Ok, so I tried using hardSPL, and I keep getting an error message as soon as I launch the program saying that it stopped working. Im using windows 7 premium home edition. I read through the forum on HardSPL, and nothing fixed this problem. No antivirus software was running, or firewalls. Does anyone have any advice? Anything at all would be very much appreciated....
I followed this to the T and had no issues using windows 7. I noticed you stated you read through the HardSpl forum but did not see if you attempted to use this guide. Based on a few assumptions, on the forum you posted in, hopefully this helps.

Hm... that's very strange. I'm also running on Windows 7 and I had no problems at all. Are you sure literally everything was turned off? I know my computer came with McAfee for free and it was being TOO good. I had to go into it and disable every little thing to get it to work. Maybe try that and see what happens... security programs always give a big fuss with this. Also, make sure you have the enablerapinew.cab installed on your phone, it doesnt say that in some of the walkthroughs.
Im positive everything is turned off. The second I try to open the program, it says it stopped working. I don't see any menus or anything. When I clicked the "additional details" box, here's what came up

I don't know if I toasted my XDA
I have an XDA IIs. The biggest problem I think that I made was to use Windows Mobile center since I am using a Windows Vista OS.
I was about to install the windows 6.1 from pinoytopdownloads when suddenly, it stopped and continuosly displayed Serial......version 2.07.
Did I toast my ROM or did it just become blank because Windows Mobile Center disconnects once the phone started changing it's OS?
I have not tried checking if activesync 3.7 on a Windows XP application can still recognize the O2 Xda IIs in that state.
If anyone can guide me or give help regarding this, I will greatly appreciate it. thanks.
try using XP with active sync 4.5 and start the process from the top, hard reset first your BA and put it in bootloader mode...that should work
Upgrading Blue Angel using Vista (without Mail Button)
Hy everyone,
Yesterday I had a bit of a struggle trying to upgrade my SPV M2000 (aka Blue Angel) but in the end it worked.
As you guys are having some trouble too, I'm going to post the way I did it and hope that it works for you as well..
Note I: This steps worked for me but there is no guarantee that they will do so for you too and everything you try is at your own risk. However I am sure, you are all aware of this and really hope that this is going to help you.
Note II: My Laptop runs Vista Business, my BA WM2003 non-SE. I modified the installation process as the mail button on my BA is not working anymore, preventing me from following the normal instructions found in the wiki.
First of all (Prerequisites):
- Ensure Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) is installed and updated to the most recent version. The latest version is 6.1 which worked fine for me.
- Get the drivers for the BA, to be found in the wiki
- Get MTTY 1.4.2, attached to this post
- Get the ROM you want to install, I used Sun Dream's WM6.1 which can be found in the wiki as well
Now, to the task:
To begin with we can follow the instructions given in the wiki for ugrading to wm6 using vista, so I'll just copy&paste those steps from there:
4. Put your device into Bootloader mode by pressing and hold the "Power" & "Record" buttons, and then press the Reset Button.
5. Connect the phone to the sync cable/cradle USB. (Now you can see "USB" at the top of your display and numbers (2.06 or 2.07 at the bottom) You may need to remove SD/MMC (memory) card
6. Now navigate into the WMDC (Start -> All Programs -> Windows Mobile Device Center)
* Click on the "connection settings" menu icon
* In the connection settings menu uncheck "allow USB connections" then press OK.
* Now exit the WMDC and return to the desktop
7. Go into the start menu and type "Services", this will take you into the local services dialogue and show a list of all services either running or registered with your pc.
* Scroll down the list and make sure these services are present:
* Windows Mobile-based connectivity
* Windows Mobile 2003-based connectivity
* If these services are not started then double click each one and set them to Automatic start by clicking the "startup-type" drop-down menu and selecting automatic then click the start button in the same window, apply the setting by pressing OK.
* Return back to the desktop again
8. Go into the start menu and type "Device Manager" then run, this will take you into the device manager.
* Click the "+" symbol next to "Mobile Devices" and double click on "HTC USB Sync". (Note: In my case this was labelled "Microsoft USB Sync")
* This will bring up the properties of the currently connected device.
* Go to the "Driver" tab and click "Update Driver".
* Click "Browse My Computer for Driver Software".
* Select "Let me pick from a list...."
* Click the "Have Disk" button.
* Click "Browse" and navigate to the AS_DRIVERS folder we created earlier.
* Now select your file
o Vista 32bit users select the file "wceusbsh.inf"
o Vista 64bit users select the file "wceusbshx64.inf"
* Then click Open.
* Click next and the driver will be installed (wait a moment).
* Press close and escape back to the desktop now.

