Can anybody confirm that Nexus One can work on 2100 MHz european 3G networks? I'm going to travel to Europe soon and need to plan ahead. So far I could not find any clear answer to this question. It would be great if somebody with personal experience could comment on this.

Yes it works in Europe, 900/2100Mhz
Works in Paris France and Ireland on 3G
Works flawlessly in Spain.
Works in Europe and contrary to our US fellows I never experienced 3G issues on Netherlands neither Spain

Hi,
I recently bought a T-Mobile MDA Vario III from T-Mobile Netherlands.
Visiting the US I discovered this phone does not support 3G in the US.
My US colleague liked the phone so much, and had a look at the AT&T Tilt. The big difference is ofcourse the missing frontcamera, but this one works in the US on 3G. Are there any AT&T Tilt users here that have tried that phone in Europe and/or Asia and got 3G or HSDPA there ?
I suspect there are different versions of this phone around with different frequency support. Or should I have bought a HTC version, are they possibly enabled to use 3G in both US, Europe and Asia ?
Any hints to enable 3G on my phone while visiting the US would be appreciated !
Regards,
Taco
Umm, unless the Vario III is crippled (in terms of frequencies supported), the Kaiser supports all currently 3G frequencies worldwide - 850, 1900, 2100MHz. I used my TyTN II in Korea (2100) and obviously in the US (850/1900)...According to gsm.org, Netherlands TMo uses 2100 also.

T-Mobile USA does not yet have 3G. They'll be on the the new bands someday (and your Kaiser doesn't support those bands). Most likely you'd find yourself on the T-Mobile network with GSM-only.
If you want 3G in the US, you'll probably need to purchase a prepaid card from AT&T...
I can swith to the AT&T network with no problem, still only Edge....
What I am suspecting is that 3G is on different frequencies/bands in the US, and the european models don't support them ....
Question still remains: has a AT&T Tilt user been to Europe or Asia and saw that 3G worked there ? My colleague wants to buy one ...
Thanks !

The Tilt defintiely works in Asia and Europe. And I'm fairly certain that the Vario III will work on 3G in the US as well.

This is conjecture on my part, but I'll bet that T-Mobile Europe and AT&T do not have a 3G roaming agreement in place in the US...
I was wondering if the tilt will work in japan, being its a quad band phone?

If you want to use a local sim, then make sure your Tilt is unlocked, but, to answer your question, yes, it will work.
Yes, confirmed can use, given its quad band capabilities. However, note that I'm using HTC tytn II.
I doubt it will work everywhere. As far as I am aware, Japan predominantly uses CDMA and GSM availability is more limited. If you're in Tokyo you should be fine, but when I was in Osaka 18 months ago I didn't manage to find a signal at all...
You won't find GSM anywhere in Japan but should be able to find W-CDMA/HSPDA almost anywhere.
I am right now in Japan carrying an unlocked phone. It works just as well as anywhere. There is no GSM anywhere in Japan but the Tilt also supports WCDMA which is what is used here. Usual Quad band (850/900/188/1900 Mhz) GSM Only phones wont work in Japan.
Oops that should have read (850/900/1800/1900)
doesnt Japan uses 2100mhz WCDMA band just like rest of asia and europe? The Kaiser's WCDMA band has 850/1900/2100
I just passed through Narita 2 days ago and during the layover I turned on my Tilt. It picked up a DoCoMo HSDPA signal (I was surprised!).
So, I can confirm that at least as far as getting a signal goes, there is potential for it to work. However, I have no ideas about the prospect of getting a prepaid local SIM that would actually allow you to make and receive calls.
Japan uses WCDMA 2100 Mghz. I go to Japan every 2-3 months and my Tilt works just fine, from Tokyo, Shizuoka, Fuji, Osaka, Kyoto, and on and on. Only comment, power draw on the Japanese networks is noticiably higher than US or EU.
This is why I went to Tilt, for use in Japan and South Korea. I have successfully used the phone in Japan, S. Korea, China, Finland, Germany, Holland, France, UK, Poland, Russia, so far so good.
ATT Tilt does work in Japan!
Like said before, it does work.
I used it several times in Japan, on Softbank 3G and DoCoMo.
Note that I had my Tilt flashed with the original HTC Tytn II ROM.
Also, if you want cheap calls in Japan, get a United Mobile +423 SIM.
You cannot get a local SIM if you are not a resident in Japan.
It's free incoming calls and $0.45 for outgoing to most destinations.
Works great. See http://www.united-mobile.com
The ICQ Sim from the same company (http://www.icqsim.com/) should work too, but I haven't tested it.
Hello All,
I have brought an unlocked HTC HD7 (T-Mobile) from USA and according to the specs given at HTC US site, It says that it supports UMTS 2100 and AWS 1700/2100 band for 3G.
Can anyone confirm on having used HTC HD7 (T-Mobile) in India on Tata DoCoMo or BSNL network for 3G?
Thanks
Shaju
well, i already bought mine from us and i use it in Saudi Arabia with no problems at all with 3g, just to be sure contact your telecom company and ask them if it is supported or not.
regards
Theoretically, yes, it should work.
I'll be giving it a shot on Vodafone (in Mumbai) once they launch their 3G service, shortly, but if anyone else has confirmation, that'd be great to know.
Hello saud_19, what is 3g band used by your service provider? Is it UMTS 2100 or AWS 1700/2100?
Thanks,
Shaju
well Shaju, unfortunately i am not sure but i think it is 2100.
: )

