Default APK Install - Touch CDMA Android Development

I noticed after installing several apps from the Marketplace that I am using up 116MB out of 128MB of space. I thought the apps installed to the memory card? Why would so much internal memory be taken up? Is there a way to move them over? It's not cache taking up the space since I tried clearing that and it was less than 1MB total. If it's not any of this, what could be taking up all the space?

Apps2SD is only available on mssmison's 2.1 EClair build, if your not running that then you don't have it. If you are, did you enable it?

Where did you see this? I'd guess you're looking at the system partition. Apps go to /data.

I'm running RLS4 with the xxAndroidxx theme which has memory widgets. I guess I'll load up mssmisons's version

Without App2SD...

Hey guys,
I have been using App2Sd with ALL my roms.
But...today I was wondering....would I really need it?
I have about 50 apps installed (I can cut that #)...and I'm using the SuperD Rom.
So...do ya'll think I could use the Rom without App2SD?
Or is 40-50 Apps way too much?
I don't have any games installed.
I don't use A2SD (s*itty class 2) and my phone runs fine, but i usually don't have more then 20 apps installed and I remove a lot of the system apps I don't use. Right now, going into settings->SD card, I have 47.31MB of space available on internal phone storage. If you can fit all your apps inside of that, then you should be golden=p.
Hey bud, thanks for answering.
Here's some more information.
I have a 372MB EXT4 partition.
I'm currently using 97MB of it.
I currently have 78.07MB of available space in the internal phone storage.
I know I can uninstall some crappy programs and get to like 40 apps.
Just copy the apk's to /system/app/. It' won't move them back to /system/sd/app, and will stay on the internal memory.

Afraid that that is the wrong partition.
I filled my stock memory up quick I love apps to sd.
And if you use some apps like certain gps systems it wont even fit on the stock phone memory. I think its a must.
40 apps is pushing it on internal memory. I would suggest keeping a2sd. What's the harm?

[Q] Internal memory question

Hey guys, I tried searching to see if this was possible a repeated question but didn't find anything so I am sorry if it has already been covered and I missed it.
Anyways, a few days ago I put cyanogen froyo on my hero but didn't like it so I reverted back to my nandroid backup. Then I tried 2 different 2.1 roms that allowed LWPs, ZenHero and Regaw 2.1. I ended up reverting back to my original nandroid backup but now my internal memory only shows 34MB free, which was previously 16 until I ran cachecleaner. I'm somewhat of a noob to android and have been doing a lot of reading on here before I make any change to my phone. But the 34mb seems abnormally low. Is there any possibility that some of the previous ROMs have left data on my phone which is causing this? If so how can I go about completely wiping all of them from my system?
Again, sorry if this has been covered. I tried my best to see if it has been asked before, and thanks for any advice you may have.
I've said it before but I am really impressed with the developers here and the friendliness and helpfulness of the community here.
Which ROM?
How many apps you installed?
Are you using A2SD?
If you not using A2SD which move the App to SD card then you will run low on space on /data.
I'm hoping you talking about Internal Phone storage memory.

1. Currently I am back on the nandroid backup of the original 2.1. I have put on cyanogen 2.2, ZenHero, and RegawMod on it previously. I used cyanogen twice so I was worried that maybe when I installed the second time that it installed again in a separate location taking up twice the space. If that makes sense.
2. I don't know the exact number but I wouldn't say it is anything large. Maybe in the 10-15 range. I went through the application manager and sorted by size, most of them were under 1mb with a few noteable exceptions (google maps, facebook, and soem other games around the 3mb range). I did notice that my contacts storage was 20+mb, probably because it synced with my facebook and downloaded everyones picture...not just my contacts. After clearing the cache for contacts storage it went down to 340kb. I lost the facebook sync, but it was beginning to annoy me anyway.
3. Not atm, however I should probably get on this since I just got a 4 gb class 6 sdhc. I haven't messed with the partitions yet though, baby steps.
Yes, I am talking about the internal storage. I have 3+gb free on my card.
It seems like Dalvik cache and /data/data must be using up the space.
I used to have 25 mb internal storage before I moved the apps to SD. I had space problem like this long time ago with 2.0 and 2.1. After I got mine 8 GB class 6 card two moths ago, I moved my apps to SD and my internal memory is around 60 MB since than. I haven't moved my dalvik-cache to SD.
If your using 2.1 deodexed version of the ROM, I'm guessing it normal for this ROM as it use more internal space for dalvik-cache.
Other guru might cheap in to correct my understand on deodexed version of the rom.

