So, this winter my hero fell out of my car when I was getting out and it dropped into some snow without the back on it. Of course this lead to the water sensor getting wet and despite my best efforts to dry it it's pretty much still all pink now. Are there any avenues for a replacment sticker? The phone is just fine but I'm worried if I have a problem before october that should otherwise be covered under warranty that they'll use it as a scapegoat and not cover the phone. I already took the phone in while in perfect health and they said they don't have a way to replace the sticker and wouldn't even log the current condition in their records. Any help here would be appreciated!

In my store, those stickers mean nothing. We are corporate and the techs open EACH and EVERY phone to inspect for actually liquid, not just some silly sticker. If you store says the stickers are law, find a new store (corporate would be your best bet)!

I suppose I should note that the folks at my local sprint store did say that they didn't pay attention to it. Maybe i'm making a bigger deal of this than need be. I really just wanted them to make a note of it for future but they wouldn't do that, and with any policy change or an upset tech it's my word against theirs. Personally a few minutes with the phone open in front of them and a note on the account saying the sticker was messed up but the phone is fine would make me feel a lot more comfortable over the next 5 months till I can get my EVO.
Think I should just drop it and hope I've got no need to worry about this at any point?
I wouldn't worry about it to much, down here i can go to Corp. and they look at it, take my word give me a new one. 3rd party i just tell them i have a problem and they order me a new one and i wait for one to ship and just send it back. I went threw 3 diamonds and 2 heros with smart phones they just send it back in most cases without trying. If they said they dont care...they care ha ha. Don't worry about it bro, and if you have protection...its only $100...well worth it IMO.
Bleach and a Q-Tip = new white sticker.
No offense to anyone, but most techs are to bone headed to realize that the sticker is all white instead of Red X's after you do it. I have done it to all the phones I have ever had and no one ever said anything about it missing the X's.

thats what i did, i took a water sticker off a cell phone battery i had and replaced the one on my hero. those stickers are pointless and get wet too easy when there is no water damage to the actual phone.
I don't know how well this will work but i put a piece of tape on the sticker on the phone and the battery for preventative measures.
I did not know about the bleach...my sister's phone well in a sink that was still wet but not filled or anything. Still the sticker turned pink and the store refused to replace the phone when she continued to have unrelated problems.

zip loc bag man. you can text call and everything from the shower. i use a quart freezer bag with the double zipper. its awesome. i just sit it my shelf and do whatever while i'm in there.

Yep, I do this all the time as well when I take my phone to the beach or out on the boat. Regular plastic wrap works pretty well too in a pinch.

There's one behind the SIM Cover (open back with special tool or paperclip, the bit labeled "Lift to access Micro SIM").
I'd read that everything in the Droid4 is supposed to be coated with a water-resistant coating...but I'm guessing the water damage indicator isn't.
If the phone has red lines on the indicator, does that mean it's activated?
Or does it turn solid red when damaged?

red lines means it hasn't been wet, it bleeds out to one color when it's been wet.

Are you sure? I just sent my phone in for repair, and after more than 2 weeks they send it back to me saying that the phone has been water damaged
The indicator is white, but has red x's all over it
I told them the phone has never been near any water and they told me that the main board inside had corrosion from liquid. The damn plastic was still on the back of the phone covering the camera lens. How the hell could it possibly be wet???

Yes I'm sure. Every phone I've had since they started putting those moisture indicators on them has been white with red x's through it. The ones that have gotten wet (wife spilled on hers and another one our kid stuck in his mouth) have bleed out into either a pink or light red solid color. The red ink they use bleeds very easily with minimal water contact, that's why they use it.
I don't have an explanation for what they're telling you about the board having water damage, I have no idea what other kind of indicators might be inside the phone. The weird thing is I thought these Droid4's were supposed to have a coating on them to repel water so it's odd that water would get inside it without setting off the moisture indicator.

Apparently they have another indicator inside the phone. I agree with you, I don't know how water could've gotten in the phone without setting the visible indicator off. On top of all this, it took them 2 weeks to tell me my phone was liquid damaged. This is not what I'm used to expecting from Motorola. Honestly, I've never seen such a shady repair before. I'm very annoyed to say the least. Time for an insurance claim...
They're saying the board itself was damaged. Considering how long the Droid 4 has been out, have you tried going to Verizon? You should still be covered under their one-year, and VZW is generally pretty good about replacing phones and asking very few questions. (They've replaced my phones running Cyanogenmod before, for example, because it was obviously a hardware problem.)

