Has anyone had any real trouble using the overclocked/undervolted kernels?
Thanks
You cannot brick ur phone by flashing a new kernel... currently, the only thing we can flash which will brick the phone is the radio... And most people will not have any problems with UV or OV kernels... some might face problems like random reboots or bootloops with the extra UV kernels...

Can't you burn your processor out?
you can by over clocking it but you would notice the extreme heat from the phone. under clocking no you cant i've been using it for a while with no problems.

and you can set a SetCPU profile to slow the processor down when they phone gets hot.
Its funny that this thread exists, cause my girlfriend left my phone in the car while the SetCPU was 111300MIN AND MAX, and I live in Arizona. Needless to say I don't have an N1 anymore
but its 4-1-10, so not really

that was an april fools joke that didn't really make sense. Did your phone fry in the sun?
If so it wasn't because of it being overclocked. One weekend I left a credit card in a car, needless to say, when I opened the car door on monday, it was bent to the shape of my seat.
LOL I was bout to say....

Woah! you really are running 312 MHz??? You may not be doing a whole lot more with your phone soon...
Sounds to me like you are hooked (see the bottom of my sig for a thread you may need to join ). Really depends on what you mean by what else you can do. You can always try other roms so you can see whats different about them. Then if you really get the bug, start learning how to cook.
But I'd seriously be careful with that massive overclocking you are doing... I've pushed mine to 273Mhz and it works, but I'm not comfortable (and don't see that much gain) so I back off to 260.
Good luck...

is in the t bad to overcook?...or massively overcook?
When you overclock you run the risk of overheating nd putting strain on your processor by doing that. And because its an un natural load being put on it, it could be damaged permanently to such an extent it wont work anymore.

If your processor gave up then theres nothing more you can do to your phone..
Hi everyone!
I have a t-mobile wing and overclocked it to 247mhz with battery status. I have read in some posts that some people have it overclocked up to 274 or beyond, but everytime I try to overclock beyond 247 it just freezzes. Any trick on how to raise the speed?
r u using a stock t-mobile rom?

na man just go look up some roms on this site n ull find alot of good rom n tmobile rom sucks n roms on this site is like 50 times better than those
Overclocking past 247
Same problem here; sometimes 247 gets the problem; but ..
Basically when it bursts up past that; the display gets verticle lines and ends up all messed up; it will straighten itself out when the burst kicks it back down a nothc; if i set it to a higher rate (not a burst) then I can still change it back (granted i can't see the screen i can only hit the right keys) so the phones not freezing the display is just not handling the cpu spike;
I've tried it on many many different roms; I don't think that's the problem..
Not all CPU's can handle the extra speed. Just like desktop CPU's.

Alright, I'm rooted. Now, I want to have the WiFi tethering and I'd like to overclock. Can I do both? Is there a kernel that does both, or do I run em one at a time? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Depends, setiroN puts out a very nice kernel. I use his in my ROMs. On a side note, I would move this to the Q&A before the army shows up!
Edit: you need a custom ROM to gain access to the tethering function.

If you haven't done it yet, flash Perception or Cognition, they both have wifi and usb tethering on. I haven't played with the others, but if you do some reading you find out about the others.

Yeah, I saw more technical stuff over here so I posted. My bad. I think I want to stay away from ROMs. Idk though. I've heard they're cool, but always break something. I just came from iPhone and I was up to speed. Now I'm such a lost n00b! My goal WAS to overclock and enable tethering and stay with the stock ROM. Are there any ROMs that don't break ANYTHING? Thanks dude.

You can always go back to stock, but you never will once you play with some lagfixed kernels and custom roms. I thought this thing blew the iCrap out of the water stock, and its amazing now. Overclocking sounds cool, but unless you are a gamer and actually need the extra clock speed, i'm not sure its worth the effort. I have had ridiculous battery life just using 1GHz and Voodoo lagfix. I would def recommend you try P9.5 (perception) as I have no problems with anything and the best GPS ever.