Next Steps, different from those described in the wiki:
9. Go to the task manager and kill the wmdc.exe process
10. Run MTTY; select the USB option from the dropdown list
- There is also a USB button but the instructions I found said NOT to use it, so I did not test it
- Apparently, the option could also be called something like WCEUSBSH001, but always has to contain USB. In my case it just said USB
- If you do not get a USB option something is not connected correctly, ie it will not work with the stock drivers Vista uses

Next Steps:
11. Take the phone off the cradle. I am not absloutely sure anymore, but I think it still was in bootloader mode at that point. If that is the case just soft reset the device.
- When the device has rebooted it will ask you whether to flash some settings (can't remember which..) about 3 times. Just answer no to all of them.
12. Restart WMDC and re-allow USB connections (under connection settings)
13. Reconnect your device to the cradle and start Active Sync on the Blue Angel
- Make sure your device is shown as "connected" in WMDC
14. Start the ROM installation.
Note: Using "BaUpgradeUT.exe" resulted in a Device ID error. In this case you have to use a version which does not check the ID codes. I used the version attached to this post
15. When the installation is finished, the dialogue on the computer says to cold boot (hard reset) the device.
- If your mail button is not working, just soft reset the device (what I did)
- If your mail button is working you may attempt this. (Please report back!)
I have not yet gotten through really testing the device and I never had a WM6.1 device before, thus no basis for comparison. From the first impressions the soft-reset at the end did not cause any problems and everything seems to be working fine.
16. You're done
Whew, this has gotten rather long. If this instructions work for you, please let me know!
As there seem to be several BAs out there where the mail button doesn't work this might be a useful addition to the wiki.
However, I will not post it there without some feedback whether it works for others as well..
(I hope there aren't to many mistakes in the text; I am not a native speaker)
Final Note:
This is not my work, all the steps described above were found on this forum and on the wiki pages. I just did the job of combining them in a way that worked for me.
My biggest thanks to:
- crabiorc
- ramram
- sp3dev
- all the people who contributed to the wiki pages
Best wishes,
Dipak

Yes. If you feel more comfortable on a specific ROM it is always ok to downgrade or upgrade.
Upgrade XDA IIs to WM6.5
My XDA IIs just froze when resetted earlier and it was running on WM6.1 so I started to wonder if it had totally died. As I mainly leave it in the car and use it for satnav I was considering now buying a tomtom.
Then thought if its dead trying to revive it cant hurt so I found the following link (http://pinoytopdownloads.blogspot.com) to download a zipped file claiming to be WM6.5.
Opened the file and did a hard reset on devicethen sync with PC. Ran the programe which looked farmiliar from previous updates I had used so thought it might work. Half hour later, my XDA IIs came back to life running WM6.5 and none of my data such as text and contacts were lost at all.
It lives again.
Waiting for the HTC Touch Pro2 to see if it lives up to its hype and then can use my PDA as a phone again too cos lets face it... the XDA IIs is a bit of a lump now!

