Push for Yahoo? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way that we can get push on yahoo mail?

This is what I have did on my N1
Incoming Setting:
username: [email protected]
password: your email password
IMAP server: imap.mail.yahoo.com
Port: 993
Security: SSL (Accept all certificate)
Outgoing Setting:
SMTP Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Port: 465
Security: same as above
Require sign in: box ticked
Good luck..

Thanks for replying. So are you getting your yahoo mail push with these settings?

works like a charm! I always thought you needed a premium account but it works. THANK YOU!

I didn't think this would work over WIFI without a mod, though it should work fine over 3G/edge/2g.

Yahoo doesn't provide push for mobile phones except I think Iphone.
If you're on the latests cyanogen the email.apk was modififed to allow yahoo to work over wifi.

Does this mean that they now support push email using the stock email app? I almost completely switched gmail because of that...

They only support PUSH over their own apps, but yahoo didn't allow imap connections over wifi networks, only over 3g networks at one point.

Ok, that is what I thought. At this point, I really am disliking yahoo. I am contemplating dropping their premium service (which I have had for over 10 years). Their spam detection has gotten horrible, and their app really sucks (if you are a strong user of filters and folders like I am). I am much happier with gmail. Yahoo used to be a market leader for email, but now I find them just as bad as hotmail.

I agree, their new mail format really sucks! Half the time it will not load a page or a message for me. I get tired of refreshing every 2 pages I try to see. I also can't stand that you cannot change the notifications on the market app. Now that I see you can sync email through imap I just might go that route instead of the market app.

I already have switched to gmail as my primary account. My yahoo was just getting overrun with spam (and I was getting annoyed with their "upgrades"). Gmail just kept getting better and better, so I eventually sent out the email asking everyone to start using the new address. But I do have over 25 disposable email addresses setup through yahoo and I have filters from there that will email them to my gmail (which then gets sorted into labels), so that is why I am struggling with possibly dropping their premium service. It would just take forever to go to all those sites (since some addresses are used on multiple sites) and switch them to a gmail disposable address (and I don't like gmail's implementation as much as yahoo's).

Push email that actually works

Guys,
I have to say Emansio push email works flawlessy - I have tried them all Emoze, mobiPush god knows what else but emansio really delivers
Just thought I would mention it as I was getting frustrated trying to find something decent that worked great with diamond, yahoo, gmail combo...
MODS sorry thought I posted this in Diamong Home forum not ROM Development....
This might be a stupid question - why didn't you just get an exchange account and use ipush email the way it was designed ?? Some exchange accounts can give you pop/imap account checking/forwarding aswell.
Where do you get an exchange account?

Yeah it works really well and is very lightweight - I too tried emoze but exscuse the term it's a bit (cough) sh!*t.
Emansio so far has been flawless for me... I highly recommend it!

I could do but let me explain I have to email accounts:
1x Hotmail - which is push enabled anyway as per any hotmail account with a little tinkering
1x Googlemail which is my primary email address - I also use google calendar and contacts.
So Emansio is pushing Googlemail and OggSync is syncing Google Calender and contacts... this seems so far a flawless combo with hardly any overheads in terms of memory and CPU.
I am not that familiar with exchange - will exchange cater to all my needs?
I use mail2web which has been excellent. I get hotmail and yahoo mail to forward emails to my mail2web account and then this gets pushed to my phone. It syncs calendar, mail, contacts and tasks. Calendar, Contacts and Tasks are then periodically synced to my PC outlook via activesync and so all is in sync. The basic service is free, but there are other services where you have to pay. Not very expensive.
Don't know whether google calendar would sync through this though. You'd have to check.