No disrespect meant to the other ROM devs. I am a DG fanboy and found what I was comfortable with and haven't looked around at all, but I know there are a lot of people out there that like roms made by other devs, and I'm sure they are just as good.
the Perception 9.5 in my signature is the link to the perception thread. The sticky at the top of the thread has all of the guides for beginning to flash roms.
check this out as well, haven't watched it but it should give you an idea of whats going on:

Alright. Finally got back home and got it flashed. Seems fine. Battery life seems a little shorter. I only have about an hour with it. A few questions, what is Blinky? And what is BLN?
bln is back light notification. it can sometimes be turned off in recovery if the kernel has a modded recovery. basically if you get a text email or other alert the phone will put on the soft key back lights. i dont care for it because im never looking at my phone at it is never in a visable location for the lights to catch my attention. basically if i can see the lights im probably about to unlock my phone anyway in which case i can see the notification in the status bar.
blinky is an app that has something to do with bln but it didnt work when i tried to use it.
give the battery a couple days to calibrate. the batstats file can get all screwy making you think you have battery drain. if you charge the phone while it is off and then start the phone the two battery meters should be close to each other. if they are not then the batstats are likely off. you can clear them in clockworkmod recovery. over the coarse of a few days you may see the battery life appear to get longer.
i believe the accepted procedure for calibrating is charge to full. clear batstats. charge to full +1-2hrs. turn off phone and charge to full again +1hr, turn on phone and charge to full.
but i tend to just clear bat stats once and use the phone. im not gonna dis anyones method but i see no point in the calibration thing.
So I went to look check my phone, and it slipped from my hand, tried grabbing it, Felt like slow-mo, and just missed it, and watched it fall into the deep fat fryer, So I then had to watch it cook for 4 mins at 240°C.
Obviously turn of the fryer, and tried to dig out with tongs.
The interesting thing is it still works! Tad greasy, absolutly EVERYTHING work, Apart from the speak, So its now useless as a phone :/
Is the speaker user replaceable?
Pictures of a surprisingly undamaged phone considering what it went through.

well, that's a pretty interesting story, man.
do you mean the speaker is broken or the microphone? you'll probably be able to get it repaired by samsung assuming you have a warranty on it.
With respect, would you really trust a phone, even repaired that you DEEP FRIED for 4 minutes? Be lucky you can get your data off it and buy a new phone!

Do you really think so They'll see you coming from miles away. You caused the damage yourself, it's not like it's a design fault.

Hmmm deep fried Gingerbread...lol
In all honesty, funkyblue is right. Get what data/contacts you can (if not backed up to google) and get yourself a new phone. If your headset port isn't caked up with grease then maybe you can use it as a glorified MP3/music player.
How on earth did the battery not die?
Forget the speaker, I think the main thing we are all curious about is...do you eat a deep fried SGS with ketchup, or malt vinegar?
Post the pics
BAHAHAHAHA (sorry!), this is the funniest title since someone deep froze their sgs (iirc).
But as to your question, I wouldn't be surprised if the speaker is replacable, iirc its a modular component!
EDIT: wait, was it 454 or 240 degrees? Big difference
or you can keep it and use phone with bluetooth headset???
Pictures have now been added, Sorry for the delay!
The speaker is now working albeit very quietly, There is this greasy ring inside the camera when taking a picture, Guessing oil is trapped in there.

Has anyone experienced this?
Although at first when I downloaded Bakery Story it seemed to have a lag like a wounded turtle crawls which made me doubt that my device is starting to suck but after when I downloaded Restaurant Story I had the same thing in front of me which made it certain that my Raider 4G is innocent. I have read a thread on the storm8 forum but there nothing or no one seems to be willing to resolve what's occuring. These are interesting games but wonder what is causing them to lag.

I'd blame poor memory management in ICS...
You can try raising your minfrees...
Any of the kernel tuning apps will let you...
If not that... Then its the 1.2ghz CPU clock speed...
I don't see why you wouldn't be running PAC or are you holding out for the return of cm?

My laptop's motherboard fired up a couple of months back and I haven't been able to get that replaced since, I don't have any other system in spare that I can use so I can't flash anything at the moment.
I've read in a thread that these games are not optimized for dual core processor phones yet, no word from TeamLava. Convinced me to believe that?
And from 'raising minfrees', what exactly do you mean?

It would affect androids low memory killer...
Get kernel tuner...
Look for either minfree or OOM on the main screen..
Choose either aggressive or very aggressive...
Try your game...
Hopefully your rooted... Or else this prolly won't work

Yup, there's an issue with their games.
Tried setting the OOM to very aggresive, same thing.
Edit: Playing it on my sister's Acer Iconia B1-A71 with stock Jellybean (4.1.2) and it works like a charm!
So it seams there's something seriously wrong with the stock ICS with HTC Sense, it really sucks because the Iconia also has a dual core processor and this game works great on it.
Although on my Raider, while the game is on, I press the back button of the capacitive phone buttons and the screen displays a dialogue saying 'Are you sure you want to quit this game?', and while I look back in the game, everything runs silky smooth. This is strange.
@rignfool
Does this mean I need a new rom?