Thanks but sadly I'm not a verizon customer. Bought this phone hoping I could get the GSM working and have it run on AT&T. You think they would still replace it? I don't have the original purchase receipt or anything.

Based on this post and the comment I bolded he seemed to be considering it. I agree up until this point he seems to have handled it in a legit fashion but seemed to be considering a move that wasn't legit that's why I made the statement I did.
Kinda embarrassing, but I had the tablet on the water take and when I flushed it just slipped right into the bowl...
Power button isn't really working.. took the back off of it and have it laying glass up hoping the water drains out of it. Not like there is alot of water in it or anything just want to be sure. Hopefully their isn't significant damage, but if there is I hope I can RMA it..

The lesson here is to take a newspaper or magazine with you when you need to poop, instead of expensive gadgets.

RMA is for warranty repair only.
In your case, it's accidental damage which would/should not be covered by warranty.
Disconnect the battery immediately and let it sit in a dry area for at least a day. I'd even recommend hitting it with a hair dryer for 5-10 minutes. My daughter left her phone out in the rain, and when we found it, water literally poured out of the case. I took the battery out, disassembled it as much as I could and let to dry for a day. It survived and it working fine now. Keep in mind that most manufacturers place "moisture indicators" inside their devices. It's just a small paper sticker with tiny drops of red dye on it. As soon as water hits it, the dye runs and the sticker turns pink... and your warranty is void.

ok, as a professional repair tech i can tell you that rice has a VERY low chance of success... it isnt as marvelous as everyone thinks it is. it wont absorb much of the moisture in the phone. i have seen numerous phones come through my shop after sitting in rice for days... STILL have standing water in them.
your best bet: if you have tools to take it apart, remove the board, and immediately put it in alcohol. if you have any residual corrosion on the board, take a VERY soft bristled brush and gently wipe the corrosion away.
if you dont have tools/a brush... take the battery out, and submerge the entire thing in 91% (nothing less) rubbing alcohol. you may ruin the lcd, but trust me, a new lcd is a far cry cheaper than a new phone.
also, your battery is likely toasted, buy a new one.
just as a caveat to all, unless you drop your phone in clean city tap water, or distilled water... its going to have contaminants in it, and will corrode your phone, rice or no rice. alcohol displaces the moisture, and removes chemicals/minerals on your board.

putting it in a sealed bag full of silicon gel sachets will also help.
That's a crappy situation.
If you're in the US and paid the full amount on your credit card (not debit card), see if the card offers any buyer's protection. American Express and the higher tier Visa cards offer a 90-day theft and breakage protection.

Is the battery dry? If it's wet you'll need a new one and remember this isn't guaranteed to work.

A server room should dry it out good.
This is going to sound pretty gross, was the toilet flushed? I recently repaired my HTC Hero that I had loaned to a friend, who then proceeded to drop it down an unflushed toilet
I dried it out, only to find it would not power up, not until I remove the pubic hair that was shorting it out
Just Something to look out for.
Just because the battery got wet doesn't mean that it's trashed. Tap water isn't that great of a conductor, so as long as the battery didn't discharge at too high of a rate from a short, it might be okay. If the battery felt very hot when you removed back cover, it's not a good sign.
As for the alcohol, I'd use it to clean the board but I'd hold off on submerging the whole unit. The openings on the Nexis's case are pretty thin, so I doubt much water got inside. I'd just let it dry and see if it works before doing anything drastic.

If it was on when you dropped (probably was) it might have shortened something in the circuit board, and that is why is not turning on, however there is always hope and I would follow the previous advices to disconnect the battery, hair dryer and rice of bag overnight before trying turn on again.

Hahaha, It was at the end of its flush when it slipped it. When it hit the bowl the case opened a little bit but I grabbed it as fast as I could.

The battery was quite cool actually.
It was clean tap water, btw.
Another sad story: I dropped mine 4 feet to a concrete floor about 24 hours after it was delivered, breaking the screen. The display still works, but the digitizer won't respond to touches any more. I found a link to a place that claims to have the screen-digitizer assembly for $130, but haven't pulled the trigger.
No luck with the VISA purchase protection...