How?
How is this possible with Hotmail??
Sorry for being such and idiot but I have some questions:
1. Is pushing email free?
2. What is the procedure of push email, what i mean is how does it actually work?
Thanks a bunch fellas.
Go to windows live on your pc and sign in to your live (hotmail) account, then on the top right hand side there is 'options', at the bottom of that list there is 'more options', under the heading Manage your account, one of the options is 'forward to another email account'

1. It depends, some exchange hosts charge a monthly charge, some like mail2web have both free and charged services. However, you obviously have to pay for the data, just like any other kind of data service. If you are on an unlimited data tariff, this won't worry you.
2. No idea how it works (I don't know how my car works either, just as long as it goes when I turn the key I don't care)!

Basically sign into windows live on your Diamond then goto options choose "sync schedule" then set it to "as items arrive" and volia free push hotmail...
The advantage of doing this will mail2web is that you can get all your mail pushed to you from all your accounts. Saves fiddling about with lots of mail boxes on the device. But I'm sure some people would prefer to keep them separate.
Presumably for proper push mail to work the software will need to maintain a data connection all the time? Is this the case with Emansio, and does it drain the battery a lot more?
At the moment I just use google and its imap settings in messaging with it connecting every 30 mins.

Same concern!
Call me dumb, but I use yahoo mail and every time I get a new email it pops up on my email tab, I've set it to check every hour, you can set it for less if you get more emails than me(5 x pink diet patch and 20 x penis extension, both not required). I have a nice unlimited data plan but why would anyone who has a diamond not? If you have a diamond in my opinion you must have an unlimited data plan, otherwise you are just not getting the full benefits of such a beautiful device and should roll back to the awesome old magician.
Yes it can drain battery...
You shoudn't have push email just for the sake of having it...
...yes Emansio always maintains a constant data connection as does push Hotmail... and naturally this will shorten the battery life somewhat in addition to that if you don't have an unlimited data plan then your fooked... but if your out and about and regularly use email for business or personal then push email is for you.
I stop it when I am out shopping etc as there is no need for it but if I need to be contacted easily via email then I activate Emansio.
For those who wan't to find out how it works... cmon guys you have the net and presumably a Diamond with Opera LOL - www.google.com need I say more.
OggSync is great for Google Calendar BTW
This is also new out in beta for those wanting to sync google mail and calendar. Don't know anything about it but might help someone.
http://www.nuevasync.com/
Hi,
Nuevasync looks interesting: Unfortunately it's not supporting email yet.
Emansio: Agree, it's the only push plugin which works fine (e.g. in sleep mode etc). BUT: It's expensive and it ssupports the main email folder only. The meaning of Imap is having the folder structure on the server, so I expect such a tool to inform about every new email in every folder I subscribed to.
According to Emansio support this feature is currently worked on and might be available later in 2008.
Cheers,
Kingshill

Get Your Live (Hotmail, Live, MSN, etc.) Email Without Using Live

Microsoft FINALLY opened up the POP3 ports for Hotmail, Live, MSN, etc. accounts. That means that we can get our email on our devices again without installing that stupid Live program.
This is especially great for me because the newer version of the Live Mobile program was crashing my Manila and freezing my email tab so I had to uninstall it.
I just set up my hotmail account and it worked immediately.
Here's what you need to do:
1. Create a new mail account
2. Don't put the real domain. For example, for hotmail, I put "hormail" because the device will automatically tell you to go to live.com to set it up. You can change your email address after you put in the server settings.
Here are the settings:
POP server: pop3.live.com (Port 995)
POP SSL required? Yes
User name: Your Windows Live ID, for example [email protected]
Password: The password you usually use to sign in to Hotmail or Windows Live
SMTP server: smtp.live.com (Port 25)
Authentication required? Yes (this matches your POP username and password)
TLS/SSL required? Yes

Do all of this and click "Finish" then go back in and change your email server back to what it should be.
Click Send/Receive and you will get your mail.

