thanks...

you going to be looking about £100 for a start

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=640218
Indeed, expect £100, release in April, class isn't announced yet but I guess it will be 2 or 4 max.
So you should be looking for 2x16GB instead.

whats the use of 2x 16gb when theres only one microsd slot?

You swap em round

I'm looking for a 1tb card, I've got about £3 is that okay?
someone get me one! Bah HTC will have to fix this... etc etc

I have a 16GB Class 6 and find it helps keep every interaction on the HD2 snappy. I install all of my programs on the card and play large movie files (600mb-1.8GB).
Swapping between all these programs and movies and phone calls etc really flies. I originally tried a 2GB class 2 and a 4GB class 4 and found they were ok but not as responsive when you had lots going on.
So my choice was 8GB,16GB or 32GB class 6. The price hike between 16GB to 32GB was significant and the steps between the loweer capacities were quite close so I went for the highest capacity card I could afford.
If you look around you can get them at "reasonable" prices.
The added advantage of a class 6 is when I plug the card into my PC I can transfer large (movie) files quite quickly and the speed difference is more noticeable when doing this on lower class cards.

LOL £3??? is there a free one available?

actually i'm happy with my kingston 16gb class 10 card
was sceptic at first but it holds up to what they say min 10mb/s transfer

you will be lucky to get a 32gb for around 50 to 60. i have 10 sandisk 32gb microsd for £65 each on order from HK and genuine. These retail for 80 - 90 in the uk. Not sure how much the trade is in the uk (unless i check supplier details) but the profit margin on memory cards is extremely small.
For the money your willing to spend you are better of doing what someone else suggested and that is using several 16gb cards.

32gig..... £95! what do you need that much memory for!?

Class 10 or 6
HELLO Friends
i would like to know whats the difference bet the class 6 or class 10 memory card?
& for 16GB card, what u prefere? (i mean which mark)
thanx a lot

That is hilarious, I was laughing for ages! How true it is though.

WOW, why would you need so much pron on your mobile ? LOL.

i heard someone posting about pr0n?
where is it? are there girls in it?
<°(((<

set aside the childish remarks from members the same question could be asked about your hard disk in your machine, why do you have a hard disk larger than a few GB, why bother going 500GB, 1TB+ etc. The same answer applies to having a larger memory card, but for example TomTom maps of europe and america can be larger than 10GB alone, music collection can be large and some people like to use their phone as mobile storage instead of hotswapping usb pens.
I have filled up my 16gb memory cards with just that music (because i like to use my phone as a mp3 player) and the next step from 16 is 32.
DR_ASHK: The higher the class the faster the write speed but this also can be limited by the hardware / software.

Link to the retailer?

No link to supplier and hardly any of them have a web site etc, they are all based in HK Sham Shui Po, Golden Computer Arcade the only place to get good deals and contacts (also where a lot of people see new comp tech stuff out in the wild).

Not worth the money though Eaglesteve. I could buy TWO 8gb Sandisk SDHCs with free postage for 37 dollars less than that. 179 dollars for 12gb versus 60 dollars for 8gb is a total rip off for an extra 4gb in my opinion. Hopefully the price will drop soon though.

Www.play.com. It's a sandisk and comes with an sd card adaptor and a usb sdhc card reader. Ive tested my sdhc card in 3 different card adaptors from non-sdhc cards and they work fine anyway so you just need a microsdhc to minisd adaptor from ebay or elsewhere for the athena if you dont have one already....
Any products bought by "early adopters" are more expensive. It will come down in price. When I bought my 4 GB SD cards for AUD300 few years ago it was a steal because the 512MB was going for more than 100 then. Now, we looked at that and laugh. The same goes for Athena - because I bought it very soon after it was released, I paid probably 50% more than what could be had today.

