I am trying to find the sound file for usb debugging & sd card notifications (same sound file, I presume). I would like to keep USB debugging turned on (using Enomther's ROM you must have USB debugging turned on to allow root access to programs), but I hate the loud sound it makes when I plug my phone in.
Does anyone know where this sound file is located? I've check /system/media and can't find it there (might not have looked hard enough). It doesn't seem to match any of the notification sound files.
In the settings under Sound and Display there's an option called "SD Card Notifications". Disable it.
It has to be there in /system/media/audio/notifications...

Have you installed the Samsung drivers?
yeah i've tried installing the drivers. the phone isn't even putting the usb icon in the notification tray anymore. just starts charging and that's it. i go to usb settings/mass storage and nothing. any ideas?
I got that too, I just put the usb cable in another usb port on my computer and tadaaaa: problem fixed
I had this issue and read in a forum (not sure where wish I did to give credit) where u need to format your internal SD memory (the built in 16 gig SD) I did that and it started to work again.

How about Menu > settings > applications > usb settings > ask on connection.....

I had/have this problem sometimes too. choosing "ask on connection" usually works. I find that if you select anything other than "mass storage" then exit out, then go back in and choose mass storage, it works again.
Usually only have to do it once after a factory reset or on a new phone
I find my connection to be hit or miss. The pc picks up the drivers fine but doesn't mount the phone as a drive. Kies is a pain to get going too. I read on here that you need .net framework 4 and also no file names over 16 characters, and without kies I think you need to be in debug mode on application settings. I still need to try the short file names and see if it improve it but I never really hook up to a pc anyway, my father has win 7 and I have kies on his computer. I have linux mint 9 on my own so I rarely get to fitz with it on a windows machine.

I'm having this problem, can't get usb debugging mode to turn off. It immediately turns on when I turn it off. It's as the just says, "yeah, you can uncheck it, but I'm gonna leave it on."
Ok, so i am sure this is a "noob" type question but here goes.... How do i get my captivate to play audio through the usb cable??? I have a new stereo in my truck that has a usb input but for some reason i can't get it to recognize my phone. I am currently running Slim's ICS Rom and whenever i plug in the usb it automatically goes into usb debugging. Please help, i know this is probably and easy question for some of you but i am having difficulty with this.
Have you tried turning off USB debugging? Settings - Applications - Development - USB debugging. Once you do that, it might recognize it.
You'll probably also want to pay attention to where on the phone it's looking for audio files and update your folder structure accordingly (e.g. if it's looking on the external SD, put your music there, if internal SD, put it there).
Have pulling the notification bar and press connect USB...

i thought the "usb connect" was only for transferring data/files from pc to phone. i know when i was stock (and some previous ROMS) there was a Media Player or Mass Storage option also when connecting the usb cable, but i do not see that as an option with this ROM. I will try and move the music to the internal RAM (now it's on external sd card) and see if that helps.
Well you must have a option to mound your sd card I you do that your you stereo will detect you phone and read you music file try putting your all you media into the music file if you mound your sd card it should read it but if it doesn't try changing your cable... : )

ok, the external sd card is mounted to the phone. i put music on both the external sd and the internal memory, tried to "connect usb" when asked and still my stereo does not find music to play. i thought i read some place before that i need the car/home dock app so i tried that and still no luck.
any other suggestions?????
Hi, guys! I have a trouble and I broke my mind to try to solve it. My phone N6 can't work in mass storage mode (MTP), only Charging, PTP, or MIDI. If I try to turn on any other modes (MTP, RNDIS, Audio Source), the phone automatically changes to Charging. I tryed to turn on/off USB debugging in Developer options, several times flash another versions of firmware, use another cable (but I think it can't help, because MTP don't turn on even cable doesn't connect to phone. Don't know what I can to do else. Help, please.

Unplug your usb, go disable usb debugging, go into your developer options, find "select usb config" under the "networking" section.
You will want to select MTP, if it doesnt work look for PTP, and if it doesnt work (or isnt there) just select file transfer.
This will now be default selection when you plug in your phone. if your phone is still not being recognized, id highly suggest trying one more cable.
i literally have 5 in my house that are all **** and only charge.

tryed all of this earlier, and nothing helps
why cant you use ptp?
I can, but think that there is something wrong torturing me This phone arrived a few days ago from Ebay, and I would like to know is this a bug from seller, or I broke it while firmware, and whether it is possible to fix.
Did you solved the problem? I have the same problem with my nexus 6
no, after I disassembled the phone for changing camera module, I found a new problem, phone doesn't charge anymore. At this moment I wait a spare logic board. I think that problem with MTP mode is a hardware problem, wich can progress.
Hi, When I connect My External USB HDD to my note 8 , it not work, But it work fine on my old phone Galaxy Alpha, How I can fix it?
Settings > Developer options > USB configuration > make sure that MTP is selected
Also, it sometimes depends upon the app. Try ES File explorer or any file manager that specifically mentioned that it supports HDDs.
Had a similar problem. Lastly, make sure that the USB adapter is fully in port( you'll know it's not if it keeps disconnecting by itself).

Hi, Thank you, problame solved after I installed ES file manager, is there any way to access HDD from samsung file manager?
I had mine working on the launch firmware. I think in the latest update they limited the power draw. Every time I plug it in the screen dims and the drive turns off.
Hi,
I really hope someone can help me!
I've recently switched from iPhone to Android. Previously with my iPhone when plugging the phone in via USB it'd basically turn into an iPod and allowed me to play music through the speakers of the car. But with my Android (Huawei P20 Pro) I just get an error message on the car's screen saying "No supported data found". My car does not support Android Auto so that's a no go.
Does any one know any settings can be changed to allow me to play music via the car speakers using USB?
Cheers
Chris
Make sure the phone USB settings are set for Audio source or MTP. When plugged in the phone should show a pop up showing USB options you need to choose MTP or Mass Storage Mode. Another option is enable developer options and set it to default to MTP, to enable developer options goto settings, about phone, and keep tapping build number 7 times. You will get a new option called developer options. In there scroll to "select USB options" about half way down and there you can change the USB options. But im not sure if this will affect charging etc so take a note of what it is before changing so you can change back if it dont work. To be honest you should just get the notification on the phone when plugged into the USB, make sure you check the notifications area as its sometimes hidden there.
If you don't see a pop-up menu, just swipe from the VERY top of the screen, you should see USB options as described by marshyrob