This had me giggling in my little cubicle.
Just curious if anyone would like a crack at repairing a water damaged HTC One. It was dropped into a chlorine pool for 4 seconds, screen flickered until it went black, I tried to shut it off, it then vibrated for hours until the battery died and it never turned back on. I totally understand that my One is most likely done but it couldn't hurt to rip apart my shiny paper weight!

Yea I did but I was still vibrating and flickering. Ieft it in there for 24 hours to no avail.

The guy who designed it said there is some special tool, maybe someone other than HTC got their hands on one?
I had a water damaged One from a pool. There is no repairing it. Your board is dead as is your battery,
I would say your best bet at this point (short of destroying your phone by attempting a self-repair) is to put your phone in liquid as close to 100% alcohol as possible.
If that doesn't help, I'd look into getting a replacement.
id be willing to try to repair it, or at minimum take it apart. I was a sprint store tech years ago, and repaired every model, even the ones they said were unrepairable

Lol this is completely unrepairable. I think ifixit rated it a 1. I don't really see how to open it being a unibody. Only thing I see is removing the speaker grill then move on to the LCD and see if u can get access through there but I doubt it

But, if you can do it, we'd all like to see a YouTube video. I would like to change the color of my shell.

Before you go taking your phone apart, i had the same issues with water damage.
I spilled beer on it, the phone bootlooped until the battery died. To make a long story short. I ran the damn phone under water to rinse off any beer and sugar residue. Stuck the phone in a bag with those moisture removal packs. I let it sit in the bag for about two weeks. I then tried plugging in the phone and i got contstant boot looping only while the phone was on the charger, otherwise it was dead. I figured my phone was a paperweight. I accepted defeat and for an entire month, my phone sat on my desk while i looked at it everyday thinking what a waste. One day i decided to plug it in to see if anything changed. To my amazement i saw a solid orange charge light. I let it charge overnight and when got up in the morning, solid green. I powered the phone on and was so excited to see my phone come back from the dead. I know this is pure luck that my phone is still functioning today, but the only reason it is working is because i thought about disassembing my phone but never went through with it because it is almost impossible to reassemble without damaging the phone. In this instance, luck and patience is what gave my phone a second chance. Im not saying the same miracle will happen for you but i wanted to share my story in hopes that you dont rip the phone apart risking permanently damaging the phone, just yet. Let the phone thoroughly dry, you never know.

I think I'll take all of these ideas haha. I'll try the pure water rinse, then pour rubbing alcohol through it, then stick it in rice for two days or more. Should be fun. Or maybe I could just send it to 94tbird if you wanna have a go at it?

i just bought mine and i took it for a test in the pool and took pics and video and i opened to see if water got inside and yes some drops where inside but not in the important area so i dry it close it BUT it seems that it got water inside somehow cuz :crying::crying::crying::crying:l later i try to see the pics and the screen went wild and then the horror screen went from white to black and that was it i try to dry it with hairdryer nothing i came back to live for a sec only to do the same then the rice trick nothing now is all black i can hear the phone respond but no image and im in despair since att told me warranty is void cuz the water indicator is red so im f up. Can someone help me out with some miraculous fix for this problem please i just bought it and im beyond broke. I got isopropyl alcohol if i dunk it without the battery of course will the acohol damage the amoled lcd or the camera or anything? if i dry it well will it come back to life or will the lcd digiticer permanetly dead ? HELP ME OUT HERE PLEASE:crying::crying::crying:
Why 2 posts about the same issue. Sounds like you have your answer. Your phone is busto so unless you wanna go as far as replacing the screen yourself which will probably not resolve all your issues. Stop swimming with your phone :banghead:

Is the water damage strip tripped on both the phone and battery? I did the same thing with mine but luckily only the battery strip was tripped so I just ordered a new battery and Told the store the screen stopped working all of a sudden dodged a bullet on that one

Only the back of the phone the battery one is ok. Where can i get another water indicator to replace the one on the phone. If i dunk the phone on isopropyl alcohol will the screen or digitiser die? Thank in advance

The phone is advertised as "Water Resistance" not "Water Proof".....SO if your wife or kids spill something on it or you drop it in a pool and get it out quickly, you should be okay......If you put it in the pool and played with it (Took pictures etc...) Thats a NO NO.....
It seems you had your S5 in the pool, having fun and now its damaged. I did the same thing with my S 5 at first. I took it in the pool and took pictures under water, and had fun. The speaker sounded like it had water all in it, but after it dried up, the speaker was fine. So is my phone.
But the S 5 Active is rated i believe 30 Minutes, up to 3 feet. SO there is the problem----you have the regular S 5 and its dead bro.....
You need a new phone. I don't think anybody has a fix for water damage. It burnt up some thing inside. I hate to say it , but you will have to get another one. I learned a lesson and hopefully others did by our stories.

