I bought my Tilt on ebay for real cheap, because the speaker was not working. I would like to get it to work, so I was wondering if anyone had any ideas to help? I'm sure this is hardware related cuz I've flashed this phone many times. I've replaced the speaker wit on off of ebay but still the sound is routed! It clicks as if it wants to work, but there's nothing. Am I doomed to not having a speaker?
Nuthin huh
Maybe try reflashing the ROM

Not to hijack the thread but I too have a speaker related issue only mine works when I tape (duct tape) the top/edge of the speaker assembly to the body. anyway to replace this piece? seems to be coming apart..

Ok im listening to music when all of a sudden the music cuts out, so w/e i unplug and plug in the headphones and it works again. But lately the earphone jack cuts out with any little movement to the earphone at all, i cant listen to music with the phone in my pocket because it cuts out when i take a step.
If anyone has any easy fix for this weird problem, please tell me.
*note: just to be sure it wasnt software based, i went to stock rom and just to make sure it wasnt the earphones i tried it with 5 pairs
any advice?
i've got the same problem, tried using headset blocker, but that didn't help
edit: If someone know how to delete this function out of android, i would be very pleased, because i dont use it!
i fixed it with a little piece of plastic i put between the headphonejack and the case like this:

How did you get the plastic in there? i tried biting off a piece of plastic straw but it wont go in all the way
Mine used to do that, but changing to new set of headphones (where the male connector wasn't so worn) fixed the issue for now.
I think the headphone jack is just a little sloppy on tolerances (and a little bit weak too). You might need to send it in for repair.

i used a part of a plastic straw. http://de.academic.ru/pictures/dewiki/116/trinkhalm.jpg
but it was 15 minutes work but it was worth that cause the jack is working like before.
Hi guys, I post this problem with a very heavy heart because I know somewhere inside that it's unfixable.
So, I sent my phone in for the unbrickable mod, all was successful, but now the headphone jack is absolutely not responding... I tried 4 roms, full format, kernel change, voodoo, nothing works... When I plug in an earphone, all sound still comes from the speaker... It's like no matter what, the earphone jack has stopped responding... Bluetooth earphones work fine, proximity sensor works fine, as it is my understanding that the headphone jack and proximity sensor connectors are linked... Everything else works perfectly.
Can somebody pls suggest a simple hardware or software solution that might help me? I could easily send it in for repairs, but I can't go without this phone for a week, again. This is currently my only smartphone, so if nothing else works, I will send it in, hopefully, by the end of November, when I get my nexus prime. In the meantime, any ideas??????
Sent from my cell phone. DUH.
It's got to be a hardware issue. I've seen something similar to this for computers, but not Smartphones. Usually whatever component the headphone jack is soldered to is the part to get replaced and then it magically starts working. I can't imagine in any way that AdamOutler would accidentally break the headphone jack. Unless maybe there is a single wire he didn't put back together and its causing only the headphone jack not to work...just potential thoughts.
Unfortunately, your best bet is going to be to give it up for another week. I lost my Smartphone the past week due to Soft Bricking it and I went insane, so I know the feeling. JIG should be in the next couple days.
Good Luck!
Yea.. Nothing on Adam, he's been a huge help.. Just wondering if there was some sort of small adjustment I could do that will help... Otherwise I will just live with it for a couple of months n send it in when my nexus comes in.

Ok so the digitizer on my milestone went bad about a month ago, i ordered one off ebay and installed it myself. unfortunately while doing so i ripped the flex ribbon that has the sensors attached to it. went on ebay again and ordered that part and installed it, didnt destroy anything this time.
put the phone back together and everything seemed to be working fine, then i got a call, the person on the other end couldnt hear me and the proximity sensor caused the screen to go blank even before i put the phone to my ear
if i put the phone on speaker phone the person hears me but its very low im told, inserting the headset works fine, person can hear me perfectly.
i tried doing a recording with the phones sound recorder and all i hear is a hissing type sound when i play it back, i also downloaded an app to test the proximity sensor and its showing a distance of zero and when i put my finger near and further away from it its still saying zero.
tried doing a battery pull..hard reset, reflashing the froyomod that i have install and nothing seems to work, could this be a defect with the flex ribbon i bought? would this ribbon affect the microphone?
any help would be appreciated
Thanks
I also damaged the flex ribbon while changing the digitizer... where did you get the ribbon? Anywhere in the EU?
got it off ebay..it was shipped from china
bump........
I have the same problem and it's the effect of the digitizer replacement. Light can get access to the sensor between the digitizer and the sensor. If you press the left upper side of the digitizer the proximity sensor is working again, very annoying during calls. I tried to put some spongy tape behind the sensor and the metal backing plate it's better but not perfect.

Luvkillin, have you been able to fix this abomination of a mobile phone? I had a malfunctioning digitiser and replaced it, after that the microphone stopped working so i thought that I had broken the microphone. Changed the audio pcb and turns out that its still not working. My prox sensor also doesn't work but with all the other problems this is just a nuisance.
I found that motorola couldn't be arsed specifying the second microphone that is on the logic board and some acting as noise cancelling. I installed a db meter app and picks approximately 25db except when the phone rings which goes to 65db. So if the noise cancelling module is disabled by software, the mic could work without changing the logic board.
Did you manage to fix it?