Nice to hear that your BA is kicking again

Billy B:
I just bought an 02 XDA IIs. I love it but the bluetooth doesn't work with my Motorola S9 stereo headset unless it's 6 inches from my head. Does your XDA IIs work with stereo bluetooth? Have you tried it with WM6.1? I'd like to know.
Upgrading to WM6.1, Etc.
For all you upgrading Blue Angels to WM6 and high, you need to read the Wiki http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel. Read Blue Angel for beginners and also the upgrading to WM5 and WM6. You'll learn that you can free up some memory being used for the Extended ROM among other things.
I am new here, and this is my first rom flash. I have an O2 XDA lls that was given to me by a friend on WM2003. On XP, following the instructions on the wiki, I have tried with several roms. The flash seems to work, but then as soon as I reset the phone I am back in WM2003. Instead of a striped boot screen, I simply see an O2 logo, and when using the key combinations, I get no debug options.
Anyone have any ideas?
well did you flash a proper rom or maybe just a radio rom, meaning just an upgrade on wireless tech, because that process would "feel" like flashing a rom but actually doesn't change the OS
I don't really know. But I used the roms on this page:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel_WM6_WizzardUpgrade4
if that helps. I also used one off the helmi_c to check it wasn't a dodgy rom. DO you have any specific one to recommend? When I downloaded and unziped the rar, I simply ran the upgrade file within which started a wizard which said it would upgrade my pda. Strangely, the wizard did not display any information about the pda on the screen which tells you the rom info. Is it possible that it is not being detected? Do I need to install some extra drivers on XP?
it is perfectly normal that this upgrade tool does not show all the information like an official upgrade would, first of all, that is because these are cooked roms, meaning you only upgrade the OS, not the protocol, radio and extrom. that would be baked roms. but anyway, also, that the device's current information is not fully shown or not shown at all is normal, as you are probably using the MAupgradeut_noID.exe in contrast to the original BAupgradeut.exe, just by the first two letters (and the giant picture in the wizard) you can tell that this upgrade tool is actually for the magician, but works best for BA.
for recommendation:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=482997
the R6.1 release on that site is the newest real release, meaning you can get full further support, the download links work...
Don't get fooled by the R6.1, we are still talking about wm6.5, it is just the xplode release number.
P.S. no extra drivers needed, just use the wiki wizard word by word and it will work
The same thing happens again. Using the ROM upgrade file, it all seemed to work, and then when I attempt to do a hard reset, I get no stripes, just an O2 logo, and no boot options. I am then returned to Wm2003. Maybe I will try on another computer.
it's nice, but there is some application lost.
i've upgrade my xda 2s to WM6 cooked by HELMI, i download from http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel_WM6_WizzardUpgrade4_Vista and look powerfull, its nice, but there is some application lost that i need. there is'nt auto config and xBackup...some one can help me to get that application??....thank's.....

The best solution is to try it on WinXP. I had some crashes with the hardspl with a Vista PC. If you dont want to install it, try a Virtual Machine.

thnx for the reply wat do u mean by virtual machine?
try using the internal storage method or updating your ROM.
Installing from Internal Storage is the fastest and safest way to upgrade ROM.
1) Rename the ROM to DIAMIMG.nbh and copy into your internal storage
2) While pressing VolDown and Back, use your stylus to press the reset button
3) After a few seconds, it will ask you whether you want to proceed to install ROM from Internal Storage.
However, every ROM cooker recommends some type of HardSPL. You must make sure that you meet the requirement, lest you brick your TD.

Haha fun guyz.
Still no luck for the Hardspl and my pc.
When you have Windows7 Profession, Enterprise, or Ultimate you can try it in "Windows XP Mode" (Not to be Confused with Compatiblity Mode).
"microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx"
(I cant post links now, so just Copy&Paste it in you Adress Bar)
Google a bit for "Windows XP Mode" if you want how to use it, i´m too tired now....
I have the same problem and tried everything mentioned here before, but it didn't work.
Then I ran the Rhodium-HardSPL_V2_00R3.exe in XP Mode and it works, but I seems to be impossible to install Active Sync 4.5 in XP Mode...

If you put your phone in bootloader mode, as long as the drivers are loaded for the "device" you can do whatever needs to be done without activesync.