Ya mine was on the battery so I could replace the battery yours is on the phone not sure how you would replace that I think you might be out of luck my friend

I can't believe everyone is telling this guy he's SOL. Yes it was a silly thing to do but who hasn't made a mistake?
Jsong, the rice trick takes weeks typically to work, helps if you can get it in direct sunlight as well to speed up the absorption rate. I would suggest giving the rice trick a try again but leave it untouched for a week or two. DO NOT USE A HAIRDRYER, you've already stated that you have but don't again. The force of the air could push moisture deeper and make the issue worse. Take out the SIM, the battery and external memory card if you have one. Vacuum the exposed area for at least 30 minutes, change up the angle of the vacuum every little while to make sure you are reaching all exposed parts. Put the dry cover back on, do not try and turn it on. Now put it in the rice and some say 24-hours works but I would leave it for at least a week. If it won't turn on after a week in the rice and the vacuuming you may need to think about replacing the motherboard which I don't think anyone sells. If you do manage to get ahold of one or any part you want to replace use the guide here to tear it down and fix yourself. https://www.ifixit.com/Device/Samsung_Galaxy_S5

OK im getting a little irritated with this kind of comment that show only the lack of knowledge the S5 normal is IP67 as the active the difference is that the active beside the IP67 has some military test of its own so both phone can be submerged up to 1 meter and up to 30 min there is no difference there OK and yes if i buy a phone thats says it can do that WHY would i do it its like if i buy a water resistant watch or whatever if it says it can be submerged up to 15 meter im gonna swim with it im NOT scuba diving because it will die. SAme thing with the S5 if is water whatever but it specifies that can be submerged up to 1 meter and for 30 im gonna do it following the security measures the one thing i did not calculated was that if the phone have some factory flaws and the water gets in and the indicator goes red im screw now

So, if I purposely crash my car into a building, and I'm laying in my hospital bed, and I say, well if the air bag worked like it was supposed to, then I would not be in this predicament, how would I sound? You'd probably say, well why would you do that anyway? There are some things that you do not do, you'd probably say. That's kind of how you sound with taking the phone swimming, but not that degree.
Well, maybe the phone was faulty. But what service center or tech is going believe you after you've blow dried it, and possibly soaked it in rice or alcohol. If you did any of that, then that throws out the entire argument about the phone being at fault, since the blow dryer, alcohol, and rice are not tested and proven procedures, or "following security measure", for the S5. I'm just saying what you need, but don't want, to hear.
And you're right also, there is a lack of knowledge around here about S5. In my opinion, it takes somewhere around a year before you understand a phone really well. That's why you don't do like you did, because almost no one around here has been in that situation yet, where they had to find a solution. That's why there's no definite answer right now and...Oops, I have to go. I have to get my phone out the sink before the 30 minutes is up. Let us know what you decide to.

The Active and the S5 both have the same IP67 certification for water ingress protection. so NO the Active is not any better under water. And in the case of the OP he just got back lock and was not sure that the back cover was completely close. I have use my S5 on the pool several times to take videos and pictures without issues, you just need to be sure of the usb flap and back case been secured.

Once the phone is jostled, the internal air pressure is messed with, and water actually first enters the device. You can tell as the headphone jack finally has air bubbles coming from it. This is true with any phone with a decent seal on it. Its not water proof or resistant by ANY means. As soon as liquid gets in, the phone starts to die. Because it's not water resistant. Go figure.
And then to top it all off, that ****tard plugs the USB into a wet charging port and wonder why it shorts and burns. Christ...
So yeah, in summary: This has been posted a bunch of times already, and it's a total load of horse****. The phone isn't water resistant at all.

The phone isn't waterproof AT ALL it's simply sealed well. Same crap when the M8 first came out.

I like to think i have a reasonable approach to any manufacture's claims; either
1) Test it if they claim "proof" (i do this with every IPX8 flashlight i buy)
2) Or, if i am at all dubious about the claim, assume it is at least one to two levels below the claim, and treat it as such.
If they are honest and say that its not proof, i am really going to believe them, and act accordingly.
