Which version of Android Mark should I have? - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
Recently flashed the latest SuperD. The version of Android Market which came with the base I flashed first was 1.66.
Is this current? aTrackDog is showing there is 1.71
Am I on the current version of market for my G1?
If not, how would I go about obtaining the new version of Android Market?
Thanks

Bump.
It's been 3 days, reckon I'll give it another shot.

There's no reason to update the android market, not like it's going to get a new ui or anything as apps are updated by themselves regardless of the market version.

Who is Android Mark? He sounds like a cool guy.

and not afraid of anything.

a question about 1.6 update

ok...
if i understand correctly there is a new market "look" with the 1.6 donut update
when i first rooted my g1 and accessed the market there were very few apps i could actually find when i went searching for them(i.e astro)
i dont know exactly why but im guessing it was because of the different firmware that was being used at the time?
so how will this 1.6 update affect new ROMs?
im using drizzys blur-hero ROM and it has the (i guess) 1.5 market
will the apps in the market with the new update be easily available or will i more than likely have to flash to a new ROM that uses more up to date firmware as time goes by?
im kinda hoping i dont seeing as how its taken me two months of reading the forums and trial and error to finally get a ROM i like thats stable enough for daily use...lol!
thanks for any input in advance!
What? The Market access the same downloads regardless of version because they query the same server.
well iirc
when i first rooted and went to rc29 i tried looking in the market for some of the apps i had been playing around with before and alot of them werent there...
i dont know why it was like that but i got to thinking that maybe the same thing might happen with the 1.6 update
no the market is way spiffier with the new 1.6 update. for shizzle.

well in some roms, there are market bug where some apps couldnt be found in the market this was a common proble in drizzys 2.3-the last 2.X update.
and why use drizzys blur now when maxisma took over his rom.
but drizzy will be releasing a fulll blur rom sometime today(according to his twitter)

Wiping back to a google ROM

Hello,
I'm running the latest stable version of cyanogen 5.0.7, which is the last, i think.
And i'm having trouble with my APN settings. I want to perform a clean wipe and revert to a google ROM to see if I can get the APN settings to work on my G1 with that. Is this possible without actually breaking the phone?
I don't think it'd be downgrading as the latest Google ROM is 2.2 and 5.0.7 comes up as 2.1 on my phone.
If it's safe, could someone tell me how?
from what i understand u basically wanna go back stock so if thats then heres a link
although its been a min since i did it this way but hope this helps
thanks for the reply.
according to this page, G1 only supports up to Android 1.6 in its official form?

You know, there might have been an actual REASON why you installed a cyanogen rom.... and it was probably because of the fact that HTC DREAM only has official images to 1.6!
Unless you were just installing cyanogen rom to make life difficult....?
how could installing cyanogenmod make life difficult when it has so many cool features. I can't even remember if android was even past a 1.6 release when i started using cyanogen. what was the point of your reply?
either way, i can't remember the reason why i installed cyanogen. could have just been purely for the sake of modding.

whats the latest swype ver i can use with cm7 on my cappy? when i restore from tibu it says used for a different device or something like that, i forgot. just give me a version number or something..theres too many files on mobilism.org and i dont wanna do that beta testing you always have to renew it everynow and then..i just need the latest ver apk file install and use it continually..thanks a lot!
i have also used an older ver but for those who can tell..the newer versions have nicer bigger keys like theyre all spread out..the older ones are smaller and kinda darker..new on is nicer looking and i have big fingers..thank you again.
No one in the CM7 Q&A thread knows?
The ROM-specific stickies are here for exactly this kind of thing. Post there instead of starting a new thread.

[Q] StockROM?

Hello!
Im new to android story so please excuse my stupid questions.
I would like to install the barest version of gingerbread on my phone. Where to find it? Im not clear if stock mod is what i have on my phone now (original) or is it android without the preinstalled apps that i cant uninstall? I Would like the version without any preinstalled apps.
And since im meddling with my phone, what do you think is the best kernel to use with bare gingerbread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2198341
Gingerbread is Android 2.3. The S Advance has Android 4.1.2 available for it (AKA Jellybean). Follow the above guide to upgrade to Jellybean, and if you want you can also install a custom kernel or ROM.
Stock ROM Gingerbread 2.3.6

Stock Rom is a System Rom which comes preinstalled in your particular android device when you buy it. Stock Rom is preinstalled by the manufacturer of that particular device such as Samsung, Nokia, Sony etc.
If you have Gingerbread 2.3.6 just do a factory reset and from Settings > Application Manager > force stop unwanted apps.
What you want is unclear in your post. What I could realize from your writing that you want a fresh Gingerbread to flash your device.
You can download official Gingerbread 2.3.6 from here. Choose OS version 2.3.6
where do u live? what is the official release for your device there?

Thank you for your replies people.
What I want is to install fresh gingerbread, but some kind of bare version, non samsungs version like i have now. Without preinstalled apps that i cant uninstall. Is that even possible?
What im asking is how is such bare version called and where to find it? and since im doing that i thought i could upgrade kernel but i m new to whole meddling with android thing so i thought i could ask which kernel is good to use with this version of gingerbread?
I live in croatia. There is no croatian version on the page above, besides, those are all samsung versions, like the original on my phone, right?
By bare version, I'm guessing you mean like stock android version like the nexus have. Unfortunately for this device, we don't have the stock android firmware. For GB, even the custom roms you found here is based on stock samsung firmware. So, there will be some samsung apps preinstalled in the custom rom.
If you upgrade to Jellybean 4.1.2, you can try the latest CM 10.1 nightlies (although it is not recommended for newbies, as it is still test builds but has gotten to a pretty stable version). Cyanogen (CM) roms are built from source and it is very similar to stock android interface.

Thanks. Thats what i wanted to know.
I ended up on this forum becouse i wanted to install new cyanogen, but after some reading here it seems that GB is still better option in terms of battery and performance. So i concluded that best bet would be gingerbread without the bloatware. Maybe ill try some GB based rom.
Anyway, i hope this information will be useful to someone else also. Or delete the thread if thats the practice on this forum.
One last question. Im pretty sure i know the answer but better be safe. If I root my phone, i will be able to unistall all the apps that were preinstalled that i cant uninstall now?

Yes, you can. You're granted with superuser access by rooting your phone. So you will be able to remove any app and play with your device anyway you want. :good:
Rooting Gingerbread is a bit tricky for newbies. Follow the guide in the following link