Hey Shaju,
Did u try the HTC HD7 bought in US? Did it work? Did u face any issues?
Regards

Most likely you wont get much out of your HD7 cellphone in india..
you will be combarded with spam because thats where all the marketing place is ring ring and they spam you with advertice. Infact indian doesnt have the best coverage at all... its a poor country to beging with.
Its best you buy a phone that works in your town and that make sure it has coverage all over with your local provider.

First of all lemme tell you all, that HD7 works great in India, got hold of one in Nov last year and have been using it with impressive results.
There are some issues with the marketplace, but a workaround is available.
Secondly about India being poor, I guess this is not the forum to take offense, to what clearly is OFFENSIVE.
3g services are lagging, as its still in a nascent stage. I'm getting between decent to good speeds on Airtel 3g in Delhi
Cheers

Dumb-ass ignoramus comments.
A TMOUS HD7 will get 3G on 2100 band.
Great, this means I won't regret my impulse buy of a TMOUS HD7 last week.
It works too where I live, we a UMTS 2100 network. But speed sucks!! think it does not support hsdpa speeds on UMTS 2100 networks cuz mine cant get pass 35KB/s download speed
I have the T-Mobile N1 (1700/2100 I believe) and was wondering if it would get 3g on any service provider in the UK, and if so what service provider(s) will it work on? Any help would be appreciated, thanks
Yes, your Nexus One is fully compatible with all GSM/UMTS providers in Europe - you won't have to worry about supported frequencies.
so I'll get 3g on all of them as opposed to edge?
Yes, you will be able to get UMTS ("3G") reception wherever it is available and will be able to use the faster data standards HSDPA and HSUPA on your Nexus One, just like with T-Mobile US, on all networks.

that's great. thank you so much for the reply
I know you've got your answer now but just so you're certain I live in England and bought my N1 back in January, straight from America on their T-Mobile network. Been using both Orange UK and GiffGaff (on O2 network) since then for 3G without a problem.
cool. thanks for confirming this
I've seen users say that it works in Canada or Russia, but is there a definite list somewhere of countries/carriers it supports? My cousin wants to know if the phone will work in Spain.
It should work fine. Its GSM part of radio chip is quad-band (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) which means it supports all existing GSM frequencies. I'm using it in the Czech Republic and have seen it reported working also in the Netherlands, France, UK, Germany and Poland.
3G should work fine also. 4G (LTE) will be a problem, as it supports only 700 MHz Band 13 used only by Verizon and some carrier in Uzbekistan, but for normal use (not as a modem for computer's primary connection) 3G is fast enough...
Since it's working fine ine France (i'm actually using it) it will work in Spain for sure because for GSM this is the same frequencies.
It won't work for 4G as said by LuH. For me it's not a big lost because 4G is not ready yet in frnace, and i've heard that the first company who will sell 4G will ask for 60€ or more a month... Quite expensive ! lol
I started a list in my thread about getting the Droid 4 working in the UK. It's in post 3. If you get it working on another carrier, please reply there and I'll keep it updated.

I really ought to edit the title of that thread, but don't seem to have permission to do so.