No i havent, its just sitting at home in a drawer
i also installed a db meter app and got a consistent 16-19db when the phone is not in use. i assumed that it was too much of a coincidence that everything was working before and as soon as i changed the cable and digitizer they stopped working. plus the digitizer and cable i bought was for the milestone a855 and i have a a853. when i checked they seemed to be the same but i guess not.
im planning to just buy a new digitizer and cable for my phone specifically and see how it goes.

I believe its the noise reduction microphone damaged at some point in the disassembly. Did you check the 3 gold pins on the right upper side of the logic board?

Yea i did. dont see any damage at all to the pins or the board
The same problem here. I've changed digitizer and my proximity sensor stopped working. So I thought that I broke it during the work. I've ordered new main flex with the sensor. It was much better but still not perfect. But microphone went down. I think the problem is microphone board or the flex cable that connects it to the mainboard. Did you manage to solve the problem? I've ordered new mic and new flex.

did that fix yours?
anyone knows how to disable to noise cancellation microphone?
Hi guys,
to refer to the proximity sensor issue, i'd like to point you on my old post over here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9810999&postcount=8
Please check for the rubber...
Concerning the microphone, this might be related to the electrical contacts of the mic.
Please make sure again that everthing is right in place.
Would not harm to check the flex cable connectors as well.

scholbert
Solved problem
Hi to all,
I had problem with my proximity sensor, it didn't work at all. (I had cm7, cm6 and cm9 rom)
I installed stock rom and it works again. ))

Thanks all !
Had simular problem after replacing digitazer. if i press hard on upper side of the screen, then for some time everything comes to normal. So i desided to heat it up using a hair dyer for about 10 minutes, than press as hard as i can and wait till cool down. now everything is fine.

Hello,
I have the same problem. I just orderd this replacement part:
(www)ebay.com/itm/Louder-Speak-Speaker-Earpiece-Receiver-HTC-HD7-T9292-/180657772289?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a100ad701
(and some replacement tools: (www)ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=170522145519&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT
(PS I dont post very often (never) here, so I'm still not allowed to post links... You HAVE to put www in front of the links, otherwise they wont work !!)
In this video someone is disassembling his phone, you can see the speaker when he removes the back of the phone. It doesn't look that hard. You don't have to unplug everything like he does...... It seems like you only have to open the back and then you have acces to remove the speaker.....
youtube.com/watch?v=4UBCFsMDTGA
I guess it's gonna take a while before my parts arrive. If they do I will post a message wheter the replacements worked or not
Cheers !

Hi,
The replacement part and the replacement tools arrived this week and I just replaced my ear speaker. It was quiet easy actually. The hard part was to remove the bottom part of the back of the phone. Then you can easily remove the screws and the back. It was a bit difficult to remove the ear speaker. First I tried to unplug the speaker, but that didnt work. Then I removed the speaker (I just wiggeld a lot, it was really tight in a small frame) and when it came lose I could unplug it aswell. Then I installed the new ear speaker. The cord of the replacement speaker is a bit longer, so I crolled it on the speaker. Then I set everything back in place and the new speaker works as a charm. It cost me about 30 min (but I was also watching the football match....) and it cost only 4 euro something.
Good luck repairing your phone !

A foto of the parts I orderd.
I replaced the battery in my wife's phone and immediately afterwards I hear no audio from the earpiece. When I plugin headphones I can hear audio fine from the headphones, youtube pauses when I remove the headphones which indicates it does know that the headphones aren't plugged in and should be sending audio to the earpiece. Does anybody have any idea what connections might be the issue? I have taken the thing apart 4 times trying to find what connector might be misaligned with no luck thus far and really don't want to have to get another phone.
Same exact problem here...
Hi there archangelus2,
Have you ever found a fix to the problem? I also noticed that my loud speaker is now not as loud as it used to be... and by trial and error, I found out that squeezing the top right corner (looking at the screen) it gets a bit louder so I guess that some of the contacts aren't touching well or some other odd crap is going on. The phone is easy enough to open and take apart (if you know what you're doing and are very careful and gentle), but I did notice that given the complains that have been posted post-repair, it does not seem to be too reliable when putting it all back together. The earpiece going completely mute is complete nonsense for instance as there isn't all that much that could go "wrong" in those contacts and I wonder if something gets messed up at the software level after a replacement of hardware like the battery, is performed.
Any help and info will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers! and stay

Is there anyway that you accidentally messed with the earpiece? There is a small rubber protector inside the phone on top of the earpiece, I suggest you check to make sure this is positioned properly on the speaker.
Best of luck,
Matt
Yes, I just got my earpiece fixed. I had a 16 GB AT&T model who's sound was terrific. Then i got greedy and went for a 32 GB latin american model (some telecom I forgot the name of) its earpiece sound was extremely low. I ordered 2 earpieces from ali express just in case they were to be changed. Yesterday I took it to a shop and the guy fixed the original earpiece by applying some tape around the earpiece to focus the sound out of one way and now its as good as new. $10 and am happy.
So yeah probably in your case I'd say he kinda misplaced the earpiece. You may get it checked.