You're right Eaglesteve, although in this instance I think i'll be a late adopter of 12gb cards. I can cope without that extra 4gb for now, 8 is more than enough for me now anyway!
16gb micro sdhc cards are about to be released too! Check out www.symbian-freak.com for the article
Already??
I thought they would come 4th quarter this year...
Nevermind, the article doesn't say a word about availabilty.
On the other hand, the pix are proof that those things are existing already...
i did the same with my psp and pro duo's. In 2005, the best you could get even a 1gb for was about 60 quid on ebay, and I got a 2gb from singapore for 85 quid. these days, only 2 and a bit years later, its about a tenner
Lol at electronics

Don't mind at all....i should get it a few days after March 10th. Just shoot me a reminder in case I forget.
For all those considering the 12gb micro sdhc cards, the 16gb cards will be released also in 2-3 weeks, with 32 GB models (rather incredibly) arriving in the next few months. Sandisk seem to be ahead of the mark here, and the whole 32gb Athena project could instantly be put on hold: why not take out the mircodrive altogether to save on batteries! it'll be superfast to stick all your films on a 32gb card with the supplied card adaptor and reader, so screw activesync/wm5torage.
32gb cards should work in any sdhc compatible device, since the manufacturer's given capacity for the device's card reader is invariably based on current size limitations. There is no reason why a 32gb card wouldn't work in an Athena so this could be quite a big step for the device, and mobile devices in general.
I disagree that the 32GB project could go on hold. There is a 16GB SSD that costs ~$110, and in 6 months or so, there will be a 32GB SSD out by at least one manufacturer.
Couple that with a 32GB micro SDHC card, then you have an Athena with 64GB, that costs much less than a Sony UX

I think there a people out there who might still want to take their device apart to replace it with an ssd and risk bricking their device (and certainly shred their warranty) but i imagine most would prefer to use a card as the transfer speed of a card in a reader vs software transfer over activesync/wm5toerage file is huge.
By this time of the year, my warranty is already about to expire anyway. If there is well documentated instruction by a more hardware oriented poster, I'm willing to take the risk of opening it up.
I prefer to install all my program on a non-removeable storage, so that I can swap the removeable one in and out at will for even more storage.
Plus, I expect savings in battery life, access speed (SSD should be quite a bit faster than the microdrive, I expect), and reduced weight are all attractions. It would also certainly make Athena surpass X7510 in everyway other than the keyboard. Just imagine, we have larger storage and we still manage to keep all the nice hardware buttons.
That's half the fun is trumping HTC at their own game!
Imagine, when the 16gb 7510 hits the streets and some tech blogs instantly declares is obsolescent because someone has jammed a 32gb ssd into a 7500/7501.
Maybe then HTC will wake up and juice up the 75xx series to have great video performance, and other improvements.
Any update yet on the availability of these larger storage cards? I can't find any 12gb microSDHC for sale online apart from preorders. And if 16gb are only 3 weeks behind, I'll wait for those.
Thanks
Jon
Found some info here... http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2281491,00.asp
In part, it says (re SanDisk):
Product-wise, the company made no major announcements at CTIA, but company reps did confirm to us that the previously announced 12GB microSD size will not be released. Instead, this summer the company is going to "jump to the next obvious size," which is 16GB.
Apparently the 12 giggers previously 'available' are all only pre-orders?
I've had a few cards where it would only let me write to half of the card and the other half was corrupt. I suggest every time you buy a flash mem card you write to the full amount right away to test it. Because sometimes you never get around to using the whole thing until way later and then is when you realize it's faulty. 12gig copy time will be insane.

up to 16GB all I have is 4GB and its more then enough. But a friend wants to send me one and asked me what is would prefer. I would go for 16GB but I don't know if I can use it. I have a AT&T Tilt.
Thank You.
Hi and welcome around,
searching a little bit around may have answered your question .
The Kaiser definitely supports µSDHC up to 16 GB. As soon as 32 GB comes up, it will also support it.
Got a 16Gb in mine. Runs great. Just got to find stuff to fill it now!
What 16 GB are you using?

I am also using a 16GB sandisk. It works great and have no problems. The only thing I will say, as with any flash memory, is that mine is just below 15GB. I personally think that the labeled amount should be the minimum amount available. Sorry for that... go for the 16GB!
Where are you guys buying these 16GB cards? I can't even find them on any of the major retailers' sites. I'm curious to see how much they run. 16Gb used to be a pipe dream to me. heck, the 4 gig I'm currently using used to be such a pipe dream. I remember when I paid $350 for a 1 gig SD card...
16 gigs would be lovely though. I could load up on music.

