How to force wifi when available?

Ok, this was working fine on the original AT&T ROM, but since I flashed to dutty's ROM, I cant get it to work. How do I force the phone to use wifi for net access when wifi is turned on, as opposed to medianet? Currently, I have to keep manually switching from medianet to "my work connection" in connection settings.
You can use Kaiser Tweak to set it to disconnect the GPRS connection after a set amount of minutes of inactivity. Then, when you enable WiFi, it should connect ONLY to WiFi.
I think the OP needs to sort out his "work" and his "internet" instead of just trying to turn off radio data.
I have medianet set to internet and my wifi set to work...not really clear what "work" is....just want to automatically use wifi when wifi is connected, and cant find the option to do that.
Anybody???
I did set both connections to "work".
Additionally I added my tmobile gprs connection to the work profile.
All seems to work great.
I can acces my network shares over wifi and connect to the internet. When no wifi is available it connects via gprs.
I keep getting confused on this same issue. i installed the same rom we are talking about. it shows up for me when setting up email accounts. with my wifi turned on, it still tries to go out the 3g connection. I want it to use wifi if that is what is turned on and i think that was working on the death star rom. For the drop down that says "The Internet" I basically want that to point to wifi if on then fall back to 3g. How do we do that?
It should not be named "work".
So whats the solution here?
Under Connections....Select which networks are automatically used:
Programs that connect to the internet should connect using ???
I can either choose Medianet or my work network, I'd like for it to use wifi when available, how is this done?
Programs that connect to a private network should connect using ???
I have this set to my work network.
Easy Solution to 'Auto Wifi"
Buy an Iphone, works seemlessly, and you get a browser too which works, something these HTC phones havn't had in 3 years.
The easiest way to force wifi (since gprs can be acting as a ***** ), is to keep wlan enabled and to install the NOGPRS.cab (aka the modaco nodata plugin) which allows you to disable (but keep) the gprs settings and which you can toggle on (and back off) when needed.
Great little app, saves much annoyance!
Is there an easy way to toggle wi-fi on/off, that can be assigned to an icon or button? At the moment I have to open Comm Manager each time and do it from there.

Setting for Tilt Data Plan: KaiserTweak

I just got the data plan and have yet to be able to connect to it? I've tried messing with the KaiserTweak settings. I have data connections enabled. I also enabled leave connection always on but that gave me the connection is not active icon. When I disable that function all I get at the top of the screen is an "H". What do the settings need to be in order to get the data connection properly functioning? I've yet to see the connection is active icon up top.
Update
I am able to update the weather on the HTC home page I'm using by enabling the data connection on all the time but the browsers still do not connect. I also don't see the active data connection icon.
did you uncheck proxy ? if not , do so
Proxy is already unchecked.
You do have a data connection the H means = HSDPA
(Like a 3G connection but faster)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HSDPA
Also try refreshing your settings (This works for me... and it's annoying!)
Start>Settings>Connections>Connections>Manage my existing connections.
Then "Next" thru all the settings until you get to the end. Press Finish. The data connection drops and the re-establishes.
See if your browser then works.
When I follow that path under connections I don't see a manage my connections option. All I see is "My work network" with 3 options under that. Add Modem, add vpn server and set up proxy.
Try this
Try these files. I use them whenever I flash a new rom and haven't had any trouble connecting since then.
One has all the medianet/isp settings and the other is for mms. I know you didn't say you have a problem with mms, but just in case
Just run and reset and everything should work.
Thanks, I'll have to try those when I get home. The browsers do connect to Wifi with no issues. Could there be a conflict with that? When there is wifi connection available which connection will it grab onto? Wifi of MediaNet? Those files won't affect the current wifi settings used to connect will it?

I've never had them interfere with WiFi since I use WiFi at home and MediaNet at work.
The settings cab is a pretty simple cab, it really just fills out all the information in the boxes to set up the connections but it saves a lot of time and gets everything right, for me at least, in one shot.
Let me know how it goes.
I tried those cabs and I still can't get any of the browsers to work. Nor my email. I keep getting a connect connect message. Anyone know the proper settings to get the browsers to work? However the weather is able to update on my HTC home page.
i dont nknow if youve tried this but everytime i flash a new rom i have to do this or ill have the same problem.. in your connections settings go through the meus until you find this device connects to: and by default it should say the internet.. but you have to select media net (att right?) cus thats the only way apparently media net is not the same as the internet!
ex: go to setings > connections > connections (icon) > advanced > select networks > "programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using: and itll probably be set to my isp and you ewant it on MEdia net