TL;DR: I need update logs or an idea what path might be missing that breaks the 8.1 update!
Hi all, strange for me to be asking for help here but it happens...
I've finally gotten my ATIV S (SGH-T899M) into a state where I'm willing to upgrade it to WP8.1. However, I am unable to do so. I've been able to install a few updates, but the actual 8.1 update won't install. The error I get (under the "Update status" line in Settings -> Phone Update: "The update was downloaded, but couldn't be opened. (80070003)"
The error code is an HRESULT or NTSTATUS wrapper around Win32 error code 3, which is ERROR_PATH_NOT_FOUND. Note that this is distinct from FILE_NOT_FOUND (2); you only get error 3 when a part of the path to a given file (or directory) is missing. I've searched online for any information about this error with regards to updates, to no avail. It does sometimes happen with Windows Updates on PC, but the instructions for resolving that aren't easily mappable to the phone.
Phone's current status:
OS version: 8.0.10532.166 (this is the pre-8.1 version; as I said, I did get some updates)
Firmware revision: 2212.13.11.2 (this is the Samsung GDR 3 version, except modified to not overwrite WP8Diag.xap or FCRouter, etc.; see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2537241)
Hardware revision: 15.3.1.0
Radio software: 2212.13.11.2
Radio hardware: 0.0.0.0
Bootloader version: 13.08.14.16
Chip SOC version: 1.5.32
Phone was originally branded for Telus Mobility in Canada, and still has signs of that in DeviceTargetingInfo (language is 0809 instead of 0409, for example, and MobileOperatorName is LUS-CA). It was factory SIM-unlocked and brand new when I got it. It is developer-unlocked, interop-unlocked, capability-unlocked, and has been subjected to numerous additional hacks; I've reversed a few that I can think of which could possibly impact the update (like messing with files in the System32 directory) but I probably missed a few of those.
Here's what happens when I try to update:
If Preview For Developers is not enabled, it does "Checking for updates" then says I'm up to date.
If PFD is enabled, it checks for updates and then, if I'm on WiFi, downloads the update CABs.
It then enters the "Preparing to install" step. This is very slow in some places, stalling for minutes at a time at some percentages, but eventually reaches 97%.
It then stops the update process with the error message in bold above.
It does NOT ever tell me what the update is.
It does NOT reboot, or even offer to reboot, at any point.
The "Check for updates" button re-appears and can be used to start the process over again.
So... any ideas or suggestions? I'd prefer to avoid a hard-reset if possible, simply because of the amount of time it would take to restore the phone to the condition I state I want it in, but I'll do one if nothing else works. Things I'm particularly looking for, in descending order:
1) Anybody else who has experienced this problem and found a solution (and what that solution is).
2) Any log files I could check to see what it was trying to do when the error occurred (ideally with the path that caused the error).
3) Anybody else who has encountered this problem but not gotten past it; we can compare what changes we made to our phones.
4) Anybody else who has a reasonably similarly-modified phone but has not experienced this error and was able to install 8.1 (so we can compare what we did to our phones, and I can possibly crib files off you).
Hope somebody can help! Thanks.

I've seen this happening with many people. The only way is reset.
Huh. I didn't see any news about it, at all, when I searched. Lots of stories about *other* update errors for WP8.1. Lots of stories about this particular error when installing Windows updates on normal Windows (none of which, sadly, had helpful suggestions for the phone). When you say "many people" do you mean in general, or just lots of people with interop-unlocked ATIVs?
I would really like it if the source of the problem could be identified and fixed, but Microsoft seems unlikely to be helpful here. It's probably a really simple problem - a config file that needs to be edited, a folder created (we can do that), a registry value changed, something like that - but oh well. I can back up my app data, and my SMS are backed up automatically, so I suppose in the big scheme of things there's no reason *not* to do this... I just don't like it, and consider it a waste of time.
On the other hand, if I have to hard reset anyhow, I might take the opportunity to install a custom CSC. I normally try to stick as close to stock ROM as possible - making only runtime changes, basically - but it's quite possible that some of the changes I've made will *already* persist after reboot (part of why I'm hesitant to blindly hard-reset; what if it doesn't fix anything and is just a waste of time?). It would be nice to get some of the feature perks of the custom CSC though.
I had almost the same problem getting the error 80070003.