16GB MicroSDHC Class 6 card (DRATS!) - ONLY $24.99 (s&h FREE)
The best bang for your buck right now for a Class 6 MicroSDHC card, is the 16GB made by ADATA - from Newegg.com:

What SPEED is the Tilt able to handle for the MicroSDHC cards? There are Class 2, 4, and 6 - Class 6 being the fastest. However, if the Tilt is only able to transfer up to or slightly below the speed of a Class 4 card, then buying a Class 6 rather than a Class 4 would be a total waste of money for the higher speed -

I was going to post something about the ADATA 8GB card I actually have, because I thought it was a great buy at 18.99, but when I checked their web site today, it turns out since I bought mine only about 2 weeks ago, they posted the above Class 6 speed card with 16GB!
I would make a fuss and return my old one, the only thing is, I don't even have any way of filling up the 8GB card - so I may as well wait until the 32Gb cards come out - also anothjer reason is my Tilt is getting to bee a little long in the tooth with scratches, etc. - so by the time the 32GB cards come down in price there may be other models coming onto the market I want to buy instead of the current phone I have now...

There will no doubt be better phones on the market in the near future (HTC's leaked road map has some nice looking phones due out this year, and that Nvidia Tegra system looks awesome). But, the beauty of the situation here is, pretty much any phone worth buying in the future should have a micro SD slot. It kind of sucked buying SD cards with Mini SD on the horizon, and then buying Mini SD cards with Micro SD on the horizon. But Micro SD seems to have settled in as the standard, so your 16 gig card will probably work on your next device.
According to A-Data's website, they don't make a 16gb microsd card
The link above takes you to a 16gb flash card, but it's not a microsd card. The cheapest ones I've seen are 50+ on ebay, probably fakes, but I have an 8gb, probably fake that I go on ebay, and it works perfectly.
I have a 16 gb micro sd card that I bought on ebay, and it works great. I've had no problems whatsoever with it, and I've really loaded it up! I paid $52.00 for it (shipping included).
It Supports up to 32gb
Correction 16GB MicrSDHC not yet available?
My first post tothis thread was wrong, that was a 16GB sd card, not a micro sdhc card. All I can find for highest capacity (class 6) is an 8GB card which I am now using (and itis fast):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211341
And it's only $15.49!
It appears that the class 4 and class 6 make little difference in speed tests, maybe the tilt read/write throughput gets maxed out at the class 4 speed??? Any thoughts anyone?

not that expensive when you consider its the size of your finger nail - it wasn't that long ago you'd be paying the same ammount for a 3.5" hdd
double the capacity, yet more than 4x the price of a 16gb card.. come on.
£27 delivered for 16GB or £99 for 32GB ?
That's the equivalent of paying an extra £72 for gaining a mere 15GB more space.
do you think its easy to just double the capacity of something thats physically so small?
This is like comparing the price of a 42" LCD TV and 50" LCD TV...do u think the prices are proportionate ?? The difference is even more when u compare 50" and 105" (for a 100% increase we may have to pay abt 500% or more)

To be fair, that's not an accurate comparison. A 105" screen has more than 4x the surface area of a 50" screen. So, paying 500% more is not all that unreasonable. However, to pay 300% more for double the memory, while not unhear of historically, is a bit steep. I'll wait until August when they're £50!
Lol why are you people defending your reasons to buy one or not to? Isn't it your own choice? xD

So why would a Class 4 32GB MicroSD card be useless? Or a Class 2 for that matter?
I have both a Class 4 and Class 2 16GB card and they both perform well - I'm sure there are differences (OK - I know there are differences) but to the human senses including watching full DivX movies and running PS1 Roms with FPSEce I have no problems at all? I personally am looking forward to the availability of a 32GB card - I tried to buy one from the guy on Ebay from Germany but he wouldn't ship to the UK - I would worry "too" much about Class 2, 4 or 6 just yet....

well..ok..maybe useless is quite a "strong" word..
but..i'll tell you what..i had an 8gb class 2 that (for the record) perform well..but now i bought a 16gb class 6 and trust me..with 10gb of mp3 and 4gb of divx has no slowdowns..never..and has an amazing transfer rate..
my point is: if u need alot of space for your device, u also need some speed..otherwise u got a tons of mp3s i.e. that only slow down your device..
just my two cents..