This is great! Thanks for posting this, now I can free up a few megabytes on my device. I have always hated that I couldn't check my email on older devices that didn't support the live application, like my Mobilepro 900C. I was never a fan of the live app anyway, as I could never choose what happened to my mail on the servers if I deleted it on my device. Thanks,
Dave
How to get *all* sent emails to show up
Thanks for the heads-up regarding this. I'd heard Hotmail were going to offer a more standard form of POP/SMTP access one of these days. I've configured my Kaiser accordingly and it shows all my received emails fine and emails I've sent from my Kaiser fine but emails I've sent from my desktop PC do not show up in sent emails on the Kaiser. Is this what others are getting as well? How do I get all of my sent emails to show up as well?
Yea, only emails sent from the device will show up.
Glad to see other people find this useful as well.
You're welcome.
thank you so much

Synchronizing folders
I'm can setup my MSN e-mail accounts using the method mentioned earlier.
However, none of the my personal MSN e-mail folders show up for me.
They do if I set up the MSN e-mail using HTTP protocol (and use Adrian HTTPMail Provider) instead of POP3 protocol.
Does anyone know how to get the personal e-mail folders to show up and synchronize using POP3?

Does anyone know how I can get 2 hotmail account on my mail tab? Currently I can only use one and if I want to goto my other account I have to switch accounts through windows live.

Don't use Windows Live...
Create an account but trick it
Instead of typing in [email protected] which redirects you to use Windows Live, type in something like [email protected] or something wierd. It will take you to the manual setup wizard.
Follow the Wizard Prompts and enter these where appropriate:
Incoming Mail Server: pop3.live.com
Outgoing SMTP server: smtp.live.com
(check Server requires Authentication and "use same name/pw for sending")
-Under Advanced Settings, check both Incoming/Outgoing SSL options

Great information. Thanks for the help.
The messages do not seem to have the same status as the hotmail versions.
ie. If i have read the message already, it still shows as unread when it arrives at my phone.
Is there a way around this??
Also, can the device be set to auto download images when it gets the message?
(I have unlimited data tarriff so am noth worried about size.)
Thanks.
Great solution for Windows Live/Hotmail Users!!!!
This is wonderful, especially since I track multiple Live/Hotmail accounts ... and no more dependency on Windows Live!
Woo hoo!!!!!
this is awesome, lol, great info, thanks so much

Who set Gmail on their topaz

as of above.
i used gmail on my cruise both wm6.1 & wm6.5 it should be the same for topaz,
settings from here:

I use Gmail, the phone will automatically set it up for imap.
I'm using both gmail and hotmail on the D2; I found hotmail much better for the diamond2
The reasons are:
First, gmail will retrieve the email from the past 30 days; where hotmail will grab a constant window of 50 mails.
But most importantly, as soon as an email is sent to my hotmail account, it appears on the d2; whereas gmail will check the email every hour.
I'd be very interesting if there was a way to have the hotmail behaviors with my gmail account.
i dont know what i missed out, it just never connect to the gmail.
That's strange. I also have no problem with Gmail.

Incoming Mail Server = pop.gmail.com
Outgoing Mail Server = smtp.gmail.com
Check "Outgoing server requires authentication"
At Advanced Server Settings
Check "Require SSL for incoming e-mail"
Check "Require SSL for outgoing e-mail"
Make sure the correct Network Connection is selected.
Hope this helps.

If you want push gmail you'll need to use imappusherservice, i recommend this version as it does auto-restart if the connection is interruppted (the main one just craps out).

Nothing to dl on this link, it say "This Project has no releases"
Hi,
I use Gmail thru Imap and it rocks smoothly. First of all you have to understand what "archiving" email is intersting with gmail.
If you classify quickly your emails or archive them ( you have to get some often in web mode) you will then download only the emails in the Inbox ( not all emails !!!).
Also you can setup how old emails you wish to get 3/7 days...
Gmail works fine and great no problems. Better than any hotmail !
Regards
M B
Also, Gmail uses differen PORT for POP3 and SMTP !!!

Generally speaking, if your company uses Exchange mail and has a web URL, then this is what you would enter:
(Example website url http://www.example.com/)
Server address: either mail.example.com -or- exchange.example.com
Domain: example.com
If those don't work, you'll probably need to ask whoever set up your company email what the proper settings are. If you are told some pop or imap settings, then that is not Exchange mail.