Thanks, but that's.. mot actually very encouraging. I have the SGH-T899M, and as far as I know we still don't have a leaked ROM from one of those.
I also got the "Your phone couldn't be updated" message. But the code was: 80188308.
Any takers?
Phone's current status:
OS version: 8.0.10532.166 (with the three xml files....)
Firmware revision: 2216.14.01.2
Hardware revision: 3.19.1.0
Radio software: 1621.14.11.2
Radio hardware: 0.0.0.7
Bootloader version: 13.07.12.14
Chip SOC version: 2.0.15

I've been trying to look into what's going on with the error message.
I found the particular error string within DuErrorsUIRes.dll. IDS_DU_ERROR_PREINSTALL_FAILED.
With that said, the only files that use the DuErrorsUIRes.dll are \PROGRAMS\DUACLIENT\DuaClientSettings.dll and \PROGRAMS\DUACLIENT\DuaNotification.exe.
I'm not good AT ALL with ASM, but you can either grab those files from your phone or grab them from the emu and load them into IDA and track it down.
I know that the code is the 6th code in the list that corresponds with the update error text.
Sorry I'm not able to help much, but hopefully this is of SOME value to you.
Thanks, Snickler. That's an approach I hadn't considered. Since the error code just means "Path not found" I was trying to think of paths it might attempt to access which could, for some reason, be missing from my phone... but working from the other end might work better.
~~~ Problem ~~~
On my Windows 8.1 x64 machine I was finding that when running any of the following HTC RUU (ROM Update Utility) apps for my Sprint HTC One M7_WLS they would start then disappear after accepting the terms:
RUU_M7_WL_L50_SENSE60_SPCS_MR_Sprint_WWE_6.23.651.6_Radio_1.01.20.1225_CNV_CNV_SPCS_4.38_003_release_425282_signed_2.exe (my version - file name matches my phone status exactly)
RUU_M7_WL_L50_SENSE60_SPCS_MR_Sprint_WWE_6.23.651.10.exe (newest version)
~~~ Short answer ~~~
check Windows Event Logs (run eventvwr.exe & go to Windows Logs -> Application) to confirm error type (SideBySide, Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC90, x86)
install "Visual C++ Redistributatble Package (x86)" package from Microsoft (I'm too new to post URLs so try something like microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29)
try RUU again
~~~ Long answer ~~~
In both cases:
the app would start (sucking up a bunch of disk IO)
the "RUU - InstallShield Wizard" window would eventually show (agonizingly slowly advancing the progress bar)
upon clicking the "accept the terms" option and clicking the Next button, the app would end with no further message (but as far as I can tell the C:\Users\<my user name>\AppData\Local\Temp\{xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx}\ folder has been cleaned up)
I tried various fixes suggested by other sites including "Compatibility mode" changes, running as administrator, even disabling driver protection! (That reminds me, I should turn that back on.)
In the end I finally worked on this when it wasn't in the wee hours of the morning and realized that if something was crashing, it should be leaving an Event Log entry.
So, in looking at the Application Events log I found a SideBySide "Dependent Assembly Microsoft.VC90" error on architecture "x86" for version "9.0.21022.8" when running ARUWizard.exe (which must be what InstallShield called after unpacking all the files).
A quick web search for "VC90" told me I was missing a Visual C++ 2008 library and the "x86" architecture told me I needed the x86 (32 bit) version of the library even though (or perhaps BECUASE) I'm running on a 64 bit OS.
Microsoft kindly provided that library for me in their downloads at microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29 (wow - id=29...how old IS this library?!?).
After installing "Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package (x86)" [yes, x86 even though I'm on x64 OS] I WAS able to run the RUU exe past the "accept terms" screen - I didn't even need to reboot!
In the end I was able to succesfully unbrick AND update my phone to the 6.23.651.10 firmware giving me the latest (to-date) version including the "Stagefright" patch AND network improvements.
I have no idea why in this 64 bit world HTC would put out an updater expecting to find a 32 bit library, but hey - at least they provide an awesome tool for those of us idiotic enough to brick our own awesome devices!
Hopefully this helps others who are running into the same issue I did - good luck!
This is great! I had this issue and couldn't figure it out. You win one Internet for today.
Do you mind if I include this information in my RUU guide? I've already submitted it to be included in the FAQ.