Thanks so much, I was concerned that I was somehow dwindling my memory down and fearful that another rom would brick my phone because of a lack of space. This question wasn't based on a complaint with the phone or rom, more of a request to hear something along the lines of "it's normal" to ease my mind.
Damn...I have CM6 Nightly 8-25 and I have 125 MB free of internal storage..Only have 10 apps installed. CM6 is the ****

Notification says i'm low on storage. I should have 1gb left

I keep getting a persistant low storage notification. It persists even after switching roms as soon as I restore all of my apps. In settings it shows that I have about 1 gb free. However, many of my apps are on the sd card and the phone will not allow me to move them to primary storage because it says I don't have any free storage on the device.
What's going on here? How can I fix it?
Are you on CM7 or 9? Both of these put their application data in a smaller partition than the Samsung ROMs for speed reasons, but you can run out of space much more easily. Download a cache cleaner from the market, clear out all of your application caches, and see if that resolves the issue.
Also, move movable apps to sd card

I believe AOSP ROMs are the same. Clear caches and move apps to SD.

I'm getting the same message just recently and I too have over 1 gb phone storage left... so is this number wrong? I understand what u mean about apps on smaller partition but does that mean it actually smaller then the 2gb space? I'm on cm9. Sgsics 4.0.3 rc 4.2
So even though I have over 1.2 gb of phone storage left and over 8 gb of USB storage left I should still be installing on ext SD? And or cache cleaner? Is there way to find out how much app storage space I get on these roms? I'm only using 743mb thus far. Does this mean I will run out soon even though it says I have lots of room left?
Thanks

As I understand it, it's not that it is a wrong number so much as an incomplete one. The apps are installed there, but their cache, settings, databases, etc actually live in data/data for performance reasons. This is the partition that is actually full. You can check the available space with a terminal emulator by typing "df datadata" (without the quotes, of course."
This is why clearing app caches usually helps.

How can i fix this? I also have 32GB SD card completely FREE
I moved some apps to SD card but that does not free up space. Is there a way to resize this partition?

FACTORY RESET SHOULD FIX THAT. POSSIBLY THE MOUNT POINT CHANGE MADE THE PREVIOUSLY INSTALLED APP EXIST, BUT UNSEEN.
OR IF YOUR MIND IS AS STRONG AS YOUR CAPS LOCK, TRY MOVING YOUR PREVIOUS ROM'S INTERNAL TO THE CURRENT ROM'S MOUNT POINT.

hAVE YOU DONE ANY CWM BACKUPS? I HAD A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH IT, ALL MY BACKUPS WENT TO SOME WEIRD FOLDER IN .../STORAGE/ INSTEAD OF THE SDCARD, THEY TOOK A LOT OF SPACE AND WERE HARD TO FIND

I second that. had this happen to me.
I've had something similar, but for me it was incomplete downloads being cached in the the internal storage - a few roms, an attempted firmware download and there was 1.5GB of stuff that I couldn't immediately locate.
One of my favourite utility apps is called Disk Usage - this gives you a visual representation of what is taking up space on your SD cards (so bigger files/folders are large on the screen), I forget the exact name of the folder but thanks to this app I could quickly work out what was taking up so much space.
And some versions of CWM do seem to hide the back up somewhere not obvious - my average back ups are betwen 1.5 and 2GB so one or two of these will eat up most of your internal storage.

Storage space running out

Hi
Not sure if anyone is still looking at this forum but here goes.
Can anyone tell me why my GT-N7000 keeps reporting "Storage space running out" when there seems to be a fair bit of space left according to Windows Explorer?
Card
4.73 GB free of 29.7 GB
Phone
8.76 GB free of 10.9 GB
I tried deleting a few apps but this made no difference. Today I uninstalled an app and then tried to re-install it but the system told me there was insufficient space.
Trevor
Check the data storage space... The one that's about 1.97 GB. That's where the apps get stored.

Thanks for the reply.
Can you be a bit more specific about where I would look for the data storage space? Also, how do we know that the folder would be about that size?
Trevor
Settings storage.. If the space is running out then you will need to delete some apps or repartition.