As I understand it the bus on the HD2 couldn't take advantage of the full class 6 speed anyway.
Sure, if you're transferring 10Gb of data from your computer onto the card directly, you'll notice the difference, but I reckon most people put their music on their SD card once, and leave it on, so it's hardly an everyday occurrence.
I know this is not a Sandisk but I think you might want to know.
Check this.
This is a class 4, very interesting for a cheap price. I'll follow your advice for now though.

16GB MicroSD - how much will the Class affect performance?

Evening XDA!
So... It's time I upgraded my HD2's capacity. 16GB MicroSD's are now reasonably (ish! @ under £30) priced so that's what I want to go for. Most are Class 2 but I've seen a few Class 6s knocking about too.
Is the speed difference, in reality, a massive issue? Stuff I do that perhaps might require speed:
Watching XviDs in TCPMP
Taking photos
TomTom/iGO
Music
Will I notice much of a difference between the two classes of cards?
Any feedback is much appreciated! Thanks!
u just can compare my
kingston sdhc 8gb class 6
to
sandisk sdhc 16gb class 2
i could figure out a speed advantage of the class 6 about 0.8 mb per sec
my 16gb class 2 got 3.8Mb/sec
my 8 gb class 6 got 4.5Mb/sec
copiing the same file....
if somebody got different rates pls post them there.
i never had any problem with the lower data transfer rate of my 16gb sdhc, smooth vids, instant starting apps, nearly same "short" install time for apps
Ps.: i was copiing a 7xx Mb video file to my HD2 in HDD mode
I have a class 2 16gb in my HD2 - I've had no problems with the speed.
watching AVI files with coreplayer is always smooth, tomtom loads up in about 3-4 seconds.
Remember the read speed is a lot higher than the write speed.
Generally you are going to be OK with a lower class. There are however certain things that a lower class memory card will limit, like HD video playback or a high speed game installed on the card (I think Asphalt is a good example of this).
You have to decide what your going to be using the card for and adjust how much you are expecting to spend accordingly.
Be aware that if you are going for a reputable brand then buy from a reputable site. Buying a Kingston or Sandisk from Ebay for a knock down price may mean you getting a cheap knock off. Tread carefully, and give this article a good read, give you a better idea of how easy it is to buy a knock-off card.

Hope this helps
I have been wondering the same because I have been debating on buying the new Kingston Class 10 16GB MicroSDHC card but if the HD2 can't fully utilize the speed, I will probably splurge for the SanDisk 32GB MicroSDHC card and get rid of a few of my 16GB MicroSDHC cards. It is kinda a hassle to carry around a card full of movies, card full of music, and a card full of pictures so I would love to get a 32GB when the price comes down a little more.
Anyone know any reputable sites??? I'm in Australia... So hard to find one to ship Australia and cheap!
I'm after the Kingston 16GB Class 10 card!!!
Thanks a lot for the tip guys. I'll definitely have to have a think about whether I'll need the extra speed, of the top off my head I don't think so but there's a good chance I'll be slapping a few PSX ISO's on the SD card in the future which I guess might be a factor!
@above - unsure of Aus sites, but stay away from ebay as another poster said. 99% of stuff from China (and a lot of the stuff local too) is cheap, low capacity memory hacked to appear to be 16GB and often enough they even include viruses on the damn things too!
UK buyers - Play.com are doing Class2 16GB's for £28 delivered (+Quidco cashback, www.quidco.com)

the only place in oz i could find a 16gb card for my hd2 was vodafone. it wasn't cheap ($89aud) but i've not had any issues with it. it says it's a class 2. i'm sure i read here on the forum that the class really isn't an issue with the hd2 anyway.

