wait for a Froyo kernel though.

I'm not saying it's impossible, I'm saying it hasn't been done. There are (correct me if I'm wrong) absolutely no non-HTC android devices with the Sense UI. I know nothing about the HD2/Omnia II Sense port, but that's WinMo... not even remotely close to Android in terms of interoperability. I also feel like any ROMs designed to bring Sense UI to non-HTC android devices would be hit with C&D's since it's their proprietary software (hence why both Fancy Widget and Beautiful Widgets got in trouble originally when they launched on the market).
Don't get me wrong, good luck in porting it, hell even I like the look of it and would love the option, but considering how long Sense has been out for android (and numerous devices) and we don't see it on any non-HTC android devices, I have to believe it's been tried and just doesn't work (which is why you also don't see MotoBLUR/NinjaBLUR anywhere else either... or even TouchWiz on the EVO)
Also I think the HD2 and the Desire are the same hardware. If not the Desire it's another phone. That also makes porting Android pretty painless.
Hello,
I loved the fact that the HTC HD2 have the possibility of changing the OS, and can change for many OSes. Then I want to know if there is any of these hacks for the Milestone.
Best Regards,
Nathan Paulino Campos
As far as I know, Moto's locked bootload makes it pretty much impossible to do this at this point. If it didn't have that we'd all be running CM6 haha..
I might be wrong, just my 2 cents.
I doubt it cuz the main reason the hd2 has multiple os's to choose from is because of putting a dead os on it from the start...which was windows 6-6.5 with no more updates being pushed. Youre best bet is to just find a great stable rom and keep it that way

My phone is pretty snappy and stable considering it's a bit long in the tooth. I recommend the latest .32 kernel, Scooter's CM rls4c, and a mild overclock to 490 mhz. I don't keep a bunch of crapware apps and widgets on my phone and I recently trimmed down to three desktop screens.
It is my sincere hope that my carrier offers me a decent plan when I do bite the bullet and upgrade to a new android device. It's going to cost me an additional $20-30/mo to get a plan comparable to what I currently have and I really wanted a decent device with a hardware keyboard. Either the Epic or the EVO Shift will be in my pocket next...

yea keyboards are nice but htc phones with keyboards always suffer from poor design flaws, like the touch pro and the high failure rate of that (i even had problems with mine before i sold it), the G2 and it basicly falling open when turned upside down, i love htc to death but i dont trust anything they have with a keyboard at all