WIFI

Morning all,
I just got a touch diamond2, this is my first fone with wifi. a couple of questions!
when i'm at home or whereever and connect through wifi this has no impact on download limits within my fone contract?
Does the fone automatically no to use wifi for the internet connection when one is connected?
my fone doesn't stay connected to my home network, it finds it and connects ok but then a min or so later it says 'not connected, networks available'?
any help appreciated
Cheers
Gazza
Hi,
Using WiFi connections at home will not contribute to your mobile data plan. Wi-Fi data does not go over the cellular networks, and therefore is not part of your contract plan. This also means that you can use VoIP, streaming video, and other services over Wi-Fi, whereas you may not be able to over your mobile data plan.
The phone will not switch automatically between Mobile Data and Wi-Fi. You would need to close the Mobile Data connection, and re-start with Wi-Fi every time you wanted to switch.
Your mobile phone WiFi connection may be entering a power-saving mode when idle; To disable this, download the Advanced Config Tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=418151 and install it. Open the Advanced Config Tool and look for the Network settings. The bottom two options should be "Turn off Wi-Fi if no activity" and "Wi-Fi Auto off timeout" Change these as appropriate.
Hope this helps!
Hi, here are my answers based on my experience:
1) When connected to a WiFi network (eg. home, work, school etc) your phone operator is not in the position to charge you anything. You'll be charged only if using your operator GPRS,3g etc services. If you want to avoid Operator connections use Nodata.cab or make the right settings in Advanced config or HD Tweak.
2) Once Wifi connection established, it should have the priority on other data connections.
3) Wifi connection stability depends on radio and ROM you're using, my solution is to to set "Maximum Performance" in the Power Management tab under Wifi Settings. Not doing this leads to instable or even "fake" connections: windows says you're connected but no data traffic occur This is the only workaround I know, any other suggestion is super-welcome!
Cheers

Wireless problems

I have flashed my Qtek 9090 to WM6.5.5_23529_eng.
It detects the wireless networks but when I try to configure the networK, ny home wireless is configured to WPA2-PSK encryption AES on my Qtek only appears WPA-PSK on data encryption only appears TKIP.
that is not rom dependant. the most secure encryption the BA supports is wpa-psk, no aes, no wpa2. if you want to integrate the ba in your network you'll need to set you access point's settings down. also make sure, that you have wi-fi b/g simulcast, wi-fi g only also won't work.
Wireless problems 2
Hello, I've also flashed my blue angel with WM6.5.5_23529_eng and wireless do not work neither, while is was working with W2003 before flashing (so no hardware problem). Please note that same settings work with other 2 angels: w2003 & w6.1 and router is at home. Settings are:
infrastructure
wpa-psk
tkip
key is 26 chars alpha
These settings also work with a laptop and a netbook.
Do you have an idea to solve this?
Thanks for all your help
what exactly is the problem?
is the wi-fi not turning on?
does it not find the network?
or does it not connect?
or does it connect, but you cannot access the network/internet?
Wireless problems - details
Hello Chef Tony,
here are details:
go to Windows-Settings-WiFiMGR-Advanced and Status is "Wireless LAN OFF".
go to Windows-Settings-Connections-Wireless Managers shows Wireless ON.
go to Windows-Settings-Connections-WiFi: "Turn on Wi-Fi" is selected go to Advanced
see my SSID name, tap on it, verify name (next), authentication is "WPA-PSK", data encrytion is TKIP, password is ok (next) everything is grey, (finish)
WiFi say my SSID is unavailable, tap on Connect, never connects.
Go to IE, cannot connect to any site which is normal.
It never show to me a list of available connetions, neither seem to connect to the one defined.
thanks for your help

Explain (step by step) how you are turning wifi on (I have a feeling I know what the issue is)
ok, let me Explain (step by step) how do i turn wifi on:
go to Windows-Settings-Connections-Wireless Manager - it presents with Comm Manager and Wireless symbol is OFF, so I tap on it, it becomes ON.
now go to WiFi settings, "Turn on Wi-Fi" case is selected, tap on "Wireless Networks" and see my already defined network name which says "Unavailable".
Tap on this network, verify name is ok, on next screen authentication & encryption are ok, as well as password and then tap on Finish.
If I tap on Connect, my network seems to try connecting but it does not an the end.
Does it seem clear to you? I do not know what am i doing wrong, sorry.

I knew that you were doing that After a soft or even a hard reset, you do not turn on wifi via CommMgr. When you are in CommMgr, you go into Wireless Settings directly and turn it on through there "Turn Wireless On" option, and you get out. This will enable the driver, you only have to do this once and then you can use CommMgr as usual. Try it out and good luck!
Problem is over

HTC one wifi issues FIX!

Hi,
First of all i'm sorry for my English its not my main language.
After having troubles connecting my WiFi at home i start looking in forums for solution.
I had trouble to connect my home network, it shows like connected but there is no real internet connection.
I tried that power button thing and didn't work, i tried hard reset and didn't work.
After I saw a guy that said its related to security in my router so i start digging and realized that when i disable my WiFi security its connecting.
So the solution is:
1. go to your router setting>> wireless setting>> disable the password required.
2. connect to your home WiFi from your device, see if connected (hope it does)
3. go to your router setting>> wireless setting>> enable password required (WPA/2)
4. connect to your home WiFi from your device with the new password.
It works for me, hope i helped.
no luck for me