Umart sell the Kingston 16GB Class 2 Micro SD for $55. Unfortunately it's the only one they sell (no class 6 available on the website). Have purchased several times from them with no issues.
I did not even know there was a difference in classes. Glad I read this thread.
Class 10 SD cards
Anything over class 2 (which means it can read at a minimum or 2Mb sec) will be a waste of money on a mobile phone. Class 4 and up to the latest class 10, are designed for the speed needed on high end digital cameras that shoot HD videos.
Save your money, buy a good quality, genuine class 2 card, you will not see any difference on an HD2 with a class 10 card in it.
Some users reported that after changing their bundled class 2 card with class 6, music, album etc are up to 3 times faster in loading.
I just ordered a class 6 card to change it with mine class 2, will report about it.
Class
Im using the 16 gb kingston class 2 and it works like a sharm... if you are really picky you can go with a higher class card but be prepared to add some extra cash for a tiny bit of quicker preformance
Just so you will understand how the cards are built there is not much diference amongst the classes. This cards all have 16 Gb space whitch cover the tiny sd card. the diference is that on the higher class cards, the bytes will be shared out in a much more constructive way so it makes it easyer for the phone to read the data. we talk up to 2 seconds faster from the lowest class card to the highest class card. I belive thats from class 2 to class 6.
Good luck with your choice

32 GB Micro SDHC card?

Planning on picking up a 32GB micro SDHC card, to replace my current 8GB card, within the next two days.
Shooting for at least a class 4, which I will likely end up with, really don't feel like paying extra for a class 6 or 10 at the moment, especially for what I use it for (Music, Apps, Docs, Pics).
Just want to see if anyone else is rocking one yet, and if so which brand?
Thanks
ADATA 32GB Micro SDHC Flash Card with Adapter Model AUSDH32GCL10-RA1
Bought it on newegg for $70 and its a class 10. so far i am happy with it
I have a Kingston 16 GB class 4 in my Vivid. It works great for me, and was noticeably quicker loading the gallery and saving pictures on my old HTC Evo then the standard 8 GB class 2. I recall seeing some people having problems with class 6 & 10 in some phones, but don't remember the details.
32GB class 4 San disk work fine, currently i have no idea to fill it up with
Why stop at 32gb? SanDisk makes a 64GB micro SD card that is compatible... I'm using it right now, unfortunately I can't post the pic from the phone though... Google it also, if you order one, Google a discount code for 10% off and that'll cover most of shipping.

is that an Ultra sdxc?
Yes, but it still works, you just have to let the phone format it the first time you install it...

Great to hear, can we just dismount and use adapters to plug into a pc to transfer wiles at will? Does the formatting affect this ability?
I would do this quite a bit with my sdhc card.
now a good question, how much does this 64GB will cost you?
Here's a picture... I ordered mine directly from SanDisk, with the discount and plus shipping it was right around $220.

Cheaper straight from SanDisk...

on your next order to save 10%. This one-time use offer can not be combined with any other offers and expires on 1/1/2011.
i dont think 5x the cost for double the capacity is worth it
Well, my 32Gb sd card came in today, so I should go pick it up later today.
Are we given the option to format the card once placed into our phone?
...I have been looking around but haven't seen anything about it so fare...on HTC's site, the manual, etc...
Thanks
woa, what about class 10 not working? I have a class 10 8gb card that im planning on using (got it for like 10 bucks online 2 years ago). I really hope it works fine...phone comes tomorrow so lets see.
What I find amusing is that the Vivid is listed as having 16GB of memory. After OS install and bloatware that drops it to 8.83? wtf is that. Unless boot/recovery/radio all share which is highly doubtful and totally insecure
Class 10 doesn't necessarily mean faster speeds. It does mean faster speeds if you are transferring 8 gigs of music for example. But when it is in the phone, the random read/write speeds are actually worse than class 4. There is a thread on here somewhere about it.
...so how do we go about formatting them for our phone, or is it automatic?
(new to Android)
I grabbed a 32GB Class 10 on Black Friday for $40.

I'm surprised that people even do that. I guess money doesn't mean much to some people.

It is automatic. The SD card probably comes preformatted with FAT32, which Android accepts. It'll do the folder architecture automatically.
